Xiaomi has an EOS (End of Support) product list on its official website. Every once in a while, the company updates this list with older devices.

At the end of February, the firm made changes to the list. It added four more smartphones to this huge list. One of them was a quite popular phone of its time.

The handset we are talking about is Redmi Note 8. Apart from this device, Xiaomi has also suspended software support for Redmi Note 8T, Redmi 8A Dual, and Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition.

Redmi Note 8

Almost all of the aforementioned phones were released in early 2020. We expected Xiaomi to drop software support for them as some of the initial models in these lineups faced the same in late December.

Throughout their official software support period, Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition, Redmi Note 8, and Redmi Note 8T received two Android updates. But being an entry-level smartphone, the Redmi 8A Dual got only one Android update.

Out of these four handsets, the Redmi Note 8 was arguably the hottest product of its time worldwide. It was the first Redmi Note series device to offer a quad-camera setup.

Above all, it was priced very competitively. Unfortunately, it was the last Redmi Note lineup phone to offer great value for its asking price. That’s because the COVID-19 global pandemic soon followed and the entire smartphone market changed in the following years.

The Chinese smartphone maker revealed that it has shipped over 200 million units of Redmi Note series phones globally to date. This data is sourced from the firm’s own ‘Xiaomi Data Center’.

It is not surprising to learn that the global shipments of the Redmi Note series have exceeded 200 million units since its inception. This series has been the heart of Xiaomi’s product lineup ever since it was introduced.

Redmi Notes have been unbeatable in their price segment for a very long time. However, that began to change when realme entered the scene. But being an established product lineup, they are still as popular as they were before.

That said, Xiaomi is known for announcing its milestones ahead of releasing new devices. Hence, we think the Redmi Note 10 series is just around the corner. The upcoming series is reported to include two models, namely Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro.
Design

Do you prefer having a better overall look or the most premium materials? If the first option is your favorite one, then go for the Realme 6. With its punch-hole display and its reflective glass back, it looks very gorgeous to be just a midrange phone. But if you prefer having better materials, choose the Redmi Note 8T since it is the only with a glass back. I am not a fan of the design of the Samsung Galaxy M21 due to its huge camera module and its more anonymous plastic body. Note that only the Realme 6 offers protection against water, it is splash resistant.

Display

The real battle is between the Samsung Galaxy M21 and Realme 6. The former should offer a more interesting color reproduction thanks to its AMOLED display boasting more vivid colors and deeper blacks. On the other hand, the latter offers a smoother user experience with a high 90 Hz refresh rate and a 120 Hz touch-sampling rate. That is why Realme 6 is a better choice for gamers. Do you prefer a display with explosive colors or a smooth one?

Redmi Note 8T has an IPS display with a Full HD+ resolution just like the ones you can find on most of the affordable mid-range phones. None of these devices features an in-display fingerprint scanner: the Realme 6 has a side-mounted one, while the others have a rear-mounted biometric sensor.

Specs & Software

Realme 6 is much better than Samsung Galaxy M21 and Redmi Note 8T if we talk about hardware. It has a stronger Helio G90T chipset which boasts very high CPU and GPU performance. It is not a flagship-class processor, but it is an upper-midrange SoC on a phone sold at a very affordable price. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy M21 comes with the most efficient chipset which, paired with a huge battery, will guarantee a low energy consumption and a very long battery life. Redmi Note 8T runs Android 9 Pie out of the box, while Samsung Galaxy M21 and Realme 6 are based on Android 10.

Camera

On the paper, the best camera setup belongs to Realme 6. It is equipped with a quad camera including a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, a dedicated macro camera, and a depth sensor. Samsung Galaxy M21 is supposed to be better at selfies with its 20 MP camera, but it also comes with a better 5 MP depth sensor. However, we have doubts about the photo quality of the primary sensor. On the paper, Redmi Note 8T is supposed to be more or less at the same level as the Samsung Galaxy M21 and it is inferior to the Realme 6.

Battery

The huge 6000 mAh battery of the Samsung Galaxy M21 not only makes it the winner of this comparison but also one of the best battery phones ever. Right after, there should be Realme 6 with its 4300 mAh battery.

Price

You can find the Redmi Note 8T in India for less than Rs. 11,000 / €135, Realme 6 is priced Rs. 13,990 / €172, and Samsung Galaxy M21 starts from Rs. 12,999 / €160. With its better chipset, cameras and a 90 Hz display, Realme 6 is definitely a more interesting handset and we pick it as the winner of this comparison. Redmi Note 8T is cheaper and offers a higher value for money, but it can not compete with its opponents when it comes to specifications (even though it is the only with NFC and a glass back). Samsung Galaxy M21 has an AMOLED display and a way bigger battery, so we think certain users may prefer it to the Realme 6.

But it currently has a lot of competition and, despite its predecessor was a best-seller, this does not mean it is the best option you can choose, as it depends on your needs. Here, we compared the Redmi Note 8T with two handsets we believe to be among the best options in the midrange segment: Realme 5 Pro and Huawei Nova 5z. Both are complete midrange devices with well-balanced specifications, just like the Redmi Note 8T: but which one should you go for? Let’s try to find it out together.

Design

In my opinion, the design is one of the strongest points of the Huawei Nova 5z for a single reason: the punch-hole display. With the Nova 5z, you can say goodbye to notches and get a full borderless display with a hole including the front camera. Further, the Huawei Nova 5z is a more compact smartphone due to its slightly smaller display, as well as a lighter device. The Redmi Note 8T and the Realme 5 Pro come with similar aesthetics, both have a reflective glass back, plastic frames and a waterdrop display. In each case, you get a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

Display

Redmi Note 8T, Realme 5 Pro and Huawei Nova 5z come with similar display sizes as well as the IPS technology. But the Huawei Nova 5z offers a slightly better quality due to its higher DCI P3 coverage and more. It is not something you can clearly notice, but even a slight difference is always appreciated on a smartphone’s display. Unfortunately, none of these devices has an AMOLED display, so you do not even get an in-display fingerprint reader, as said above. The important difference is the punch-hole design found on the Huawei Nova 5z, instead of the classic waterdrop displays of the Redmi Note 8T and Realme 5 Pro.

Specs & Software

Huawei released an amazing midrange chipset this year, and it is on board of the Huawei Nova 5z. We are talking about Kirin 810: it is very powerful and it is built on the 7 nm production process just like flagship chipsets. But despite the amazing SoC, I would not choose the Huawei Nova 5z for a simple reason: memory configurations. I would go for the most expensive configuration of the Realme 5 Pro with Snapdragon 712 since it boasts 8 GB of RAM and an internal storage you can expand with a micro SD, instead of choosing the Huawei Nova 5z and getting less RAM. Redmi Note 8T is inferior to both Realme 5 Pro and Huawei Nova 5z since it mounts a Snapdragon 665 chipset. In each case, you get Android 9 Pie out of the box.

Camera

If we talk about rear cameras, you get more or less the same camera department with each of these devices. They include a primary 48 MP sensor, an ultrawide lens, a dedicated macro camera, and a depth sensor. Huawei Nova 5z has worse specifications for the additional sensors, so Redmi Note 8T and Realme 5 Pro should be slightly better in a lot of scenarios. But Huawei Nova 5z is way superior when it comes to selfies, thanks to its 32 MP front camera. Redmi Note 8T is nothing special for taking selfies, while Realme 5 Pro sits in the middle.

Battery

Battery capacities are similar on all of these devices, so expect a similar battery life. Huawei Nova 5z has a more efficient chipset, so it should offer a longer battery life in a lot of scenarios. However, we still did not test all of these devices thoroughly, so we still can not give you a final verdict. Note that Huawei Nova 5z and Realme 5 Pro have a slightly faster charging technology.

Price

Each of these devices can be purchased with a €199/$220 price tag, but who is the best? In my opinion Huawei Nova 5z due to its punch-hole display, better selfie camera, and amazing chipset, but not for every kind of user. Some may prefer the Realme 5 Pro due to its splash resistance or Redmi Note 8T due to the NFC connectivity. In all cases, you get only marginal differences and all of these devices are great.

Just as the Redmi Note 7S with better cameras was made official as a replacement for the Redmi Note 7 that had gone official at the beginning of the year in India. It is speculated that the Chinese manufacturer may replace the existing Redmi Note 8 with Note 8T phone. Last week, the Redmi Note 8T was found listed on Giztop with a price tag of $179. The smartphone is now available on Powerplanetonline.com Spanish retailer site.

Redmi Note 8T Pricing

The Spanish retailer site is selling the global variant of the Redmi Note 8T phone. The handset is only available in 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage version with a price tag of 199.94 euros. The Gray color edition is available for purchase whereas users can register with their email address to know on the arrival of the Blue variant of the phone.

Redmi Note 8T Specifications

The Redmi Note 8T has a 6.3-inch display that supports full HD+ resolution. The waterdrop notch enabled screen offers 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Snapdragon 665 mobile platform powers the smartphone.

The rear side of the phone has 48-mgeapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad camera system. The handset is equipped with a 4,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The MIUI 10 based Android 9 Pie comes preinstalled on the device.

NFC is one feature that differentiates the Redmi Note 8T from the Note 8. The Redmi Note 8T global edition is listed for $199 on Giztop. It is also 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage version of the phone in Gray color. With a coupon, its priced can be further slashed to $179.

Xiaomi later announced a new version for India with a 48MP + 5MP dual cameras and called it the Redmi Note 7S.

The Redmi Note 7S eventually replaced the Redmi Note 7 in the market even though it cost a bit more. However, those who bought the Redmi Note 7 were not happy as a phone they bought just a few months ago was replaced with one with better camera specs for a few extra dollars.

Redmi Note 8

A similar thing may happen with the Redmi Note 8 and the yet-to-be-announced Redmi Note 8T. Xiaomi is set to announce the Redmi Note 8T soon, which is practically a Redmi Note 8 with NFC support. Nothing more, nothing less.

While we do not know which markets will be getting the Redmi Note 8T, there is a possibility that production of the Redmi Note 8 may eventually cease and the Redmi Note 8T will take over.

The Redmi Note 8T is going to be available in markets outside China. While Xiaomi has not yet revealed which markets will be getting it, we have a few guesses. The Redmi Note 8 should be available in Europe in countries such as Spain and Italy where the Redmi Note 8 isn’t sold. NFC payment is widely used in the aforementioned countries, so it makes sense that Xiaomi will sell the devices there.

It has a waterdrop notch on its display and the chin of the device is slightly thick compared to other bezels. The Redmi branding can be seen in the bottom bezel like the Note 8 smartphone.

The Redmi Note 8T was previously rumored to arrive with Snapdragon 730G processor. However, considering the fact that its no design is not different from the Redmi Note 8, it is unlikely that the Note 8T will come with a better processor. Moreover, the leakster has maintained that the Redmi Note 8T is same phone as Note 8 and the only major difference is that the ‘T’ variant comes with NFC connectivity. It is advisable to wait for further leaks to know more about the phone.

Now fresh renders of the smartphone have appeared alongside the Redmi Note 8 smartphone to reveal its design.

In the below shown renders, the unannounced Redmi Note 8T can be seen on the left whereas the Redmi Note 8 is placed on the right. The placement of the vertical quad camera system, fingerprint scanner and Redmi branding on the Redmi Note 8T is identical with the Redmi Note 8.

The tipster who has shared the renders of the Redmi Note 8T has debunked the rumors that claimed that the device is fueled by SD730G. However, Redmi is yet to confirm on the existence of the Redmi Note 8T.
