Realme, a leading smartphone manufacturer, has announced a major restructuring of its product line. As part of this change, Realme will no longer produce “Master Explorer Edition” smartphones, which had gained popularity among users for their unique design. The Realme GT2 Master Explorer Edition will be the last of this series to be released.

Xu Qi, Vice President and China Region President of Realme announced this decision on Weibo, citing the need for simplification in the company’s product line. In his statement, Xu Qi also hinted at a new series that will cater to users who appreciate the “Explorer” series.

Realme’s product line previously consisted of several series such as the Neo, Numeric, GT, Q, V, and X. However, some of these series overlapped in terms of pricing, leading to confusion among users. This is believed to be a major reason for the restructuring.

The “Master Explorer Edition” smartphones, including the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition and Realme GT2 Master Explorer Edition, were known for their visually stunning design, featuring travel cases and hard case back covers.

Realme’s decision to discontinue the “Master Explorer Edition” series may come as a surprise to fans of the brand who appreciated the unique designs. However, the company’s decision to streamline its product line is a step towards simplifying its offerings and improving the user experience.

Realme has not provided details about the upcoming series that will replace the “Master Explorer Edition” smartphones. It remains to be seen what new features and designs this series will offer to users. Nevertheless, Realme’s decision to simplify its product line is a positive move that will help the company focus on delivering high-quality products that meet the needs of its customers.

Last year, realme launched two models in the realme GT Master series. These smartphones are called realme GT Master Edition and realme GT Master Explorer Edition. The latter has now started receiving realme UI 3.0 stable update based on Android 12.

The realme GT Master Explorer Edition got access to the realme UI 3.0 Early Access update in November. This means it took the brand almost 4 months to deliver the stable release.

Unsurprisingly, the update is being rolled out in batches. In simpler words, it is only available for a select few users. But it should reach every user in the coming days.

Further, since this is an OTA software update intended for the general public, it will not erase the device’s internal storage. However, it is recommended to back up important data to avoid loss in case of any issue.

Having said that, the realme GT Master Explorer Edtion is a China-exclusive smartphone. Hence, there will not be a global rollout for its latest software update.

Anyway, if you have imported one, the unit will get the OTA update when it is made available for everyone in the coming days. In fact, going by realme’s track record, the handset may receive one more Android update in the future.

Smartphone brand realme announced realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12 in mid-October. It is a tweaked version of ColorOS 12, which went official a month earlier. So far, users could experience the software on a single device called realme GT. But not anymore, as the brand has now begun to recruit testers for realme GT Master Explorer Edition.

The realme GT Master Explorer Edition is a China-exclusive smartphone. It has become the second device to be part of the realme UI 3.0 Early Access program after realme GT.

According to the official announcement post on realme Community, the company had opened registrations for recruitment yesterday at 11:30 AM (local time). It will continue to recruit testers until its selects 700 applicants.

In other words, there’s no deadline to participate. However, since it is FCFS-based (first come, first serve), it is better to register sooner than later if you happen to own this handset and want to desperately try out realme’s take on Android 12.

As usual, realme asks applicants to back up data before installing the update, which is pushed within a day from the selection. It also recommends having at least 10GB of free space. Finally, the phone should not be rooted and battery capacity should be above 60%.

At present, it is not known when this handset will get access to the stable update.

Chinese handset maker realme launched the realme GT Master Edition series in its home country in late July. The lineup includes two models, namely realme GT Master Edition and realme GT Master Explorer Edition. The former device made its way to India a few days back. However, the latter may not release in the region.

The realme GT Master Explorer Edition was recently spotted on Google Play Console and Google Supported Devices list. Hence, the device could launch in global markets.

But it looks like the smartphone may not release in India. This piece of information comes directly from a deleted tweet (via MySmartPrice) of Francis Wong, CMO of Realme India. Anyway, the phone might release in other international markets.

Talking about features, the realme GT Master Explorer Edition is better than the vanilla Master Edition in many aspects. It has a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset and a larger 6.55-inch curved AMOLED display. This Samsung panel supports 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate, 6,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 92.1% screen-to-body ratio, 1,100 nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The handset also has an updated triple-camera setup consisting of a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor with OIS, a 16MP ultra-wide unit, and 2MP macro snapper. For selfies and video calls, the phone uses a 32MP shooter. Last but not least, it is backed by a slightly larger 4,500mAh battery.

It would have been nice if this smartphone made its way to India. Anyway, customers can consider buying the OnePlus 9 RT, which is said to come with a similar set of features.

Last month Realme announced the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition, a special variant of GT Master Edition in China. A month after its initial launch, the smartphone has been spotted on the Google Supported Devices list and Google Play Console listing. 

According to images shared by tipster Mukul Sharma aka Stufflistings, the smartphone with model number RMX3366 has appeared on the list of Google Supported Devices and the Google Play Console listing, suggesting an immitent launch in India and other global markets. The tipster also shared an image clicked by RMX3366, aka Realme GT Master Explorer Edition. We could expect an official announcement from Realme soon.

The Google Play Console listing shows that the RMX3366 runs Qualcomm SM8250 aka Snapdragon 870 SoC coupled with Adreno 650 GPU. It is expected to come with 12GB of RAM. Further, it would feature a display having a resolution of 1080×2400 with a pixel density of 480ppi. It will be running Android 11 with RealmeUI 2.0 skin.

Last month, Realme announced that the GT Master Explorer Edition crossed 100 million Yuan worth of sales (~15 million US Dollars) in just one second.

The Realme GT Master Explorer Edition features a 6.55-inch FHD AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Further, the display comes with support for HDR10+ and offers a peak brightness of 1100+ nits. It is powered by Snapdragon 870 SoC paired with either 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal memory. The smartphone also offers 7GB of virtual RAM. It comes with a 4,500mAh battery pack with 65W fast charging support.

In the optics department, the GT Master Explorer Edition sports a triple camera setup on the back. The pack is led by a 50MP camera coupled with a 16MP ultrawide and 2MP macro camera. On the front, it has a 32MP camera for selfies housed inside the punch-hole cutout. 

As of now, Realme GT Master Explorer Edition is only available in China. The base variant of Realme GT Master Edition with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage retails for 2,799 Yuan (~430 US Dollars). Meanwhile, the model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage can be purchased for 3,099 Yuan (~476 US Dollars).

Which one is better depends on your personal tastes. I personally prefer the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition due to its curved edge to edge display and a more compact body.

Display

The displays of Realme GT Master Explorer Edition and iQOO 7 are more or less at the same level, that is the reason why we recommend you to focus on the other specifications while reading this comparison. They are Super AMOLED panels with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, very high peak brightness, and the Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the GT. The only important difference regards the dimensions: Realme GT Master Explorer Edition has a 6.55-inch curved display, while iQOO 7 has a flat 6.62-inch display. Both the phones feature stereo speakers and an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

The Chinese variant of the iQOO 7 is a more powerful device than its rival because it packs a stronger chipset: the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform which is the best by Qualcomm if we exclude the Snapdragon 888 Plus. The Realme GT Master Explorer Edition has the weaker Snapdragon 870, but a lot of people prefer the 870 over the 888 because of its better management of energy consumption. In both cases, you get up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. The internal storage is not expandable. The handsets run Android 11 with a highly customized user interface on top.

Camera

Each of these devices is a pretty nice camera phone, but they have their pro and cons. The Realme GT Master Explorer Edition has a better main camera: the Sony IMX766 with a 50 MP resolution and OIS. The iQOO 7 has OIS as well, but with an inferior main camera. On the other hand, the iQOO 7 has a telephoto lens that is not present on the GT, which supports 2x optical zoom. Instead, the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition has a better 16 MP ultrawide camera and a better 32 MP front camera.

Battery

The iQOO 7 supports the fastest commercial charging technology with a power of 120W, but the battery is below average in terms of capacity: 4000 mAh. The Realme GT Master Explorer features a bigger 4500 mAh battery and a still fast charging technology with a power of 65W.

Price

The iQOO 7 starts from about €480/$563 in China, while Realme GT Master Explorer Edition is priced at €458/$538 in its base variant. Both are amazing phones with an incredibly high value for money, recommended for gamers and power users. Which one should you pick? I personally prefer the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition because it features a bigger battery, a better main camera, and a better front camera. The Realme GT 5G will be launching on Aug. 18 in India. The company will be also announcing the Realme GT Master Edition alongside it. A fresh report by Digit India that cites popular tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer as its source reveals that the Master Edition phone will be arriving in a special color in the country.

Realme announced the Realme GT Master Edition and Realme GT Master Explorer Edition in China last month. Among these, only the GT Master Edition is slated to release in India and European markets in the coming weeks. The new report claims that Realme has crossed 100 million global sales in just 37 months earlier this week. In order to celebrate its achievement, the company will be launching the Realme GT Master Edition in a special orange variant in India and Europe.

As can be seen in the leaked shot, the dark orange variant seems to be sporting a leather back with ribbed textures like that of a suitcase. A badge with “celebrating with 100M fans” can be seen towards the bottom of the back panel. What is surprising is that the device that resembles the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition. Hence, there is a possibility that the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition may get rebranded as the Realme GT Master Edition in India and Europe.

The Realme GT Master Edition has a 6.43-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display, whereas the GT Master Explorer Edition has a 6.55-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz screen. Both handsets have an in-screen fingerprint scanner. While the GT Master features a Snapdragon 778G chip and a 4,300mAh battery, the GT Master Explorer Edition has a Snapdragon 870 SoC and a 4,500mAh battery. Both models support 65 fast charging.

These devices have up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. Both are fitted with a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. It also features 10240 levels of brightness adjustments and up to 1100 nits of peak brightness. Overall, this is a flagship-grade display in 2021.
As for the cameras, the new Master Explorer edition model features a capable IMX766 50MP primary shooter, the same as the Find X3 Pro. This CMOS sensor is a class above others in the same price range. The samples from the main camera are going to be sharp and saturated. However, the 16MP ultra-wide angle sensor is rather average for this price segment. 

Coming to the main hardware, the Realme GT Master Explorer Edition gets the second-best processor in 2021. In many ways, Snapdragon 870 could be the chipset of choice this year because of its better thermal management, so you can expect top-notch performance from this device. Other notable features include stereo speakers and Z-axis linear motor for solid vibration feedback. The devices will be available for grabs at 4 PM (local time) for those who registered for the Early Acces sale. Pre-orders will be opened post that, followed by the first open sale on July 27. The realme GT Master Explorer Edition customers will be eligible for a flat ¥100 ($15) discount for a limited time.

There’s no official word on the phone’s availability outside mainland China. However, it may launch at least in India.

Realme is all set to announce the Realme GT Master Edition series on July 21 in China. Recent reports have revealed that the lineup will have two phones such as GT Master Edition and GT Explorer Master Edition. Today, the company confirmed that the latter will come equipped with the Snapdragon 870 chip.

China’s TENAA certification database has two new Realme phones such as Realme RMX3366 and RMX3361. A recent leak by OnLeaks revealed that the RMX3366 will be the GT Explorer Master Edition model, while the latter will be the GT Master Edition phone.

The RMX3366’s TENAA listing that was spotted last month revealed that it is equipped with a 3.2GHz octa-core processor. Later, multiple leaks claimed that the device could be equipped with the Snapdragon 870. Today, the company finally confirmed that the phone will indeed feature the SD870 chip. The image shared by the company shows the phone sporting a dual-curved edge display with a punch-hole design.

While it is not confirmed yet, the RMX3361 is likely to arrive as Realme’s first phone powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset. The RMX3366 and RMX3366 are packed with different specs and there is some difference in the design of both devices as in can be seen below.

The Realme RMX3361 has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display that offers a Full HD+ resolution. It is powered by a 2,100mAh (rated capacity) dual-cell battery. Its total capacity could be 4,200mAh (rated value). The device is fueled by a 2.4GHz octa-core and is expected to arrive in China in RAM variants like 6 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB.

The RMX3361 may arrive in storage options like 128 GB and 256 GB. The device will boot to Android 11 OS and will lack support for external storage. It has a selfie camera of 32-megapixel, and its back panel is fitted with a 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera unit.

The other features of the Realme RMX3361 include an in-screen fingerprint scanner and support for fast charging. The handset has 159.2 x 73.5 x 8mm dimensions and weighs 174 grams. It will arrive in white, blue, and gray color variants.

It also revealed that the device may come in three variants such as 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB. These models may cost 349 euros (~$411), 399 euros (~$470), and 449 euros (~$529), respectively.

Today, a Chinese tipster claimed that there will be two variants of the smartphone.

According to the tipster, Realme will be announcing the Realme GT Explorer Edition alongside the GT Master Edition. This seems to be in line with a recent leak that claimed that the company may announce another variant of the phone. Unfortunately, he did not share specific details of the Explorer Edition. Xiaomi launched a couple of Explorer Edition phones with a translucent back. Probably, the GT Master Explorer Edition could be a similar offering from Realme.

Realme is expected to release teasers of the GT Master Edition one week in advance before its official announcement. Probably, the company may roll out its first teasers in the next few days and announce them by the end of the month. Another tipster has also hinted Realme GT Master Edition may debut by month-end. A recent report claimed that Realme’s first laptop called Realme Book may debut alongside the GT Master models.
