Google Pixel 7 series finally receives the promised free VPN feature

Google is finally bringing a promised feature to its Pixel 7 series of smartphones. The company had announced that the flagship phones will receive a free VPN feature, which is finally rolling out to the devices.

For those unaware, the Search Engine tech giant had first announced this feature for its Pixel 7 series during its “Made by Google” event in which it also launched the Pixel Watch and phones. Now, the company is finally bringing this free VPN feature through the Google One application. To put things simply, VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and it helps change one’s identity when one is online and it even helps encrypt your internet data as well. In other words, it basically makes it harder for others to get unwanted access to your private data or track your location online.

This even helps in protection when using public WiFi networks. So now, users of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro can expect to receive this feature, with the company also putting up a support page that lists the countries where the feature is currently available. This includes nations like Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain Sweden Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and United States.

Notably, Google has also claimed that if you are from any one of these regions, the VPN by Google One will still be functional even if you travel to any other country or region. Furthermore, the free VPN services will also be offered to Google One subscribers with 2TB of online storage, which costs around 9.99 US Dollars per month.

But if you upgrade from last year’s base model to Pixel 7’s 256GB variant, it may cost as somewhere around $100.

Talking about the trade-in offer in detail, if you can upgrade from 128GB Pixel 6 to 128GB Pixel 7, it will cost you $20. If you upgrade from 128GB Pixel 6 to 256GB Pixel 7, it will cost you $120. If you switch from 256GB Pixel 6 to 128GB Pixel 7, you can grab the Pixel 7 for Free! Last but not the least, if you upgrade from 256GB Pixel 6 to 256GB Pixel 7, you will have to pay $100. So that was how the new trade-in offer works.

There are also trade-in options for the Pixel 7 Pro gadget, although upgrading might cost you as much as $399. On the other hand, if you switch from a 512GB Pixel 6 Pro to a 128GB edition of the Pixel 7 Pro smartphone, the lowest price you would have to pay to upgrade to Pixel 7 Pro is $149. If you want to make the jump, you’ll need to move quickly because this pricing is only valid through November 28. Google has guaranteed Pixel users up to 5 years of continuous monthly security patches. Keeping to its word, Google has released the November security patch for the Pixel 7 family. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones have both begun to receive the newest security patch update. It’s a minor update with a few bug fixes sprinkled throughout. The update’s primary goal is to extend the battery life of the devices.

The Pixel 6 series also received the security patch update. The Pixel 7 lineup will receive “optimizations for display power consumption to improve thermal performance in certain scenarios,” while on the other hand, last year’s Pixels will receive a “fix for an issue causing excessive power consumption while certain apps are loaded.”

Google Pixel 6 receives Pixel 7’s extended weather for At a Glance Widget

Google has been working on bringing some of the latest features introduced in its newly launched Pixel 7 series to its last year’s Pixel 6 lineup. Now, the latest one of these software features being brought over is the support for extended weather for its At a Glance Widget.

For those unaware, the Search Engine tech giant announced the Pixel 7 series with a number of new features like Face Unlock that were powered by its new Tensor G2 chip. However, while some of these software features are currently only exclusive to the new Pixel 7 series, the Pixel 6 is receiving a number of other features from the latest flagship smartphone models. The Pixel 6 has already received the new Clear Calling feature that reduce background noises on a phone call.

Similarly, the company has also ported the Guided Frame feature to the older Tensor chip powered Pixel phones. This basically brings accessibility feature that gives verbal instructions to a person with poor vision to get a good selfie shot. Now, AndroidPolice has spotted the new expanded weather forecast feature on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. This feature is a part of the At a Glance widget that is found on the top left corner of new Pixel phone’s display.

It shows any upcoming appointments, alarms, notify you when your flash is on, and other functions. You can even customize this widget to pick and choose what information you wish to display. It also shows the temperature and an icon that represents the current weather conditions. However, the Pixel 7 series added a new expanded weather forecast that appears in the morning to help users see the projected weather for the day at a glance. This could basically show users if the weather will be Sunny, Cloudy, or Rainy. It was originally rolled out with the Pixel 7, and is available in the Pixel 6 lineup as well now.

The wait is over and we finally have a launch date for Google’s upcoming Pixel 7 series. The search giant has confirmed the new flagships will be unveiled on October 6 at the “Made By Google” event. Now, ahead of the formal launch, the company has confirmed the new Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will also debut in the Indian market soon. We can expect the devices to be released in the country by the end of October, but the exact date has yet to be disclosed.

Google India’s official Twitter has confirmed that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are coming soon to India. In addition, the handsets will be available for purchase via Flipkart. Google recently announced that the pre-orders of the Pixel 7 series will commence on the same day that it is scheduled to be unveiled in multiple markets—October 6.

It is worth noting that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be the first flagship smartphones from Google that will be launched in India since the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The company usually launches the stripped down A-branded models (Pixel 6a, 4a) in the country first.

The upcoming Google Pixel 7 series smartphones are rumored to debut in October this year. A couple of months ahead of the rumored launch, the device has started appearing on certification databases like REL Canada. And now, the Pixel 7 device has appeared on Singapore’s IMDA database.

Spotted by tipster Mukul Sharma, the certification reveals that the Pixel 7 will come with 5G, 4G, and 3G connectivity options.

At the 2022 Google I/O event, the search giant gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming Google Pixel 7 series. The teaser only revealed the design of the smartphone and nothing else. It is expected to make its debut later this year (around October).
