<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>is apparently planning to expand its footprint in the automobile market by joining hands with more Chinese automobile makers to build its Aito branded electric vehicles. So here are all the details.</p>

<p>The move from the Chinese tech giant is clearly attempting to grow its presence in the automobile industry. According to Richard Yu, Huawei’s Smart Car CEO, the company will be partnering up with new legacy automakers to make its Aito branded EVs. This includes BAIC Motor and the Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC Group). This collaboration will be to manufacture new Aito automobile models.</p>

<p>The senior official revealed the company’s move during the China EV 100 forum in Beijing. Huawei has already joined hands with the Seres Group to make its Aito cars, and now, it appears the company will be producing new SUV, sedans, and other multi purpose vehicles that carry the Aito branding. Yu stated that “We&#8217;d like to fully use the automakers&#8217; resources of production capacity”.</p>

<p>As of right now, Seres has a sold a total of 80,000 Aito cars, which are also powered by Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS system. Furthermore, Huawei’s Chairman Eric Xu also added at a press conference that the brand doesn’t build its own cars, but helps other automakers to build better vehicles. So stick around for more, as we will be providing updates once more information has been available regarding this matter.</p>

<p>While it is already known and officially confirmed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Xiaomi </a>is working on its first ever electric vehicle, finer details like its design and specs are still unknown. But now, a new report has shared leaked images of the upcoming EV model&#8217;s design sketches, which revealed some of its design elements. So let&#8217;s have a look.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="768" height="433" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-768x433-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi" class="wp-image-510687" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-768x433-1.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-768x433-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-768x433-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-768x433-1-745x420.jpg 745w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure></div>

<p>Just recently, we had also reported on the company&#8217;s CEO and Founder Lei Jun personally conducting a winter snow test of this car. This showcased that the car is quite ahead in terms of development and is deep into the testing phase as well. Now, the first look of the EV also reveals that the Chinese tech giant is also partnering up with known automobile maker BAIC. For those unaware, the company had established Xiaomi Automobile back in 2021 and officially revealed its plans for an EV model.</p>

<p>Back in July 2022, the first ever prototype was tested, which was based on the BYD Han EV, and the latest sighting was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/01/18/xiaomi-car-snow-test-lei-jun/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">over a snow test</a>. The Xiaomi Car is believed to be called the Modena and its design sketches were just recently leaked. This offers us a look at both the front and rear bumpers. On the front, we can see that the car adopts a sporty look with what appears to be small side air vents and an air intake in the middle.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="507" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi" class="wp-image-510688" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-4.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-4-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-4-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Slide-16_9-69-4-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The front also hosues a pair of oval shaped headlights. Meanwhile, the rear bumpers also feature a similar side air vent imitations. Furthermore, the design is rather simple and aerodynamic. There is no other notable details at the back. While it was previously believed that Xiaomi and BYD were closely working on this project, a list of suppliers was also leaked which showcased BAIC as one of the company&#8217;s suppliers that will build one of the body parts.</p>

<p>A new report has revealed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/baic/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BAIC </a>is working on a smart car that is being co-developed with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a>. Two companies have partnered up for sometime now and it appears that the collaboration will bring another new smart car in the automobile market.</p>

<p>For those unaware, the two companies had jointly developed cars in the past, with the car maker building the actual car while the Chinese tech giant developed the supporting technology and networking infrastructure. Now, a new report has revealed that the upcoming smart car model from this joint venture will be launching sometime in the year of 2024 and will be sold in select former Huawei stores.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei" class="wp-image-498593" width="669" height="486" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df.webp 894w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df-300x218.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df-768x559.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df-696x507.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df-577x420.webp 577w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/73cf6739-9e21-46d3-9795-677ec1e3a5df-324x235.webp 324w" sizes="(max-width: 669px) 100vw, 669px" /></figure></div>

<p>The news arrives from sources close to the matter (Via <em><a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/656/953.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ITHome</a></em>) that claimed that the car is based on BAIC&#8217;s existing platform but with a different brand name. Similar to last time, the smartphone maker will provide technical solutions such as smart driving thanks to the HarmonyOS for the vehicles cockpit. This will likely also include smart car control for the upcoming car.</p>

<p>For those unaware, Huawei had launched the BAIC Group&#8217;s Arcfox Alpha S EV that had also featured the HarmonyOS platform. The Arcfox Alpha S was announced back in 2021 and featured autonomous driving as well. So, we can also expect the upcoming smart car model to also feature self driving technology too.</p>

The launch was followed up yesterday with the unveiling of five automated driving solutions deployed in cars later this year.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-384999" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev.jpg?x44794" alt="BAIC Arcfox Alpha S" width="1400" height="788" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev.jpg 1400w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px" /></a></p>
<p>The product launch is a culmination of the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s investment in autonomous vehicles and EV research and development, grossing over $1 billion. As the company continues to expand beyond tech hardware and gadgets, it is already a global leader despite sanctions by the United States and its allies. Huawei seeks to become a significant player in the EV and self-driving segment of the industry by providing innovative solutions and partnerships that produce its electric vehicle in collaboration with BAIC.</p>
<p>The two versions of the Arcfox Alpha S EV unveiled at the weekend are co-developed by Huawei&#8217;s intelligent automotive solutions arm; and BAIC Group&#8217;s Arcfox. They are both high-end luxury electric vehicles fitted with Huawei&#8217;s homegrown HarmonyOS.</p>
<p>According to Wang Jun, president of the automotive arm of Huawei, the company has formed extensive partnerships and cooperation with several automakers and industry partners in its quest to continue to extend its expertise to the automotive industry. Huawei will focus on providing solutions to automakers rather than manufacturing the car itself, as it feels it can create a niche for itself in that segment.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-385000" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="769" height="513" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2.jpg 769w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-ev-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px" /></a></p>
<p>The implication of the deployment of the HarmonyOS operating system in EVs provides exciting possibilities for EVs in terms of innovation and quality.</p>
<p>The Huawei EVs cost 388,900 yuan (~$59769) and 429,900 yuan (~$66,070) respectively, and reflect Huawei&#8217;s diversification outside its core business portfolio. The vehicles have a range of about 708km on a full charge, which is higher than the range of the Tesla Model Y which has a range of 594 km.</p>
<p>Huawei has a few other partnerships with automakers apart from BAIC Group. Chongqing Changan Automobile and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/19/gac-launch-self-driving-car-developed-by-huawei-2024/">Guangzhou Automobile</a> Group are also collaborating with the 5G global leader to develop autonomous and automated vehicles.</p>
