First was the Mi 8 Explorer edition with a cool translucent rear panel. The company also announced an NFC version of the Mi Band 3 which can power cardless payments on compatible platforms. It took a long while after its launch for the Mi Band 3 NFC version could become available to buy but it is presently in use. Xiaomi has now announced a new update for the NFC version. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-222521" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3.png?x44794" alt="Mi Band 3" width="597" height="424" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3.png 597w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3-300x213.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3-255x180.png 255w" sizes="(max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px" /></a></p>
<p>The new update brings two new features, one of which is support for Chang&#8217;An card. The card is a universal electronic toll collection system in use in the city of is Xi&#8217;an and can be used to pay for various services in the city including utility bills. The second feature is the ability to add a blank NFC card. This would allow the card to be used by a third-party elsewhere.</p>
<p>Apart from these new features, the Mi Band 3 NFC version can be used for contactless payments using Mi Pay in China. Apart from Mi-Pay, the version can be used for bus card and subway ticket payment. The bus card feature will be enabled for use in 167 cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Tianjin, and several others. Xiaomi released the list of the first batch of bus credit cards that are supported and they are eight in all for now. The NFC version is also compatible with non-Xiaomi NFC smartphones and may likely work with other NFC compatible platforms outside China.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-222522" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3-2.jpg?x44794" alt="XIaomi Mi band 3 NFC" width="640" height="427" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3-2.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/mi-band-3-2-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>

However, the company yesterday announced that the <a href="https://www.gearbest.com/smart-watches/pp_009283725849.html?wid=1349303&amp;lkid=15621463" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mi Band 3</a> NFC edition <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/09/11/xiaomi-mi-band-3-nfc-version-sale-on-september-19-total-wearable-sales-exceed-50m/">would go on sale on September 19</a> with a 199 yuan (~$29) price tag. Xiaomi also disclosed that the sale of its Mi Band models right from inception <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/09/11/xiaomi-mi-band-3-nfc-version-sale-on-september-19-total-wearable-sales-exceed-50m/">has exceeded 50 million units.</a><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-211297" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi band 3 NFC" width="572" height="448" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3.png 572w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-300x235.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px" /></a></p>
<p>Xiaomi has now revealed that a Mi Band 3 NFC Limited Commemorative Edition would also be released on September 19. The new version is a limited edition which would be given out free to fans of the brand. Xiaomi disclosed it only manufactured 666units, each of them having an identification number ranging from 001-666. This may sound kind of creepy to some but in China, 666 can mean &#8220;everything goes smoothly&#8221;. It is usually associated with luck.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-211298" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-2.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 3 NFC version" width="647" height="369" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-2.png 647w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-2-300x171.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 647px) 100vw, 647px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>As for the design, the buckle ring of the new commemorative edition has a laser engraved pattern with NFC written as well as the assigned number of the customised unit. The device also comes with a Maple leaf red coloured wristband. The details also include a customised packaging box.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-211301" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-3.png?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 3 NFC" width="657" height="330" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-3.png 657w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/mi-band-3-3-300x151.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px" /></a></p>

You also get water resistance, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, steps counter, sedentary reminder, call and message notification. While the standard version is already available for purchase in China, the NFC version is yet to go on sale.</p>
<p>The company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/08/31/xiaomi-mi-band-3-nfc-variant-launch-imminent/">recently posted a video</a> on its Weibo account showcasing the Mi Band 3 NFC version and hinting that the device could soon be available in the market for purchase. Now, Huang Wang, CEO of Huami posted on Weibo that Mi Band 3 NFC version has passed three tests and is almost ready to go on sale. The company had earlier revealed that the Mi Band 3 NFC variant will be available from September but no specific date has been announced yet.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-205633 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/xiaomi-mi-band-3-features.jpg?x44794" alt="xiaomi mi band 3" width="720" height="420" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/xiaomi-mi-band-3-features.jpg 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/xiaomi-mi-band-3-features-300x175.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>The NFC variant of the Xiaomi’s new third-generation activity tracker comes with support for contactless payments using <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mi-pay/">Mi Pay</a>. It also supports City Bus Card payments that work for over 167 cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Suzhou, Hefei, Xi’an, and Jilin among others.</p>
<p>The Mi Band 3 comes with a 0.78-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen. According to the company, the display is designed with an aim to offer a better experience for viewing / rejecting calls and messages. It has been redesigned to ensure that the tracker doesn’t fall off from the strap, which a lot of users complained about for its predecessor.</p>
<p>Along with the addition of viewing messages and call view/ reject feature, the Mi Band 3 can also provide weather forecast as well as an alarm clock, which can be turned off from the touchscreen. Other features include heart rate monitor, daily steps count and sedentary reminder as a part of the health management functions.</p>
<p>Further, the Mi Band 3 comes with water and dust resistance, and is completely waterproof for up to 50 meters, ensuring that it works perfectly even when the user is swimming. One of the crucial thing for a wearable device is the battery life and Xiaomi has taken care of the battery department. The newly launched Mi Band 3 comes with an improved battery, which the company claims can last for up to 20 days on a single charge.</p>

This video teaser from the company hints that the device could soon be available in the market for purchase. The company had earlier revealed that the Mi Band 3 NFC variant will be available from September but no specific date has been announced yet.</p>
<p>The NFC variant of the Xiaomi&#8217;s new third-generation activity tracker comes with support for contactless payments using <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mi-pay/">Mi Pay</a>. It also supports City Bus Card payments that work for over 167 cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Suzhou, Hefei, Xi&#8217;an, and Jilin among others.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-201474 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-3.jpg?x44794" alt="Xiaomi Mi Band 3" width="936" height="639" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-3.jpg 936w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-3-300x205.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Xiaomi-Mi-Band-3-768x524.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 936px) 100vw, 936px" /></p>
<p>The Mi Band 3 comes with a 0.78-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen. The company says that the display is designed with an aim to offer a better experience for viewing / rejecting calls and messages.
One of the crucial thing for a wearable device is the battery life and Xiaomi seems to have taken care of the battery department. The newly launched Mi Band 3 comes with an improved battery, which the company claims can last for up to 20 days on a single charge.</p>

<p>The NFC variant of the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is priced at 199 Yuan, which roughly converts to $31 but its availability is not yet known.
