Assassin’s Creed Mirage is Coming to iPhone and iPad Next Month!

Gamers looking for a console-like experience on their iPhones can look forward to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The game will be available for free download with a 90-minute trial on iPhone 15, 15 Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models (release date varies between June 6th according to Ubisoft and June 10th according to the App Store listing).

After the free 90-minute trial, players will have to pay $50 to continue the rest of the game

The game will also come to iPad Air and iPad Pro models with M1 chip or later. After the trial, players will need to pay $50 to continue, which is similar to the price on other platforms. The game will support cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect, allowing players to pick up their progress from other devices.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Release

This is a smaller, more focused game compared to recent Assassin’s Creed titles like Odyssey and Valhalla. Originally planned as DLC for Valhalla, Mirage returns to the franchise’s roots with a focus on stealth gameplay. While not the first big-budget title on iPhone 15 (Resident Evil remakes and ports like No Man’s Sky and Baldur’s Gate 3 exist), Mirage promises a significant gaming experience.

Reviews of other mobile AAA titles suggest impressive graphics and performance on par with a PlayStation 4 Pro or mid-range gaming laptops. However, touch controls can be limiting, so using a compatible PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch controller, or an attachable controller like the Razer Kishi is recommended.

Fart Sounds and Laughter? Google’s ‘Audio Emojis’ Update will Make Calls More…Fun?

Google Phone is getting a strange update that might leave you scratching your head. A beta version of the app spotted by 9to5Google reveals plans to add “Audio Emojis” which are essentially sound effects users can play during calls.

The audios can be accessed during a call using the small flag button on the screen

These “Audio Emojis” come in six flavors: clapping, laughter, crying (represented by a trombone sound), celebratory noises, a drum sting, and yes, even a fart sound. You can access these buttons during a call through the overflow menu or a small flag at the bottom of the screen.

It’s hard to say if the feature will be really useful. While the immature side finds the fart button tempting (but only with a trusted friend!), genuine reactions are preferable. We can only question the long-term usefulness of the feature beyond a novelty.

A great improvement would be user-uploaded sounds, pre-recorded messages, and text-to-speech options. This might be a playful experiment by Google and it might not evolve much further. However, users will be urged to avoid spamming loved ones with sound effects, unless the goal is to get off the phone quickly. Thankfully, a cooldown period limits how often you can use these effects, the report states. We should hopefully get more information about Google’s thinking behind this feature at Google I/O on May 14th.

Samsung Confirms Premium Galaxy Watch Models To Meet Increasing Demand For Upgrades

As per rumors, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 series is expected to comprise of three models instead of two indicating a shift in strategy. This is further solidified going by the company’s Q1 earnings call announcement. In a press release, the South Korean brand revealed important details about its wearables strategy.

Samsung confirms premium Galaxy Watch models coming in the future

Samsung says that for wearables it aims to strengthen the Galaxy ecosystem experience through the expansion of new models and form factors like the Galaxy Ring. This suggests that the brand could indeed announce new models in the Galaxy Watch lineup although the exact naming scheme remains a mystery. The South Korean brand is said to be working on an affordable Galaxy Watch dubbed the Galaxy Watch 4 (2024). Additionally, a past report also hinted at the company going back to a rectangular smartwatch in one of the upcoming Watch 7 series.

Samsung’s statement also indicates that it could launch more wearable devices in form factors like the Galaxy Ring. The press release also states that “the company will strive to meet demand for upgrades through the launch of new premium models”. Through the statement, we assume that the upgrades demanded by users will be implemented in the more premium Galaxy Watch models. The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is currently the premium offering. Oppo A3 Expected Features: A quick peek at what’s coming

Back in April 2024, the Oppo A3 Pro was announced in China as the brand’s latest mid range device. This was also the first model in the A3 series as it appears that a base Oppo A3 is also in the works. But what’s coming and what do we know so far? So here’s a sneak peek.

Oppo A3
Oppo A3 (PJT110)

1. Oppo A3: Distinct Design over the A3 Pro

The Chinese brand’s Oppo A3 was just recently spotted in a TENAA certification platform. This not only gave us more details regarding its specs but also showcased its front and rear design. From the back, this device looks slightly familiar to the Sony Xperia 1 V, with vertically stacked camera sensors in an oval shaped camera module.

The module houses the LED flash as well. This is distinct from the Oppo A3 Pro’s circular camera island. While it is unclear, the front seems to have curved edges and the rear has a flat back. We don’t know if the IP69 protection rating will return on the base model, since it was featured on the Oppo A3 Pro. The upcoming A3 model measures 8.1mm in thickness and 191 grams in weight.

2. Upgrade from LCD to AMOLED

To recall, the Oppo A2 was announced in China with an IPS LCD panel. The TENAA listing confirmed that its successor, Oppo A3 (PJT110), will get an upgrade with an AMOLED display that is 6.67 inches tall. This screen is also expected to offer Full HD+ resolution. While we can’t see the selfie camera, we can expect to see a punch hole cutout on the next-gen model like its predecessor. The older model came with a 90Hz refresh rate, so the A3 would offer a similar or a higher refresh rate panel.

3. Specs: Processor, RAM, & More

Under the hood, the certification confirmed that the Oppo A3 is equipped with a 2.2GHz chipset. The A2 launched with the Dimensity 6020, so there’s a chance that it may come with a Dimensity 7020 processor. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation at the moment. The chipset may be paired with 8GB and 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, and even 512GB of internal storage.

One could even expand storage via a microSD card slot. The Oppo A3 is set to be powered by a large 5,500mAh battery pack that could support 33W wired fast charging. For security, it houses an in-display fingerprint scanner. The new handset will likely run on the Android 14 OS based ColorOS 14 custom skin out of the box.

4. Photography may not see major changes

Back in 2023, the Oppo A2 arrived with a 50-megapixel primary and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Looking at the image, the dual camera setup returns. The primary may retain a 50-megapixel sensor but with a newer sensor that likely offers a 2-megapixel depth sensor again as well.

5. Expected launch date & pricing

Oppo’s A2 5G launched as the most affordable 512GB storage phone with a starting price tag of 1,699 Yuan (roughly 235 US Dollars). However, it’s possible that the upgrades in specs will likely reflect a higher price. The Oppo A3 was expected to go official before the end of April in China. But as May begins, its release could be teased for this month. We can expect teasers and more leaks to surface online soon, so stick around for more updates.

This is not the official list, but shouldn’t be a lot different than that. We have into account Samsung’s software update policy and the past updates rollout to prepare this list.

Samsung provides at least two Android updates to all Galaxy devices. Hence, all those launched with Android 13 or Android 14 will get the Android 15-based One UI 7 update.

The brand offers four years of OS upgrades to flagships and mid-range phones. Since all Galaxy devices under this promise launched with Android 11 or later, they will also be upgraded to Android 15.

Again, this is not the final list. Samsung might upgrade more Galaxy devices to One UI 7. We’ll keep updating the list based on the latest information.

Android 15 Release Timeline

Every new Android OS goes through multiple development and testing phases before the stable build arrives for the public. The developer preview phase is done for Android 15, and it is now in its beta phase of testing, which will last until July.

Once the beta phase passes through, Android 15 will reach platform stability where bugs and problems are resolved to prepare for a stable release.

Google hasn’t revealed when the stable Android 15 builds will be released, but it’s likely to be in October 2024, when the company will also announce the Pixel 9 series. In the same month last year, Google announced the stable release of Android 14.

Google Pixels will be the first in line to receive the Android 15 update. But when will it start rolling out to Samsung? After the stable release, Samsung takes time to blend its custom skin – One UI – with the latest Android OS.

Samsung is among the Android brands to offer beta builds for users to get an early look at the new software. Last year, the brand started releasing beta builds of Android 14 in August, and we are expecting the same with Android 15. As always, newer Galaxy S-series phones will be the first to get an early taste of Android 15 via the beta releases.

What’s New in Android 15?

These features have been announced or discovered in Android 15 beta builds.

Satellite Connectivity Support

Ever since Apple released satellite connectivity for iPhones, Android users have been desperately waiting for it. Finally, it’s coming as a part of Android 15. Apps can use APIs to detect when a device is connected to a satellite.

Android 15 supports satellite connectivity for SMS apps and RCS apps for sending and receiving messages. This means satellite connectivity will not be limited to emergency uses only.

Partial Screen Sharing

If you share or record the screen in Android 14 or older versions, it will capture everything displayed on the screen. Android 15 makes it better by adding support for sharing or recording a single app rather than the entire screen.

Notification Cooldown

Too many successive notifications from a single app can be annoying, which Google has tried to resolve with the “Notification cooldown” feature. This feature lowers the volume of successive notifications coming from the same app.

Sensitive Notifications

Android 15 adds a strong layer of protection to your OTPs. The new sensitive notification feature will prevent malicious Android apps from reading your OTPs.

OTP fraud has been on the rise in recent years, and hence this feature could save people their hard-earned money if implemented correctly.

High-Quality Webcam

Android 14 QPR 1 for Google Pixel phones added a feature to use your Android phone as a webcam for a PC, but the output quality was basic. Android 15 resolves this problem by adding a high-quality webcam mode that disables power optimizations.

This feature has been spotted in Android 15 Developer Preview 2, where a new “HQ” symbol appears in the webcam preview. As it disables power optimizations, expect some battery drain.

Universal Keyboard Vibration Control

Android 15 will let you universally disable keyboard vibration. The new “keyboard vibration” toggle, when turned off, overrides individual keyboard apps’ settings. However, you will be able to control the haptics of each keyboard app by disabling it.

These are some notable additions to Android 15 that have been discovered so far.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also tried to contact and hire Google’s AI researchers with personal emails.

It seems to be a part of the broader “AI talent war” among the big giants. Google previously hired Logan Kilpatrick, OpenAI’s former head of developer relations.

Speaking of Apple’s development of AI, the company has reportedly formed a team of artificial intelligence experts in a secretive European laboratory in Zurich. The professionals have experience working with Google and some other big tech companies. The laboratory is referred to as the “Vision Lab” and it appears to focus on advanced multimodal large language models. The company’s other AI development centers are located in California and Seattle.

The development is expected to enrich iOS 18 with generative AI features in various applications, including Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages. Apple is taking the on-device approach to run the features and has also acquired French startup Datakalab to develop its on-device large language model.

The Geekbench listing of the Galaxy F55 5G (SM-E556B) has revealed that it will feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. The listing does not mention the name of the chip, but the CPU configuration and GPU detail (Adreno 644, available via source code) confirm the device is equipped with the said chipset.

The listing also indicates that it has 8 GB of RAM and Android 14. In the single-core test, the device scored 843 points, and in the multi-core test, it recorded a score of 2307. Although the phone’s other specifications remain undisclosed, speculation suggests they will mirror those of the C55.

The Galaxy C55 has a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, up to 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of built-in storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging. HMD Vibe: A Budget-Friendly Phone for the US Market, But Will it Vibe with Consumers?

HMD Global, the company known for Nokia-branded Android phones, has recently unveiled a new smartphone specifically for the US market called the HMD Vibe. This phone is designed to appeal to budget-conscious users, but how well will it compete in a market saturated with other affordable options? Let’s delve into the phone’s features, specifications, price, and potential challenges in the US and global markets, particularly India.

HMD Vibe

1. HMD Vibe: Features and Specifications

The Vibe offers a budget Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor, suitable for everyday tasks. It comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, along with 4GB of virtual RAM for enhanced performance. The 4,000mAh battery promises two days of usage on a single charge, but with only 10W wired charging, it might not appeal to users who prioritize fast charging capabilities.

The display is a decent-sized 6.56 inches with an HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The camera system is basic, featuring a 13MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor on the back, and a 5MP front-facing camera. All cameras include HDR, AI processing, and skin tone optimization.

The phone boasts an IP52 rating, making it dust-proof and splash-resistant. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0 and 4G LTE, but it lacks a fingerprint scanner, relying solely on insecure face unlock for biometric security.

2. Price and Availability

The HMD Vibe carries a competitive price tag of $150. It will be available for purchase in the US from May onwards through HMD’s website and major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.

3. HMD Vibe vs. the US Market

While the Vibe’s price point is attractive, the US market offers a plethora of other affordable smartphones with potentially better features. Some competitors in this range include the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, TCL 50 5G, and TCL 50 XE 5G which boast 5G connectivity, and the Moto G Play (2024) which comes with 4G connectivity.

Therefore, the Vibe might face stiff competition, especially considering consumers can even find 5G phones at a similar price point.

4. HMD Vibe vs. the Global Market (India)

The HMD Pulse series, which the Vibe is likely a rebranded version of, is also planned for launch in markets like India. However, the Indian smartphone market is highly competitive, with numerous brands offering devices with much better specifications at similar prices.

For instance, several Chinese manufacturers provide phones with superior camera capabilities, faster processors, and larger storage options within the $150 range.

Therefore, the Vibe’s success in the Indian market is less certain, given the abundance of feature-packed competitors at competitive prices.

5. Branding and Design Considerations

While the HMD Vibe aims for a budget-conscious audience, its branding strategy might raise questions. HMD has dropped the familiar Nokia branding, which could potentially impact brand recognition.

Furthermore, the “Vibe” name itself might resonate more with a Gen Z audience, but the phone’s design doesn’t necessarily exude a trendy or particularly attractive aesthetic that would appeal to this demographic.

6. Conclusion

The HMD Vibe offers a decent set of features for its price point, but its success hinges on its ability to compete in a saturated market, particularly in the US where strong competitors exist with potentially better value propositions.

In highly competitive markets like India, the Vibe’s middling specifications might not be enough to stand out against feature-rich devices offered by other manufacturers.

HMD’s branding strategy of moving away from Nokia and the phone’s design choices might also present challenges in terms of establishing a strong brand identity and attracting a specific target audience.

Overall, while the Vibe might find a niche in the US market due to its budget-friendly price, its long-term success will depend on how effectively it addresses the competition and adapts its branding and design to resonate with target consumers.
