Tang Mingfang was convicted in 2019 and served time in prison for his allegations against Amazon that it was involved in illegal child labor practices in China. Mingfang was released in September 2021 and the whistleblower is now calling on Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to beam his searchlight on his case and help overturn his conviction.

After leaking seemingly incriminating documents alleging that Amazon China was engaged in illegal work practices, Tang Mingfang had a torrid time with the Chinese authorities from 2019 when he made the claim. He had leaked some compelling documents that the Foxconn factory in Hengyang, China that produces Amazon Echo and Kindle products was engaged in illegal labor practices by employing underage workers among other practices.

Tang said he was tortured by Chinese police before being jailed and has now penned a letter to Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s executive chairman and founder to carry out its investigation on the incident. He is calling on Jeff Bezos to ask Hengyang Foxconn to face up to its won problems and tender an apology to him. He also requests that the company communicate with the local court so that his guilty verdict should be revoked.

While Amazon insists that it has put in place measures to prevent violations of its supply chain standards, it has continued to come hard on violations. There has not been any response from Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos on the request by Tang. Foxconn remained noncommittal to the issue. it continues to regularly assess suppliers using independent auditors. Foxconn has not had a response at this time.

Increasing competition from domestic rivals – JD.com and Alibaba’s Tmall entrenched Amazon in China. The world’s largest e-commerce retailer- Amazon failed to impress Chinese users through its online store. Amazon will cease its online store operations in China by July 18th. It will keep focusing on selling overseas goods and cloud services in the country.

The Chinese e-commerce market majorly relies on domestic players which constitute 82 percent of the total market. Alibaba’s Tmall and JD.com are the biggest online e-commerce portals of China.

The buyers won’t be able to place orders on Amazon China online store. Whereas they can keep enjoying overseas shipments from Amazon’s global stores in the United States, Britain, Germany, and Japan. Within the next 90 days, Amazon.cn will cool off support for all its domestic dealers.

“We are working closely with our sellers to ensure a smooth transition and to continue to deliver the best customer experience possible,” the spokeswoman said in a statement.

The company will keep investing in the country through its Global Stores, Global Selling, Kindle-e-readers, and other online content. Amazon Web Services and other businesses will remain unaffected with the Amazon.cn shutdown.

The sudden announcement from Amazon, made shares of Alibaba and JD.com rose 1 percent.

The multinational companies are facing stiff competition from Chinese retailers. In 2016, Walmart sold its entire online shopping platform to JD.com in China. On the other hand, Xiaomi and Huawei are trending with the increasing shares in the electronics market. Google, Netflix, Facebook, Google all are struggling to get into China’s increasing economy to reap some benefits.

The Huawei Mate 9 was released last year with 4GB RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. Later this year, Huawei released a 6GB variant with 128GB of storage. If you head to the official website, this new model is priced at ¥4499 ($652) but you can get it for less than that on Amazon China.

For ¥3998 ($580), you can pick up this variant with an extra 2GB of RAM and double the storage space as the base version. That’s $72 less than how much you will pay on the official website. Do note that the price cut only applies to the Mocha Gold variant. All the other color variants are still pretty expensive.

Just in case you think, you have no need for the extra RAM and storage, the same seller has the 4GB + 64GB variant for ¥3696 ($534).

The Huawei Mate 9 has a 5.9-inch 108op screen, a Kirin 960 processor,  a set of Leica dual-cameras on the rear (20MP+12MP) with OIS, PDAF, and laser autofocus, and there is also an 8MP shooter up front. That large display is powered by a 4000mAh battery and there is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner too.

The Snapdragon 820 might be a year old already but it is still a powerful processor and since new phones sporting the new Snapdragon 835  processor will soon be released, phones with the older Snapdragon 820 are getting price cuts. One of them is the ZUK Z2 Pro.

Lenovo’s ZUK Z2 Pro is the more powerful variant of the Z2 series. It has a larger 5.2-inch Super AMOLED full HD display, 4GB/6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of storage. The rear camera is a 13MP f/1.8 sensor with OIS, PDAF, and dual LED flash; and there is an 8MP f/2.0 shooter up front. You also get a front-mounted fingerprint scanner and the built-in 3100mAh battery also supports Quick Charge 3.0. Unlike some other flagships released last year, the ZUK Z2 Pro has an audio jack and sports a version 3.1 USB Type-C port.
