After seeing good response for its upper mid-range <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/helio">Helio</a> P60 processor, the company has added a new chipset to the lineup, the Helio P22. Alongside the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/08/28/mediatek-helio-p23-helio-p30-now-official/">Helio P23 and the P30</a>, the new processor will power mid-range smartphones.</p>

<p>The Helio P22 comes with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. MTK boasts that it is one of the first chipmakers to bring 12nm processors to the budget segment. The chip features Mediatek&#8217;s Neuropilot tech which comes with support for TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe, and Caffe2. It can select the best available AI resource for developer efficiency.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Mediatek has made sure that the new chipset also comes with trending 2018 features. So there&#8217;s support for dual 13+8MP (up to 30fps) cameras and for up to 20:9 (720&#215;1600 pixel) tall displays. The chip offers hardware as well as software based depth sensing. In fact, the P22 has a capable yet efficient hardware depth engine which brings real time <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/bokeh">bokeh</a> previews to budget smartphones.</p>
<p>Other features include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi ac, 4G support on both the SIMs, and 4-satellite GNSS.</p>
<p>Mass production of the chip is already underway and smartphones featuring Helio P22 will hit the markets by the end of Q2 2018.</p>

The camera solution brings flagship bokeh and low-light shooting to non-flagship smartphones.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-172155" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Samsung-ISOCELL-Dual.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung ISOCELL Dual" width="705" height="140" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Samsung-ISOCELL-Dual.jpg 705w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Samsung-ISOCELL-Dual-300x60.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px" /></p>
<p>What ISOCELL Dual does is to reduce the time it takes for OEMs to optimize camera sensors and the algorithm software required for the sensors. ISOCELL Dual is a combination of both the hardware and the sensor-optimization software. Think of it as a ready-to-use dual camera system.</p>
<p>For refocusing (bokeh) Samsung&#8217;s ISOCELL Dual will make use of one 13MP sensor and a 5MP sensor. On the other hand, low-light shooting will have two 8MP sensors. Depending on the one the OEM chooses, integration is supposed to be simple.</p>
<p>It is not much of a surprise that Samsung has provided a solution for non-flagship phones with dual cameras. After taking its time before joining the dual camera train itself, it has also come up with a solution for clients who use its sensors in their devices.</p>

<p>Samsung failed to mention which OEMs will make use of the technology and when we should expect to see it in the market. Nevertheless, we can be sure OEMs that do make use of it will not shy away from advertising it.</p>

There was a bit of a confusing regarding the name of the phone, but now, it&#8217;s confirmed that the new flagship will indeed be called as the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-5s/"><strong>Xiaomi Mi 5S</strong></a>. First of all, both Xiaomi&#8217;s CEO, Lei Jun and Xiaomi&#8217;s Market Leader, Tony have started posting on Weibo using the Xiaomi Mi 5S. So, it basically confirms the name. What&#8217;s more, like tradition, Lei Jun has even posted a camera sample taken from the Mi 5S, giving us the first look at the phone&#8217;s camera performance.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-lei-jun-camera-sample.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-99317" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-lei-jun-camera-sample.png?x44794" alt="mi 5s camera sample from Lei Jun" width="597" height="415" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-lei-jun-camera-sample.png 597w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-lei-jun-camera-sample-300x209.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></a></p>
<p>Now, the image that you see below is from the Xiaomi Mi 5S without any filters. We already know that the phone will <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/09/22/fresh-xiaomi-teaser-confirms-mi-5s-dual-cameras/">come with dual cameras at the back</a>, so effects like bokeh should be easily produced by the phone&#8217;s camera setup. While we are unable to tell much about the camera quality of the device, the colors have come out quite well.</p>
<figure id="attachment_99318" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-99318" style="width: 1280px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-99318" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample.jpg?x44794" alt="Mi 5S Camera Sample" width="1280" height="960" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-99318" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi Mi 5S First Camera Sample</figcaption></figure>

<p>Although the EXIF data revealed just 1280 x 960 resolution for me, mydrivers seems to have got hold of the original image with the detailed EXIF data. Their data confirms that this is taken from the Mi 5S and reveals more details like shutter speed (1/750 sec), ISO 100, f/2.0 aperture, and 3264 x 2448 resolution. Even this is low resolution, but Weibo usually compresses the image file and hence, the original photo resolution should have been upwards of 12/13MP.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-EXIF.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-99319" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-EXIF.jpg?x44794" alt="Mi 5S camera sample EXIF" width="600" height="183" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-EXIF.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mi-5s-camera-sample-EXIF-300x92.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>So, what do you think about the camera sample from the Mi 5S?</p>
