Apple finally launched its next-generation iPhone 12 models which comes with an OLED display and 5G connectivity support. With the launch of this new lineup, the pricing of some of the older Apple iPhone models has reduced significantly.

For instance, the pricing of the Apple iPhone XR has been slashed by 800 yuan. The 64GB model now costs 3,999 yuan (~$593) instead of 4,799 yuan (~$712) while the 128GB model is priced at 4,499 yuan (~$667) instead of 5,299 yuan (~$786).

On the other hand, the pricing of the iPhone 11 has been reduced by 700 yuan. The 64GB storage model is now available for 4,799 yuan (~$712) while the 128GB and 256GB models are priced at 5,299 yuan (~$786) and 6,099 yuan (~$905) respectively. The new pricing is now reflecting on the company’s official website.

Coming to the latest smartphones, Apple has launched four models this time — iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. All of these devices are powered by the latest A14 Bionic chipset, which is manufactured using the 5nm process.

The standard model starts at $799 while the Mini variant is priced at $699. On the other hand, the pricing of the Pro variant starts at $999 while the Pro Max starts at $1,099. As for availability, the iPhone 12 will start shipping from 23rd October while the other three models will be available from 13th November in the United States.

Apple might just be killing off its 2019 flagship and budget offering with the launch of its upcoming iPhone 12 series. The launch will apparently bring the cost of iPhone 11 down to 549 US Dollars while discontinuing iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone XR.

According to a new leak from tipster iAppleTimes, the base iPhone 11 model will survive the discontinuation but will have its price slashed by 150 US Dollars. Cutting the previous generation’s flagship makes sense, as lowering the price of a high end model might eat away at the customer base for the upcoming iPhone 12 series. Furthermore, the latest lineup is said to comprise of four different size variants, so dropping the iPhone 11’s price might have it positioned as a mid range offering for customers.

The iPhone XR being discontinued is still a bit more reasonable considering the device was launched back in 2018. Since then, it has been one of the highest selling models in its generation and the newer launch might offer an upgraded iteration albeit with a different name. A new report has suggested that Apple’s iPhone XR is the world’s highest selling smartphone of 2019. Omdia released a list of the top smartphones by the number of units sold and the Cupertino giant’s offering took the top spot.

According to the report, Apple shipped a total of 46.3 million iPhone XR units which is more than double what it had sold in 2018 when the device originally launched. On the other hand, the more recently launched iPhone 11 sold over 37 million units during 2019. Notably, 5 out of the top 10 most popular smartphones on the list belong to Apple.

With the iPhone XR taking the lead followed by the iPhone 11. The third, fourth and fifth spots went to Samsung with its Galaxy A10 (30.3 million units shipped), Galaxy A50 (24.2 million units shipped), and Galaxy A20 (19.2 million units shipped) smartphones respectively. Notably, the South Korean tech giant also had 4 of the top 10 most popular smartphones list of 2019.

The second half of the list starts with Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max at number six with 17.6 million units being shipped, followed by iPhone 8 at the 7th spot with 17.4 million shipments. Only the eighth spot was a non iPhone or Galaxy smartphone and went to the Redmi Note 7 (With 16.3 million units shipped worldwide), a Xiaomi subsidiary company. The last two spots were taken by iPhone 11 Pro and Galaxy J2 Core with 15.5 and 15.2 million units shipped respectively.

The list reveals that both Apple and Samsung have 9 out of the total 10 most popular smartphones of 2019. While the report suggests that the former’s global shipments have been falling in recent years, the company is still making handsets that millions of people are still willing to purchase. However, this is an endgame picture since the smartphone industry constantly changes, especially with 5G networking, so we can expect to see some other companies’ offerings on the list for 2020.

Counterpoint Research has just released research data of the top 10 highest-selling phones globally in the third quarter (Q3) 2019. The data encompasses phones sold in all parts of the world and presents with some surprises.

First, Apple’s iPhone XR emerged as the highest-grossing model in the third quarter of 2019 even though Apple’s overall sales declined during the period.  Samsung and OPPO dominated the ranking with three top-selling models apiece. The Galaxy A10 is ranked as the second top-selling model while the Galaxy A50 came in as third. The OPPO A9 is ranked at the fourth spot while the iPhone 11 completes the top 5.

Other models in the list include the OPPO A5s at the sixth position, Galaxy A50 at number seven, OPPO A5 at the eighth position. The P30 may be a surprise inclusion considering the US sanctions but the model is very popular in China.

Historically, Apple has primarily relied on Chinese manufacturers and their home facilities for the mass production of their iPhone lineups. However, in recent times the American company has been taking planned downsizing steps in the region whilst investing its production in other countries such as India and Vietnam. Now, Apple is starting to export from India after Foxconn started the production of the iPhone XR.

According to a report, Apple will see an export doubling its value to $3.2 billion this fiscal year. The Cupertino-based company is set to increase its manufacturing and financial commitment within the Indian subcontinent. Ravi Shankar Prasad, IT and Electronics Minister, met Foxconn officials that stated that the iPhone XR model is now being made in the Chennai (Tami Nadu) factory in South India. Initially, Apple had first invested in Indian production and manufacturing via Wistron. It is another Taiwanese maker similar to Foxconn but is based in Bangalore, Karnataka.

Foxconn Group Chairman, Terry Gou, stated that the company is looking at the beginning of mass production of iPhones in India. India is known to levy import duties and tariffs on foreign imports. However, the country also helps incentivize foreign manufacturers to set up production within India. Notable examples include major brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, and LG.

Local manufacturing also ensures that Apple can avoid the 20% duty that the Indian Government has mandated for imported devices. Thus, the American tech giant is hopeful of pricing its handset offerings more aggressively within the second-largest smartphone market in the world after China.

Apple iPhone XR, a popular smartphone from the US-based tech giant which was launched last year, is now getting assembled in India. As per the reports, Apple has now started selling locally assembled iPhone XR in the Indian market.

The company’s iPhone XR boxes with an “Assembled in India” tag were seen on Monday in many of the country’s electronic product retailers, including Croma, with a price tag of ₹49,900 (roughly £542) for the 64GB version.

It seems like the company is looking to expand its market share in India, the world’s second-largest smartphone market. The company has been struggling in India mostly because of the pricing of iPhones and India is now a hub of value-for-money offerings from the Chinese brands.

If the reports are to be believed, then the Apple iPhone XR are being assembled at the contract manufacturer Foxconn’s India factory in Chennai. This is being done by Apple to avoid high levies on the import of fully-built devices as well as to meet local sourcing norms for opening its own retail stores in India.

Reports indicate that the company is expected to save over 20 percent on import duties as it starts assembling devices in India. In recent years, pricing of the premium flagship offerings from the likes of Apple and Samsung have been climbing up and have crossed the $1,000 mark. Along with the premium offering, Apple had launched the iPhone XR last year, keeping the company’s earlier price point of around $750.

Now, according to the report from the market analysts, the shipments of the Apple iPhone XR crossed the 30 million units mark making it the best-selling smartphone in the first half of this year.

While the iPhone XR certainy isn’t cheap being priced at $749, however, it’s the least expensive offering compared to the other iPhones launched last year — iPhone XS and XS Max. According to the IHS Market, 13.6 million iPhone XR units shipped in the first quarter and 13.3 million shipped in the second quarter — bringing the total to 26.9 million for the first half of the year.

The second best-selling smartphone for the H1 2019 is the Samsung Galaxy A10, which shipped almost half of the units compared to the iPhone XR. Commenting on this, Jusy Hong, Research and Analysis Director said:

“Compared to the Android-based smartphone makers, Apple maintains a relatively small model lineup. This means that Apple’s total sales volume is divided among fewer models. As a result, each of Apple’s iPhone models tends to generate higher shipment numbers than comparable Android smartphones, such as those sold by Samsung.”

The Samsung Galaxy A50, Apple iPhone 8, and Xiaomi Redmi 6A are ranked third, fourth, and fifth bestselling smartphone respectively. Other devices in the list include Redmi Note 7, Galaxy J2 Core, Oppo A5, iPhone XS Max, and the Galaxy A30.

Reports from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) today, has shown how impressive iPhones have sold compared to other phones. Since Apple doesn’t announce the number of units sold, it’s however not easy to determine how iPhones thrive in terms of its sales in the market, more especially when there are reports a slump in its sales. However, the report by CIRP claims 32% of the iPhones sold in the first month of this year were iPhone XR models, while iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max jointly made up 35% of Apple’s market share.

Apple implemented a different strategy for the release of its smartphone this year by launching two expensive iPhones, then in a space of a month launching its newest entry-level tier, giving an opportunity for iOS users to upgrade. According to similar reports, 82% of users were said to have upgraded from older iOS devices, whereas 16% switch from Android. Though the launch in 2017 was a bit different in figures compared to 2018 which 86% upgraded from iOS while 21% upgraded from Android.

From estimation, there was a drop of a few percentages(4%) based on the percentage of iPhones sales in 2017 and 2018 respectively, which was reported to have been 69% as at 2017 and 65% this year. Noteworthy, these figures are estimated values gotten from the statistical evaluation of the 165 participants analyzed after the launch of the iPhone XR within a month of its release date which is October 26 this year.

Japan Display, which is a supplier to Apple for the iPhone displays, is reportedly cutting down production from December of liquid crystal display (LCD) for iPhone XR model because of the disappointing sales after its debut in October.

The reduction in the production of the LCDs is expected to be about 30 percent compared to the November peak level. It also marks a potential setback for the company which was expecting the iPhone XR supply contract as a key to breaking a four-year streak of losses.

For Japan Display, around 80 percent of its overall revenue is generated through the production of the display panel for smartphones. Majority of those earning is dependent on its business with Apple.

Earlier, the company, known as JDI, has reported sales forecast growth in the range of 10 percent to 20 percent. However, last month, the company lowered the numbers to between 5 percent to 15 percent for the year ending in March 2019. It is also cutting its operating profit margin estimate.

As per the reports, domestic factories have already lowered down the output of display panels for the iPhone XR. Further, the report adds that the company will halt production for around 10 days during the New Year holidays.

The Japan-based company’s panel inventories are reportedly running high after full-bore production in October and November. The company will now use some of the capacity freed up by this month’s output cuts for products other than smartphone displays.

Apple is conducting a more aggressive marketing strategy for its new iPhone models because of weaker sales. The company’s stock is also currently trading down for the year as Apple suppliers report order cuts across the board and investors fear the demand for iPhone XS and iPhone XR is low. The company will be reporting its iPhone sales results in a quarterly earnings call in January but Apple has already announced that it will no longer report unit sales numbers.

Along with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, US-based tech giant Apple also announced iPhone XR, which is the cheapest smartphone of the three that were unveiled at the launch event in California, USA.

The Apple iPhone XR comes with an aluminum body and glass back. Unlike the iPhone XS lineup, the new iPhone XR features a 6.1-inch LCD display with a screen resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels, offering a pixel density of 326ppi.

The company is calling the display as ‘Liquid Retina’ and claims that it is the most advanced LCD display in the industry. It features Apple‘s True Tone technology that is claimed to offer a more natural viewing experience.

While the iPhone XS series features 3D Touch, the iPhone XR lacks support for 3D Touch. However, the company has introduced Haptic Touch, which is similar to the one introduced in the MacBook trackpad.

Just like the iPhone XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR too is powered by the latest Apple A12 Bionic 7nm chipset. Apple says that the chipset unlocks new experiences for games, photography, video editing and graphics-intensive apps while still offering great battery life. It comes in three storage options — 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Coming to the camera configuration, the phone comes equipped with a single 12-megapixel sensor at the back, with a wide-angle lens and optical image stabilizer (OIS), same as the iPhone XS. On the front side, it has the same 7-megapixel True-Deth camera and comes with Face ID support that now unlocks the phone through facial recognition faster than ever. The camera also has support for Portrait Mode that enables you to take images with bokeh effect.

All the iPhone models announced this year comes with IP67 ratings and thus, the iPhone XR is also water resistant. This too runs on the latest iOS 12 operating system. As for the battery capacity, Apple claims that the battery on iPhone XR lasts one and a half hour more than the iPhone 8 Plus.

The iPhone XR comes in multiple color options, including Black, White, Blue, Coral (Pink), Yellow, and Product Red. It is priced at $749 and will be available for pre-order from October 19 and the company will start shipping the iPhone XR from October 26.
