The iPhone 15 series is about to be launched, and because of this, news about Apple’s much-awaited smartphone lineup is everywhere. We previously discussed Apple’s search for a ‘Bezel-less’ iPhone and the possible delay of the iPhone 15 series. Particularly, the delay news was a bit disappointing for users. However, recent information suggests that everything is going well for the company. Apple has apparently fixed the initial production problems with the displays for the iPhone 15 lineup, and for now, there’s no delay in sight. Here are the details…

Apple’s iPhone 15 Display Problems a Thing of the Past, New Models on Track for Release

Apple is a company that strongly adheres to its traditions. For this reason, it’s usually not too hard to predict what they’re going to do each year. However, the company sometimes manages to surprise everyone. For example, until recently, the standard iPhone and Pro series were identical to each other, apart from camera and size. But recently, the tech giant distinguished the two series in terms of both processor and design.

Therefore, while the iPhone 14 was introduced with a design featuring a notch, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max went on sale with the Dynamic Island feature. This situation confused many users and felt like two different generations of phones. Fortunately, Apple didn’t insist on this approach and, according to recent information, will use the Dynamic Island feature in all models this year. However, this has also brought about different problems.

In March 2023, there were news reports that Apple was having problems making the screens for the soon-to-be-released iPhone 15 series. This situation was especially concerning for people who were thinking about buying a new phone but were waiting for the release of the iPhone 15 series. Thankfully, these issues did not last long. Apple was said to have fixed the early screen production problems for the iPhone 15 series. As you may know, the company works with competitors like Samsung and LG for production.

According to reports, the manufacturer facing the problem was LG Display. The company was specifically having difficulties with creating the holes for the selfie camera and the Face ID. After cutting these parts on the OLED screens, a some kind a dark spots would form. Those who have used OLED phones before and experienced unfortunate accidents know that these spots can grow and, in a short time, you may not see anything on the screen. Luckily, this problem has been solved. In summary, LG created an isolated area where the cutting process would take place, and the damaged spot from the cut did not spread to the entire screen. This is great news, isn’t it? Well, not exactly.

Unfortunately, there was another special reason why Apple didn’t make changes every year, and that was cost. However, the company will include the Dynamic Island feature in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models to maintain its premium feel, and it will also use a USB-C port instead of Lightning in its phones to avoid issues with the European Union. This means that costs are going to significantly increase. If the claims are correct, the company will raise prices by at least $100 for its new models.

Apple iPhone 15’s display see production issues over its new Dynamic Island

The Apple iPhone 15 series is set to launch later this year. However, it appears that the company is apparently facing issues with display production for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models, which is due to the new Dynamic Island feature.

For those unaware, one of the biggest design changes is the addition of the Dynamic Island on the display that will now be featured across the lineup and not just the higher end Pro models. Although, there will still be certain differences in the display. The iPhone 15 Pro models will retain the latest LTPO OLED display, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will feature the more cheaper LTPS panels, which features the Dynamic Island cutout.

According to a new report, BOE, one of the suppliers of the Cupertino based giant, is facing issues in piercing the Dynamic Island cutout on its display panels. These screens will be featured on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Thus, Apple has made to make changes in its display production plans. The iPhone maker is shifting the mass production display plans for the cheaper iPhone 15 models to May and is asking Samsung to make them.

Notably, this schedule is a month earlier than the original June 2023 production timeline. Apple is likely shifting production to also give Samsung time to focus on the mass production of the higher end display panels that will be featured on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra models.

Huawei is Working on a Dynamic Island Feature Similar to Apple

The iPhone 14 series was introduced last September. Apple, which usually releases phones with a similar design every year, made a significant change and eliminated the notch in its Pro models. It was replaced by the ‘Dynamic Island‘, which houses the front camera and Face ID sensors. This change, made by the company, was well received by users, and other manufacturers started to work on similar devices. Huawei was the first to take the step for the ‘Dynamic Island’. Huawei to launch its own Dynamic Island feature

Similar to the iPhone 14 lineup, the Huawei Nova 11 series will adopt a new pill shape cutout screen and it is the first time to equip in a Huawei smartphone. The Chinese tech giant has been employing various punch-hole techniques for a long time.

The most popular of these is the single hole or pill-shaped camera placement in the top left corner of the screen. However, for the first time, Huawei will position its cameras in the middle, similar to Apple’s ‘Dynamic Island‘.

Huawei Nova 11 series will bring out the XMAGE camera system and it’s likely that the company will get you a better photography user experience. The Dynamic Island feature in question is expected to offer similar functionality to Apple.

Unfortunately, for now, we do not have any information other than the design of the phone. It is possible to say that it will come with HarmonyOS just like other current Huawei models. However, we will continue to inform you when there is a development on the subject.

Apple’s Dynamic Island copycat Android app hits over 1 million downloads

The DynamicSpot app is an Android app that offers a Dynamic Island akin to what obtains in the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Dynamic Island is a new multi-tasking and shape-shifting notification system that replaces the traditional notch. The DynamicSpot app replicates the Dynamic Island functionality in Android smartphones and has now achieved over 1 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

While there had been speculation that Apple could unveil Dynamic Island with its iPhone 14 series, this was not definitive. However, Apple indeed featured the Dynamic Island in the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Some OEMs like Xiaomi, are reportedly working on a Dynamic Island-like feature on Android smartphones. The DynamicSpot had been on the radar silently for a while but its blossoming has coincided with the launch of the iPhone 14 lineup. It is available on the Google Play Store and is compatible with both left-centered and center punch hole camera smartphones. It also features Android music controls and is referenced in the Play Store as the Dynamic Island for Android.

The DynamicSpot app was released on September 29 and this feat of 1 million downloads in a few days is quite impressive. The current rating by users who downloaded the app is 4.3 which is a decent performance. According to the app developer Jawomo, the DynamicSpot replicates the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island feature on your Android device.

The mini multitasking feature of DynamicSpot allows Android users to access recent notifications or phone status changes. The developer further says that, unlike Dynamic Island, DynamicSpot is customizable, as you can change interaction settings and tweak a few more features. The app is compatible with most Android apps and will integrate seamlessly into Android’s notification system.

The DynamicSpot requires Android 9 or higher and the developer says more features will be incorporated into the app in due course.

Xiaomi Civi 2 Full Review: Designed only for users who love take selfies

The phone I got in my hand is the Xiaomi Civi 2. Civi series is a new series specially designed by Xiaomi for female users. Theoretically, the second generation should be better than the first, but it seems that this is not the case.

Design

Let’s start with the appearance, still light and thin body, although heavier than the previous generation, but you can hardly feel the difference between them. Of the four colors, I recommend this white the most, because the blue is too cheap, black is too ordinary, pink and last year’s one is similar, only the white is the most special.

Not only does it look wave-like, it is also bumpy to the touch. They say the inspiration comes from Hello Kitty, whatever, it’s quite comfortable to touch. The camera module design seems to have been seen somewhere, but it’s quite nice. Compared to the first gen, the biggest step back in the design of Civi 2 is the frame, from metal to plastic, which makes it look and feel cheaper than Civi 1.

Front Camera

Since it is a phone designed for females, it is certainly important to see how good it is at taking selfies. This time, Civi 2 not only keeps the 32MP autofocus front main camera of the first gen, but also has a 32MP ultra-wide angle front camera, this one without autofocus. They are also flanked by two Dual-tone LED flashes.

When you just need to take a selfie alone, then the front main camera performs just as well as its previous model, with autofocus allowing every detail of your face to show up perfectly in the photo. Civi 2 still retains two beauty effects, one that retains a certain amount of skin texture, and another that makes your skin extra smooth and white. The ultra-wide camera has not changed much except for the wide field of view, so we won’t repeat it again. The flash this time is a cold and warm flash, so you can choose to take a cold or warm selfie depending on your mood at that time.

The ultra-wide camera means you can shoot vlogs more easily with the front camera, and with this teleprompter feature, you can make great vlogs with the Civi 2 in most cases. this footage is what I recorded with the Civi 2, and I think it’s pretty good for recording life. But unfortunately, the front camera still does not support 4K resolution recording, nor does it support switching lenses during recording. The background bokeh algorithm is not particularly good, and the keying problem is particularly obvious. In the outdoors, when there is enough light always ensure that the face exposure is normal, which is great. But after all, the sensor size of the front camera is too small, once the light is not enough the image will be very noisy. So try to choose a bright place when recording video with the front camera.

Rear camera

The rear camera has been upgraded a lot, with the IMX 766 and the new 20MP ultra-wide camera already beating many phones in its price range. The main camera is our old friend, performing basically the same as the Xiaomi 12 and getting an excellent photos most of the time. With no OIS, your hand needs to be steady on the phone at night, or you’ll get a blurry photo.

The ultra-wide camera has not only gotten more pixels, but the new algorithm has made it very high contrast. I really like the sense of atmosphere, especially in the night scenes. It doesn’t look very bright like other phones. It makes night scenes look more like they were taken at night. There is no doubt that the Civi 2 is better than most other budget phones with ultra-wide cameras.

Benchmark & Gaming

So, if you are only concerned about the design and photo users, as you can see, it is worth buying. But if you also care about other parts, then it may have to let you down. Let’s talk about performance first. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which uses Samsung’s 4nm process, has weak performance.

As with the previous generation, don’t expect much from its gaming performance, running PUBG smoothly is its limit. Genshin Impact’s test we only ran on the grass in Mondstadt, and even with just medium graphics, the processor couldn’t hold out anymore. The temperature is not too high, and the frame rate is not too high. Simply put, for the same price you can buy a phone with much better performance than it, think about whether you can accept its gaming performance before you buy it.

Display

The screen is also an average one, with a 120Hz FHD+ screen, which is about the same level for everyone at this price point. The most noteworthy is the Android version of the “Dynamic Island”. Although it is the first dual-punch-hole screen since the launch of the iPhone 14 series, I don’t think the Civi 2 is a copy of the iPhone 14 Pro. Because it was a very long process from design to production, Xiaomi didn’t design any interaction design or animation for this area. The flash on both sides also didn’t allow it to put the punch-hole on the side, so it’s probably just a coincidence.

Battery & Charging

The battery is 4500mAh like Civi 1, and the battery life is as shown in the picture, which is average. Charging power is increased to 67w, 10 minutes to charge 32%, half an hour to charge 83%, and 42 minutes to fully charge, this speed is still very satisfactory. However, one thing that is less satisfying that the speakers have changed from stereo dual speakers to single speaker. This is a huge step backward I think. I have made a table where you can clearly see where the Civi 2 has improved and regressed. So whether it’s worth recommending this phone depends on whether you can accept its shortcomings. Redmi K60 may feature new Dynamic Island-like of notification system

With the launch of the iPhone 14 series, Apple finally brought a major change in design for its Pro series models with the new Dynamic Island notification system. But it appears that other smartphone brands might be quick to adopt a similar feature, and Redmi could be one of the first.

For those unaware, Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro series features a cutout for its Face ID tech and selfie camera. However, this also serves an additional purpose as it enables the Dynamic Island, which is also optimized to work with various apps for notifications and other input functionalities. Now, it seems like developers for Xiaomi’s MIUI are already working on introducing such a feature for the upcoming Redmi K60.

Notably, the hint arrives following a question asked by Xiaomi President Lu Weibing who said that if we “really need a Smart Island” feature on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). On the social media platform, a number of users responded positively for the implementation of the Dynamic Island like feature. Meanwhile, MIUI developers have already started working on such a new notification system that will allow for music controls and other notifications.

In other words, we can also safely assume that other developers for the platform could also begin work on such a feature as well. Although, keep in mind that this is still an unconfirmed report and the Redmi K60 is not officially stated to feature a Dynamic Island like notification system. So take this news with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates.

Apple iPhone 15 series regular models to reportedly get Dynamic Island feature

Apple recently launched the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro lineup of next-generation smartphones from the brand. The highlight of the smartphone is the new Dynamic Island, the replaces the notch on top of the screen in the Pro models.

For this generation of phones, the Dynamic Island feature is limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Now, it is being claimed that all the models of iPhone next year will come with the Dynamic Island feature.

Ross Young says that he expects the Dynamic Island feature to be available on the standard iPhone 14 models next year. He adds that he is still not expecting the regular models to have an LTPO display.

If the report is to be believed, then the standard Apple iPhone 15 will have support for the Dynamic Island feature, but there won’t be support for the ProMotion display and an always-on display option, which will be limited to the Pro models.

Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped cutout area surrounding the Face ID sensors and front camera on the iPhone 14 Pro models. It is an interactive area that can display system alerts like incoming phone calls, and it will also work with Live Activities in third-party apps when iOS 16.1 gets released.

The new feature is tempting enough for the owners of the previous generation iPhones to consider buying the new models, which otherwise isn’t worth upgrading if the phone isn’t too old. If there are not many who plan to upgrade, then it affects Apple’s bottom line.

MIUI theme developer creates Dynamic Island-style feature for Xiaomi phones

One of the features of the recently released Apple iPhone 14 is the Dynamic Island theme. The new theme has now found its way into a Xiaomi smartphone, thanks to some outstanding developers. This is the first time we’re seeing something like this although Xiaomi is yet to approve the change.

The Dynamic Island theme on the iPhone 14 essentially camouflages the pill-shaped camera housing. It provides information on notifications, calls, timers, Bluetooth pairing, and others. The Mi Theme developer successfully implemented the Android version of Dynamic Island. A short video detailing the operation of Dynamic Island on the Android smartphone was also released. The Android version of the Apple Theme is called Grumpy UI and is available only in the Chinese version yet. It also contains a “Now playing” section in the MIUI software. The video shows that the theme was able to hide the pinhole selfie camera in the corner when the island is expanded.

Although Xiaomi is silent so far on the new feature, the theme developers say the update is still under review. The Grumpy UI, if approved will be on the MIUI Themes store. Although the utility of a pill-shaped camera theme covering is not very common with Android devices, it will be interesting to see whether Xiaomi will approve the feature. Few Android smartphones come with pill-shaped notches, but the Dynamic Island-styled Android Theme could be available someday. We’ll see whether Xiaomi will tap into the feature.

Apple has unveiled the latest iPhone 14 series comprising the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Pro models stand out most among the four models. That is because both handsets have a new pill-shaped cutout that replaces the notch and can adjust dynamically. Both devices include a speedier A16 Bionic chip as well as an always-on display. Let’s take a look at the specs, design, and pricing of the new iPhone 14 models.

iPhone 14 Pro

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus retain much of the design of the iPhone 13 – including the previous-generation A15 Bionic CPU. Apple skipped the Mini version this year meaning buyers will have to choose between the 14 and 14 Plus whose displays are really not compact. The iPhone 14 models won’t feature the conventional SIM tray in the US but will have support for eSIM.

DISPLAY

In terms of the display, the iPhone 14 packs a 6.1-inch screen, while the 14 Plus has a larger 6.7-inch screen. Both models retain last year’s A15 Bionic chipset, which is a significant departure for Apple, which has traditionally unveiled a new processor for use throughout its entire iPhone portfolio every year.

Both models enable Emergency SOS, the much-rumored emergency messaging service delivered via communication satellites while you’re out of cell signal range. The antennas on the phone can link to satellite frequencies. Apple claims that sending a message with a clear view of the sky can take less than 15 seconds, and the interface assists users to position their phones in the appropriate direction and talks them through the processes to connect with emergency service providers. You can also use the Find My app to communicate your location without sending a message. It is free for the first two years for the iPhone 14 models.

CAMERA – iPhone 14 & 14 Plus

For selfies, the iPhone 14 models pack an ultrawide and a new 12-megapixel main camera with an f/1.5 aperture and sensor-based stabilization. Apple says the image quality in low light has improved by 49%, and Night Mode is now twice as quick. A new 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera with front focusing is also available. Apple claims to be implementing its “Photonic Engine” technology, which improves color rendering and low-light performance, sooner in the image pipeline. Action Option, a new stabilization mode for video recording, makes use of the entire sensor to provide gimbal-like steadiness.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are the “most creative pro range yet.”

DISPLAY – iPhone 14 Pro & 14 Pro Max

The display is the first noticeable design change with the iPhone 14 Pro versions. While Apple will provide the standard 6.1- and 6.7-inch screen sizes, the notch will be replaced by a pill-shaped cutout for the Face ID components and a second circular cutout for the front-facing camera.

Apple has relocated the proximity sensor behind the display, and notifications will now be animatedly shown in the notch. Apple refers to this mechanism as Dynamic Island. Notifications and alerts will adapt and move around the pill-shaped notch, and Apple is putting a lot of emphasis on how it animates and uses the system for new notifications.

Apple showcased how the Dynamic Island will animate and function in practice, featuring live activity widgets springing to life and music animations and controls. Background chores like music listening will be moved to the island when you swipe to go home.

The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will both have an always-on display that will operate with iOS 16’s new lock screen widget feature. It will enable information such as reminders, calendar events, and weather without requiring the iPhone to wake up in order to display it. There’s also a sleep mode for iOS 16 wallpapers that darken them to save battery life.

PROCESSOR

Apple’s A16 Bionic chip powers the iPhone 14 Pro variants. With its new CPU, Apple has prioritized battery efficiency, display, and camera. The six-core CPU has two high-performance cores that utilize 20% less power and four efficiency cores that use a third of the power of competitors’ CPUs.

This new A16 chip powers the Dynamic Island’s silky animations and will also power Apple’s new camera system.

iPhone 14 Pro

CAMERA

Speaking of the camera, for the first time, the iPhone will use a 48-megapixel sensor instead of a 12-megapixel sensor. The redesigned main camera improves low-light shooting with a quad-pixel sensor, f/1.78 aperture, and 24mm focal length.

To maximize light collection, the sensor will take 12-megapixel binned pictures for most shots. This also enables Apple to crop the sensor in various ways to provide genuine 2x zoom at a focal length of 48mm. This could produce some stunning images, and the new sensor even optimizes details in Apple’s ProRAW format.

The new ultrawide camera also improves macrophotography and provides a 3x boost in low light. Apple has also improved the flash on the iPhone 14 camera system, making it twice as bright and responsive to photo focal length. The cinematic mode now supports 4K resolution at 30fps and 4K resolution at 24fps.

Overall, the iPhone 14 Pro delivers far more than last year’s minor updates to the iPhone 13 Pro models, which included a 120Hz ProMotion high refresh rate display and three all-new cameras. On the Android front, Samsung has the Galaxy Fold 4, which merges a tablet and phone experience into a single device, as well as the Galaxy Flip 4, which folds in half.

PRICING & AVAILABILITY – iPhone 14 series

The base iPhone 14 model costs $799, while the 14 Plus costs $899. Preorders will begin on September 9th, with the normal 14 shipping on September 16th and the 14 Plus following on October 7th.

The iPhone 14 Pro will cost $999, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max will cost $1,099. Both will be available for preorder on September 9th, with in-store availability on September 16th.
