OPPO has started releasing the August 2025 ColorOS 15 update. The rollout is happening in phases from August 13 to August 31 for the following devices: OPPO Find N5, Find N3, Find N3 Flip, Find X8, Find X8 Pro, Reno 14, Reno 14 Pro, Reno 13, Reno 13 Pro, Reno 12, Reno 12 Pro, and Reno 11, Reno 11 Pro.

Fluency Features

Two new features stand out in this update. BeaconLink lets you send texts, images, and voice messages to people nearby without using the internet. You can turn it on by going to Settings > Mobile Network > BeaconLink.

Split View has also been improved. It no longer forces fixed ratios, giving you full control over screen size when using two apps at once.

System and Notifications

System animations for opening, moving, and resizing floating windows are smoother. System stability has also been improved.

Notifications in landscape mode now show in a simpler banner to reduce interruptions. You can swipe down on a banner to open the app in a floating window. Tapping the banner opens the app in a floating window instead of switching to full screen.

Private Safe

The update adds several new functions to Private Safe:

• Share images and videos.
• Customize album covers.
• Sort and view media by time.
• Add files under the “Other files” category.
• Add unlimited files in the Documents section, instead of the earlier 500 limit.

These changes work only on devices running OS version 14.0 and above.

Rollout Details

The update is being released in batches, so users may not receive it at the same time. The list of supported devices does not show priority order, and timing will vary by model.

• Save to Mind Space enables users to capture screen content as memories, which the system sorts and summarizes automatically.

The Recorder app now includes an “In-person recordings” group. Audio captured in Standard, Meeting, or Interview modes is automatically sorted into this group.

Photos and Camera Tools

• Users can now export videos as live photos, or convert live photos and videos into high-resolution still images.
• A soft light filter has been added to Portrait and Photo modes to give images a more refined look.
• The new AI Recompose feature adjusts photo layout, aspect ratio, and colors automatically. Suggested filters can also be applied with one tap.

Sound and Notification Controls

• The alarm volume can now gradually increase from low to high. This setting is available in Clock > Alarm > Settings > Gradual alarm volume.
• A “Temporarily block” option allows users to swipe away banner notifications and pause them while watching videos or playing games.

Interface and Font Options

• Users can now apply OPPO Sans and One Sans fonts in more languages.
• Specific photo albums can now be hidden from the main photo list.
• Mini windows can be moved to the bottom of the screen.
• A fix has been added for display location issues with mini windows.

In a recent SmartPrix report, the first look of both the ColorOS 15 and OxygenOS 15 custom skins were shared. These came from early beta testers in China. Looking at these images, we can see smooth new animations, blurring, a redesigned control panel, and a new Always on Display transition. There was even a Dynamic Island-like feature as well. If you haven’t picked it up yet, all of these seem directly inspired by the iOS on Apple iPhones.

Dynamic Island was first introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro series, and it is arriving on the next gen Oppo and OnePlus custom skins. You can apparently save up to 4 apps here and will likely be situated around the punch hole cutout on the phone’s display. We can even see it work with certain activities like order status, music, and more. Similarly, even the advanced blur feature on the notification shade and control panel is reminiscent of iOS as well.

But keeping all of these aside, there are plenty of new features and functions on the ColorOS 15 and OxygenOS 15. Animations are seeing an overhaul, allowing users to seamlessly switch between multiple apps. This should make the entire experience fluid. Lastly, the AOD Lock Screen Transition feature a new transition when moving from the Always On Display screen to the Lock Screen. Soon after the company confirmed the event, tipster Digital Chat Station released a Weibo post to speculate on the launch date of the Find X8 series.

Speaking of the Find X8 series, DCS has speculated that Oppo may unveil it on Oct. 21. The Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Find X8 Pro Satellite Communication Version are expected to feature the upcoming Dimensity 9400 chipset.

DCS also confirmed that they will announce the Dimensity 9400 chip on October 9. The Vivo X200 and X200 Pro launching on Oct. 14 will be the world’s first phones to come equipped with the new chip. He also mentioned that the OnePlus 13, which is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, will be announced by the end of October.

The Oct. 21 Find X8 series launch event is expected to see the arrival of multiple products. The leak from DCS indicates that the announcement of the Oppo Pad 3 Pro tablet, the Enco X3 TWS earbuds, the new color variant of the Oppo Watch X, and magnetic ecosystem accessories will coincide with the Find X8 trio. He mentioned in the comments section of the Weibo post that the Pad 3 Pro is likely to receive the ColorOS 15 upgrade by the end of this year.

Last year, Oppo released ColorOS 14 (based on Android 14) in November, a month after the public release of Android 14. This year, we’re also looking at the November release of the new ColorOS version, as Google has confirmed that it will release Android 15 in October.

OnePlus and Oppo have already announced Android 15 beta testing, though it’s currently open for only a few devices, including OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open, and Oppo Find N3 and Find X7. ColorOS 15 Features (Expected)

Oppo is said to bring significant design changes to key areas in ColorOS 15. That’s not all; there’ll be a bunch of improvements and some new features as well. The upgrade will also bundle many features from Android 15.

Redesigned Lock Screen

The ColorOS 15 is said to have a revamped lock screen. It might feature an iOS-like depth effect. As per a leaked screenshot (see below), users can reposition the clock and choose from multiple clock fonts. They can also add widgets to the lock screen.

Redesigned Control Center

The leaked screenshot suggests that the ColorOS 15 might also get a redesigned Control Center with bigger Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles. The music player has been resized and positioned to the left.

New Icons and Wallpapers

Like every year, Oppo will redesign the default icons and introduce more wallpapers in ColorOS 15 to improve the user experience. The leaked screenshot below shows a new icon for the Gallery, Settings, and Camera app.

Improved Multitasking

The upcoming ColorOS version might also have multitasking improvements. Additionally, the upgrade may allow users to create shortcuts for their favourite pair of split-screen apps. This is an Android 15 feature that could be integrated into the next upgrade.

Theft Detection Lock

This is not a ColorOS 15-specific feature but an Android 15 feature to stop thieves from stealing your data.

The Theft Detection Lock feature uses Google’s AI to determine when your device has been snatched from your hands. If it detects this, the device will lock itself automatically, preventing thieves from stealing your data. The best part is that thieves won’t be able to activate the device until they have your Google account details.

Snatching/stealing Android phones and selling them off for some money is a common practice among thieves, but Android 15 reduces the incentive by making the device unusable without the correct Google account details.

Satellite Connectivity Support

Android 15 “extends platform support for satellite connectivity.” It provides support for SMS, MMS, and native RCS apps to use satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages.

The new OS adds some UI elements to ensure a consistent user experience. All Android 15 phones may not support satellite connectivity, as they will likely require special chip and carrier support.

More AI Features

Smartphone brands are competing to offer the best AI features. ColorOS 14 already has some AI features; we expect more of them in the upcoming ColorOS 15. Though not many details are out, the phones may get Gemini AI integration as a part of Android 15.

App Archiving

It’s an Android 15 feature that will allow users to uninstall unnecessary apps while keeping the user data around. It works similarly to offloading apps on iPhones. There won’t be any data loss; you can continue where you left off after reinstalling/unarchiving the app.

Android already has app archiving via the Google Play Store, allowing you to archive and restore apps. However, Android 15 integrates this feature at the OS level, allowing users to archive/restore apps, even those installed outside of the Google Play Store.

When Will Oppo Start Rolling Out Android 15 Update?

Android 15 is currently in the platform stability phase, which is the final development phase, where bugs and issues are resolved. However, the stable release is not too far from here.

The stable version of Android 15 will likely be released around October, as Google has been following the timeline as last year’s, so far.

The latest Google Pixels are usually the first phones to come with the new OS out of the box, and everyone expected the same this year with Android 15, but that didn’t happen. The recently-launched Pixel 9 series runs Android 14 instead of Android 15.

As soon as the stable build goes live, Google will start rolling it out to eligible Pixel models. Then, other Android brands will join the party after making adjustments to their custom skins (such as ColorOS), which can take a few days to weeks.

Last year, Oppo started rolling out the stable Android 14 update in November, and we’re expecting a similar timeline this year as well. If that seems like a long wait, you can join the Android 15 beta program to get early access to new features and other changes before the public. The beta program is currently live for Oppo Find N3, but it should expand to more devices in the coming weeks.

Oppo, like any other Android brand, hasn’t yet released a list of phones that will or won’t be upgraded to Android 15. Hence, this is an unofficial list that has been prepared based on the past rollouts.

Oppo’s software update policy promises four Android updates to their newer flagship phones, although older ones only get three. The Reno, F, and K-series models receive two OS updates.

The company’s budget A-series models typically get one Android update. However, select models will get two. Oppo hasn’t revealed those device names. Therefore, the above list doesn’t include any Oppo A-series phones launched with Android 13 out of the box. We’ll only learn about them once the official rollout timeline is out.

When Will Oppo Release Android 15

Just after Google unveiled Android 15 at the Google I/O developer conference in May, Oppo announced its participation in the beta testing. Oppo Find N3 is the company’s first phone to get Android 15 beta, allowing users to get an early taste of the upcoming OS.

If you frequently use apps in the split screen mode, you’ll love app pairs in Android 15. It lets you create a shortcut for your favourite split-screen combination to open them in a single click.

4. Satellite Connectivity Support

The OS provides support for SMS and MMS apps, as well as preloaded RCS apps, to use satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages. This means satellite messaging in Android 15 won’t be limited to emergency uses only. Also, Android 15 apps can detect when a device is connected to a satellite.

5. Partial Screen Sharing

If you screen share or do a screen recording, the video shows everything on your screen, including things you don’t want to show. This is not the final list of Oppo devices that’ll get the Android 15 upgrade, as the official list is yet to be released. However, we already know the software update policy for most devices, and hence, creating the list was not difficult.

Oppo has promised to release four Android upgrades to its flagship phones launched in 2023 and later. Those launched before 2023 will receive three Android upgrades.

The mid-range Oppo Reno, F, K, and Find Lite/Neo series phones are eligible for two major Android updates. Finally, some budget A-series phones will get two major OS updates, while most will only get one upgrade.

If your Oppo phone is not on the list, don’t worry. Wait for the official list, as Oppo might upgrade more devices to the newer OS, and then consider if you need to upgrade to a newer model.

When Will Oppo Start Rolling Out the Android 15 Update?

Android 15 is still through the development phase, with the stable release expected around October, the same as last year’s Android 14. Once the stable release is out, smartphone companies take additional time (usually a few weeks) to optimize their custom skins (ColorOS in the case of Oppo) to work with the new Android OS.

Thanks to the beta program, not every Oppo user must wait until the official release to explore new features and other changes. In fact, the Android 15 beta is already live for Oppo Find N3 and Find X7, offering users an early look at the new OS. The beta program will go live for more devices as the days go by. If you plan to install the beta release, please keep in mind that these beta builds will likely contain bugs and missing features.

Last year, Oppo started rolling out the stable Android 14 update to its eligible devices in November. We expect the Chinese brand to follow a similar timeline for the rollout of Android 15.

As always, flagship phones will be the first to get the new OS, followed by mid-range and budget phones.

Android 15: What to Expect?

Android 15 is unlikely to bring a significant UI redesign. Still, there’s much to be excited about. One of the biggest changes in the new OS is the satellite connectivity support. This feature lets you text your friends even if you don’t have cell towers nearby. Unlike Apple iPhones, the satellite connectivity feature on Android will not be limited to emergency uses only.

The new OS also improves Find My Phone to help you discover your lost phone and help others find their lost phones. All devices running Android 15 can ping each other via Bluetooth and contribute to the network.

Android 15 lets you save storage by uninstalling apps while keeping user data around. This is called App Archiving. The next time you install the archived app, you can continue where you left off without any data loss.

Another useful addition to the new OS is the partial screen-sharing feature. It lets you share or record a single app rather than the entire screen. Android 15 also brings the “Notification cooldown” feature that lowers the volume of successive notifications from the same app.
