As expected, Sony unveiled two new Xperia phones today. These are the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI. The former is a flagship offering whereas the latter is a mid-range device. The Xperia 10 VI arrives as the successor to the last year’s Xperia 10 V. The brand has made slight changes to the latest offering. Read on to learn more.

Sony Xperia 10 VI specifications and features

The Sony Xperia 10 VI continues the tradition of top and bottom bezels on the tall 21:9 aspect ratio screen. It features a 6.1-inch Triluminious OLED display bearing an FHD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. There is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The smartphone is IP68-certified dust and water-resistant. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button.

The Sony Xperia 10 VI features a minimalistic look with a raised pill-shaped area at the top left of the back panel that has two camera sensors sandwiched by an LED flash unit. The camera setup includes a 48MP main sensor with OIS accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Sony has dropped the telephoto unit from its predecessor. There is an 8MP front-facing selfie snapper.

Audio-wise, the Sony Xperia 10 VI is equipped with front-firing stereo speakers with 360 Reality Audio Certified, DSEE Ultimate, stereo recording, and aptX adaptive.

Internally, the Sony Xperia 10 VI houses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor. It packs 8GB RAM and 128GB storage expandable via microSD card slot. The smartphone draws its power from a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. Software-wise, it ships with Android 14 with three years of guaranteed OS updates and four years of security patches.

The Sony Xperia 10 VI is offered in Black, White, and Blue colors. It carries a price tag of Euros 399 and GBP 349 in the European and UK markets respectively. The phone is up for pre-orders with sales commencing from mid-June.

Earlier today, Sony held a virtual launch event to debut its new Xperia smartphones, with the spotlight on the flagship Xperia 1 VI. The phone has a new processor, some improvements in the camera department, and a more conventional design.

Design & display

The Xperia 1 VI continues to follow Sony’s minimalistic design philosophy, offering a boxy design with flat edges and a flat back. The back also has a pill-shaped camera island, reminiscent of its predecessor.

The biggest change in design comes from the display, which is now a more conventional 19.5:9, rather than the 21:9 cinema aspect ratio. This change has made the smartphone shorter and wider compared to its predecessor.

Sony has also decided to ditch the 4K OLED display in favor of a 6.5-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) panel. The phone still uses an OLED panel which has HDR certification, full coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut & X1 for mobile. It offers a 1-120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 240Hz Motion blur reduction. The display, along with the back comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Despite the changes to the aspect ratio, the phone still has massive top and bottom bezels.

Performance

Under the hood, the Xperia 1 VI packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, that has onboard Andreno 750 graphics. The processor is paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage (512GB model will be available in Japan and East Asia). Sony also offers memory expandability up to 1.5TB via microSD card. To tackle thermals, the phone has included a vapor chamber cooling system.

For audio, the device offers full-stage front stereo speakers that come with improvements in bass, clarity, and the spread of sound across width and depth compared to its predecessor. It also has a 3.5mm jack for wired listening and has included technologies like 360 Reality Audio, 360 Reality Audio hardware decoding, 360 Spatial Sound, Dolby Atmos, LDAC, DSEE Ultimate, Qualcomm aptX HD audio and LE Audio for a rich audio experience.

The battery pack offers a 5,000mAh capacity, paired with 30W USB PD fast charging as well as Qi Wireless charging. For connectivity, it has support for 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6E 802.11 ax, and Bluetooth 5.4 LE. For navigation, the phone supports GPS and GLONASS. Additionally, it has a USB 3.2 Type-C port, NFC, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. It has an Android 14-based operating system, and Sony promises to deliver three Android version updates and four years of security support.

Cameras

Coming to the main highlight of the phone, the camera system features a 48MP primary unit with a 1/1.3.5″ Exymor T sensor in it. This is the same sensor as last year’s flagship Xperia model. It has an f/1.9 aperture with Hybrid OIS and EIS support. The second camera on the back is the 12MP ultra-wide with an f/2.2 aperture and a 16mm focal length. The third and last camera on the back is a telephoto camera with a 1/3.5″ sensor, and an improved 85mm-170mm optically-zoom lens that offers 3.5x to 7.1x optical zoom (21.3x hybrid zoom). All of the rear cameras have ZEISS T* coated lenses.

The front camera houses a 12MP 1/2.9″ Exmor RS mobile sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 84° field of view. The camera system of the Xperia 1 VI is capable of recording videos in up to 4K 120FPS. Sony has also revamped the camera app on the Xperia 1 VI to make it more accessible and user-friendly for point-and-shoot users. The Pro mode is still there for users who prefer customizing the camera settings to their liking.

Pricing & availability

The Xperia 1 VI starts at €1,399/£1,299 and will be available from early June. It comes in Black, Platinum Silver, and Khaki Green.

Oppo launched the Find X7 Ultra Satellite Edition towards the end of March this year. However, the Find X8 series has already entered the rumor mill. Previously it was reported that the Find X8 series devices (Find X8 and Find X8 Ultra) will launch before the end of this year. However, a recent rumor claims that the new series will have a new model and that the Ultra model will be launched later.

The Find X8 series could have three models

Now the same tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the Find X8 series will have three models this time around. He also adds that the base and the upper model might be released as soon as October, and the Ultra model will come out separately in Q1 2025. According to the rumor, the series will offer a new design, a revamped camera system, possibly different battery sizes, and as usual, an improved fast charging.

Based on what we know so far, the new series will use both the upcoming flagship chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm. However, it’s currently unclear which models will be used in each model. According to a previous rumor, the Ultra model may use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip.

The addition of a new model in the middle and a separate release of the Ultra model is similar to Xiaomi’s approach to its recent flagships, where the Ultra model was released months after the release of the base and middle variants.

Some previous reports also note that Oppo aims to compete directly with the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series with its Find X8 series devices. The Find X7 series was launched in January this year, whereas the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro launched in October last year. So, it could be a reason for the company to accelerate development, as reported earlier by DCS, and aim to release the new series within this year while scheduling the launch of the Ultra model for early next year.

Realme is gearing up to launch the GT 6T smartphone in India on May 22. The brand has now confirmed that it also plans to debut the Realme Buds Air 6 TWS earbuds in the country along with the new smartphone. iThe brand has also claimed that these earbuds will be the first in its segment to feature Hi-Res Audio.

Realme Buds Air 6 specs:

These earbuds were launched earlier this month in China. So, we expect the same specifications and features in the Indian variant. With that in mind, we can expect the Buds Air 6 to have 12.4mm titanium-plated dynamic drivers. We can expect LHDC 5.0 and Hi-Res Audio support, as well as 50 decibels of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). For mobile gamers, the TWS could feature a dedicated gaming mode that reduces latency to 55ms. Another key feature that will likely be onboard the device is dual connectivity.

Like the Chinese model, we can expect up to 40 hours of battery life with the charging case, as well as 7 hours of playback with a quick 7-minute charge time. Other features could include IP55 water and dust resistance, Bluetooth 5.3, and touch controls.

The Realme Buds Air 5, which debuted in India back in August 2023 had a price tag of Rs. 3,699. So we can expect its successor to also launch with around the same price tag.

Samsung is getting ready to unveil its next gen flagship TWS earbuds soon. The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro was just spotted on a major certification platform, which hints at its imminent launch. The earbuds would likely offer notable specs and features, so let’s check it out.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro spotted on FCC

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy Buds 3 Pro visited the FCC database (via 91Mobiles) carrying the SM-R630 model number. Looking at the certification, the upcoming earbuds will be manufactured by Samsung in South Korea. It will run on the software version R630.001. While finer details are still at large, the listing confirmed support for Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE (Low Energy).

In a previous report, the successors of the Galaxy Buds 2 series are currently in development and are rumored to launch within this year. Furthermore, the base Galaxy Buds 3 was seen with the SM-R530 model number. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Buds FE in October of last year. But now, the premium audio lineup may be right around the corner. Based on another certification, the Buds 3 Pro is expected to be powered by a 500mAh battery pack, which is the same as last gen the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

The brand has yet to officially confirm the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. But it should come with improvements in noise cancellation and audio quality. The new Galaxy Buds 3 Pro could debut alongside the upcoming foldable smartphones. So it may arrive with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in July or August 2024. This is still just speculation at this point, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now.

In a recent leak, the K70 Ultra was rumored to be powered by a large 5,500mAh battery pack, which is 10 percent larger than its predecessor. On the front, the device would likely sport a 1.5K OLED screen that may be paired with a dedicated dual core display chip. Huawei Vision Smart Screen 4 specifications:

The Vision Smart Screen 4 comes with an impressive design – a 1.5 mm ultra-narrow bezel, 98% screen-to-body ratio, and a wider field of view. It also offers a one-piece metal body design. It is made of high-strength steel plate material and is polished with micron-grade quartz sand.

The 4K panel comes with 2304 intelligent light control partitions and can analyze characteristics of an image in real-time, adjust the brightness accurately, and intelligently process and depict the light and shadow in the content.

The panel supports a 92% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, which means a nearly accurate representation of most of the colors. According to the company, the TV shows colors that are “vivid and lifelike”, and is calibrated on a channel-by-channel basis △E≤1.518.

The product runs on HarmonyOS 4.2, which appears to be stable and smooth.

This model was recently spotted in leaks and teasers, and now, its release date for China has been revealed. iQOO Neo 9S Pro China Launch on May 20

The Chinese brand’s Neo 9S Pro will be unveiled in the Chinese market on 20th May 2024. In the official teaser, the company confirmed that the high-end device will be equipped with the new MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ SoC. This is a flagship grade chipset. Looking at the design, it appears almost identical to the Neo 9 Pro. However, the Neo 9S Pro is coming in a new White and Green color option. The latter can be seen with a textured back panel.

The brand also announced the iQOO x NBA collaboration gift box, which will be unveiled at the launch event. We can see a custom back cover for the phone, pop socket, and a bottle. The Xiaomi MIJIA Wireless Vacuum Cleaner 2 Dust Edition has a high-speed brushless motor with a maximum speed of 100,000 rpm and 150AW power which translates to a maximum suction power of 24kPa. The product comes with a 2,500mAh battery that delivers up to 60 minutes of operation at low sound around 73dB. The cleaning gadget is equipped with a 12-cone cyclone separation system that ensures smooth airflow and enhanced efficiency of the filter element. A five-layer fine filtration system is adopted to lock tiny particles while the purification efficiency is 99.97%.

The MIJIA Wireless Vacuum Cleaner 2 Dust Display Edition can be pre-ordered for 899 yuan ($124) via JD.com and other retail outlets. The device will go on pre-sale on May 20 while the final payment should be made by May 31. Xiaomi has not released any global availability information yet for the product.

The Dangbei Mars Pro 2 laser projector has been released. It is coming about two years after the release of the Mars Pro projector. The new Dangbei projector offers premium features including 4K output, Dolby and DTS:X surround sound, and Google TV integration. The Mars Pro 2 was showcased during CES 2024 back in January. Dangbei has now confirmed the launch price and some other parameters of the Mars Pro 2 laser projector. The projector is scheduled to be launched on May 28.

The Mars Pro 2 is marketed as the world’s first Google TV 4K laser projector with a pre-installed, licensed Netflix application. It is also capable of streaming content from other services like YouTube, Hulu, Prime Video, and Disney+. It delivers a 4K UHD visual experience with HDR10+ compatibility. The sound setup of the projector includes two 12W speakers that are both Dolby Audio and DTS:X compatible. Connectivity options for the Dangbei Mars Pro 2 laser projector include HDMI 2.1 and Wi-Fi 6. It also features the InstanPro AI Image Setup and improved AI algorithms for enhanced autofocus, screen fitting, eye protection, and obstacle avoidance.

The Dangbei Mars Pro 2 Google TV 4K laser projector has a launch price of $1,899 but early buyers could pay about $1,400 for the gadget. In addition, US-based customers who subscribe to the brand’s Newsletter before the May 28 launch date, will get a freebie worth $139. The freebie is a gimbal stand. Ola Electric’s most affordable e-scooter – the S1 X starts shipping in India

Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Ola Electric has begun deliveries of the Ola S1 X e-scooter in India. The Ola S1 X is the brand’s most affordable electric scooter and is a strong competitor of the traditional gasoline-powered scooters in India.

The Ola S1 X is the only Ola Electric e-scooter that has a physical key. The Ola S1 X is offered in three battery options namely 2kWh, 3kWh, and 4kWh. All three models are currently being offered at lower prices due to the price cut Ola implemented on the models. The current prices place the Ola S1 X e-scooters as the most affordable electric scooters currently in India.

The S1 X has a range of 91km for the 2kWh battery pack. A full charge of the battery is achieved in 7.4 hours and the scooter has a peak power output of 6kW. The 3kWh version of the e-scooter has a 151km range and a top speed of 90km/h. It goes from 0 to 40km/h in 3.3 seconds. The 4kWh version of the e-scooter has a claimed range of 190km but maintains the same performance specifications as the 3kWh version.

The Ola S1 X e-scooter can reach a speed of 40km/h in 4.1 seconds, showing a decent degree of acceleration. The scooter has a top speed of 85km/h and there are three riding modes – Eco, Normal, and Sports. The S1 X has a 3.5-inch LCD screen in place of a touchscreen instrument cluster.

The Ola Electric S1 X e-scooter is priced in India at Rs. 69,999 ($838), Rs. 84,999 ($1,017), and Rs. 99,999 ($1,197) for the 2kWh, 3kWh, and 4kWh versions respectively. Ola Electric says affordability, accessibility, and ease of ownership make the S1 X an attractive proposition for potential buyers in the subcontinent. There are no indications yet on the global availability of the Ola S1 X e-scooter.

Some images of the upcoming Anbernic RG Cube retro gaming handheld have emerged ahead of its official launch. Although Anbernic has not officially announced the RG Cube yet, The images of the Anbernic RG Cube highlight some similarities between the product and the Powkiddy RGB30 and ZPG A1.

The first details of the Anbernic RG Cube retro gaming handheld surfaced online a few days back. More details have subsequently surfaced for the RG35XX SP which is another retro gaming handheld that could be released soon. Several Anbernic employees have reportedly shared new photos of the RG Cube, further illuminating the upcoming model. The Anbernic RG cube comes with two joysticks and shares the same button layout with the ZPG A1 Unicorn yet to be released. The layout is different from the Powkiddy RGB30.

The RG Cube gaming handheld has a d-pad, with its right-hand joystick sandwiched between the YXAB buttons and the Start/ Select buttons. The handheld is powered by the Unisoc T820 processor, already present in the Anbernic RG556. The Unisoc T820 chipset integrates the ARM Cortex-A76 CPU core @ 2.7GHz, three Cortex-A76 cores @ 2.3GHz, and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.1GHz. Based on its architecture, the Anbernic RG Cube is more powerful than some of the current Anbernic gaming handhelds such as the RG35XX Plus.

The Anbernic RG Cube retro gaming handheld pricing and availability details have not been officially released. It is however expected that the product will be available for the global market. The Anbernic RG35XX Plus and other Anbernic models are currently available from retail platforms like Amazon.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max might also adopt a periscope zoom camera with 5x optical zoom, similar to what some high-end competitors offer. Screen size increases are also expected for the Pro models, with the iPhone 16 Pro potentially going from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max potentially increasing from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.

BYD Unveils the “Shark” Hybrid Pickup Truck with a Combined Range of 840 Kilometers

BYD unveiled its newest offering, the “Shark” pickup truck, at a press conference held in Mexico on May 15th. The Shark sets its sights on the Americas and Australian markets, with the possibility of a future launch in China yet to be confirmed by officials.

The BYD Shark comes in two versions: GL and GS. While specific differences between the models weren’t revealed at the event, BYD has announced pricing for each:

GL Version: 899,980 Mexican pesos (approximately 386,245 yuan or $58,000 USD)
GS Version: 969,800 Mexican pesos (approximately 416,210 yuan or $62,500 USD)

The Shark is available in three color choices: Pallas White, Marmara Black, and Atlantis Gray. In terms of size, the pickup truck measures 5457mm long, 1971mm wide, and 1925mm tall, with a 3260mm wheelbase.

The BYD Shark boasts a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a dual-motor setup. The front motor delivers a maximum power of 170kW and 310Nm of torque, while the rear motor puts out 150kW and 340Nm of torque. This combination allows the Shark to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

The Shark is equipped with a 29.58kWh battery pack, offering a pure electric NEDC range of 100 kilometers. In combined gasoline-electric mode, the NEDC range extends to an impressive 840 kilometers. BYD also claims a fuel consumption rating of 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

The BYD Shark isn’t all brawn; it boasts a brain to match. The interior features a driver-centric layout with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a massive 12.8-inch central touchscreen for infotainment, and a futuristic 12-inch head-up display (HUD). Compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensures seamless smartphone integration.

For enhanced safety and visibility, the Shark comes equipped with a 360° panoramic view camera system and a 180° chassis camera. This combination provides a comprehensive 540° ultra-wide transparent panoramic image, minimizing blind spots and aiding maneuvering. The BYD Shark marks the automaker’s entry into the competitive mid-sized pickup truck segment, targeting markets outside of China initially.

Google Announces the 6th Generation of its Tensor Processing Unit with 4.7 Times More Computing Power

Google announced the sixth generation of its Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) for data centers, codenamed Trillium, at its I/O 2024 Developer Conference today. While a specific launch date wasn’t revealed, Google assured attendees that Trillium will be available later this year.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized Google’s longstanding commitment to AI innovation, stating, “Google was born for this moment. We have been a pioneer in GPUs for more than a decade.”

Pichai then unveiled the impressive performance gains of Trillium. Compared to the fifth generation TPU, Trillium boasts a staggering 4.7 times improvement in computing power per chip. Google achieved this by enhancing the chip’s matrix multiplication unit (MXU) and boosting the overall clock speed. Additionally, Trillium benefits from doubled memory bandwidth.

Trillium incorporates Google’s third-generation SparseCore technology, described as “a purpose-built accelerator for common large-scale tasks in advanced ranking and recommendation workloads.” This allows Trillium TPUs to train models faster and deliver lower latency when serving those models.

Energy efficiency was another key focus for Google. Pichai highlighted Trillium as the company’s “most energy-efficient” TPU yet. This is particularly significant considering the ever-growing demand for AI chips, which can have a substantial environmental impact. Google claims Trillium offers a 67% improvement in energy efficiency compared to the previous generation.
