Under the hood, the Magic 6 Pro is equipped with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This chipset is paired with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage (12GB + 512GB in India). Honor’s Magic 6 Pro has been well received in the market (click here to check out our video review). So it’s a great premium offering from the Chinese brand. So is it worth it? Yes, but it depends on where you’re buying this model from. The Magic 6 Pro launched in China for a starting price tag of 5699 Yuan (roughly 793 US Dollars or 66,417 INR), meanwhile, the 16GB + 512GB option costs 6,199 Yuan (roughly 873 US Dollars or 73,117 INR). But in India, it only comes in a lone 12GB + 512GB option that has an 89,999 INR price tag or about 1,075 US Dollars. This is an over 200 US Dollar price difference in the Indian market.

Where else can you buy it from & why is it costlier in India?

To avoid paying the imported premium, there are options in other countries that are also cheaper. A great example of this is Dubai (UAE). The same 12GB + 512GB configuration is sold for 3,499 AED or about 953 US Dollars. This is still 120 US Dollars cheaper than the Indian listing. There is also a simple reason why it’s more expensive in India. HTech’s Honor Magic 6 Pro isn’t assembled in the region and is fully imported. So it faces an import duty when it is shipped from overseas.

Honor yesterday revealed that its first smartphone co-branded with design house Porsche Design will be named RSR. The company has now quietly opened pre-reservations for the phone in China starting today.

Interested buyers can now reserve the Honor Magic 6 RSR Porsche Design by paying a 911 yuan deposit at the Porsche Store. This deposit will give them early access to the first round of online pre-orders on January 11th and 12th. Plus, they’ll receive a special surprise gift box.

However, this deposit is just for early access and will be refunded on January 13th; it doesn’t count towards the phone’s full price. This means the full payment for the Honor Magic 6 RSR will begin only on January 11th, 2024.

There’s not much we know about the Honor Magic 6 RSR edition phone, except the story behind the RSR suffix. The “RSR” in the phone’s name draws inspiration from Porsche’s racing history. It stands for “RennSport Rennwagen,” meaning “racing sport racing car” in German, typically reserved for track-only versions of the iconic Porsche 911.

Though specific details about the Magic 6 RSR are unavailable, Honor has already revealed the standard Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro.

Honor has officially announced that its first smartphone, created in collaboration with design house Porsche Design, will be named RSR. The company shared the news today through a teaser, which also revealed the story behind the name RSR.

The RSR moniker originates from “RennSport Rennwagen,” German for “racing sport racing car,” a designation reserved for track-only versions of the famed Porsche 911 car. While the full name and design of the RSR remain undisclosed, it will likely join the upcoming Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro smartphone in the January 11 launch.

Meanwhile, both the Honor Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro have now been listed in Huawei Mall in China revealing the design and color options of the smartphones. 

Both phones come in black, white, green, purple, and cyan, with a round rear camera module housing three triangularly-arranged lenses. The images also confirm the Magic 6 Pro boasts a 100x zoom (likely 10x optical) compared to the standard’s 50x zoom. Additionally, the Pro boasts a dual selfie camera setup, while the regular Magic 6 sticks to a single lens.

As for the core hardware specifications, the Magic 6 series will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor complete with Magic OS 8.0 based on Android 14. Storage options will start at 256GB and 512GB, with the Pro variant offering a top-tier 1TB option. The Pro model is also said to include a unique satellite connectivity feature.

Likewise, previous report suggests that Magic 6 and 6 Pro will come with a a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50H main camera and a 50-megapixel OV50M ultra-wide lens. For telephoto shots, the Magic 6 is said to incorporate a 50-megapixel OV50M camera sensor, while the Pro variant is expected to house a Samsung HP3 camera sensor.

Honor is introducing its 90 GT smartphone in China today, along with the Honor Pad 9. After this launch, the company is likely to shift its attention to the Honor Magic 6 series. Rumors suggest an early 2024 release in China, and as that date approaches, leaks regarding the possible features of the Magic 6 series continue emerging online.

A recent leak, shared by a Weibo user, showcases an alleged real-life image of what could be the Magic 6 Pro. The image reveals a triple-camera setup on the back, arranged in a triangle formation.

The top camera appears to be a periscope lens, judging by the “100x” zoom inscription beneath it. The Weibo user also provided a render offering a clearer view of the phone’s design.

Below the periscope lens, two other sensors likely reside, possibly a main and ultrawide lens. Previous rumors suggest a 1-inch Omnivision OV50K sensor for the main camera and a 160MP periscope telephoto lens. Furthermore, we can also expect a 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) facial recognition housed within the front-facing pill-shaped cutout.

The Magic 6 Pro is also expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and may even feature satellite connectivity. Honor also recently filed a trademark for the latter.

Beyond the Pro model, the Magic 6 series is rumored to include a standard variant and a Porsche Design model. Although renders of the latter surfaced alongside the Pro a while ago, they seem inaccurate in light of the new leak showcasing a considerably different design for the Magic 6 Pro.

While an official launch date remains unconfirmed, January 2024 appears to be a potential timeframe for the Magic 6 series to debut. We’ll keep you updated on any additional leaks and official announcements for a clearer picture of what to expect.
