The Chinese manufacturer released a video yesterday to demonstrate the design of the upcoming device.

The phone is very compact as it sports a 5.84″ display. Its dimensions are 156.5 x 78.3 x 14.2mm and it weighs 264g. As you can imagine, it can be controlled singlehandedly thanks to its small size. The front panel is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 which raises the bar for protection against drops. Recently, the company announced its latest flagship Series -BV9800- and expectations were contradicted as it turned out that they adopted Helio P70 instead. Of course, that didn’t affect the new series in any way as it has many other killer features like the FLIR® Lepton® thermal camera as well as a Sony® 48MP sensor and until now the Indiegogo campaign has reached $520,000 backed by 1300 backers.

That was until today as the Blackview Marketing manager, Yan, revealed that his team is busy for the upcoming Helio P90 rugged phone, Blackview BV9900, that will launch on Indiegogo before the end of this year. We don’t expect to be widely available on e-commerce platforms before January, however, it is expected to be announced in December. Judging by its name, it will be the company’s next flagship and will carry a competitive features combo, otherwise, it wouldn’t launch on Indiegogo where customers always pick products that sell themselves.

According to the marketing manager, the upcoming Helio P90 flagship phone is a great addition to the BV series, so you can expect the same waterproof, drop-proof and dustproof performance as in every rugged smartphone from Blackview. Manufacturers are always working on developing their next devices and today, the CEO of Blackview teased the upcoming Blackview A80 Pro on his Facebook page. The photo doesn’t reveal the whole body of the device but from what is revealed, we can tell that the phone will be coming with a quad-camera setup located on the top left corner of the back cover. Also, there is a fingerprint sensor placed on the back, the good old classic spot for most phones.

Following the tease from the CEO, another render appeared showcasing a device in three colors. According to the source, the photo shows the Blackview A80 Pro as it too comes with a quad-camera setup and its body is slim with 3D glass applied. The render suggests that the phone could be available in Black, Red, and a trendy Gradient color. However, there is no information about the color palette of the gradient one.

As for when the device will hit the market, information say that it will be available this month and that it will be a mainstream device. So far, Blackview is known for its excellent rugged smartphones so, could the Blackview A80 Pro combine rugged features with the design that we see in the photos in order to stand out in the saturated mainstream smartphone market? The first thing that came to mind when referring to a thermal camera on a smartphone, was CAT S61/S60. That changed recently as Blackview announced the BV9800 Pro rugged outdoor smartphone that comes with a Thermal camera by FLIR® and boasts a Sony® 48MP camera. The feature went viral last month when the company started the “warm-up” marketing campaign. Almost 2 months later, someone would say that the Blackview BV9800 Pro is a late-comer but let’s see how both the smartphones stack up against each other.

Display & Design

The Blackview BV9800 Pro and the CAT S61 boast the most impressive design and build quality. Both phones boast excellent design and build quality and both have a super rugged body that is waterproof, drop-proof, and dustproof (IP68/IP69K/MIL-STD-810G certified). But when it comes to the display, the BV9800 Pro is a clear winner since it comes with a 6.3″ IPS FHD+ display with 19.5:9. On the other hand, the CAT S61 sports a smallish 5.2″ FHD IPS display with the classic 16:9 aspect ratio. The BV9800 Pro looks more fresh and modern thanks to its thin bezels and waterdrop notch while the CAT S61 looks like it came from the past (and it did).

The BV9800 Pro comes with Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box while S61 runs on Android Oreo, with an update to Pie. With these specs in mind, the BV9800 Pro is a clear winner both in hardware and software.

Camera

Moving on to the optics found in both phones, the brand-new Blackview phone comes with Sony’s popular 48MP sensor with night shot mode support as a part of a triple camera setup. The camera setup also includes a FLIR® Lepton® thermal imaging sensor and a 5MP sensor assisting with thermal imaging, with an extra flash. Also, there is a 16MP front shooter. The CAT S61 is apparently weaker in this part as it sports a 16MP single rear camera with dual LED flash and an 8MP front shooter.

Battery

Here things are even clearer, as BV9800 Pro houses an enormous 6580mAh battery with wireless charging support. That’s almost 47% bigger than the 4500mAh battery found in CAT S61. Both phones come with an 18W charger though.

Earlier Blackview released a poster that hints at a best camera rugged outdoor smartphone that will soon hit the market. The poster doesn’t contain too many details of what the company will be launching and the launching time but today, information from the company sheds some light to the mystery: The new model is called Blackview BV9800/BV9800 Pro. Let’s take a look at some more details.

Firstly, the new device will come with a triple rear camera setup with the main sensor being the famous Sony IMX586 48MP sensor. The IMX586 is currently the most widely used camera sensor in the midrange to flagship devices and devices like Honor View 20, OnePlus 7, VIVO X27, Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, and Xiaomi Mi 9 sporting Sony’s best mobile camera sensor to date. Of course, these devices cost from around $600 to $900+.

According to DxOmark camera testing website, the IMX586 ranks at the top of their list both in video and photo shooting. Not only does it feature a high pixel count but also is large at 1/2″ with 1.6μm pixel size (via pixel binning). As Blackview revealed, the 48MP sensor will be combined with a 5MP depth camera to achieve beautiful bokeh effect. The 3d camera will sport an ultra-wide lens offering a 120º field-of-view and a 16MP sensor.

Blackview, a popular Chinese smartphone maker known for its rugged smartphones. The company has showcased two new devices, BV9800 rugged phone and a Max 1 Projector smartphone at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona. As mechanised before the MWC, both the new devices carry some outstanding features. Both the devices are waterproof, shockproof and dustproof. Despite being rugged, and carrying Projector, Blackview has not compensated any other hardware feature in both the devices.

At MWC 2019, BV9800 rugged device was looking astonishing despite being a rugged device. Its rugged agronomic design gives a better grip and makes it even more beautiful. It’s triple rear camera module is perfectly placed in the rear middle of the device giving a mechanized techno look. Its buttons on either side are fully embedded in the body giving a tough job for dust and water to enter the device. In detail, Blackview BV9800 rugged device carries a triple camera module featuring popular Sony IMX586 48 MP+12MP secondary camera and a 16.0 MP telephoto lens on the rear side. The Chinese smartphone maker also showcased Max 1 Projector phone which comprises a laser projector along with other high-end specs. As like of its specs, it features high-end design also. On the rear side of the Max 1 projector device, there’s a single camera module along with LED flash and fingerprint sensor in the mid. Further, Blackview has engraved the branding and other certification details on the back side. Although the device is little slippery while holding in hands and catches fingerprints due to its glossy material on the back side.

On the top side, there sits a projector which makes it different from other devices. It has been encased within the little bumps on either side for protection. In the camera department, Blackview has added a front dual 16+16 megapixel cameras along with a single 16-megapixel Sony sensor on the front side. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla glass.

Yesterday, MediaTek announced its latest processor called the Helio P90. If you are wondering which manufacturer will first launch a phone powered by the new processor, then look no further than Blackview, the Chinese rugged phone maker.

In an email sent to us, Blackview says MediaTek’s new processor which boasts of a higher AI performance than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 and Huawei’s Kirin 980 processors, will first appear in its phones. The phone maker also revealed the phones are the Blackview BV9700 and the BV9800 and they should launch in the first quarter of 2019.

The Helio P90 is a 12nm octa-core processor with its cores arranged in a 2 + 6 format. The two cores are high-performance Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.2GHz while the six cores are power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. MediaTek has also ditched the Mali GPU for a PowerVR GM 9946 GPU clocked at 960MHz.

The biggest selling point of the chipset is its AI feature. The chipset is the most advanced AI chipset by the Taiwanese chip maker thanks to its APU 2.0 AI architecture, which boasts four times more processing power than the previous generation P-series processors. It brings features such as 5-person human pose tracking, 3D pose tracking, full-body avatar AR, secure and accurate facial recognition, and multiple object and scene recognition.

Other features of the new chipset include Google lens and ARCore support, support for up to 8GB LPDDR4x memory, support for 21:9 displays with resolutions up to 2520 x 1080, Bluetooth 5.0, Cat. 13 LTE, 4×4 MIMI, 3 Carrier Aggregation, single or dual camera bokeh etc. So expect a lot of these features on the Blackview BV9700 and BV9800 when they are announced next year.
