Fluency Features

Two new features stand out in this update. BeaconLink lets you send texts, images, and voice messages to people nearby without using the internet. You can turn it on by going to Settings > Mobile Network > BeaconLink.

Split View has also been improved. It no longer forces fixed ratios, giving you full control over screen size when using two apps at once.

System and Notifications

System animations for opening, moving, and resizing floating windows are smoother. System stability has also been improved.

Notifications in landscape mode now show in a simpler banner to reduce interruptions. You can swipe down on a banner to open the app in a floating window. Tapping the banner opens the app in a floating window instead of switching to full screen.

Private Safe

The update adds several new functions to Private Safe:

Share images and videos.

Customize album covers.

Sort and view media by time.

Add files under the “Other files” category.

Add unlimited files in the Documents section, instead of the earlier 500 limit.

These changes work only on devices running OS version 14.0 and above.

Rollout Details

The update is being released in batches, so users may not receive it at the same time. The list of supported devices does not show priority order, and timing will vary by model.

At the launch event for its latest flagship devices, Oppo showcased the advancements of its ColorOS 15, claiming a new level of smoothness and performance. The company didn’t shy away from comparisons, making a bold statement by poking fun at Samsung’s One UI during the presentation.

Highlighting the smoothness of ColorOS 15

During the event, Oppo introduced their new “Luminous Rendering Engine” in ColorOS 15, which significantly enhances user interface responsiveness. The engine boasts an 18% improvement in touch response speed and a 40% boost in stability, ensuring seamless multitasking even under heavy workloads.

Demonstrating the feature on stage, Oppo illustrated how ColorOS 15 maintained fluidity while rapidly opening, closing, and switching apps, contrasting it with a competitor’s interface that appeared to falter. Though not named directly, Samsung‘s One UI was the clear target of this comparison.

The revamped ColorOS 15 also features a visual overhaul, with redesigned icons and widgets using natural tones to create a refreshed aesthetic. The new Flux Themes provide customizable layouts that harmonize the always-on display, lock screen, and home screen for a unified look. Oppo emphasized its commitment to delivering a more engaging user experience with every interaction.

Notably, Oppo is not the first to take a jab at a competitor. In fact, it seems to have drawn some inspiration from Samsung itself, which has mocked its biggest rival for years. Recently, Samsung attacked Apple for lack of innovation, showcasing some of its Galaxy AI features.

Speaking of AI features Oppo now has some of them as well. The AI Writer tool in ColorOS 15 simplifies message replies and summarizations, while the AI-enhanced Notes app helps users better organize information. These features underline Oppo’s focus on integrating AI for smarter and more intuitive user interactions.

What about the hardware?

The Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, are the first devices to launch with ColorOS 15. These flagship models deliver top-tier performance, with configurations of up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB storage in the Pro variant. The devices also include advanced cooling systems, combining high-performance graphite and a vapor chamber to maintain optimal temperatures during demanding tasks such as gaming.

Battery life is another highlight, with the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro featuring 5,630mAh and 5,910mAh batteries, respectively. Oppo also made a hardware comparison here with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which you can see below. Both the new Oppo phones also support 80W wired charging and 50W magnetic wireless charging. The addition of magnets, though, makes the Oppo flagships truly unique and stand out among other Android devices. You can learn more about the devices here.

Here’s a detailed look at some of the most evident iOS 18-inspired elements that have made their way into ColorOS 15.

Dynamic Island-Like Feature

The most noticeable feature in ColorOS 15 is the “Direct Fluid Cloud” bar, which expands from the punch-hole camera cutout to display notifications like timers, recordings, and other updates, essentially Oppo’s take on Apple’s Dynamic Island. This addition brings an interactive hub around the camera cutout, closely mimicking the way iOS 18 uses Dynamic Island to show relevant information in a seamless, fluid manner. This resemblance has led to mixed reactions, with some appreciating the convenience and others noting the similarities.

Redesigned Lock Screen and Personalization

ColorOS 15 introduces a customizable lock screen with 3D effects and dynamic wallpapers, closely resembling the one seen in iOS 18. Users can configure multiple lock screen setups, choose between different styles, and even overlay elements like images over the clock. These personalization options mirror iOS 18’s approach, allowing users to switch between different themes and wallpapers based on preferences or time of day.

Siri-Like “Super Xiaobu Assistant”

Another major element borrowed from iOS 18 is Oppo’s “Super Xiaobu Assistant,” which features a glowing border reminiscent of Apple’s updated Siri interface. The AI-powered assistant offers system-level interactions, handling commands, queries, and contextual information analysis in ways similar to Siri’s capabilities in iOS 18. While the integration of AI assistants in Android skins is not new, the resemblance to Apple’s assistant is noticeable.

AirDrop-Inspired File Sharing

ColorOS 15 brings an “AirDrop-like” feature that facilitates rapid sharing of files, photos, and videos with other devices, including iPhones. This addition makes it easy for Oppo users to share data with iOS devices using a single tap, similar to Apple’s proprietary AirDrop feature.

Split Notification Shade and Quick Settings

ColorOS 15 adopts a split layout for notifications and Quick Settings, a design that has been present in both iOS and Samsung’s One UI for some time. Oppo’s decision to separate these elements follows iOS’s pattern of decluttering the notification center and streamlining quick access to settings. The new layout in ColorOS 15 makes it easier to manage notifications and control settings.

Privacy Features

ColorOS 15 introduces enhanced privacy controls like Smart Clipboard Protection and Calendar Permission Control, which limit access to sensitive data. These measures echo iOS 18’s emphasis on privacy, with features like restricted clipboard access and event creation without full calendar visibility. Oppo’s privacy enhancements bring additional security to users’ data handling.

Inspiration or Imitation?

While Oppo’s ColorOS 15 brings genuine performance improvements, many of its new features clearly mirror iOS 18. Whether this represents a natural evolution of UI design or a deliberate effort to offer familiar features to users, the similarities are evident. As ColorOS 15 rolls out in November, users will get to experience whether Oppo’s design strategy enhances their experience or simply mimics iOS 18.

At the OPPO Developer Conference 2024, OPPO introduced ColorOS 15, based on Android 15, designed specifically for the Chinese market. This update focuses on improving ease of use, system performance, and customization options, offering a more balanced experience between design and functionality.

Simpler and Natural Design

ColorOS 15 introduces a new design described as “super light and more comfortable.” The updated interface emphasizes natural lighting and shadows to create a more personalized experience. This design is meant to be visually appealing yet easy to navigate, with a focus on subtle, practical improvements rather than bold changes.

Visual elements, such as motion effects and app transitions, have been refined to ensure smoother navigation and interactions. Whether using gestures or switching between apps, the system aims to provide a more fluid and responsive experience.

Performance and Gaming Enhancements

OPPO has made significant improvements to system performance with the new Lightning Engine, which increases system responsiveness by 18% and operational stability by 40%. This should result in faster load times and smoother multitasking.

For gaming, ColorOS 15 introduces a mode that delivers frame rates up to 116.7 FPS. This allows for smoother gameplay and video calls, with better stability during high-performance tasks.

Smarter Features for Everyday Use

One of the standout features in ColorOS 15 is Snap-and-Ask, which lets users take photos of objects or scenes and get real-time information through the camera. This makes it easier to find information quickly, without having to manually search.

The update also includes several AI-powered features. Virtual avatars can assist with tasks like language learning and storytelling, while AI Image Enhancement tools help improve photo quality by removing blur or unwanted reflections with just a tap.

Productivity and Privacy Improvements

For those looking to stay productive, the AI Office Suite introduces new tools for document management, such as format conversion and quick summaries. The AI Voice Summary feature can also capture and summarize key points from meetings or audio files, making it easier to keep track of important information.

ColorOS 15 also emphasizes privacy with enhanced encryption through its Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), which secures data transmission between the cloud and the device. Features like Smart Clipboard Protection and Calendar Write Permissions give users more control over their data, reducing unnecessary access to personal information.

Customization for a Personalized Experience

ColorOS 15 allows users to personalize their phones with dynamic themes that can be applied across the system, from the lock screen to the wallpaper. The redesigned Control Center also makes it easier to access important functions, such as Wi-Fi and media controls, with a single tap.

The system includes Dual App Split-Screen Mode, enabling users to run two apps at once. This feature makes multitasking more efficient, offering more flexibility when switching between apps.

File Management and Sharing

The update also enhances file sharing with OPPO Share, now compatible with iPhones. This allows users to transfer files, photos, and videos quickly between devices, even across platforms.

ColorOS 15 also introduces Automatic SMS Cleanup, which detects and removes expired verification codes from messages, helping users keep their inboxes organized.

Availability details

ColorOS 15 is scheduled to launch in China this November. The global release details will be announced in the near future.

Oppo and OnePlus are gearing up to unveil the ColorOS 15 and OxygenOS 15 soon. These are the brands’ latest generation of Android custom skins that are expected to bring new features, improvements, and much more. But in a recent leak, the first look of the OxygenOS 15 and ColorOS 15 was revealed. So why does it remind us of something we’ve already seen on iPhones?

ColorOS 15 & OxygenOS 15: Taking a Page from Apple’s Playbook?

In a recent SmartPrix report, the first look of both the ColorOS 15 and OxygenOS 15 custom skins were shared. These came from early beta testers in China. Looking at these images, we can see smooth new animations, blurring, a redesigned control panel, and a new Always on Display transition. There was even a Dynamic Island-like feature as well. If you haven’t picked it up yet, all of these seem directly inspired by the iOS on Apple iPhones.

Dynamic Island was first introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro series, and it is arriving on the next gen Oppo and OnePlus custom skins. You can apparently save up to 4 apps here and will likely be situated around the punch hole cutout on the phone’s display. We can even see it work with certain activities like order status, music, and more. Similarly, even the advanced blur feature on the notification shade and control panel is reminiscent of iOS as well.

But keeping all of these aside, there are plenty of new features and functions on the ColorOS 15 and OxygenOS 15. Animations are seeing an overhaul, allowing users to seamlessly switch between multiple apps. This should make the entire experience fluid. Lastly, the AOD Lock Screen Transition feature a new transition when moving from the Always On Display screen to the Lock Screen. The ColorOS 15 is set to launch on 21st October 2024, so stick around for more updates.

Speaking of the Find X8 series, DCS has speculated that Oppo may unveil it on Oct. 21. The Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Find X8 Pro Satellite Communication Version are expected to feature the upcoming Dimensity 9400 chipset.

DCS also confirmed that they will announce the Dimensity 9400 chip on October 9. The Vivo X200 and X200 Pro launching on Oct. 14 will be the world’s first phones to come equipped with the new chip.
Android 15 is still under development, so not even the latest Pixel 9 series runs it out of the box. Meanwhile, brands are already working on the next major upgrade for their custom skins, like ColorOS 15 for Oppo. Even the OnePlus phones sold in China run ColorOS.

ColorOS 15 (based on Android 15) is already under development. According to leaks, it will bring a major redesign to the lock screen and notification panel and a host of new features and improvements. There will also be new features and enhancements from Android 15.

There are plenty of new things to be excited about in the next major upgrade. But when will it start rolling out, and is your device eligible for it? Here’s everything you need to know about ColorOS 15.

ColorOS 15 Release Date

Neither OnePlus nor Oppo have made any announcement regarding the ColorOS 15 release. However, the companies will reportedly start recruiting people for the ColorOS 15 beta testing in the coming days.

Last year, Oppo released ColorOS 14 (based on Android 14) in November, a month after the public release of Android 14. This year, we’re also looking at the November release of the new ColorOS version, as Google has confirmed that it will release Android 15 in October.

OnePlus and Oppo have already announced Android 15 beta testing, though it’s currently open for only a few devices, including OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open, and Oppo Find N3 and Find X7. If you have any of these, sign up for the beta program (check out the steps here) and get an early taste of Android 15.

ColorOS 15 Eligible Devices

(Oppo devices)

Oppo Find X7

Oppo Find X7 Ultra

Oppo Find X6

Oppo Find X6 Pro

Oppo Find X5

Oppo Find X5 Pro

Oppo Find N3

Oppo Find N3 Flip

Oppo Find N2

Oppo Find N2 Flip

Oppo Reno 12

Oppo Reno 12 Pro

Oppo Reno 12F

Oppo Reno 12F 4G

Oppo Reno 11

Oppo Reno 11F

Oppo Reno 11 Pro

Oppo Reno 10

Oppo Reno 10 Pro

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+

Oppo Reno 9

Oppo Reno 9 Pro

Oppo Reno 9 Pro+

Oppo Reno 8T

Oppo Reno 8T 5G

Oppo K12

Oppo K12x

Oppo K11

Oppo K11x

Oppo F27

Oppo F27 Pro+

Oppo F25 Pro

Oppo F23

Oppo A3

Oppo A3 4G

Oppo A3x

Oppo A3x 4G

Oppo A3 Pro

Oppo A1 Pro

Oppo A79

Oppo A60

(OnePlus devices)

This is not the final list, as the brands have yet to release the list of Android 15-supported devices. We’ve prepared it by analyzing the software update policy and past track records.

The above list doesn’t include OnePlus devices that run OxygenOS, as we’re only talking about ColorOS here. You can check them out in our OxygenOS 15 article.

ColorOS 15 Features (Expected)

Oppo is said to bring significant design changes to key areas in ColorOS 15. That’s not all; there’ll be a bunch of improvements and some new features as well. The upgrade will also bundle many features from Android 15.

Redesigned Lock Screen

The ColorOS 15 is said to have a revamped lock screen. It might feature an iOS-like depth effect. As per a leaked screenshot (see below), users can reposition the clock and choose from multiple clock fonts. They can also add widgets to the lock screen.

Redesigned Control Center

The leaked screenshot suggests that the ColorOS 15 might also get a redesigned Control Center with bigger Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles. The music player has been resized and positioned to the left.

The leaked ColorOS 15 control center resembles the HyperOS skin in Xiaomi phones.

New Icons and Wallpapers

Like every year, Oppo will redesign the default icons and introduce more wallpapers in ColorOS 15 to improve the user experience. The leaked screenshot below shows a new icon for the Gallery, Settings, and Camera app.

Improved Multitasking

The upcoming ColorOS version might also have multitasking improvements. Additionally, the upgrade may allow users to create shortcuts for their favourite pair of split-screen apps. This is an Android 15 feature that could be integrated into the next upgrade.

Theft Detection Lock

This is not a ColorOS 15-specific feature but an Android 15 feature to stop thieves from stealing your data.

The Theft Detection Lock feature uses Google’s AI to determine when your device has been snatched from your hands. If it detects this, the device will lock itself automatically, preventing thieves from stealing your data. The best part is that thieves won’t be able to activate the device until they have your Google account details.

Snatching/stealing Android phones and selling them off for some money is a common practice among thieves, but Android 15 reduces the incentive by making the device unusable without the correct Google account details.

Satellite Connectivity Support

Android 15 “extends platform support for satellite connectivity.” It provides support for SMS, MMS, and native RCS apps to use satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages.

The new OS adds some UI elements to ensure a consistent user experience. All Android 15 phones may not support satellite connectivity, as they will likely require special chip and carrier support.

More AI Features

Smartphone brands are competing to offer the best AI features. ColorOS 14 already has some AI features; we expect more of them in the upcoming ColorOS 15. Though not many details are out, the phones may get Gemini AI integration as a part of Android 15.

App Archiving

It’s an Android 15 feature that will allow users to uninstall unnecessary apps while keeping the user data around. It works similarly to offloading apps on iPhones. There won’t be any data loss; you can continue where you left off after reinstalling/unarchiving the app.

Android already has app archiving via the Google Play Store, allowing you to archive and restore apps. However, Android 15 integrates this feature at the OS level, allowing users to archive/restore apps, even those installed outside of the Google Play Store.

Android 15 could be one of the most exciting upgrades in recent years. We already have access to beta builds that have revealed plenty of details about the exciting new features and enhancements, such as satellite connectivity, theft lock detection, private space, and more (we’ll talk about it later).

Everyone is waiting for Google to release the stable version of Android 15. Meanwhile, users want to ensure their device is eligible for the upgrade once the brand rolls it out. Check out the Oppo Android 15 eligible devices list if you haven’t already done so. Sadly, this will be the final Android upgrade for many devices.

Here, I will share with you a curated list of Oppo phones that will stop receiving OS updates after Android 15. This will help you determine when to upgrade your smartphone to continue enjoying the latest features and enhancements.

Oppo Phones That’ll Receive Android 15 as Their Final OS Upgrade

Oppo Find X5 Pro

Oppo Find X5

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+

Oppo Reno 10 Pro

Oppo Reno 10

Oppo Reno 9 Pro+

Oppo Reno 9 Pro

Oppo Reno 9

Oppo Reno 8T 5G

Oppo Reno 8T

Oppo F23

Oppo K11x

Oppo K11

Oppo A60

Oppo A3 Pro

Oppo A3x

Oppo A3

This is not an official list by any means. We have prepared it after analysing the device update policy and past rollouts. This list only includes devices that run the ColorOS skin, not those with Origin OS, which is exclusive to China.

When Will Oppo Start Rolling Out Android 15 Update?

Android 15 is currently in the platform stability phase, which is the final development phase, where bugs and issues are resolved. However, the stable release is not too far from here.

The stable version of Android 15 will likely be released around October, as Google has been following the timeline as last year’s, so far.

The latest Google Pixels are usually the first phones to come with the new OS out of the box, and everyone expected the same this year with Android 15, but that didn’t happen. The recently-launched Pixel 9 series runs Android 14 instead of Android 15.

As soon as the stable build goes live, Google will start rolling it out to eligible Pixel models. Then, other Android brands will join the party after making adjustments to their custom skins (such as ColorOS), which can take a few days to weeks.

Last year, Oppo started rolling out the stable Android 14 update in November, and we’re expecting a similar timeline this year as well. If that seems like a long wait, you can join the Android 15 beta program to get early access to new features and other changes before the public. The beta program is currently live for Oppo Find N3, but it should expand to more devices in the coming weeks.

What’s New in Android 15?

Here are the top features of Android 15:

1. Theft Detection Lock

Find My Device network has been a great addition to Android, letting you find your lost devices using a crowdsourced network of billions of Android devices. Google is making another big change to Android that will make the task more challenging for thieves.

Android 15 is confirmed to introduce a Theft Detection Lock. It uses Google’s AI to determine when your device has been snatched from your hands.

2. Satellite Connectivity

Android 15 “extends platform support for satellite connectivity.” It provides support for SMS, MMS, and native RCS apps to use satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages. The OS also adds some UI elements to ensure a consistent user experience.

All Android 15 phones may not support satellite connectivity as they will likely require special chip and carrier support.

3. App Archiving

Similar to offloading apps on iPhones, Android 15 will allow users to uninstall unnecessary apps while keeping the user data around. There won’t be any data loss; you can continue where you left off after reinstalling/unarchiving the app.

Android already has app archiving via the Google Play Store. It lets you archive and restore those apps via the Google Play Store. But, Android 15 integrates this feature at the OS level, allowing users to archive/restore apps, even those installed outside of the Google Play Store.

4. Private Space

Android introduces Private Space, which lets you store apps, photos, videos, documents, and other files you don’t want others to access. It uses a different Google account for improved protection, and obviously, you can set a different lock to access your Private Space.

Any files you download inside the private space won’t be visible to other users.

5. Split Apps Shortcuts

This new Android 15 feature lets you create shortcuts for split-screen apps. When you tap the icon, the apps will open in the split-screen mode, saving you a lot of time.

Which Oppo smartphone do you have? And what are the Android 15 features you’re excited about the most? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

ColorOS 15 Features (Rumored)

The upcoming OS is rumored to include several new features. According to reports, the OS will introduce a separate control center, redesigned floating windows, a custom lock screen, and GPU interpolation technology.

The update is also expected to include improved system animations and a new feature similar to Apple’s Live Photos, which records 1.5 seconds before and after a picture is taken.

The update is also expected to come with a Dynamic Island-like feature similar to Apple’s with enhanced customization and a more centralized design, potentially integrated with the camera module.

He added that the upcoming ColorOS version will also offer a separate control center alongside a redesigned floating window, custom lock screen, and other improvements.

Notably, ColorOS already has a dynamic island-like functionality that displays some key information. But the placement is not centered and it’s not integrated with the camera module. It is speculated that the one in ColorOS will be more similar to Apple’s implementation when it comes to appearance. Additionally, it seems like the feature will come with a number of customization options.

The addition of a separate control center means that OPPO will change the existing control center layout and adopt a separate design of the notification center and control center ., a separate control center means that OPPO will change the existing control center layout and adopt a separate design of notification center and control center.

According to previous reports, ColorOS 15 is expected to come with improved animation and GPU interpolation technology. The AirDrop-like feature will help users easily transfer files from iOS devices. However, they will need to install an app on the iOS device to use the feature.

According to Ma Xin, Director of User Experience and Solutions of OPPO ColorOS, it is expected that multiple models will get this feature with the next ColorOS 15 version for internal public testing. The models that are expected to get ColorOS 15 are listed below:

OPPO Find X7 Series

OPPO Find N3 Series

OPPO Find X6 Series

OPPO Reno11 Series

OPPO Reno 10 Series

OnePlus 12

OnePlus 11

OnePlus Ace 3

OnePlus Ace 3V

OnePlus Ace 2 Pro

OnePlus Ace 2

OnePlus Ace 2V

Reputed tipster Digital Chat Station today revealed some information about the upcoming ColorOS 15. According to him, the update will offer improved system animations.

ColorOS 15 could offer another feature similar to Apple’s Live Photos

The update will also reportedly bring a feature similar to Apple‘s Live Photos. For those unfamiliar, the feature in iPhone allows users to record what happens 1.5 seconds before and 1.5 seconds after taking a picture. This could be really helpful when capturing a fast-moving subject like a bird flying in the sky.

The tipster also noted in a separate Weibo post that devices with ColorOS 15 will get the ability to transfer files with Apple devices through a feature similar to AirDrop. AirDrop is a feature developed by Apple that allows its users to wirelessly send photos, videos, documents, and more easily to other Apple devices. However, to use this connectivity feature of ColorOS 15, users will need to install an app on their Apple devices. Unfortunately, we currently don’t have more information about the app.

But which models will get the feature first? Well, Ma Xin, Director of User Experience and Solutions for OPPO ColorOS, previously revealed some information about the feature. According to him, multiple models may get this feature with the next ColorOS 15 update for internal public testing. You can check out the list of devices eligible for the AirDrop-like feature below.

OPPO Find X7 Series

OPPO Find N3 Series

OPPO Find X6 Series

OPPO Reno11 Series

OPPO Reno 10 Series

OnePlus 12

OnePlus 11

OnePlus Ace 3

OnePlus Ace 3V

OnePlus Ace 2 Pro

OnePlus Ace 2

OnePlus Ace 2V

Android 15 is in its final phase of development. Last month, the upcoming OS reached platform stability with the beta 3 release. Just recently, the beta 3.1 build went live, fixing some issues related to the lock screen and face authentication.

Oppo has been offering a beta program to allow their users to install early builds of the OS ahead of the stable release, and this year was no different. This time, Oppo Find N3 has been selected for the Android 15 beta, though the beta program will expand to more devices in the coming weeks.

Android 15 is an exciting upgrade, but many Oppo devices are ineligible for it. Review the list below to find out if you’ll need to upgrade to a newer model to enjoy the latest features and enhancements.

These Oppo Phones Are Not Eligible for Android 15 Update

[Oppo Find series]

Oppo Find X5 Lite

Oppo Find N

Oppo Find X3

Oppo Find X3 Pro

Oppo Find X3 Neo

Oppo Find X3 Lite

And older Find models

[Oppo Reno series]

Oppo Reno 8

Oppo Reno 8 4G

Oppo Reno 8 Z

Oppo Reno 8 Lite

Oppo Reno 8 Pro

Oppo Reno 8 Pro+

Oppo Reno 7

Oppo Reno 7 5G

Oppo Reno 7 Lite

Oppo Reno 7 Z 5G

Oppo Reno 7 Pro

Oppo Reno 7 SE 5G

And older Reno models

[Oppo K series]

Oppo K10

Oppo K10 5G

Oppo K10x

Oppo K10 Pro

And older K models

[Oppo F series]

Oppo F21 Pro

Oppo F21 Pro 5G

And older F models

[Oppo A series]

Oppo A78

Oppo A77s

Oppo A58x

Oppo A56

Oppo A17

Oppo A17k

Oppo A1

Oppo A1x

Oppo A1 Pro

And those launched with Android 12 or before

Oppo, like any other Android brand, hasn’t yet released a list of phones that will or won’t be upgraded to Android 15. Hence, this is an unofficial list that has been prepared based on the past rollouts.

Oppo’s software update policy promises four Android updates to their newer flagship phones, although older ones only get three. The Reno, F, and K-series models receive two OS updates.

The company’s budget A-series models typically get one Android update. However, select models will get two. Oppo hasn’t revealed those device names. Therefore, the above list doesn’t include any Oppo A-series phones launched with Android 13 out of the box. We’ll only learn about them once the official rollout timeline is out.

When Will Oppo Release Android 15

Just after Google unveiled Android 15 at the Google I/O developer conference in May, Oppo announced its participation in the beta testing. Oppo Find N3 is the company’s first phone to get Android 15 beta, allowing users to get an early taste of the upcoming OS.

The Android 15 beta should expand to more Oppo phones in the coming weeks. But when is the stable build coming?

Android 15 is in its final stage of development as it has already entered the platform stability phase. It might get a stable release anytime soon.

The upcoming Pixel 9 series is expected to be the first to come with Android 15 out of the box. Interestingly, Google has scheduled the “Made by Google” event for August 13, where the Pixel 9 series will be announced. This means Android 15 could be released in August. Usually, a new Android OS is released around September or October.

Google Pixels are the first to receive new OS updates, and then other smartphone brands, including Oppo, gradually roll it out to their eligible devices.

Android 15: What’s Exciting About This Upgrade

Every Android version is called a major upgrade, but Android 15 is a major one in real terms. It brings some critical new features and enhancements that will make you eagerly wait for it.

1. Theft Detection Lock

If someone snatches your phone and runs away with it, the device senses that motion and immediately locks the screen, preventing bad uses of your device.

The device will lock itself even if it detects suspicious activities like constant attempts to disconnect the phone or multiple failed login attempts. The best thing is that the other person will have to use the same Google account to set up the device after a factory reset. Otherwise, the device will be useless.

2. Private Space

Android 15 has a private space feature to protect apps and files you don’t want others to access. It uses a separate user profile and lets you set up a different lock factor for better security.

Everything you do in the private space will be invisible to the other space. Even the apps won’t show in the recent apps section. And all your downloads in the private space remain there.

3. App Pairs

If you frequently use apps in the split screen mode, you’ll love app pairs in Android 15. It lets you create a shortcut for your favourite split-screen combination to open them in a single click.

4. Satellite Connectivity Support

Android 15 “extends platform support for satellite connectivity.” It adds some UI elements to ensure a consistent user experience.

The OS provides support for SMS and MMS apps, as well as preloaded RCS apps, to use satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages. This means satellite messaging in Android 15 won’t be limited to emergency uses only. Also, Android 15 apps can detect when a device is connected to a satellite.

5. Partial Screen Sharing

If you screen share or do a screen recording, the video shows everything on your screen, including things you don’t want to show. Android 15 takes it to the next step by introducing partial screen sharing. With this feature, you’ll be able to screen share or record a single app rather than the entire screen.

We are still months away from the Android 15 release, but that does not limit the excitement among Android enthusiasts for the new OS. Unlike the last two iterations — Android 13 and Android 14 — the upcoming Android 15 operating system has plenty of exciting features and improvements to offer, making us eagerly wait for the official release.

While you wait for the official release, it’s important to ensure that your Oppo smartphone is eligible for the Android 15 upgrade so that you can enjoy the latest features and enhancements when the update rolls out for your device.

Oppo Phones Eligible for Android 15 (ColorOS 15) Update

[Oppo Find series]

Oppo Find X7

Oppo Find X7 Ultra

Oppo Find X6

Oppo Find X6 Pro

Oppo Find X5

Oppo Find X5 Pro

Oppo Find N3

Oppo Find N3 Flip

Oppo Find N2

Oppo Find N2 Flip

[Oppo Reno series]

Oppo Reno 12

Oppo Reno 12 Pro

Oppo Reno 11

Oppo Reno 11F

Oppo Reno 11 Pro

Oppo Reno 10

Oppo Reno 10 Pro

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+

Oppo Reno 9

Oppo Reno 9 Pro

Oppo Reno 9 Pro+

Oppo Reno 8T

Oppo Reno 8T 5G

[Oppo K series]

Oppo K12

Oppo K12x

Oppo K11

Oppo K11x

[Oppo F series]

Oppo F25 Pro

Oppo F23

[Oppo A series]

Oppo A3 Pro

Oppo A1 Pro

Oppo A79

Oppo A60

This is not the final list of Oppo devices that’ll get the Android 15 upgrade, as the official list is yet to be released. However, we already know the software update policy for most devices, and hence, creating the list was not difficult.

Oppo has promised to release four Android upgrades to its flagship phones launched in 2023 and later. Those launched before 2023 will receive three Android upgrades.

The mid-range Oppo Reno, F, K, and Find Lite/Neo series phones are eligible for two major Android updates. Finally, some budget A-series phones will get two major OS updates, while most will only get one upgrade.

If your Oppo phone is not on the list, don’t worry. Wait for the official list, as Oppo might upgrade more devices to the newer OS, and then consider if you need to upgrade to a newer model.

When Will Oppo Start Rolling Out the Android 15 Update?

Android 15 is still through the development phase, with the stable release expected around October, the same as last year’s Android 14. Once the stable release is out, smartphone companies take additional time (usually a few weeks) to optimize their custom skins (ColorOS in the case of Oppo) to work with the new Android OS.

Thanks to the beta program, not every Oppo user must wait until the official release to explore new features and other changes. In fact, the Android 15 beta is already live for Oppo Find N3 and Find X7, offering users an early look at the new OS. The beta program will go live for more devices as the days go by. If you plan to install the beta release, please keep in mind that these beta builds will likely contain bugs and missing features.

Last year, Oppo started rolling out the stable Android 14 update to its eligible devices in November. We expect the Chinese brand to follow a similar timeline for the rollout of Android 15.

As always, flagship phones will be the first to get the new OS, followed by mid-range and budget phones.

Also Read: How to Install Android 15 Beta on Oppo Phones

Android 15: What to Expect?

Android 15 is unlikely to bring a significant UI redesign. Still, there’s much to be excited about. One of the biggest changes in the new OS is the satellite connectivity support. This feature lets you text your friends even if you don’t have cell towers nearby. Unlike Apple iPhones, the satellite connectivity feature on Android will not be limited to emergency uses only.

The new OS also improves Find My Phone to help you discover your lost phone and help others find their lost phones. All devices running Android 15 can ping each other via Bluetooth and contribute to the network.

Android 15 lets you save storage by uninstalling apps while keeping user data around. This is called App Archiving. The next time you install the archived app, you can continue where you left off without any data loss.

Another useful addition to the new OS is the partial screen-sharing feature. It lets you share or record a single app rather than the entire screen. Android 15 also brings the “Notification cooldown” feature that lowers the volume of successive notifications from the same app.

Which Oppo device do you have? And what features do you want to see in the new OS? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
