OnePlus was slightly late to the Android 16 party, but lately the brand has been speeding up its rollout. Multiple devices are receiving the OxygenOS 16 update ahead of the rollout schedule, including the OnePlus Nord CE 5. This phone was scheduled to receive the update in December, but it’s always good to see an early release.

According to a post on the OnePlus Community forum, the OxygenOS 16 update for the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is currently rolling out in India. It’s tagged with the firmware version CPH2717_16.0.1.300(EX01). OnePlus says the update will continue to roll out to more regions and users in batches. So, the wait shouldn’t be long if you live outside India.

If you’re rocking a OnePlus Nord CE 5 in India, navigate to Settings > System & Updates > Software update to check if the update is available on your device. If it hasn’t, you can join the Release Candidate Program to get updates early. For this, go to Settings > System & Updates > Software update > Beta Program, then tap the update now button.

OxygenOS 16 is a pretty substantial upgrade for OnePlus devices, bringing a host of useful features, extended customization options, AI enhancements, and visual upgrades. It adopts iOS 26-inspired Gaussian Blur effects, which create a Liquid Glass appearance. The Quick Settings panel now supports drag-and-drop functionality, and there’s a split layout mode for a two-column design that improves multitasking and quick access to controls.

The lock screen gets even better, thanks to dynamic wallpapers and customizable themes featuring multiple clock styles, fonts, sizes, and colors. Users can also add live photos or videos as wallpapers with depth effects. Flux Themes 2.0 takes lock-screen personalization a step further with extended customization options.

OnePlus has also improved Fluid Cloud, now supporting expanded applications, including music controls, live activities, and live scores. The update introduces Mind Space, an AI-powered personal assistant that integrates Google Gemini’s AI capabilities to provide intelligent, context-aware assistance by analyzing the stored data. The AI also helps with writing, generating summaries, live transcriptions, noise reduction, photo enhancements, and power management.

Privacy and security also improve in OxygenOS 16, thanks to a revamped privacy dashboard, an anti-tracking mechanism, improved cookie management, Private Computing Cloud, and instant lockdown features. The update also brings plenty of under-the-hood improvements to deliver better performance and power efficiency. And the new Parallel Processing has been introduced to improve multitasking and app interactions.

OnePlus has begun the incremental rollout of OxygenOS 15.0.2.501 for its Nord CE 5 and Nord 5 devices, bringing system stability improvements, camera optimizations, and the August 2025 Android security patch.

Nord CE5 Update

For the OnePlus Nord CE 5 (build CPH2717_15.0.2.501(EX01)), the update enhances video performance and overall camera stability, aimed at improving photography and videography experiences. On the system side, the release strengthens overall stability and integrates the August 2025 Android security patch for better protection.

The rollout is starting in India, with a limited number of users receiving the OTA first. A wider release is planned in the following days.

Nord 5 Update

For the OnePlus Nord 5 (build CPH2707_15.0.2.501(EX01)), the update delivers similar upgrades in camera performance and stability. Additionally, it addresses a specific issue where Eye Comfort mode might not work during HDR video playback. Like the CE5 update, it also boosts system stability and includes the August 2025 Android security patch.

This rollout covers the India, Europe, and Global regions, following the same incremental approach as the Nord CE5. A small group of users will receive the OTA first, followed by a broader rollout.

Availability

As with previous OxygenOS releases, availability will expand gradually to ensure stability before wider distribution. Users are advised to check for updates manually in device settings if they haven’t received the notification yet.

The OnePlus Nord CE is one of my favorite smartphone lineups. Having reviewed the last two generations, I was excited to experience the 2025 iteration, the OnePlus Nord CE 5.

After using the phone for an extensive period, I’m ready to share my thoughts. It’s clear that the latest model in the series retains its core principles but also differs from its predecessors in some key aspects.

For those who may not know, the “CE” in the name stands for “Core Edition.” This product line is marketed as a more affordable version of the mainline Nord phone, aiming to deliver the core experience in spirit.

The Nord CE 5 costs around ₹25,000, which is one of the hottest price segments in India. So, how is it overall? Let’s find out.

Design: A Return to Simplicity

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 has a minimalistic design like its more expensive sibling OnePlus Nord 5. Both phones are nearly identical, with only major differences being the camera island and the absence of the ‘Plus’ key on the CE.

In fact, the Nord CE 5 is the simplest-looking smartphone in the lineup since the original model, which was released back in 2021. This plain yet practical design caters to a wider audience.

I have the handset in the Nexus Blue color variant. This hue is stunning and I would recommend it over Black Infinity and Marble Mist if you like to stand out.

Despite the change in design compared to previous generations, the CE 5’s body is still plastic. But the material used is as strong as usual and feels comfortable to hold.

Performance: A Huge Leap Forward

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 is the most powerful device in the series to date. It is even faster than many other handsets in its price segment.

The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip, paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. This chipset is as powerful as flagship silicon from a few generations ago.

These powerful internals make the phone more future-proof than its predecessors. There are none of the occasional stuttery animations seen on previous models. The gaming experience is also significantly improved, with performance approaching that of last year’s mainline OnePlus Nord 4.

Furthermore, the product should age well, as it is eligible for four generations of Android updates and six years of security patches. At launch, it ships with OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15.

Display, Cameras, and a Marathon Battery

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 is built around a 6.77-inch centered punch-hole OLED display. This panel is different from previous generations, despite having a similar size, resolution (FHD+: 2392 x 1080 pixels), and refresh rate (120Hz).

The newer screen is rated to reach 1300 nits of peak brightness in auto-brightness mode. Under direct sunlight, it is noticeably brighter than the displays on earlier models.

Furthermore, the CE 5 is equipped with the same 50MP Sony LYT-600 primary camera as the CE 4. The ultrawide unit remains 8MP; however, the sensor is now an OmniVision OV08D10 instead of the Sony IMX355. The selfie camera remains a 16MP unit.

The output from these cameras is slightly better than that of the earlier models, despite the hardware being largely the same. This improvement is attributed to the better ISP (Image Signal Processor) in the newer chip and improved software optimization.

The CE 5 also supports video recording up to 4K 60fps from the main camera and 1080p 60fps from the selfie camera. For comparison, its predecessor was limited to 30fps for both.

The optical in-display fingerprint sensor is as snappy as ever. There’s also a useful IR blaster placed between the rear camera modules to control various devices.

Lastly, there’s a massive 7,100mAh battery inside. Despite this battery not being the latest silicon-carbide variety, the product still weighs only around 199g and measures about 8.2mm in thickness. The large battery delivers up to two days of endurance with light usage and can easily last more than a day even with moderate to heavy use.

The Compromises: What’s Missing?

The previous Nord CE phones I reviewed were not perfect, but they excelled at the basics. They were neither bad nor exceptional in any single area; rather, they were well-balanced in all aspects.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the OnePlus Nord CE 5. It has significant shortcomings in key areas where its predecessors did not. To accommodate the large battery, OnePlus has sacrificed the dual stereo speaker system and the premium x-axis linear vibration motor. These two omissions significantly hamper the overall user experience.

The bottom-firing mono speaker gets loud, but its audio quality is average at best. The media experience feels incomplete due to the lack of stereo separation, effectively forcing users to rely on earphones.

Similarly, the haptics on earlier Nord CE models were among the best in the segment. The experience on the CE 5 is the complete opposite, much like on the more expensive Nord 5. It’s easy to miss calls when the phone is in vibrate mode, and UI interactions feel lifeless due to the bland haptic feedback.

The 80W charging speed sounds fast on paper, but it isn’t in practice. Since the handset features a single-cell lithium-ion battery, it still takes over an hour to charge fully.

Finally, the India variant of the device continues to lack NFC, just like the CE 4. For context, the first three models in the series included NFC in all regions.

Verdict: Who Is This Phone For?

In my review of the OnePlus Nord CE 3, I called it the “mid-ranger for the masses,” and its successor, the Nord CE 4, followed closely in those footsteps. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the OnePlus Nord CE 5.

In its pursuit of a larger battery, the brand has sacrificed crucial aspects that define the daily user experience, such as stereo speakers and quality haptics. While the phone is still a great value for its price, these new shortcomings, ones not present in previous models, negatively impact the overall package.

This decision to prioritize battery life at the expense of core features was likely a calculated one, possibly driven by market research. However, for a lineup once praised for its balance, these compromises feel like a step in the wrong direction.

Ultimately, if you can overlook these specific drawbacks and value battery longevity above all else, the OnePlus Nord CE 5 could still be the right choice for you.

Build and Feel:
The OPPO Reno 14F boasts a more rugged and premium construction, thanks to its IP68/IP69 rating, offering complete dust protection and water resistance for submersion and high-pressure sprays. The Nord CE 5, while still water-resistant with IP65, cannot match this durability. Both phones use sturdy materials, but OPPO’s certification gives it an edge for reliability in harsher environments. The Reno 14F is also slightly thinner and lighter, enhancing one-handed usability.

Display Quality:
Both smartphones offer AMOLED panels with 1B color support and 120Hz refresh rate, but the Nord CE 5 pulls ahead in peak brightness, hitting 1430 nits versus Reno 14F’s 1400 nits (HBM). Additionally, it supports Ultra HDR and HDR10+, making it a better pick for HDR video content. However, Reno’s display is slightly sharper at ~397 ppi versus ~387 ppi. Still, OnePlus offers better viewing outdoors and stronger brightness control.

Verdict:
OPPO Reno 14F wins in build quality with its superior waterproofing, but OnePlus Nord CE 5 delivers better screen brightness and HDR support, making it more appealing for media-heavy users.

Specifications 

Performance:
The Nord CE 5 features the newer Dimensity 8350 Apex chip, which offers higher peak clock speeds (3.35 GHz) and better GPU (Mali-G615 MC6) performance than the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 found in the Reno 14F. The Dimensity chip is also more efficient on 4nm and handles multitasking and gaming more fluidly. While both offer UFS 3.1 and up to 12GB RAM, OnePlus also includes the latest Bluetooth 5.4 and broader codec support like LHDC 5.

Battery and Charging:
The Reno 14F includes a larger 6000 mAh battery versus Nord’s 5200 mAh (global) or 7100 mAh (India). However, the OnePlus features much faster 80W wired charging and supports bypass charging, a key feature for gamers. OPPO’s 45W charging is decent but lags in speed. Moreover, OnePlus offers better thermal management under load with bypass support, while OPPO includes reverse wired charging as a bonus.

Verdict:
Nord CE 5 outperforms in raw speed and charging tech, making it better for performance-driven users, while OPPO Reno 14F appeals more to endurance-focused users with its massive battery and practical reverse charging.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses:
Both phones offer a 50MP main sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide, but Reno 14F adds a 2MP macro and a color spectrum sensor for better white balance. Its ultrawide also includes autofocus, a rare bonus in this class. Video capture is similar, but Nord offers higher slow-motion frame rates and more resolution options. Reno’s image processing is slightly better tuned for color accuracy and lighting due to the extra sensor.

Selfie Camera:
The Reno 14F is the clear winner with a 32MP selfie shooter featuring autofocus, a major advantage over Nord’s fixed-focus 16MP unit. While both record 1080p video, Reno delivers sharper and clearer self-portraits, especially in low light. For video calls and social media, Reno’s camera offers significantly better versatility.

Verdict:
OPPO Reno 14F provides a superior camera experience overall with its better selfie camera, more versatile rear setup, and color accuracy enhancements, making it better suited for creators and social media users.

Pricing

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 is priced around $400, while the OPPO Reno 14F sits at $500. For $100 less, Nord offers a more powerful chipset, faster charging, and a comparable display. Reno justifies its higher price with a bigger battery, stronger water protection, and better cameras.

However, for budget-conscious buyers who prioritize performance and charging, the Nord CE 5 is the more value-focused option.

Conclusion

The Reno 14F stands out with its IP69 waterproofing, reverse wired charging, color spectrum sensor, and superior selfie camera features that cater to outdoor users and photography enthusiasts. On the other hand, the Nord CE 5’s strengths lie in its Dimensity 8350 Apex chipset, faster 80W charging, higher peak brightness, and bypass charging, which appeal more to performance and gaming-oriented users.

Verdict:
Choose the OPPO Reno 14F if you value photography, durability, and battery life. Go with the OnePlus Nord CE 5 if your priority is performance, fast charging, and HDR media experience, especially considering its lower price.

Display-first media binger

The Nord CE 5 comes with a 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, and it’s not cutting corners here either. This is a 120Hz display with up to 1300 nits (HBM) and 1430 nits peak brightness, along with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut support. That means it stays visible even under harsh sunlight and delivers rich, accurate colors indoors. Whether you’re streaming, scrolling, or creating content, the display holds up impressively

And despite its Rs. 24,999 starting price, you’re getting little luxuries like an in-display fingerprint scanner and USB-C audio with decent bottom-firing speakers. There’s no headphone jack, but the trade-off doesn’t feel unreasonable given the other perks.

All-day, all-weekend phone user

Battery anxiety? Not here. The Nord CE 5 houses a massive 7100mAh cell, the biggest ever in a OnePlus phone. It promises multi-day battery life, and with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging, you’ll get back to 100% in just over an hour. There’s also bypass charging for when you’re gaming and don’t want to heat up the battery. That’s a thoughtful touch usually reserved for more premium gaming phones.

If your day-to-day involves long commutes, extended usage sessions, or you just hate being tethered to the wall, this phone should be on your shortlist.

Casual shooter

Don’t expect flagship-tier photography here, but the 50MP Sony LYT-600 main sensor is no slouch. It comes with OIS and is paired with an 8MP ultra-wide and a 16MP selfie camera. You get 4K 60fps on the rear and 1080p 60fps on the front, more than enough for solid daytime shots and social media-ready clips.

Long-term software

OnePlus is promising 4 years of Android OS updates and 6 years of security patches. That’s a first for any Nord CE phone. And the CE 5 ships with Android 15 and OxygenOS 15 out of the box. If you’re the kind of buyer who doesn’t change phones often, that kind of support window is gold.

Who should probably skip it

If you’re after top-tier camera performance, wireless charging, IP rating, or flagship-grade materials, this isn’t your phone. Also, if you’re hoping for a foldable, curved-edge design, or periscope zooms, look elsewhere.

Final thoughts

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 isn’t trying to outshine the flagships; it’s trying to outlast and outvalue the competition in its class. It’s a phone for gamers, for power users, and for those who want long-term reliability without emptying their wallet. If you fall in any of those categories, this might just hit the sweet spot.

OnePlus has started rolling out the OxygenOS 15.0.2.311 update for the Nord CE 5 in India. This marks the first software update for the newly launched device. It comes with a build version for the Indian region is CPH2717_15.0.2.311(EX01). Details of the new features and changes included in this update are listed below.

The update introduces a new AI feature called “Save to Mind Space.” This allows users to save screen content as memories, which are automatically summarized and archived within the app.

A new interconnection feature has also been added, enabling remote control of computers. Users can now use their phones to control their computers and access files remotely.

Camera performance has been improved in two key areas: color accuracy and overall stability, aiming to provide a smoother and more consistent photography experience.

For gamers, the update enhances responsiveness by increasing the touch sampling rate to 3000 Hz. An additional 300 Hz boost is available in Pro Gamer mode for more precise touch feedback.

With the Nord CE 5 launching being right around the corner, OnePlus is betting big on a budget-friendly phone that delivers major specs. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new, improved, and worth considering.

OnePlus Nord CE 5: Design & Display

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 is basically a rebranded version of the China exclusive Ace 5 Racing Edition with some internal changes. So the overall design is practically identical. On the rear, you get a slight redesign from its predecessor. In our previous report, we also covered leaked renders of the Nord CE 5, which confirmed that it will be releasing in India in at least 2 color variants. This includes a white and black option (Marble Mist and Black Infinity).

Meanwhile, the front sports a tall 6.77-inch AMOLED display. Based on the earlier Ace 5 Racing Edition release, the screen likely offerings FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Hardware

For a budget phone, OnePlus is packing some capable specifications under the hood. The Nord CE 5 makes a significant shift from Qualcomm to MediaTek. It will be equipped with the new Dimensity 8350 Apex SoC, which is a 4nm based chip. A recent GeekBench sighting listed the device with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, achieving a score of 1321 points in the single core test and 4082 points in the multi core test. 1. Nothing Phone (3)

Launch date: July 1, 2025 (official)

The Nothing Phone (3) is launching later today. It’s expected to introduce rather significant changes to its rear design. Official-looking renders appeared recently, showing an awkward placement of the rear cameras. While Nothing hasn’t confirmed Phone (3)’s camera setup, it has confirmed that one of the three is a 50MP periscope telephoto unit.

The black circle on the right is for the Glyph Matrix. There’s no iconic Glyph Interface that we are used to seeing in Nothing phones. The brand will likely use the new Glyph Matrix in upcoming high-end phones as well.

The Phone (3) is expected to feature a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 1.5K resolution and a 5,150mAh battery with 100W wired and 15W wireless charging support. It’s confirmed to pack the powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset for smooth performance. The phone will receive Android updates for five years and security updates for seven years.

2. AI+ Smartphones

The new AI+ smartphone brand, led by Realme India’s former CEO, Madhav Sheth, is all set to launch its first smartphones next week. The upcoming phones — AI+ Nova 5G and AI+ — Pulse are designed and built in India and will be exclusively sold through Flipkart.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it’s likely to sport a 6.8-inch inner screen and a 4-inch cover screen. Samsung is expected to ship the device with two chipsets, either with an Exynos 2500 or a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, depending on the market. The device could be equipped with a dual rear camera setup, including a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. It’s said to have a 4,300mAh battery and 25W fast charging support.

6. Realme 15 series

Launch date: mid-July (unofficial)

The Realme 15 series is confirmed to launch soon in India. Although there’s no exact launch date yet, it will most likely be unveiled later this month.

The official teaser reveals that the brand will soon launch the Realme 15 5G and Realme 15 Pro 5G. There will likely be a “Pro+” variant at a later stage. Most of the things about the Realme 14 series are under covers.

Vivo X Fold 5 and Vivo X200 FE are officially confirmed to launch soon, most likely this month.

The Vivo X Fold 5 may feature an 8.03-inch LTPO inner screen and a 6.53-inch cover screen, both supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s said to be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

The foldable phone could feature a triple camera setup on the rear side, including a 50MP (Sony IMX921) primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP (Sony IMX882) periscope telephoto unit. It’s expected to house a 6,000mAh battery with support for 80W wired and 40W wireless charging speeds.

The Vivo X200 FE will likely launch alongside the X Fold 5 sometime this month. Key specs include an LTPO AMOLED panel, Dimensity 9300+ chipset, and a 6,500mAh battery with 90W fast charging support. 7. Motorola Moto G96

The Honor X9c 5G features a dual-camera setup led by a 108MP primary shooter with OIS support. The brand claims a 3x zoom without any loss of detail. Additionally, the device offers a range of AI-assisted camera features, including AI Eraser, AI OIS Motion Sensing, and AI Night Mode.

The Honor X9c 5G packs a 6,600mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 66W fast charging. It has dual stereo speakers and boots MagicOS 9.0, based on Android 15.

Thanks to a recent GeekBench sighting, the Nord CE 5 is confirmed to launch with the Android 15 OS based OxygenOS 15 custom skin out of the box and 8GB of RAM. A sizeable 5,200mAh battery pack is expected to power this device (in the US and Europe), which likely supports 80W wired fast charging. But other regions like India might get the Nord CE 5 with a massive 7,100mAh capacity. OnePlus may offer at least 128GB of internal storage, and there should be a higher 256GB variant as well.

According to the leak, both devices will start at 8GB of RAM and go up to 12GB. Interestingly, OnePlus appears to be eliminating the 128GB storage option altogether. Instead, both models are said to ship with 256GB of internal storage by default. 

In terms of design choices, color options will differ slightly between the models. The Nord CE 5 is said to come in black, blue, and white, while the Nord 5 will be limited to just black and white.

Pricing details aren’t confirmed, but the leak suggests a price bracket between ₹25,000 and ₹35,000. That keeps both phones squarely in the competitive mid-range category. 

A rebranding strategy

Under the hood, both phones appear to be rebranded versions of existing OnePlus Ace models already available in China. The Nord 5 is said to be based on the OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra, featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. 

The Nord CE 5, meanwhile, will likely be a tweaked version of the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition with a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset. To note, the latter ships with Dimensity 9400e in China while the Ace 5 Ultra has Dimensity 9400+. 

That said, the phones might have a similar battery capacity to their Chinese counterparts. The Nord CE 5 is tipped to come with a sizable 7100mAh battery, while the Nord 5 may feature either a 6700mAh or a 7000mAh cell.

Both phones are said to include flat panels and adopt minimal exterior designs, consistent with recent OnePlus design trends. 

As of yet, OnePlus hasn’t confirmed a launch date for the new phones. But given the frequency of leaks, announcements may not be far off.

While the Nord 5’s Geekbench listing was reported earlier today, this post covers details that have emerged through the CE edition’s Geekbench appearance.

As can be seen above, an upcoming device with model number CPH2719 has appeared in Geekbench’s database. According to reports, the model numbers CPH2719 and CPH2717 are associated with the Nord CE 5.

The listing reveals that the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is powered by the Dimensity 8350v chipset. As usual, the chipset’s name is not mentioned in the listing. However, the CPU configuration and GPU information (via source code) that have surfaced through the listing confirm the inclusion of the said chip.

The Nord CE 5 has been found to be equipped with 8GB of RAM and Android 15. In the single-core and multi-core tests, the device scored 1,321 and 4,081 points, respectively.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 specifications (rumored)

The CE model might house an even larger 7,100mAh battery and could feature a 50MP primary rear camera. According to reports, it will also have an IR blaster and a dedicated Plus Key shortcut.

OnePlus may launch the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 around early July with competitive pricing and improved specifications. To recall, the brand’s Nord series is a popular series of mid range devices with the Nord 5 lineup succeeding the Nord 4s.

While the tipster did not reveal any details regarding their specs, previous rumors hint at the Nord 5 series being rebranded versions of the new Ace 5 models. In other words, the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 may mirror the design and hardware of the Ace 5 Ultra and Ace 5 Racing Edition respectively. So the Nord 5 series could debut with the new Plus Key and IR blaster as well.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 has appeared on the BIS certification website under model number CPH2717. While an earlier release was expected in May, the latest update points to a rollout sometime in June.

Tipster Debayan Roy has also revealed some key details about the Nord CE 5. As per Roy, the Nord CE 5 will feature a Full HD+ flat OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the device will be the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset, paired with a 7,100 mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging.
