[Update] Now that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is confirmed to launch on October 25, you can easily get a month’s worth of free gameplay by following this method. The original story continues…

Excited for Call of Duty Black Ops 6? Activision will be revealing the game on June 9th! In the meantime, here’s a sneaky way to snag some free playtime in this upcoming first-person shooter.

Nvidia has recently announced its partnership with Xbox to offer GeForce gamers 3 months of free access to PC Xbox Game Pass via GeForce Game rewards. What this means is gamers who have a PC with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 series GPU and above can claim the PC Game Pass through GeForce Rewards.

As we already know, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be available on the Xbox Game Pass from day one, and IGN has recently confirmed that it won’t require a new tier of the game pass. With that in mind, the NVIDIA GPU users who claim the Xbox Game Pass 3 months of free access can essentially play the game for free, however, there is a catch.

Activision has currently not revealed the exact date from which the Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be playable. Industry rumors suggest that the game will be playable sometime in October, so, here are two crucial steps that you need to take to play the game for free.

Step 1: Claiming the Xbox Game Pass code

Create an NVIDIA Account or log in to your existing account by visiting this link.

Make sure that you are enrolled in GeForce Rewards on the website

Download and install the GeForce Experience app.

Click on your avatar icon in the top right corner and go to the redeem section.

Claim the Xbox Game Pass 3 month code which will appear here starting June 4, 2024, at 6 am PT.

Step 2: Hold off on redeeming the code

Based on past Call of Duty releases, they’ve typically launched between October 12th and November 13th. This free-play method could score you at least two weeks of Call of Duty Black Ops 6, potentially stretching to a month and a half if you hold off on redeeming the free Game Pass months till August 30, which is the last date of redeeming it. But, this trick only works if the game releases by November 30th. If Activision delays Black Ops 6 further, the free play window might disappear.

Call of Duty fans, there is more news for you. If you are still recovering from the launch of the Black Ops 6, hear this. As per a prominent gaming source on Twitter, @dom_lucrea, there will be a single-player campaign mission set against the backdrop of the horrific 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. This aligns with the game’s cryptic tagline, “The Truth Lies.” ! Details are still under wraps, but this is a bold move by the publisher.

June 10 is when the covers will be taken off the game

Activision dropped a surprise announcement for the new Black Ops game, leaving the release date, platforms, and gameplay specifics shrouded in secrecy. However, we do have a date to mark on our calendars: June 10th’s Xbox conference, where the game will be officially unveiled.

Previous rumors suggested the game, developed by Treyarch Studios, would delve into the Gulf War of the 1990s (approximately ten years before 9/11). With the official reveal on the horizon, it seems the true story behind Black Ops 6 might stray from those initial speculations.
The game will also be bundled with the Xbox Game Pass from day 1, which will be exciting as well, as this would be the first time Activision Blizzard does something like this. Well, Microsoft is at the helm now, so we can expect similar changes in the future as well.

In a decisive (yet extremely important) move to ensure fair play, Activision has announced a significant update to its anti-cheat technology, Ricochet, for the Call of Duty series. The update specifically targets players who use aim assist with a mouse and keyboard setup, a practice considered unfair by many in the gaming community.

Aim assist gives keyboard and mouse players an unfair advantage

Aim assist, traditionally a feature to help console players using controllers, has become a contentious issue in competitive gaming. It helps in maintaining accuracy and targeting, but when combined with the precision of a mouse and keyboard, it gives players an unfair advantage. In response, Activision’s Ricochet will now automatically shut down the game if it detects the use of aim assist by mouse and keyboard players. This applies to titles like Modern Warfare 3, Modern Warfare 2, and Warzone.

This bold step is part of a larger effort by Activision to maintain a level playing field in its games. The use of unauthorized third-party hardware like XIM and Cronus Zen, which has allowed players to exploit aim assist while using a mouse and keyboard, has been a longstanding issue. Previously, Activision had warned of bans for repeat offenders using such devices. This new measure aims to combat the increasing use of software like reWASD, which can create a virtual controller setup, tricking the game into enabling aim assist for mouse and keyboard players.

Cheating in video games undermines the essence of fair play and competition, the core values that make gaming an enjoyable and rewarding experience. It not only gives cheaters an unfair advantage but also spoils the experience for other players who are playing by the rules. This practice disrupts the balance and integrity of the game, leading to frustration and a diminished sense of accomplishment for all involved. Cheating erodes the trust and community spirit essential for the healthy, competitive environment that games are designed to foster, ultimately detracting from the joy and satisfaction that come from genuine skill and achievement. As Call of Duty prepares to launch its Season 1 Reloaded update, this development signals a strong commitment by Activision to uphold competitive integrity.

After days of waiting, Microsoft has successfully closed its $69 billion acquisition of video game company Activision Blizzard, a move that could have potentially disrupted the rapidly-developing cloud gaming market. While the deal had already gotten approvals from various regulatory bodies, it hit a snag with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) earlier this year. The deal marks a key moment, highlighting the CMA’s growing influence in global tech regulation since Britain’s exit from the EU.

Microsoft now has access to a huge mobile gaming market

The British regulator initially blocked the acquisition last April, citing concerns over Microsoft’s overwhelming control over cloud gaming. The CMA’s tough stance paid off when Microsoft agreed to sell streaming rights for Activision’s popular titles, including “Call of Duty” and “Candy Crush Saga,” alleviating fears of reduced competition and choice for gamers.

This move by the CMA didn’t just resonate within the UK but set a standard for other nations grappling with big tech’s increasing sway over multiple sectors. Interestingly, the CMA was the only regulatory body to force such a concession from Microsoft, emphasizing its commitment to economic growth and consumer welfare.

The acquisition boosts Microsoft’s play for the more than $90-billion mobile gaming market, a sector where Sony, the industry leader, has lesser impact. Michael Pachter, a Wedbush Securities analyst, noted that Microsoft gains over “$3 billion of mobile revenues” instantly, filling its Game Pass subscription service with an array of content that’s sure to attract more gamers.

While the deal appears to be a win for Microsoft, it can also be viewed as a victory for regulators committed to ensuring fair play in rapidly growing industries. Sarah Cardell, CMA Chief Executive, indicated that this outcome was possible because the regulator remained “free from political influence,” despite pushback from Microsoft and limited support from the British government.

In an attempt to win over UK approval, Microsoft might be willing to lose the cloud gaming rights of Activision. The company is looking to acquire Activision Blizzard but has faced pushback from the UK anti-competition watchdog. So, it might sell off the gaming firm’s cloud gaming rights.

Microsoft-Activision Merger: Cloud Gaming rights could be sold to Ubisoft

The American tech giant is looking to restructure its Activision acquisition deal by transferring the cloud gaming rights for current and new Activision Blizzard games to Ubisoft. Giving cloud gaming to the French video game publisher is likely to help the UK regulators approve Microsoft’s massive 68.7 billion US Dollar deal. For those unaware, authorities in the UK are concerned over the impacts of this multi-billion dollar deal on cloud gaming competition.

According to Microsoft President Brad Smith, “To address the concerns about the impact of the proposed acquisition on cloud game streaming raised by the UK Competition and Markets Authority, we are restructuring the transaction to acquire a narrower set of rights. This includes executing an agreement effective at the closing of our merger that transfers the cloud streaming rights for all current and new Activision Blizzard PC and console games released over the next 15 years to Ubisoft Entertainment SA, a leading global game publisher. The rights will be in perpetuity.”

If this deal comes true, Microsoft will not be able to release Activision Blizzard games exclusively on its Xbox Cloud Gaming platform. This means that Ubisoft will have control over the streaming rights to Activision Blizzard games outside of EU. The publisher would even be able to license these games back to Microsoft to be feature in Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Microsoft’s bid to acquire video gaming giant Activision Blizzard for about $68.7 billion has been approved by regulators of the European Union. The development comes just weeks after the deal was blocked by the UK regulators.

The approval for the deal to proceed is contingent on Microsoft making concessions on access to cloud gaming. It requires the company to automatically grant a license for Activision Blizzard games to any competing cloud-based gaming service.

The European Union regulators found that Microsoft “would have no incentive to refuse to distribute Activision’s games to Sony” and that “even if Microsoft did decide to withdraw Activision’s games from the PlayStation, this would not significantly harm competition in the consoles market.”

However, it found that the deal could harm competition around the distribution of PC and console games through cloud gaming services. As a remedy, Microsoft will need to offer free licenses to consumers in EU countries that would allow them to stream via “any cloud game streaming services of their choice.” This applies to all current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games that they have a license for.

Although Microsoft received approval from the EU, the deal remains doubtful because of UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) which was blocked a few weeks back. The Redmond-based tech giant has said that it plans to aggressively appeal the UK decision. Regulators in South Africa, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Serbia, and Japan have approved the deal, while China, South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia are all still reviewing the deal.

Microsoft is apparently facing issues with its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in the UK. The government’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has blocked this merger proposition, citing possible monopolistic effects of this deal in the gaming industry.

Microsoft faces a roadblock in Activision Blizzard acquisition in the UK

In a statement, the CMA stated that it is preventing “Microsoft’s proposed purchase of Activision over growing concerns the deal would alter the future of the fast growing cloud gaming market, leading to reduced innovation and less choice for UK gamers over the years to come.” To put things simply, the agency is worried that the acquisition would allow the American tech giant to hold a monopoly in the recently growing cloud gaming market. Since Microsoft announced that it will be buying out Activision Blizzard, it has faced scrutiny from various government bodies across the globe as well as its market competitors.

An example being Sony, which claimed that the company could leverage this acquisition to offer inferior versions of its products (games) from Activision Blizzard on its popular PlayStation platform. Apart from this, it is also facing a pending lawsuit in the US by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) against Microsoft on the grounds that the brand might breach anti trust laws as well and could even establish a monopoly.

The CMA further added that “We have concluded that the merger would result in the most powerful operator in the fast-developing market for cloud gaming, with a current market share of 60-70%, acquiring a portfolio of world-leading games with the incentive to withhold those games from competitors and substantially weaken competition in this important growing market.”

In a recent response to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Sony expressed its ongoing opposition to Microsoft’s planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Sony voiced concerns that Microsoft’s takeover could potentially impact the performance and quality of Call of Duty on PlayStation, resulting in fans switching to Xbox. The fear is that Microsoft could intentionally or unintentionally release a version of the game on PlayStation where bugs and errors emerge only on the game’s final level or after later updates, leading to a loss of confidence in PlayStation as a go-to venue to play Call of Duty.

Sony stated that there would be no viable way for it or the CMA to assess how Microsoft chooses to allocate its resources and the quality/quantity of engineers it devotes to the PlayStation version of Call of Duty to ensure that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) would be treated fairly and equally. However, degrading the quality of Call of Duty on PlayStation would not be the wisest course of action, as it would likely lead to a bigger backlash against Microsoft and Activision than Sony.

Microsoft, on the other hand, noted in its response to the CMA that it has offered to provide Sony with parity on release date, content, features, upgrades, quality, and playability with the Xbox platform. The catch is that Sony must accept Microsoft’s proposed 10-year agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation, and Microsoft would be willing to agree to a third-party assessor to oversee the platform uniformity for the sake of the game.

In addition, Sony’s letter also reiterated its concern that Microsoft would make Call of Duty a Game Pass exclusive, thus away from PlayStation. However, Microsoft refuted this claim, stating that it made zero business sense to take Call of Duty off of PlayStation.

The CMA is set to make a final ruling on the deal by April 26th. Reports suggest that the European Union is set to give the merger the green light following news that Microsoft will bring Call of Duty and other games to Nintendo and GeForce Now platforms.

The popular studio behind one of the most popular video gaming series has just announced a new AAA mobile game title in the Call of Duty series. The original Call of Duty: Mobile was announced back in 2019 and has also been massively successful in the global market. Since its release, it has brought more than 1.5 billion US Dollars for the company.

With its previous flagship Call of Duty game for PC and console seeing lackluster sales, the studio plans to balance it out with a new mobile game. Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has just been announced, although, the company has yet to reveal any finer details regarding this game. Although, based on its name, we can safely assume that it will be a similar game as the Call of Duty: Warzone that is available on PC and gaming console.

In other words, the game will also be based on the battle royale genre with the last man or team standing winning the game. While Activision has yet to announce any key details, it has confirmed that it will be unveiled on 15th September 2022. Till then, the company has also shared a very short teaser trailer.

Top Stories From Last Week

Microsoft to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion

Out of nowhere, Microsoft made a huge announcement on January 18. The company has decided to acquire the struggling game studio Activision Blizzard for a whopping $68.7 billion.

For the unaware, Activision Blizzard is the studio behind some of the popular franchises like Call of Duty, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Candy Crush, and others. If this deal goes through, it will be the biggest acquisition of both Microsoft and in the gaming industry.

Unsurprisingly, the titles from the studio will be offered on Xbox/PC Game Pass. Having said that, it’s not known how Microsoft is planning to solve Activision Blizard’s sexual harassment and discrimination issues.

Samsung quietly announces Exynos 2200 flagship mobile SoC

Samsung was supposed to unveil its new generation of premium mobile SoC called Exynos 2200 on January 11. However, that didn’t happen. But anyway, the company did announce the chipset quietly on January 18.

Interestingly, the press release does not properly mention the specifications of the latest chipset. The only takeaway is that the chip features an AMD RDNA 2 GPU called Xclipse with support for ray tracing and variable rate shading.

The company is yet to officially disclose the SoC’s improvements in performance over its predecessor.

Call of Duty: Mobile has proven to be successful in the United States where 28.5 million or 16.6 percent of all downloads have taken place. India arrives second with 17.5 million installs or 10.2 percent and Brazil third with 12 million installs or 7 percent of total downloads. The majority of the downloads took place via Google’s Play Store app which garnered up to 89 million downloads accounting for 52 percent of all installs. On the other hand, iOS version saw 83 million downloads or 48 percent of the total share

Alongside the growing number of downloads, Call of Duty: Mobile generated most of its revenue in the first month in October 2019. It grossed over 55 million US dollars compared to 31 million US dollars in November 2019. So far, the US has accounted for the largest share of the revenue with players spending 36 million dollars (or 42 percent of the total player bases’ expenditure). Meanwhile, Japanese players were the second-highest spenders in the game with 11 million dollars or 13.2 percent of total player expenditure while Great Britain arrived third with 2.6 million dollars or just 3 percent in total share.

Regardless of declining spending in the game, Call of Duty: Mobile is ranked in the top 25 grossing titles in its key markets. The online multiplayer mobile game is free to play and offers fresh content with every new update, similar to PUBG Mobile. It is yet another example of a popular PC/Console game finding success in the mobile gaming market.

“Call of Duty: Mobile has racked up more than $2 million spent on 20 million installs so far, according to Sensor Tower estimates. This includes Activision and Garena’s versions of the game,” claims the Sensor Tower’s report. This is a massive success for Activision, and it’s exactly what the company needed after a bumpy and unstable first quarter.

The game is being praised widely for its inclusion of multiple game modes. Call of Duty: Mobile has combined its signature gaming modes like Team Deathmatch, Search & Destroy, Domination, Frontline with the more contemporary Battle Royale, offering more range of choices than any other free free-person-shooter.

You can download the game for free on iOS, and Android devices. The game requires no money to play and does not even limit the number of rounds you can play between other content. It’s a surprisingly positive step for Activision who are infamous for not being the most gamer friendly when it comes to microtransactions and such.
