It has been nearly a decade since the last Windows phone was released. But a DIY hardware mod has unofficially revived the Lumia phone. A bizarre project has managed to build an iPhone into the chassis of a classic Windows Lumia phone. So let’s check it out.

Lumia 1020 reimagined with an iPhone SE 3 Mod

The project was undertaken by a Redditor who shared images of his jerry rigged ‘Windows iPhone’ on the r/hackintosh subreddit. Keep in mind that this is just a hardware mod, so the iPhone SE 2022 isn’t running on the Windows Mobile operating system. So if you were curious to see what an iOS running Windows Phone looks like, this is your best bet. The fusion includes the iconic design of the Nokia Lumia 1020 with a modern iPhone.

As crazy as it sounds, the Frankenstein device is fully functioning, which means you can use the 12MP camera on the rear, get access to Touch ID (but it has been moved to the back), and get the Taptic engine. But that’s not all, 5G is fully functioning as well as a SIM card tray, and flash module. There is also the dated Lightning port, but this is technically an upgrade considering how the old Lumia phone offered the older micro USB.

This is a pretty impressive hardware mod that brings all of the functionality of the iPhone, but even managed to include a way to use the Lumia 1020’s camera shutter button. In the post, the person basically made the shutter button as a second volume down button to allow for similar functionality. But there is always a catch and that is the loss of the headphone jack. This project arrives as Apple discontinued the iPhone SE model, so you can even look at this as two discontinued models joining hands for a new life.

The battery life is the weakest point of the Apple iPhone SE because it has a very small battery: it still provides a sufficient battery life, but there is no chance for it to compete with the Google Pixel 6a and its 4410 mAh battery. The capacity of the iPhone is just 2018 mAh and, even though the phone comes with a small display and efficient components, it is still far from other modern flagships in terms of battery life. On the other hand, it is the only one to support wireless charging (but no MagSafe).

Price

The starting price of the iPhone SE 2022 for the global market is €500 or $380, while you need €450 or $450 to purchase the Google Pixel 6a. There is no definitive winner for this comparison but each of these devices has its pro and cons. As mentioned above, the iPhone SE 2022 has a better build quality thanks to its glass back protected by Ceramic Shield, but it also comes with a very outdated design which makes the Pixel 6a more attractive. Although Apple’s latest iPhone 13 series is widely regarded as a solid flagship for the price, the phone still has several compromises for its price, such as its legacy Lightning port, the absence of Touch ID, the missing 3.5mm headphone jack and its hideous notch in the middle of the display. 

But as people say “If you want a thing, you gotta do it yourself”, and this Chinese DIY Electronics Youtuber, Aio Technology, has taken the motto to the next level, as he has created himself the fully-functioning “New iPhone” that has a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a pop-up selfie camera, Touch ID and most importantly of all, no notch!

What makes this achievement more astounding is that the “New iPhone” that he had created features the same Apple A15 Bionic SoC with 5G connectivity found on the iPhone 13 series, so you are not sacrificing performance at all when using the device.

Let’s start with how he made this iPhone. The creator said that to make this “New iPhone”, he had to buy the latest generation of the iPhone SE (2022) which was equipped with the 4.7-inch display and 5G processor that he needed for this project. Indirectly, the iPhone SE 3rd Generation featured the Apple A15 Bionic processor paired with the 4GB RAM, which allowed the device to easily power through daily tasks with no stutters at all.

As for the design of this “New iPhone”, to fully make use of the screen, the creator made a rectangular aluminium casing with minimal bezels for the LCD display panel to fit in. In pursuit of the truly bezel-less iPhone, the “New iPhone” features a flat-screen non-curved display that has top, left and right side bezels almost as thin as 1mm.

However, he didn’t stop there, he wanted this “New iPhone” project to go even further. Since there was no more space left on the home screen for Touch ID, the creator decided to embed the fingerprint sensor into the side-mounted power button.

And since there was no room for the front-facing selfie camera as well, the mad lad had even created a dedicated pop-up motor mechanism as well just to house the selfie camera!

Taking the dream a step further, since he also wanted a no-compromise iPhone, he had swapped out the iPhone SE 3’s battery for the larger capacity one on the iPhone X, and the lightning port for a USB-C port. Despite all the modifications above, the man still managed to find space left to fit a 3.5mm headphone jack and wireless charging into the “new iPhone”.

The end product of this project is truly nothing short of extraordinary, as not only this 4.7-inch bezel-less “New iPhone” is smaller than the iPhone 13 Mini, it features the long-gone headphone jack, USB-C port, and even a larger battery than on the iPhone SE 3rd Generation (2022).

Unfortunately, this “New iPhone” is not available for sale and probably won’t ever reach the market. However, there have been recent rumours of Apple implementing USB-C in its next iPhone 14 series like the iPad Air 4 (2020) and iPad Mini 5 (2021).

Apple launched its new iteration of affordable iPhones: the iPhone SE 2022. Despite carrying a midrange-class price tag, the new compact and affordable device hitten the shelves with exactly the same processor as the iPhone 13 series. That is the reason why, given that it is also a compact phone, a lot of people are wondering which one is the best deal between the iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone 13 mini. Is it worth spending more to get the compact variant of the iPhone 13 lineup or does the iPhone SE 2022 give people all they need with its affordable price? The answer to this question is not always the same and it depends on the kind of user evaluating the purchase. This is a comparison between the specifications of the two most recent Apple compact phones.

Apple iPhone SE 2022 vs Apple iPhone 13 mini

Design

In terms of design, the iPhone 13 mini wins immediately. Its design is exactly the same as the other last-generation iPhones, with a borderless display, a notch, and a form factor with flat borders. The iPhone SE 2022 comes to the market with the same design as the very old iPhone 8, so it is definitely nothing special if compared to the other high-end phones released in 2022. Further, despite having a bigger display, the iPhone 13 mini is more compact than the iPhone SE 2022. Both are built with a glass back and an aluminum frame, but the 13 mini has better water resistance thanks to the IP68 certification (up to 6 meters deep for 30 minutes instead of just 1 meter for 30 minutes).

The display of the iPhone 13 mini beats the one found on the iPhone SE 2022. It is a Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, the HDR10 certification, Dolby Vision support, and more brilliant colors. The iPhone SE 2022 is equipped with a good panel, but it is an old LCD display with an HD+ resolution and no advanced technologies to improve the image quality. For the authentication, the iPhone SE 2022 relies on the old Touch ID placed below the display, while the iPhone 13 mini supports 3D facial recognition thanks to Face ID.

Specs & Software

The iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone 13 mini are powered by the same processor: the hexa-core Apple A15 Bionic with 4-core graphics built with a 5 nm production process. Until now, it is the most powerful Apple processor ever seen on an iPhone. Both the handsets are equipped with 4 GB of RAM and NVMe storage, so the performance level is the same. But the 13 mini comes with up to 512 GB of internal storage, while the SE 2022 stops at 256 GB. The only difference is the native storage in the most expensive memory configuration of each phone. Both run the 15th version of iOS and they will get long software support.

Camera

The iPhone 13 mini has a more advanced camera setup than its internal rival. It is equipped with a 12 MP main camera sporting an f/1.6 focal aperture and OIS, paired with another 12 MP camera, but this is an ultrawide sensor. The iPhone SE 2022 has just one single 12 MP sensor with an f/1.8 focal aperture: it lacks the ultrawide camera and the main sensor has lower performance. The 13 mini also comes with a better 12 MP front camera.

Last but not least, the iPhone 13 mini is equipped with a bigger battery: the capacity is 2438 mAh and, thanks to its OLED display, the energy consumption is usually lower. The iPhone SE 2022 has a 2018 mAh battery and an LCD display consuming more energy. Both come with 18W fast charging and Qi wireless charging, but the 13 mini is the only one to support MagSafe.

Price

You need €509 or $429 to purchase the iPhone SE 2022, while the iPhone 13 mini starts from €699 or $699. The 13 mini wins the comparison thanks to a better display, superior cameras, and a bigger battery, but if you do not mind these features, the SE 2022 can let you save a lot of money.

Apple is apparently planning on cutting down production of its iPhones and AirPods series of products. The news amid uncertainties caused by the Ukrainian crisis and inflations that may impact demand for its consumer electronic products.

As per a NikkeiAsia report, the Cupertino based giant is now planning on making around 20 percent lesser iPhone SE in the next quarter of this year. The brand might also lower production by around 2 million to 3 million units over its initial plans. This is in line with our previous report. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had also stated that Apple might lower iPhone SE 2022 production due to lower than expected demand for the smartphone.

For those unaware, the iPhone SE 3 is the latest smartphone from the company, and is the first within its affordable SE series to feature 5G connectivity. Furthermore, the iPhone maker isn’t stopping just there, as it might also be planning on reducing its orders for its AirPods truly wireless earbuds as well. Reportedly, orders to its supply chain might fall by more than 10 million units for this year.

The move follows as the brand is scaling back its inventory levels, again due to weaker than expected demand in the market. In the past, the company had also asked suppliers to make a few million lesser iPhone 13 series models to better adjust for the seasonal demands. So, this news isn’t really a big surprise. Earlier today (28th March 2022), a known Apple analyst revealed that the newly launched iPhone SE 2022 isn’t as popular as the brand hoped it would be, with the company seeing demand, which is lower than expected.

The news arrives from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who shared this information on his Twitter account. In the tweet, Kuo stated that the Cupertino based giant’s iPhone SE 2022 saw lower than expected market demand. Thus, he also said that he is lowering his shipment estimates for the 2022 iPhone SE. Notably, the analyst said that the lockdowns in Shanghai did not affect the brand’s iPhone SE production. But despite this, it still saw lower sales.

So now, the shipment estimates for the newly unveiled iPhone has been dropped to 15 to 20 million units, down from his initial 25 to 30 million units estimated shipments. For those unaware, the 2022 iPhone SE is the latest smartphone from the brand. The new device comes with 4GB of RAM, which is higher than the last generation’s 3GB of RAM. This model sports a 4.7 inch display that retains the typical Touch ID just like its predecessor.

Under the hood, the iPhone SE 3 houses an A15 Bionic processor, which is a 5G enabled chipset. The device also features a 12 megapixel rear camera sensor. Interestingly, the iPhone SE 3 is apparently seeing the same kind of market reception as the iPhone mini series. In other words, it appears that the demand for smaller iPhones have fallen, which is the primary reason that Apple is expected to drop the mini model in the iPhone 14 lineup.

After two years from the latest model from the lineup, Apple just launched its new affordable iPhone: the iPhone SE 2022. And it is even the most affordable last-generation Apple phone. After its launch, a lot of people are wondering whether or not it is the best affordable compact flagship or you can get something better with similar prices. This year, the main Chinese smartphone manufacturer came up with a compact flagship as well. We are talking about Xiaomi and the vanilla Xiaomi 12: it is not as compact as the iPhone, but its display diagonal is below-average and the phone is very powerful just like the iPhone SE 2022. Xiaomi 12 vs Apple iPhone SE 2022

Design

The design of the iPhone SE 2022 is very outdated: it has an amazing build quality, but it looks like the old iPhone 8 with its thick bezels and the presence of the Touch ID. On the other hand, it is one of the most compact phones out there; it could be more compact without those big bezels, but it remains one of the most compact handsets thanks to its small display. Coming back to the build quality, the iPhone SE 2022 has the same Ceramic Shield glass as the iPhone 13 series and it is even water resistant thanks to the IP67 certification. But the Xiaomi 12 is the handset with the most suggestive design: it has very narrow bezels around the display, as well as a punch-hole panel protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. It is bigger in terms of dimensions and it is not water resistant, but it is more beautiful.

Display

The Xiaomi 12 is the device with the most advanced display. It is an AMOLED panel with one billion colors, a diagonal of 6.28 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and Dolby Vision. Besides having a higher resolution, it provides a better color reproduction if compared to the LCD display of the iPhone. But the latter is not disappointing in terms of color accuracy. The Xiaomi 12 comes with an in-display fingerprint reader, while the iPhone has a Touch ID under its panel, on the lower bezel. In both cases, you get good stereo speakers but no audio jack.

Specs & Software

The iPhone SE 2022 is affordable but it is powered by the same Apple A15 Bionic mobile platform as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. This processor gives it amazing performances in every scenario. It comes with a lower amount of RAM than the iPhone 13 lineup, but the optimization of the iOS operating system makes its performance better than almost every Android phone. However, the Xiaomi 12 is still an amazing flagship thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform (the best one by Qualcomm). The iPhone runs iOS 15.4 out of the box, while the Xiaomi flagship comes with Android 12 and MIUI 13.

Camera

If you are looking for the best cameras, then go for the Xiaomi 12 without thinking twice. It has three sensors on the rear side, including the main one with a 50 MP resolution, OIS, and phase detection autofocus. Then there is a 13 MP ultrawide camera and a 5 MP telephoto macro camera. The iPhone SE 2022 has a single 12 MP camera so its photographic experience is not so versatile, but photos still look great.

Battery

The Xiaomi 12 has a much bigger 4500 mAh battery than the 2018 mAh unit found on the iPhone SE 2022, that is why its battery life is way longer on a single charge. Further, it features 67W fast charging and 50W wireless charging, providing way faster charging speeds.

Price

In the European market, Xiaomi 12 starts from €799/$880, while the iPhone SE 2022 costs €529 in the base 64 GB configuration ($429 in the U.S. market). The Xiaomi 12 is definitely a better phone thanks to its superior display, cameras, and battery. But the iPhone comes with amazing performance and higher build quality. Further, it is more compact. Apple iPhone SE 2022 shipments are expected to be around 30 million units, which is about the same as its previous model’s 2020 shipments of 25-30 million units, according to estimates by Digitimes research analysts Sean Lin and Luke Lin.

The report says that Apple has already prepared less than 5 million components for the new iPhone SE in the first quarter of this year, but actual shipments will be lower than that number.

However, shipments in the next quarter are expected to surge to 11 million units, with the third quarter seeing sales in similar numbers. The shipments will only start dropping from the fourth quarter to make way for the release of the next-generation iPhone 14.

The iPhone SE 2022 along with phone sales from Samsung and Chinese OEMs are expected to significantly boost 5G mobile phone shipments in non-Chinese markets in 2022.

In 2021, a total of about 280 million 5G mobile phones were shipped to markets outside of markets. This figure is expected to rise by more than 60% to 450 million units, accounting for 63.5% of global shipments.

But since 80% of phone shipments in China are already 5G models, shipments there are expected to achieve only single-digit YoY growth in 2022.

An analyst has predicted an upswing in shipments and sales of Apple products, driven mainly by the iPhone SE (2022) which was officially unveiled a few days back. The budget iPhone SE is the third iteration of the product and its price is just above $400, while it comes with several premium-grade features.

Analyst Amit Daryanani says the iPhone SE 3 launch will provide the much-needed tailwind to surpass the shipment of 35 million units of the model within its first year. This projection is driven by some key fundamentals which indicate that the latest iPhone SE will draw traditional older iPhone users to the budget-friendly smartphone. Apart from its 5G capability, the iPhone SE 3 is powered by Apple’s premium A15 bionic chip which is also present in the iPhone 13 series. This puts the iPhone SE 3 on a higher pedestal performance-wise, with most of the budget phones in the segment, as well as older iPhone models.

Even with shipment costs, the new iPhone SE 3 will hover around $450-$500 and that could yield up to $20 billion in annual revenue for the Cupertino-based tech giant. The quantum of units of the iPhone SE 3 sold could account for up to 5% of the revenue projections of Apple by the end of 2022, which is impressive. Daryanani sees the iPhone SE 3 as well-priced for the features it comes with, together with the fact that it outperforms some of the older iPhone models like the iPhone 8, as well as its 5G capabilities.

There is a similar trajectory for the previous iterations of the iPhone SE and this new model could produce a better performance than the previous models. If the outlook turns out correctly, it will be a boon for Apple investors, as the company continues to establish its leadership on the higher end of the smartphone segment while also making inroads into the budget end of the market.

Apple just launched the iPhone SE (2022) the day before yesterday and has not started shipping it to customers yet. However, someone has managed to get their hands on one to run the Geekbench test on it.

So without further delay, here are the results of the latest iPhone SE’s Geekbench test.

The A15 Bionic powered iPhone SE manages to score a mind-blowing 1695 points on the single-core test and 4021 points on the multicore test. It is worth noting that these scores are considerably higher than the iPhone SE (2020) model which scores around 1300 in single-core and 3300 in multi-core tests on a good day.

Compared to the iPhone 13, the device trails only a bit in the single-core department but is left behind by around 700 points in multi-core tests. This is to be expected as the iPhone SE (2022) is a small form factor device, Apple has probably put some artificial limits on the device to counter thermal and battery brain issues.

The benchmarks are also obviously higher than anything Android has to offer. For single-core, the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 holds the highest score in the Android camp with 1057 points and for multi-core, the Huawei Mate 40 has the highest score of 2249 points.

As for its spec sheet, the new iPhone SE 2022 comes with the same design, and 4.7-inch screen as its predecessor and also features the Touch ID button. However, the device is now powered by the 5G enabled A15 Bionic chip coupled with 4GB of RAM. The back of the device gains protection from a Ceramic Shield and is now certified with IP67 water and dust resistance.

The new iPhone SE (2022) is available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. In terms of colors, the phone will be available in midnight, starlight, and PRODUCT Red colorway. Pricing starts at $429 for the 64GB version and the device is expected to go on sale from March 18 in 30 countries including the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The iPhone SE 3 will be available to pre-order from March 11.

The pre-orders of the iPhone SE (2022) will begin in India on March 11. The company will carry out the first sale of the iPhone SE (2022) on March 18 in India.

iPhone SE (2022) specifications

The iPhone SE (2022) has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD Retina HD display that offers 625 nits of max brightness and true-tone technology. The home button located on the chin of the device is integrated with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The device is powered by the A15 Bionic chip and runs on iOS 15.

Last week, Apple announced that their “Peek Performance” event will be held on March 8th. Now that the event is almost upon us, let’s take a look at all the products which are expected to launch tomorrow.

iPhone SE (2022)

The Cupertino-based giant launched its last iPhone SE model back in 2020, and a successor is long overdue. The upcoming iPhone SE has been a hot topic online and has been subject to multiple leaks over the past few months.

So far, the leaks suggest that the new iPhone SE will come in multiple color variants and storage capacities of 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB. The iPhone SE (2022) will come in color variants such as white, black, and red. The device will be driven by the Apple A15 Bionic chipset, and it will carry support for 5G connectivity (mmWave and sub-6GHz).

Other than the inclusion of the 5G enabled A15 Bionic chipset, the device is expected to remain similar to its predecessor offering a 4.7-inch LCD display and a physical home button at the front integrated with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The device was also said to include MagSafe charging, but recent leaks suggest that this won’t be the case either.

iPad Air 5 and entry-level iPad

The next-gen iPad Air aka the iPad Air 5 is said to come with the same design and display as the 2020 iPad Air, but the tablet is expected to house the latest A15 Bionic chipset present in the iPhone 13 series. This SoC inclusion will give the tablet the long-awaited 5G connectivity.

The front camera of the device will also be getting an upgrade as it will now support the Center Stage technology which Apple introduced with the iPad Pro 2021. For those unaware, Center Stage uses machine learning to adjust the front-facing Ultra-Wide camera when you use video apps such as FaceTime on your compatible iPad model. As you move around, Center Stage helps keep you and anyone else with you in the frame. This feature will be a great addition considering work and study from home scenarios.

Last month, a report also revealed two new iPads carrying model numbers A2757 and A2589. The tablets allegedly entered India for internal testing and were expected to be launched in spring. These are expected to be the entry-level offerings from Apple in the tablet segment and could be priced roughly around $300.

Mac mini

Another Apple device due for an update is their M1-powered Mac mini. Rumors surrounding updated Mac Minis have been floating for a while now, and if they are to be believed, Apple will introduce the 2022 Mac mini tomorrow with a new design and the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. According to reports, the Mac mini 2022 will have a thinner body, a polycarbonate top, an increase in the number of ports at the back, and a magnetic power connection.

Apple External Display

As we know, Apple currently only offers a single external display which is the 32-inch Pro Display XDR with a price tag of $4,999. At the 2022 Peek Performance event, the tech giant is expected to unveil a more affordable 27-inch Apple display without mini-LED. Rumors about Apple working on a new Studio Display with 7K screen resolution and A13 Bionic chipset have also been making the rounds recently, however, the launch of this high-end product is expected to take place in 2023.

Apple is expected to announce the successor to the iPhone SE (2020) on March 8. It is unclear if the next one will be called the iPhone SE (2022) or iPhone SE 3. A couple of days ahead of the launch, an Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared key details about the design, chipset, and color variants of the iPhone SE (2022).

According to Kuo, the iPhone SE (2022) will have a form factor similar to the iPhone SE (2020).Like the predecessor model, the iPhone SE (2022) will come in multiple color variants and storage capacities of 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB.

The iPhone SE (2022) will come in color variants such as white, black, and red. The device will be driven by the Apple A15 Bionic chipset, and it will carry support for 5G connectivity (mmWave and sub-6GHz). Kuo added that the iPhone SE (2022)’s mass production this month. It is expected to ship around 25 to 30 million units of the phone in 2022.

It appears that the support for 5G connectivity will be the only major improvement on the iPhone SE (2022) as compared to its predecessor. Based on previous reports, it can be said that the iPhone SE 3 may retain the 4.7-inch LCD display and a physical home button at the front integrated with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

The March 8 event will also see the arrival of a couple of other Apple products. The iPad Air 5 is likely to launch with some upgraded features such as an Apple A15 chip, 5G support, a 12-megapixel FaceTime camera, and Centre Stage support. Other products that could be announced include an M2 chip-powered MacBook Air, a 23-inch Mac with an HDR display and an M1 Pro/Max chip, and a Mac Mini with an M1 Pro/Max chip.

The highlights of the realme C35 include a 6.6-inch FHD+ notched display (LCD) with up to 600 nits peak brightness, UNISOC T616 chipset, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, 50MP (wide) + 2MP (macro)  + 2MP (monochrome) triple camera setup,  8MP selfie camera, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 5,000mAh battery, 18W fast charging, and Android 11 (realme UI 2.0).

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G

Samsung has scheduled to launch the Galaxy F23 5G in India on March 8. The Flipkart-exclusive smartphone will be announced in a live stream that will begin at 12 PM on the company’s official YouTube channel.

The South Korean tech giant has disclosed some of the features of the device already. It will arrive with a 120Hz FHD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC, a triple-camera system comprising of a 50MP primary sensor and a 123° ultra-wide lens, 5,000mAh battery, and support for 25W fast charging

Apple iPhone SE 2022

Apple will be hosting its first event of 2022 labeled ‘Peek Performance. The live stream is planned to kickstart at 10 AM PT. It can be watched on the official YouTube channel of the company.

The American tech giant is expected to announce multiple products at this virtual conference. One of them is said to be the iPhone SE 2022, the successor of the iPhone SE 2020. Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G

Xiaomi has already announced Redmi Note 11 Pro series in multiple markets. The handsets are finally making their way to India on March 9. They will be unveiled in a live stream, which will kickstart at 12 PM on the brand’s official YouTube channel.

Talking about the devices, the company has confirmed to debut two models, namely Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+. According to teasers and earlier reports, the former will be the same as the international Redmi Note 11 Pro with 4G connectivity. Whereas, the latter will be a rebranded international Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G.

realme 9 5G and realme 9 5G SE

Chinese tech brand has planned yet another launch event for India on March 10. It will be also live-streamed starting at 12:30 PM on the said date on the firm’s official YouTube channel. The stars of the show will be realme 9 5G and realme 9 5G SE.

These two will be the third and fourth phones in the realme 9 series respectively. The realme 9 5G will be almost identical to the realme 8 5G. On the other hand, the realme 9 5G SE is expected to be a rebadged realme Q3s.

Top Leaks and Rumors from Last Week

Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro to sport vivo-like design

We finally got to see the design of the upcoming Redmi K50 and Redmi K50 Pro last week. Unfortunately, the new-gen Redmi K series phones will drop their unique design language in favor of a rear design inspired by vivo. This design was first introduced by the Xiaomi group on Xiaomi CIVI.

Thanks to TENAA, we also know the maximum available memory configuration of Redmi’s flagship smartphone lineup. The  Redmi K50, the Redmi K50 Pro, and the Redmi K50 Pro+ will max at 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB respectively.

POCO F4 GT specs leak confirm Redmi K50G rebrand

The key specs of the yet-to-release POCO F4 GT leaked last week. According to them, the device will be indeed a rebadged Redmi K50G, which is also known as Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.

This is not surprising as the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition debuted as POCO F4 GT in global markets. Most importantly, the Redmi K50G was already spotted at certification websites as Redmi K50G.

There may not be a Xiaomi 12 Lite but new CIVI series phones instead

Earlier last week, a report revealed that Xiaomi 12 Lite will be a fusion of Xioami CIVI and Xiaomi 12.  A day later, another report disclosed that Xiaomi CIVI Pro may launch soon with slightly better specs than the original Xiaomi CIVI. This device was originally supposed to release as Xiaomi 12 Lite Zoom.

A few days from that, a Xiaomi exec confirmed that there will be no Xioami 12 Lite in 2022. This means the rumored Xiaomi 12 Lite could release as a Xiaomi CIVI series phone in China alongside the so-called Xiaomi CIVI Pro. But we cannot rule out the possibility of it launching under Xiaomi 12 Lite branding in international markets.

vivo may release a ‘Note’

The long-rumored vivo NEX 5 is now expected to go official as vivo X Note. A leak from last week not only disclosed the phone’s name but also some of its specs.

The device is said to arrive with a 7-inch QHD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED display, Qualcomm  Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, 50MP Samsung ISOCELL S5KGN1 primary camera, 48MP Sony IMX598 secondary camera, 12MP Sony IMX663 tertiary camera, and 8MP OmniVision OV08A10 quaternary camera with 5x optical zoom lens, 5,000mAh battery, and 80W fast charging.

Next-gen Samsung A series is just around the corner

The key features of the forthcoming Galaxy A73 5G, Galaxy A53 5G, Galax A33 5G, and Galaxy A23 5G emerged last week. The details about their display, chipset, camera, battery, and charging leaked.

All four will sport an FHD+ high refresh rate display and a quad-camera system. Most of them will have a 5,000mAh battery and a couple of them will have 25W fast charging support, while the remaining two will be limited to 15W charging.

Interestingly, only one of them will feature a Qualcomm chipset. Whereas, two models will come with MediaTek SoCs and the remaining one will house an Exynos chip.

Cheapest 5G iPhone ever to release in a few days

According to a report from last week, the upcoming Apple iPhone SE 2022 is rumored to start at only $300. It will be $100 cheaper than its predecessor iPhone SE 2020.

Despite being more affordable, the latest model is expected to arrive with 5G connectivity, a new chipset, and better battery life. If this happens to be true, then It will release as the cheapest 5G iPhone to date.

Valued at a record 3 trillion USD in the market, Apple‘s market cap is higher than the GDP of India, a country with a population reaching 1.5 billion within the next few years. Only four countries in the world now have a higher GDP than Apple’s market cap – the United States, China, Japan, and Germany.

With that in mind, Apple is planning to continue its market dominance and expand its smartphone business into further uncharted territory for the company, the lower mid-range smartphone market. Rumours within the industry reveal that Apple may be planning to launch the next 2022 iteration of its iPhone SE starting from only USD $300. 

The news comes from Investor’s Business Daily. The report claims that Loop Capital Markets analyst John Donovan said he’s heard rumours that the new 5G-supported iPhone SE 3 (2022) could start at $300. This news comes as a surprise because the current 4G iPhone SE 2 (2020) model starts at $399, and the iPhone SE 3 is rumoured to feature a better processor, 5G support and better battery life than its predecessor. 

For comparison, for double the price of $300, at $599, you can only buy Apple‘s cheapest 5G smartphone available, the iPhone 12 Mini and Apple’s second-generation 5G smartphones, the iPhone 13 series, starts at $699. 

But why is Apple planning to venture into the under $300 category of smartphones? The report quoted that JPMorgan analysts in December 2021 speculated that Apple wanted its new iPhone to spur a wave of switchers from Android smartphones. The move has the potential to lure some of the nearly 1.4 billion value-conscious minded users of low to midrange Android phones to switch and about 300 million users of older model iPhones to upgrade, the investment bank said in a report to clients. 

As for the specifications of the iPhone SE 3 (2022), it is expected that the new iPhone SE is sporting the 5G Apple A15 Bionic chipset found on the latest iPhone 13 series. Design-wise the iPhone SE 3 (2022) will retain the same design as its predecessor with a glass front and back with an aluminium chassis, and the signature Touch ID on the home button located on the chin of the device.

The iPhone SE 3(2022) is expected to launch at Apple’s annual Spring Launch Event. Apple has not officially revealed the date of the event yet but speculations and leaks point to March 8, 2022 as the day when the event starts.

Apple conventionally organises three highlighting events in a calendar year which are its Spring Launch Event held in March or April, its annual WWDC conference held in June, and its Fall Launch Event in September or October. Apple’s Spring Launch Events may not bring as much attention as its flagship Fall Events, but Spring is normally when Apple launches its more affordable offerings for its users such as the Apple Airtags and iPhone SE lineup.

In 2022, Apple is rumoured to announce the iPhone SE (3rd generation), the successor of the iPhone SE (2nd generation) released back in April 2020, and the iPad Air (5th generation), the successor of the iPad Air (4th generation) released back in September 2020, at its yearly anticipated Spring Launch Event.

Macotakara, a Japanese tech platform with connections to Asian technology supply chain manufacturers, published a post that according to its reliable Chinese sources, the designs of the iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air 5 have been officially confirmed and both devices have now gone into mass production in the region. 

Macotakara also shared several upcoming details of the iPhone SE 3 in their posting as well. The iPhone SE 3 is said to sport the same compact housing as its predecessor, the iPhone SE 2, and the glass and aluminium chassis is to remain unchanged from its predecessor as well. 

Another surprising news is that the Apple iPhone SE 3 will not include support for MagSafe. Instead, the device will only support conventional Qi Wireless Charging introduced back on the iPhone 8. MagSafe was introduced back on the iPhone 12 series to provide faster and more reliable wireless charging for iPhone users and every iPhone announced since then has had this feature.

The main upgrade of the iPhone SE 3 will be the performance under the hood. The iPhone SE 3 is said to come with 5G connectivity support and will be equipped with the Apple A15 Bionic chip, the same one found on the iPhone 13 series.

Just like every year, Apple is expected to hold its March event this year. However, the launch date was yet to be revealed. Now, as per Bloomberg, Apple could keep the event on March 8. Also, it is expected to be an online event like last few years.

There have been a lot of reports lately related to the upcoming iPhone SE smartphone from Apple which is coming with support for 5G connectivity for the first time. And here comes yet another report hinting at its delayed launch.

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that this year’s iPhone SE with 5G support could launch in March. However, a new report now claims that the device’s launch could get pushed to April or May this year.

The report from Ross Young of Digital Supply Chain Consultants reveals that the panel production for the display that will be used in this year’s iPhone SE is starting this month, which puts the launch timeline in the second half of April or early May.

This new timeline is in line with what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested. He had reported that Apple will host a virtual event in March or April for the launch of the iPhone SE 3 smartphone in the market.

Based on the previous leaks and reports, the iPhone SE 2022 will be similar to the model available right now in terms of design but will arrive with better specifications. It will look like an iPhone 8 but will feature upgrades in terms of internals.

The phone is expected to come with a 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD display and will also feature a Home button with a fingerprint sensor embedded. It is likely to be the last Apple smartphone to come packed with an LCD display panel and a home button.

It will be powered by the Apple A15 processor along with 3GB of RAM while there could also be a Plus variant that will pack 4GB of RAM. The chipset also brings support for 5G connectivity to the phone. There will still be a 12-megapixel single camera sensor on the back with improved photography features.

The next smartphone from Apple is said to be a budget model with 5G connectivity. This handset is expected to be called iPhone SE 2022. It will be the successor of the iPhone SE 2020, which is limited to 4G. A lesser-known Apple analyst re-iterates the features of this device, which have been under the rumor mill for a while now.

According to Dylan (@dylandkt), the upcoming iPhone SE will not be what he tipped last January. Instead, it will be nothing but a spec upgrade for the current-gen iPhone SE 2020.

He says that the new iPhone SE will be similar to the model available right now in terms of design. However, it will arrive with better specs and 5G connectivity.

In a nutshell, the so-called iPhone SE 2022 will look like an iPhone 8 but will feature upgrades in terms of internals. It is said that this one will be probably the last iPhone with a Touch ID-embedded home button.

Almost a year ago, the same person stated that the iPhone SE releasing in 2022 will sport a design similar to iPhone 11, however, with a smaller screen. He added that this handset will have its fingerprint sensor on the power key like the iPad Air 4th Generation.

Now, he says that an iPhone SE with the aforementioned specifics will debut in 2024. 

Having said that, despite sporting an old design, the iPhone SE 2022 will reportedly reel in over a billion Android users to the Apple ecosystem.

Apple is reportedly working on a new iPhone SE model. Fresh information shared by TrendForce, a research firm from Taiwan, the third-generation iPhone SE is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2022. Probably, the Cupertino based brand will announce it by the end of March 2021.

The research firm claimed that apart from launching the alleged iPhone SE 2022 in Q1 2022, Apple will also have four models in the second half of the year. It is expected to arrive as a mid-range phone with support for 5G connectivity. Apple’s production volume for the coming year is expected to reach 25 to 30 million units, claimed the company.

It was revealed by reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the appearance of the iPhone SE will be similar to the existing iPhone SE 2020 model. Hence, it is expected to retain the 4.7-inch display. The only major change the iPhone SE 2022 is expected to offer is the inclusion of a new processor that will bring support for 5G connectivity.

The iPhone SE 2020 borrowed a lot of features from the iPhone 8 and came with upgraded internals like the Apple Bionic A13 chip. It is likely that the iPhone SE 2022 may feature the Apple A15 Bionic, which powers the iPhone 13 series that debuted this year.

Rumors also suggest the existence of the iPhone SE Plus. However, the new report has no information on it.

Earlier we reported that Apple will launch the next Special Edition smartphone in 2022. Rumors have it that the smartphone may come powered by the Apple A14 Bionic chipset and will have a familiar design. Now, a new report suggests that the iPhone SE 3(a.k.a iPhone SE 2022) will be the cheapest 5G iPhone. Additionally, the concept renders of the smartphone have also been surfaced.

According to popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone SE 3 will be a 5G phone and it will be the cheapest 5G Apple device next year. It is touted to be even cheaper than the existing Apple iPhone 12 mini.

Hopping to the concept renders, the iPhone SE 3 looks exactly like the iPhone XR but with a slightly tweaked camera module. It has a single camera at the rear and an LED flash just beside the lens.

Notably, it seems to come in multiple colors and the concept renders give us an idea of what to expect. It has Red, Orange, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Purple colors.

Interestingly, the other renders of the phone showcase the Bicolor shades of the phone where the device has a dual-tone color scheme. It flaunts the Apple branding at the center, and half of the back panel has a darker shade, whereas, the other part of the panel has a lighter shade.

The smartphone features a notch display, and by no means it is like the rumored iPhone 13 screens. It has the same size notch as the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and the button positionings are also the same.

That said, the iPhone SE 3 is not expected to bring anything new, especially in terms of the design. At the helm, it is speculated to come powered by the Apple A14 Bionic chipset which is the same as the existing iPhone 12 series.

Apple is expected to unleash the iPhone 13 series in September this year. Since the launch is not too far away, the rumor mill is actively leaking information on the next-generation iPhones. Fresh information that has emerged on DigiTimes does not talk about the iPhone 13 lineup, but the next generation iPhone SE arriving next year. Recently, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the iPhone SE will be equipped with an updated processor. The new report also supports this claim and mentions that it may launch in the first half of 2022.

The new report states that the Cupertino-based firm is now hiring chip probing specialists through its partner Xintec. While Xintec is known as a subsidiary of TSMC, it has been supplying components to Apple since the time it launched the first iPhone SE back in 2016.

The iPhone SE 2022 (or the iPhone SE 3) is expected to feature an Apple A14 Bionic processor that fueled the iPhone 12 series last year. The company is expected to advertise as the most affordable 5G-ready iPhone.

Probably, there will not be any major design on the third-generation iPhone SE. Hence, it may continue to sport a 4.7-inch display with thick bezels and the good old Touch ID sensor. The other details of the device are under wraps.

The iPhone SE 2020 has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen that offers 750 x 1334 pixels, an Apple A13 Bionic chip, 3 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, and a 1,821mAh battery. For photography, it has a 7-megapixel selfie camera and a 12-megapixel rear camera with OIS support. It was introduced with a pricing of $399.
