On Dec. 17, Huawei had introduced the Huawei Nova 4 smartphone. As scheduled, the handset went on sale for the first time in China today at 10:08 AM. Soon after making it available for buying, its Pearl White went out of sale while the rest of the color variants such as Honey Red, Blue and Black are still available for buying.

The Huawei Nova 4 comes in two variants such as Standard and High version. These variants are respectively priced at 3099 Yuan (~$451) and 3,399 Yuan (~$495).

The Nova 4 is the first smartphone from the company to adopt the punch hole display design which features a 4.5mm diameter cutout at the top-left corner. The handset is fitted with a 6.4-inch IPS LCD screen that carries support for full HD+ resolution of 2310 x 1080 pixels.

The Kirin 970 chipset that powered the Huawei and Honor branded phones in the previous year drives the Huawei Nova 4. The SoC is supported by 8 GB of RAM. It includes an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. For accelerated graphics performance, the Nova 4 features GPU Turbo technology.

The frontside of the Huawei Nova 4 is fitted with a 25-megapixel selfie shooter. The Android 9 Pie OS that is customized with EMUI 9.0 skin comes loaded on the smartphone. The Nova 4 draws power from 3,750 that is equipped with support for 18W rapid charging. The rear shell of the phone features a fingerprint scanner.

The standard and high version of the Huawei Nova 4 feature triple rear cameras. The standard version has 20-megapixel primary sensor whereas the high version has 48-megapixel main sensor. The other two sensors that are present inside the triple camera module of the Nova 4 are 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel.

At present, the Huawei Nova 4 is only available for buying in China. There is a possibility that the smartphone will be made available in other countries in the starting months of the coming year.

He Gang who is the President of Huawei’s smartphone division wants to thank everyone for their support and love.  Hence, in order to celebrate the achievement of its new milestone, the Chinese manufacturer has announced commemorative editions of Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Huawei Nova 4. Through his official Weibo account, He Gang has shared a poster that reveals the design of these phones.

The Emerald colored Huawei Mate 20 Pro Commemorative Edition features 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage whereas the Secret Red colored Huawei Nova 4 Commemorative Edition has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The sales of these devices will begin on Jan. 1 at 10:08 AM (local time) in China. There is no information available on the price tags of these special edition models. These phone feature a log with two stars and “200 Million Huawei Mobile 2018” text on the rear.

Reports reveal that since the launch of Huawei P20 series, the global shipments of the company have exceeded 16 million units. Female users accounted nearly half of the number. The shipments of Huawei Mate 20 series that was announced in October has already exceeded 5 million units. Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is leading the Chinese smartphone market.

In 2010, the Huawei had shipped 3 million units. In 2017, it shipped 153 million units. Earlier this year, a research report by Canalys confirmed that Huawei had surpassed Apple in Q2 2018 to become the world’s second largest smartphone vendor.  Currently, Huawei holds a global market share of 14.6 percent. More than 500 million people in more than 170 countries across the globe are using Huawei phones.

Huawei’s Consumer Business CEO Yu Richard has confirmed that the company has set a shipment target of 20 million units for the Huawei Mate 20 series. In 2019, it aims to increase overall shipments to 250 million units. By 2020, it will strive to ship 300 million units.

Yesterday was one of the high points of the year for Huawei as the company announced its first in-screen camera smartphone – the Huawei Nova 4 with a 25 MP selfie camera. The launching was supported with some neat slides, showing that over 65 million people bought devices from the Nova series since it was first unveiled.

The Nova 4 was first unveiled in October 2016 meaning the series is just two years ago. The Nova series is a mid-range lineup for Huawei which is highly traded in China and other Asia-Pacific markets. It has always relied on being elegant, beginning from the 2016 Huawei Nova with a design inspired by the Nexus 6P. Later, Huawei Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus came in stylish colors like the flagship Huawei P10 – Grass Green, Streamer Gold, Aurora Blue, and so on.

The Nova 2s tested the Mate 10’s technique with a fingerprint scanner and a big screen of about only 4.5mm in diameter on the front while running the flagship Kirin 960 chipset. However, Huawei Nova 3 kept the custom, but the Nova 3+ arrived in Europe as Huawei P Smart and with the lower-powered Kirin 710 chipset.

The glass back of the Huawei Nova 4 features a fingerprint reader and a vertically arranged triple camera setup. A recent leak had revealed that the Huawei Nova 4 will be featuring a 48-megapixel rear camera. The Chinese manufacturer has shared an image of the Honey Red version of the Nova 4. The image confirms that the smartphone will be indeed arriving with a 48-megapixel rear camera.

The Huawei Nova 4 Honey Red edition has a gradient color appeal. It is red at the top which gradually becomes purple towards the bottom. The handset features a fingerprint reader on the rear shell which seems to be made out of glass. The “48-megapixel AI Camera” words are etched below the LED enabled triple camera system. The Huawei Nova 4 is expected to land in China in standard and high versions. It reveals that the smartphone will be hitting the Chinese markets in standard and high versions.

The new leak reveals that the standard and high versions of the Huawei Nova 4 will have the same processor, RAM and inbuilt storage. The only different between the two variants is that the higher model will feature 48-megapixel main sensor.

In the high version, the 20-megapixel main sensor will be replaced by 48-megapixel while the remaining sensors will remain the same. There is no confirmation on whether the Huawei Nova 4 high version will be coming with Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor that will be available on the upcoming Honor V20 flagship phone. A week ahead of its launch, the Nova 4 has appeared on TENAA with its images to reveal its appearance from all directions. Moreover, the Chinese manufacturer has also released a teaser video of the smartphone.

The Huawei Nova 4 TENAA images reveals the smartphone will be featuring a small hole for the front-facing camera on the top-left corner of its display. The display is surrounded by super-slim bezels on three sides expect for the bottom one which is a slightly thick.

The back panel of the Nova 4 features a Huawei P20 Pro like triple camera setup without Leica branding. A fingerprint is also placed on the glass rear of the smartphone. What follows is an official teaser video of the Nova 4 which again showcases the front design of the smartphone.

CNet has also shared some exclusive (shown below) images of the Huawei Nova 4. All the images suggest that the smartphone will indeed offer a very high screen-to-body ratio.

The TENAA listings of VCE-AL00 and VCE-TL00 model numbers that belong to Huawei Nova 4 only contain few details on its specs. The handset features a 6.41-inch display and it is fueled by 3,900mAh battery. The dimensions of the handset are 157.57 x 74.85 x 8.2mm.

There is no confirmation on whether the Kirin 980 chipset or Kirin 710 SoC. Probably, the company may settle for Kirin 710 for the smartphone. The Huawei Nova 4 will launch in roughly two weeks as one of the first phones to adopt the hole-in-display technology. The phone has appeared in public but we only got to see its front. New photos have now appeared online that not only show us the phone’s rear but also a closer look at its display.

From the photos, one can tell the Nova 4 is pretty big even with the shaved off bezels. It is also a bit wider than the average phone. The display practically stretches to the top part of the phone’s frame but on the bottom, there is still a bit of bezel. Sadly, none of the photos show the phone during media playback so we can see if the area where the camera is gets blacked out.

The photos reveal the Huawei Nova 4 will come in a gradient finish similar to the Iris Purple color variant of the Nova 3 though there is more of blue than purple in this case. We also get to see the phone’s triple camera setup which is the same design as that of the Huawei P20 Pro.

The display is said to be LCD so it is no surprise that the fingerprint scanner is on the rear of the phone. There is no photo of the ports but there is definitely a USB-C port and very likely an audio jack on the device.

It is speculated that the smartphone could be equipped with an impressive front-facing camera.

The specifications of the Huawei Nova 4 are still under the wraps. There is no confirmation on whether the Kirin 710 chipset or Kirin 980 SoC will be present under the hood of the device. On the basis of the predecessor model, it can be guessed that the Nova 4 will come with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of native storage. The Snapdragon 710 chipset powered smartphone will also feature an in-screen camera. The handset will be also blessed with triple rear cameras. Hence, it is being speculated that the Nova 4 could be also arriving with triple camera system. On Dec. 6, Lenovo will be announcing the Lenovo Z5s. Instead of camera cutout at the top-left corner, it will be featuring it at the center at the notification bar area.

Last week, Huawei teased an image on its Weibo account, suggesting that the Chinese company is all set to launch a smartphone with Infinity-O like display in December. While the phone, Nova 4 — successor of the Nova 3 — appeared in several leaks and concept renders, the exact launch date was not known.

However, the company has now posted another image on Weibo, revealing that the Huawei Nova 4 will be officially launched on 17th December.

The Huawei Nova 4 is confirmed to come with a display with ‘punch-hole’ cutout in the top-left corner for the front-facing camera. Because of this design, the phone is expected to have an impressive screen-to-body ratio.

Under the hood, the device is expected to be powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 octa-core chipset which is manufactured using 7nm process, claimed to be the world’s first mobile chipset to do so. This is the same processor that powers the Mate 20 series and the Honor Magic 2.

The phone is also expected to come with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Since no fingerprint sensor is visible on the front or back, it’s safe to assume that the phone will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Connectivity options on the device could include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, USB Type-C port. On the software front, we are expecting Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 out-of-the-box.

Huawei has not been specific about when the Nova 4 will launch in December but it appears it isn’t concerned about hiding the phone from the eyes of the public. Today, the Nova 4 made an appearance at the birthday party of the Nova series brand ambassador.

Chinese singer and member of musical pop group TFBoys, Jackson Yee, is a brand ambassador for Huawei’s Nova series and today is his eighteenth birthday. At the elaborate birthday party which had lots of guests present and was live-streamed, Huawei’s upcoming Nova 4 also made an appearance.

Images taken from the livestream show the phone’s front and the hole in its display. As you can see, the hole which houses the front-facing camera is on the same line as the network and notification icons. The position of the hole should be less distracting compared to a notch but the phone’s software should behave the same way it does for notched phones i.e black bars at the sides when watching a video.

Huawei is in the race to release a phone with a hole in its display and rumors say it will beat Samsung to it. Where Samsung’s contender is the Galaxy A8s, Huawei is expected to unveil the Nova 4. A concept render of the phone has surfaced online that shows what the phone might look like when Huawei unveils it next month.

The Nova 4 is shown here looking a lot like the Huawei P20 Pro with its triple rear cameras but ditching the notched display for a hole-in-screen display. However, unlike the P20 Pro, this Nova 4 doesn’t have a front-mounted fingerprint scanner thanks to its slimmer lower bezel. There also isn’t a fingerprint scanner on the rear which means it is most probably under the display.

The Nova 4 has a gradient finish and might as well be one of the nicest we have seen on a phone.

Probably, just as the Nova 2S was in December 2017, the Nova 3S could be arriving in the coming month. The Nova 3S could be powered by Kirin 970 chipset like the Nova 3, but it could be arriving with a better display design. The Nova 3 sported a wider notch on its screen. Hence, the Nova 3S could be equipped with a waterdrop notch. Since the phone is slated to get official next month, Huawei is expected to release more teasers on it in the coming days.
