Samsung released the Android 12-based One UI 4 beta update for the Galaxy S21 series smartphones and recently closed the program as the South Korean giant is now gearing up to launch a stable version.

Soon after closing the One UI 4 beta program for the Galaxy S21 series, the company opened it for its recently launched foldable smartphones. Now, it appears that the last year’s Galaxy S20 series phones are next in line to receive the new beta update.

A moderator of the Samsung Members forum has said that the company is preparing to soon open the Android 12-based One UI 4 beta program for the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra smartphones. This development was first reported by Tizenhelp.

Further, it has also been revealed that the One UI 3.1 with firmware version ending EUI4 would be the last software update based on the Android 11 operating system from the company for these smartphones.

While Samsung has not yet shared any details related to this, it’s safe to assume that the recruitment for beta testers for the One UI 4 for the Galaxy S20 lineup could start by the end of this month. It could be limited to select markets, including South Korea, China, Germany, India, the US, and the UK.

Once the program opens and starts recruiting beta testers, all the eligible users can log into the Samsung Members application and then tap on the One UI 4 beta enrollment button from the Notices page. After enrolling, the update should be available to download within a few minutes.

But is it really the best under every aspect or the previous devices released by the Korean giant still have something better to offer? Is it worth spending more on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or you can get all you need with the previous flagships? We will try to answer these questions through this specs comparison between the latest Samsung top-tier flagships: Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Design

In my opinion, the design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is more original and attractive. The camera design makes it more futuristic and it is also more compact than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, despite the latter is actually thinner and lighter. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is even more compact, but the design of its camera module is definitely less beautiful.

Display

The most advanced display is offered by the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra: there is not a huge difference if we compare it to the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra, but it is slightly better. Just like the Note 20 Ultra, even the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra supports the S Pen, while the S20 Ultra does not. All the phones come with an in-display fingerprint scanner, curved edges, and a punch-hole design.

Hardware/Software

In the European variant, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the S20 Ultra are powered by the same Exynos 990 chipset. But in the U.S. version, the situation is different since the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is fueled by the Snapdragon 865+, an upgrade of the Snapdragon 865 found on the S20 Ultra. But in each case, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra wins the hardware comparison thanks to even better chipsets: the Exynos 2100 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and S20 Ultra pack up to 16 GB of RAM, while you get a max of 12 GB with the Note 20 Ultra.

Camera

The worst camera phone of the trio is the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra due to inferior secondary sensors. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is actually better thanks to a 48 MP periscopic camera with 4x optical zoom and an additional TOF 3D sensor for depth calculation. But the Galaxy S21 Ultra wins the camera comparison with its 10x optical zoom.

Battery

Galaxy S21 Ultra provides the longest battery life, followed by the Galaxy S20 Ultra with the same 5000 mAh battery capacity. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a bit disappointing with its 4500 mAh battery. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has faster charging speeds. While you can actually find the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra for less than €1000/$900, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra are priced at more than €1000/$900 even if you look at online street prices. We do not recommend the Note 20 Ultra as its battery is not so satisfying and the S21 Ultra supports the S Pen too. You can go for the S20 Ultra if you want to save money, but you have to say goodbye to S Pen, the higher performance level offered by the S21 Ultra and 10x optical zoom.

Or you could go for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with its single punch hole. Note that iPhone 12 Pro Max features better water resistance as it can go up to 6 meters deep without damages.

Display

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the most advanced one on the paper as it features a Quad HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, two features you do not get on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. That is why Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra wins the display comparison. But you can actually get a better color reproduction on the iPhone 12 Pro Max which features a very bright OLED panel with Dolby Vision and a wide color gamut. Huawei Mate 40 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max support 3D facial recognition for authentication, while Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra relies on an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader.

Hardware and Software

With the iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can actually get better performance thanks to the iOS operating system. But the Huawei Mate 40 Pro actually comes with the best hardware including a Kirin 9000 5G chipset built at 5 nm which is even more powerful than the Apple A14 Bionic. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has older Exynos 990 and Snapdragon 865 chipsets built at 7 nm, so, despite its huge amount of RAM (up to 12 GB), it loses the hardware comparison. Note that you do not get Google services on the global version of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro due to the U.S. ban.

Camera

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro takes the first place in the camera comparison. It comes with a 50 MP main camera with omnidirectional autofocus and laser autofocus, as well as a periscope sensor with 5x optical zoom and an ultrawide sensor. The iPhone 12 Pro Max comes right after, but the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is more or less at the same level as the iPhone 12 Pro Max with its 108 MP camera.

Battery

Despite the 5000 mAh battery of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro has a longer battery life thanks to more efficient components: a 5 nm chipset and a display with a lower resolution. Further, it has the fastest charging technology and the fastest wireless charging technology. The battery life of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is close to the Mate 40 Pro.

Price

The prices of these three devices vary depending on the market, but in each case, you need more than €1000 to get them. If you can deal with the lack of Google services, Huawei Mate 40 Pro is a more interesting option than Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra due to its battery life, charging technologies, better hardware. But the iPhone 12 Pro Max actually comes with a more compact design, better display, great performance, and specifications close to the Mate 40 Pro. If iOS is not a problem for you, it looks like a very interesting choice.

A couple of weeks back Samsung rolled out a Public beta of One UI 3.0 in South Korea. Now, the company is rolling out the new beta version of the UI to signed-up users of the Galaxy S20 series in China, and India.

A report from Sammobile shows a first beta version of One UI 3.0 with firmware G98x0ZCU2ZTJG. The firmware version is for the Galaxy S20 series devices that have signed up for beta in China. This includes the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. Also, a beta version with firmware version G98xFXXU5ZTJF is rolling out to Indian users as well. As promised, the beta is live in other countries like the United States, South Korea, United Kingdom, Poland,  and Germany.

Further, the report says that the firmware version for China is same as the US. It is obviously based on Android 11, packs in October 1, 2020, Android Security patch, and Knox 3.7. And, it reportedly fixes bugs identified in the earlier release.

Also, the update is expected to arrive soon for devices like Galaxy Note 20 series, and S20 FE across the regions. Samsung confirmed the OneUI 3.0 based on Android 11 back at the event on August 5. The beta program began after the initial developer build and is now covered to almost all the countries as promised earlier. The public version will reportedly roll out before 2020 ends.

Besides, OneUI 3.0 has quite an overhaul from the earlier version apart from carrying the Android 11 features. The changes include Accessibility, Contacts, Bixby routine, Digital wellbeing, revamp to Home, Lock screen. And AOD features, revamped screenshots, and more.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra at its Unpacked event yesterday: it is a great handset and it brings a lot of new features to the shelves, but not all of its specifications are superior to its predecessor Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. This does not mean that the S20 Ultra is better than the Note 20 Ultra, but it depends on the kind of user you are if you are looking for a new flagship. This specs comparison will highlight all the main differences between Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and, hopefully, it will let you understand which one is better for your needs.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G

Design

Under the design point of view, despite being more productivity-oriented Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G wins the battle. It has a higher screen-to-body ratio and it comes in a wonderful matte color variant called Mystic Bronze which I consider definitely more beautiful than all the color variants of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Even the camera module is more elegant, and the build quality is higher. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra features the new Gorilla Glass Victus protection by Corning allowing it to survive to drops up to 2 meters on hard surfaces. Both the phones are waterproof with the IP68 certification. Despite the presence of a slot for the S Pen, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is thinner and lighter than Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Display

There are only marginal differences when it comes to display quality, so we are not focusing too much on it. But there is an important difference which will make productivity users go for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: the S Pen support. With the S Pen, you can handwrite and draw with a very high accuracy thanks to an active digitizer for the stylus, you can remotely control the smartphone via Bluetooth and you can even perform air gestures. The dedicated physical key of the S Pen also allows shooting photos remotely. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is slightly wider since the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a taller aspect ratio.

Specs & Software

In the Snapdragon version, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra actually offers a better chipset than the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. It is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ which offers a 10% boost in CPU and GPU performance, compared to the Snapdragon 865 found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. But in the Exynos version (the one sold in the European market), Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S20 Ultra have exactly the same SoC: Exynos 990. EU customers are disappointed: some of them even opened class actions against the Exynos 990 on the S20 Ultra, yet Samsung decided to keep the processor on the Note 20 Ultra without even releasing an upgrade. Both the phone runs Android 10 out of the box, but the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with more productivity features such as wireless DeX and deep integration with Microsoft services.

Camera

The camera department of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is superior to the one of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Both the phones come with the same 108 MP main sensor, but the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a better periscope camera with a 48 MP resolution, as well as a better front camera with a 40 MP resolution. With the Galaxy S20 Ultra, you even get an additional 0.3 MP ToF 3D camera which is not present on the Note 20 Ultra.

Battery

The battery of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is bigger and that means it offers a longer battery life, given that the two phones come with the same software and similar specifications. Despite being bigger, it still charges faster thanks to a faster charging technology (45W power against 25W of the Note 20 Ultra).

Price

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a starting price of €1329 in Europe and $1300 in the U.S., while Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra starts from €1349/$1150, but it is actually a lot more affordable thanks to street prices. If you are a productivity user and you prefer having the S Pen, then the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is actually a better option. Otherwise, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is a superior phone due to better cameras and longer battery life. Note that in the Exynos version it has the same hardware and similar display to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, while in the Snapdragon version, it has a slightly better processor.

Top tier flagships became incredibly expensive but also incredibly powerful. Unlike 2019, this year, Samsung and Huawei launched three variants of their flagship lineups. The most expensive variants are the Huawei P40 Pro+ (which just hitten several European markets) and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Meanwhile, Motorola is back in the flagship segment after years of silence with its Motorola Edge+. All of these devices carry a price tag superior to €1,000, but are they worth the money asked? And which one should you prefer? We will try to answer these questions through the following specs comparison between Huawei P40 Pro+, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, and Motorola Edge+.

Huawei P40 Pro+ vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra vs Motorola Edge+

Design

If I had to make a choice by considering the design only, I would go for the Motorola Edge+. First of all, it has a higher screen-to-body ratio. It is more compact and its rear side is more elegant due to its smaller camera module. But several people may not agree with me because Huawei P40 Pro+ comes with more unique and premium materials (it is made of ceramic). Further, unlike the Motorola Edge+ which is just splash resistant, Huawei P40 Pro+ is waterproof with the IP68 certification. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra should be sturdier thanks to its waterproof certification (IP68) and the Gorilla Glass 6 protection for both front and back glasses, but its dimensions are big, just like its camera module.

Display

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra provides the most impressive display: not only it is wider with its 6.9-inch diagonal, but it also supports a higher 120 Hz refresh rate, despite you can only use it by setting a Full HD+ resolution. The Dynamic AMOLED display of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has the HDR10+ certification and a high Quad HD+ resolution, while Huawei P40 Pro+ and Motorola Edge+ stop at Full HD+. Currently, we believe the only displays which can compete with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra in the Android world belong to OPPO Find X2 Pro and OnePlus 8 Pro.

Hardware/Software

The Motorola Edge+ has the most interesting hardware department because it is fueled by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform which has currently no rivals among Android phones. On the other hand, while providing a less powerful chipset, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes in a variant with a higher amount of RAM and internal storage: 16 GB and 512 GB respectively. Motorola Edge+ only comes in a configuration with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage, while Huawei P40 Pro+ stops at 8 GB of RAM. Note that if you get the global version of the Huawei P40 Pro+, you won’t get Google services out of the box due to the U.S. ban.

Camera

The most amazing camera (and not only of this comparison) is on board of the Huawei P40 Pro+. It features a 50 MP Penta-camera (the fifth sensor is a TOF 3D sensor) including 10x optical zoom and a 40 MP ultrawide lens. Further, on the front side, the 32 MP selfie snapper is accompanied by another TOF sensor for 3D facial recognition. The silver medal goes to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offering a 108 MP quad camera with a 48 MP periscope lens, 4x optical zoom supporting 8K video recording, and awesome stabilization.

Battery

Since it packs a huge 5000 mAh battery and a less energy-demanding display than Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Motorola Edge+ is more satisfying in terms of battery life. However, the Motorola Edge+ has slower charging speeds (just 18W with wired charging and 15W with wireless charging), while Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro+ charge at 40W and 45W, respectively.

Price

Huawei P40 Pro+ is priced €1399 globally, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra starts from $1199/€1099, and Motorola Edge+ costs $1199/€1200. Is it worth getting one of these handsets? Well, if you need an astonishing camera quality or you are a power user, then yes. But if you do not want the max you can get, there are a lot of more affordable devices that will let you save a lot of money while still giving you nearly perfect user experience.

Despite Huawei P40 Pro+ does not have Google services, it remains a very impressive phone due to its ceramic design, better cameras, and very fast wireless charging technologies. Samsung unveiled its next-generation Galaxy S-series flagship smartphones — Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra in February this year. It’s been around two months since the smartphones went on sale.

Now, as per the reports, the new Galaxy S20 series isn’t performing well in terms of sales. They are said to be significantly less popular than its predecessors, at least in the United States as the sales are lagging behind the Galaxy S10 series and Galaxy S9 series at the same number of weeks after launch.

The report coming from M Science reveals that the sales of Galaxy S10 were roughly 400,000 and for Galaxy S9 it was around 500,000 weekly during the second week after the launch. It also adds that the sales consistently maintained 200,000 units weekly throughout the first ten weeks of sales.

On the other hand, the new Galaxy S20 lineup fails to even surpass the 200,000 weekly units sale mark during its best week. The sales have consistently remained below 100,000 mark since the fourth week of sales, although it reported a slight growth in sales last week.

It is believed that this is because of two reasons — 5G and pricing. With buyers being forced to use 5G technology at a premium price even though there’s no proper 5G infrastructure available in the country. However, the reports credits Samsung in boosting the sales of 5G smartphones in the United States. Since the launch of Galaxy S20 series, there’s a growth in sale of 5G-compatible devices and it now accounts of 20 percent of units sold.

It remains to be seen what Samsung does to boost up sales of the Galaxy S20 series. The company could see an uptick in this department as it gears up to launch Galaxy Note 20 series and with the launch of Apple iPhone 12 series later this year, depending on the pricing of both these series.

It looks like there is no full stop for Galaxy S20 Ultra problems. The users of the Exynos version are facing several issues with performance, heating, and battery. Now, dozens of users are flocking on Samsung US Community reporting shattering of camera glass.

The breaking of camera glass on Galaxy S20 Ultra is occurring for no apparent reason. Users have been reporting it ever since the phone started shipping. Most of the users with shattered camera glass claim to be using a good quality case as well as have never dropped their device once.

Some users mention the issue starts as a hairline crack on the glass deteriorating the camera’s ability to zoom. Whereas, others allege the glass to break just like that leaving a hole. Since Samsung has not yet responded to the problem as it does not seem to be widespread enough yet, customers will have to shell out their money to fix the glass.

As far as fares are concerned, users with Samsung Premium Care will be charged $100 when compared to $400 for those without it. That is a hefty amount to pay for the damage that happened by itself after buying the phone for $1400 or above.

Additionally, most service centres around the world are closed due to lockdown issued by the governments to fight the coronavirus outbreak. Hence, a few set of users are left with a broken premium smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is only available in two color options namely ‘Cosmic Grey’ and ‘Cosmic Black’. But now, it is getting a new paint job called ‘Cosmic White’, however, it is only limited to China for now. It is uncertain if this variant will be ever made available in other regions at the moment.

The new white color edition of Galaxy S20 Ultra is similar to the exclusive ‘Cloud White’ Galaxy S20 available in South Korea, Spain and the US (Verizon) but without gradient. It resembles classic white Samsung smartphones of the past and is expected to be free of smudges because of its color. 

Unfortunately, this variant is exclusive for China and there’s no word on if or ever it will make it to other markets. If it does, this version of Galaxy S20 Ultra is definitely worth looking at unless Samsung sells Exynos 990-powered units in your region.

Also, it is worth noting that Galaxy S20 Ultra ‘Cosmic White’ is only available in 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM storage configuration. Apart from the new exterior look, it is exactly the same phone that Samsung unveiled in February.

Samsung launched its Galaxy S20 Ultra flagship smartphone a couple of months ago and since its official launch, the device has seen a fair share of issues, including display color tint, autofocus, performance, heating, and battery.

However, the South Korean company has now fixed the issue which produced a green color tint on the smartphone’s display through a new software update. Samsung was aware of the issue and was working on a fix since past couple of weeks.

It remains to be seen if the update also fixes other Galaxy S20 Ultra issues. Users have complained about slower focusing of the camera, heating issues with the 4G model, and poor performance of the phone as well as battery on the Exynos 990-powered model.

The new update, which carries the build number G98xBXXU1ATD3 is the one that comes with the fix for the green-hue tint. The update is now rolling out in Germany, but it is expected to arrive soon for all the Galaxy S20 Ultra users.

While it is understandable that a smartphone may face some issues but having so many issues for a flagship smartphone, that too when the device is priced at around $1,400 is simply not acceptable from the world’s leasing smartphone company.

Recently, DXOMark revealed its camera review for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and it is nowhere near the leading Huawei P40 Pro in terms of ranking. With a score of 122 points, the device has been ranked at sixth position.

Expectations ran high last week when DXOMark revealed it would release its review of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra camera this week. Indeed, the organisation has published the Galaxy S20 Ultra camera review on its website and it is a disappointing one. The Samsung flagship was nowhere near the Huawei P40 Pro in ranking but came ain’t a distant sixth position.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra was launched in March and since then te Korean tech giant has released a couple of firmware updates aimed at improving the camera’s performance. That obviously didn’t make much of a difference as the camera is ranked behind the Huawei P40 Pro, Honor 30 Pro+, Oppo Find X2 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G.

The review isn’t all negative as the Samsung flagship’s camera still excelled in some aspects. It scored a very high 132 for its photos but was let down by its 102 video score for a total camera result of 122, which puts it in joint sixth place along with the Honor V30 Pro.

DxOMark also extols the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s lively colours, wide dynamic range and tout it as having nearly the best noise control in the industry. The S20 Ultra’s ultrawide camera was adjudged to be class-leading. The device, however, faltered in the performance of its autofocus in low light. This is said to be slower than the competition. The dynamic range wasn’t as good as that of the P40 Pro even though it was wide. Also, the sharpness was slightly behind that of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro which outputs higher-res 25MP images). Further, the zoom shots were noted to have some artefacts.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 series in February 2020. This year, the company introduced a new high-end model dubbed as Galaxy S20 Ultra, which is the costliest Galaxy S series phone released so far. This device has now received the DxOMark audio test treatment and scored an above-average 69 points similar to last year’s ASUS ROG Phone 2.

Going by the overall points scored by the Galaxy S20 Ultra in DxOMark audio test, it falls behind the likes of Apple iPhone Xs Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, and even Huawei Mate 20 X. However, it edges the company’s own Galaxy Note 10 Plus from 2019.

As per DxOMark, the S20 Ultra performs above-average but it’s nothing extraordinary for a phone costing $1400. The speakers on the phone deliver precision and clarity in both mid-range and high-end frequencies. And thus they produce sound with accurate distance rendering, precise localizability, and good wideness. 

Also, the phone handles maximum volume and artifacts smoothly without any issue. However, the balance of the audio played is off-center and there is a lack of intelligibility in high dynamic content at minimum volumes. Additionally, the bass frequencies are lower compared to iPhone 11 Pro Max and Mi 10 Pro. 

In the recording, the phone does not perform as good as in playback. The sound picked up in selfie videos lacks high-end frequencies and thus it is poor in distance rendering and localizability. Further, the attack and blurred envelope of the sound recorded make the backgrounds as well as voice sound unnatural and nasal respectively.

In loud environments, aggressive low-end compression kicks in which affects the punch and produces audible temporal artifacts. Lastly, the timbre performance is good, dynamics are modest at best, and loudness is poor indoors

2020 seems to be the year of top-end flagships. Unlike last year, both Samsung and Huawei released three variants in their latest flagship line-ups, and the third variant is a top-tier flagship without compromises. We are referring to Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro+ which offer much more than the usual Pro and Plus versions. Oppo decided to launch a new flagship from its most advanced series: the Oppo Find X2 Pro, which comes with maxed out specifications as well. Currently, I consider these three devices as the best smartphones actually available in terms of specs sheet. But which one is the very best on the paper? This comparison will help you find out.

Huawei P40 Pro+ vs Oppo Find X2 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

Design

The huge camera modules found on Huawei P40 Pro+ and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra do not make them the most elegant smartphones out there. Oppo did a definitely better job with the design. The Oppo Find X2 Pro comes in two amazing color variants made of different materials: Vegan Leather Orange and Ceramic Black. The leather variant is unique and impressive, with an amazing touch & feel. Huawei P40 Pro+ has a ceramic body as well, while Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is made of glass and aluminum like most of the flagships. All these phones are waterproof with the IP68 certification.

Display

On the paper, Oppo Find X2 Pro looks the most awesome device in terms of display quality. It has a high Quad HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a 240 Hz touch-sampling rate, as well as the support to HDR10 and complete DCI-P3 gamut. The Find X2 Pro is a device with a 10-bit screen that can display one billion colors; simply amazing. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 120 Hz display as well, but it only supports the high refresh rate with the Full HD resolution. The display is not the strongest point of the Huawei P40 Pro+ which comes with a lower resolution and just a 90 Hz refresh rate.

Hardware/Software

If we consider the variant sold in the U.S. with Snapdragon 865, in its most expensive configuration, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra packs the most powerful hardware with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. With just 8 GB of RAM and an inferior Kirin 990 chipset, Huawei P40 Pro+ loses the battle, while Oppo Find X2 Pro sits in the middle. But the European version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is fueled by a different and inferior chipset: the Exynos 990 is not only less performing than the Snapdragon 865, but it does not even support mmWave 5G technology. It supports 5G connectivity, but only in sub-6 GHz frequencies. With all of these handsets, you get Android 10 out of the box, but Huawei P40 Pro+ does not have Google services and apps.

Camera

Huawei P40 Pro+ has just been announced and we still had no chance to test its camera department, but on the paper, it looks the most convincing one. Huawei P40 Pro+ is the first phone with a 10x optical zoom and it has an amazing 50 MP main sensor with omnidirectional PDAF. It even comes with triple OIS and an awesome 40 MP ultrawide lens. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra might be right below the Huawei P40 Pro+ with its impressive 108 MP main camera supported by a 48 MP periscope lens. While Huawei P40 Pro+ might provide a better photo quality, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra may be a lot better than Huawei P40 Pro+ when it comes to video recording due to its advanced stabilization technology and 8K support. But do not underestimate Oppo Find X2 Pro which currently leads DxOMark’s ranking of the best camera phones (S20 Ultra and P40 Pro+ are still not in the ranking).

Battery

With its mammoth 5000 mAh battery, there is no doubt about the fact that Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra will provide a way longer battery life than its two rivals. Right after, there should be Huawei P40 Pro+ with a 4200 mAh battery. The Huawei P40 Pro+ also comes with the fastest wireless charging and reverse wireless charging technologies ever. Oppo Find X2 Pro does not support wireless charging, but it has the fastest wired charging technology bringing the battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 38 minutes.

Price

Huawei P40 Pro+ will carry a price of €1399/$1543 globally, Oppo Find X2 Pro will cost €1200/$1324, and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra starts from €1379/$1399. There is not a definitive winner of this comparison, even though we think a lot of people would go for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra if we do not consider the prices, due to its bigger battery, amazing cameras, and more. Oppo Find X2 Pro has a more affordable price, a better design and an amazing display, as well as the fastest charging technology. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offers a bigger battery and impressive cameras, as well as the best hardware in the Snapdragon 865 variant. Huawei P40 Pro+ comes with the most convincing cameras (but we are yet to establish if they are really superior cameras) and the best wireless charging technologies. Which one would you pick?

Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything fame has got his hands on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung‘s latest top-of-the-line 5G flagship model. We are already familiar with the routine – an unboxing/durability test video and then a teardown video revealing the internals. The Youtuber has now published a video of the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s durability test.

The video takes us through the various tests such as scratch, bend and heat test that should affirm if the device is a durable one or not. First off is the scratch test where the screen is tested using a Mohs pick to determine where the device lies in the Mohs hardness scale. The Galaxy S20 Ultra’s AMOLED screen began scratching at level six. The scratches become deeper at level seven which means the device can conveniently withstand scratches from objects inside the user’s pocket such as keys. However, sand particles are an exception as they contain minerals that can scratch above those levels.

The S20 Ultra is shown to have a metal frame which won’t break but will scratch easily. Zack also notes the absence of a front speaker grille at the top. The rear panel is also made from the same glass on the display and it extends to the camera hump. The phone’s buttons on the side are made from metal, making them equally durable.

The next test is the burn test where the display is made to go under the flame. The test underscores the impressive heat resistance which the Galaxy S20 Ultra offers. The screen came in contact with a naked flame and was unscathed but when held up for 30 seconds, the display got damaged. However, it recovers from the damage over time.

The final test was a bend test and even though the device bends slightly, there wasn’t any audible creaking or groans from the device and it only bends slightly. You can check out the YouTube video from down below.

Overall, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is a durable phone but as Zack Nelson noted repeatedly in his test, the device is not quite as durable as should be expected of a device that costs well over $1000.

Design

Oppo Find X2 Pro wins the design award without any doubt, at least according to us. Oppo employed very premium materials for the making of its latest flagship. The Oppo Find X2 Pro will be available in two versions: one made of ceramic (called Ceramic Black) and one with a vegan leather body (Vegan Leather Orange). Further, the Find X2 Pro is the first waterproof Oppo device boasting an IP68 certification. And its display has a very high screen-to-body ratio with extremely curved edges. Oppo Find X2 Pro is definitely the king of elegance and originality. Right after, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offers the most valid build quality, but its huge camera module on the rear side does not make it the device with the most attractive design. Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro looks more minimalistic, despite its build quality looks definitely inferior.

Display

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro loses the display comparison since it comes with a panel sporting a lower resolution and a lower refresh rate. On the paper, Oppo Find X2 Pro looks the most convincing one with its 10-bit panel showing one billion colors, a 120 Hz refresh rate, a QHD+ resolution, a nearly perfect color accuracy, and a very high brightness. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra retains the 120 Hz refresh rate, but it is only available with the Full HD+ resolution. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has the biggest panel with a 6.9-inch diagonal: while holding it, you would probably feel almost like holding a small tablet.

Hardware/Software

Oppo Find X2 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra are equipped with almost the same hardware departments (depending on the variant). They all come with a Snapdragon 865 bundled with a Snapdragon X55 5G modem and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage (note that the EU version of the Galaxy S20 Ultra has an Exynos 990 SoC), as well as Android 10 out of the box. But Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra offers something more: it is the only with a micro SD slot and, in its most expensive configuration, it offers 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM instead of 12 GB.

Camera

In each case, we are talking about top camera phones. Judging from the specs on the paper and from what we learned until now, Oppo Find X2 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro are more or less at the same level. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra looks like a device with slightly better camera hardware, but we still did not test its camera performance and algorithm thoroughly since it is still not available.

Battery

With a higher 5000 mAh capacity (but it is also a bigger phone), Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra will last more on a single charge. But with a 65W power, Oppo Find X2 Pro has the fastest charging technology. Last but not least, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro has the fastest wireless charging technology with a 30W power.

Price

We still do not know how much Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro will cost globally (in China it starts from about €660/$745), but we are sure that it will offer a similar experience to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra under many points of view at a fraction of the price. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra costs €1349 in Europe and $1389 in the U.S. while Oppo Find X2 Pro will cost €1199/$1353 globally. It is hard to choose a winner here, it mostly depends on the user’s needs. Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is definitely the inferior one due to its lower-end display and no water resistance. Unfortunately, Oppo Find X2 Pro lacks wireless charging, but it has the fastest charging technology, probably the best display, and an amazing design/build quality. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra looks like a perfect flagship on the paper, but it is big and very expensive. Which one would you go for?

Benchmarking app Master Lu has released the ranking of the top 10 mobile phones that was benchmarked on the app in the month of February 2020. The ranking is based on data collected between the period of February 1 and February 29, 2020, and only take into account smartphone models released within the month.

The list of shows that in the new smartphone performance list, the Samsung S20 series occupies the top three rankings. Among them, the Galaxy S20+ Ultra 5G came first with a total score of 518,184 points. The Galaxy S20 Plus follows closely with 481,541 points and the Galaxy S20 in third place with 481,246 points.

The fourth and fifth places are occupied by the Realme X50 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. In sixth place is the iQOO3, while the ZTE Axon 10s Pro and Mi 10 occupy the seventh and eighth spots. The Galaxy Z Flip and Huawei Mate Xs foldable flagship phones complete the top 10 rankings.

Most of the models on the list are powered by Qualcomm’ latest Snapdragon 865 chipset except the Galaxy Z Flip with a Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, the Mate Xs with Kirin 990, Vivo Z6 with Snapdragon 765G SOC and the Xperia 10 11 with a Snapdragon 665 chipset.

To recall, the Snapdragon 865 SoC integrates the Kryo 585 CPU, which consists of four large cores of A77 architecture and four small cores of A55 architecture. The chipset has a maximum frequency of up to 2.84GHz and integrates the latest Adreno 650 GPU. Also important to note is that all the models come with 5G support which is an indication that 5G phones will dominate this year. Already, the 5G supported phones have also extended to mid-range models with the launch of the Vivo Z6 with 5G support.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the top-end variant among the three models Samsung announced recently. One area where the S20 Ultra excels over the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus is the camera configuration. The Galaxy S20 Ultra’s camera system includes a huge 108-megapixel sensor and a periscope telephoto lens that Samsung claims can be used at up to 100x zoom. But early reviews of the S20 Ultra have shown that the camera isn’t all that impressive.

Reviews from publications such as PC Mag and Input have highlighted that the autofocus system is unreliable, often taking a long time to lock onto a subject and sometimes failing to do so. The Verge also confirms having similar issues on the unit. The camera also exhibits aggressive image processing in certain situations, with a tendency to excessively smooth out skin.

Samsung has now released a response, saying it’s working on an update to improve the camera, though it doesn’t acknowledge any specific problem or confirm when the fixes will be available. In a statement to the Verge, Samsung stated; “The Galaxy S20 features a groundbreaking, advanced camera system. We are constantly working to optimize performance to deliver the best experience for consumers. As part of this ongoing effort, we are working on a future update to improve the camera experience.”

Apart from the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus cameras have also received some knocks for being promoted as having a telephoto lens when in reality it didn’t.

This year the latest Galaxy S lineup is composed of three flagships: Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. For the first time, the Plus variant is not the most advanced one anymore and there is an even more awesome version: the Ultra variant. While everyone already knows which is the best variant and which is the inferior one, for a lot of people it is not easy to realize which variant is the best for their needs and which provides the highest value for money. That is why we decided to publish this comparison highlighting the differences between the specifications of Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S20 vs Samsung Galaxy S20+ vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

Design

The vanilla version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup provides the most elegant and minimalistic design since it features the smallest camera bump on the rear side. Further, the vanilla S20 is also a more compact device than Galaxy S20+ and S20 Ultra, since it features a smaller display. But it looks like Galaxy S20+ has a slightly higher screen-to-body ratio than both Galaxy S20 and S20 Ultra. Further, its camera module is not much bigger than the vanilla S20. In each case, you get a waterproof phone with both the front and back sides protected by Gorilla Glass 6, so an outstanding build quality.

Display

The displays of Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra come with the same flagship-level specifications. They are all Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels with HDR10+, a Quad HD+ resolution, and a refresh rate up to 120 Hz (you can enable the 120 Hz refresh rate only if you opt for the Full HD+ resolution, otherwise you have to stick to 60 Hz. What really changes between these handsets is the display diagonal: Galaxy S20 has a compact 6.2-inch display, Galaxy S20+ has a 6.7-inch screen and Galaxy S20 Ultra has a wide 6.9-inch display. Bigger displays are better for productivity and multimedia lovers, while smaller ones allow easy one-handed use and transportability.

Hardware/Software

The whole Samsung Galaxy S20 lineup is fueled by either a Snapdragon 865 or an Exynos 990 chipset depending on the market, paired with 12 GB of RAM in every configuration (except for the Galaxy S20 Ultra which comes in a higher-end configuration with 16 GB of RAM). So you get essentially the same performance. And all of these devices have 5G variants. What changes is the internal storage: for the vanilla S20 you only have the 128 GB option, while for the S20 Plus and the S20 Ultra you get up to 512 GB of internal storage. All the devices come with UFS 3.0 storage expandable with a micro SD. They pack Android 10 out of the box, customized by One UI 2.

Camera

The best camera phone of the trio (on the paper it is even the best camera phone of the whole market, currently) is the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Unlike its cheaper siblings, it supports up to 100x zoom and it comes with the main sensor boasting a 108 MP resolution. The second place goes to Galaxy S20+ which differs from the vanilla S20 for an additional TOF 3D camera.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the most amazing even when it comes to the battery life, thanks to a big 5000 mAh battery. Right after we got the S20 Plus with a 4500 mAh battery.

Price

Samsung Galaxy S20 starts from €999/$999 (5G), S20+ costs €1,099/$1,199 (5G) in its base variant, and Galaxy S20 Ultra (5G) has a starting price of €1,349/$1,399. Galaxy S20 Ultra is obviously the winner, but if you do not need the best cameras and a 4500 mAh battery is sufficient for you, S20+ is enough. Galaxy S20 has a compact display and not everyone likes this. Further, it has a way smaller 4000 mAh battery. If you do not care about those two compromises, then the Galaxy S20 remains a good deal which will allow you saving some money.

Samsung recently unveiled its newest smartphones – the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 with the trio scheduled to go on sale in early March. The Korean tech giant already gave us an in-depth analysis of the features onboard the three devices during the Unpacked event earlier this month. While all the three models pack very similar, cutting-edge hardware, the Ultra is said to pack a crazy telescopic 4x optically-zooming camera, which can go up to 100x zoom when the digital algorithms kick in.

Samsung also touted the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ as also packing impressive camera modules with absolutely “no compromise”. However, there are reasons to suggest that Samsung may be trying to overhype the cameras on the S20 and S20+. The specs sheet released by the company shows that both models have telephoto cameras. Telephotos are understood to mean bringing optical zoom in order to magnify things. The specs sheet equally lists the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+’s telephoto cameras to have 3x “hybrid optic zoom”.

However, a check by the guys at NotebookCheck.net has shown that the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+’s “telephoto camera” in reality sports a wide-angle lens. The “telephoto” lens is only capable of providing a 1.06 zoom compared to the regular camera. This means that the 3x “hybrid optic zoom” is actually almost entirely a digital crop. The presence of a 64MP sensor may be to provide more information for the crop.

In any case, only the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a proper optical zoom and what can be called a telephoto lens. However, the 3X hybrid optic zoom may not be entirely disappointing, neither would the entire camera. We still expect the Galaxy S20and Galaxy S20+ to come with superb camera output. However, Samsung isn’t being entirely truthful marketing the models as having telephoto lens when in fact there is just digital zoom at play.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is definitely a very elegant and futuristic design, but it has bigger dimensions and a huge camera module, that is why it would not be my choice. Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max is more compact and it comes with more premium materials (stainless steel for the frame), that is why it is my favorite choice. Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is very elegant as well, it looks even more futuristic than both its rivals, but it has an inferior build quality and it lacks a certification for water resistance.

Display

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra wins the display comparison. It has a higher resolution (so a higher level of detail), a higher refresh rate and a better overall quality. And we are not the only ones saying this: the device has just been tested by DisplayMate which confirmed its amazing screen. Despite it lacks a high refresh rate, we give second place to the Super Retina XDR OLED display found on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. There is a silly and bigger notch, but it includes Face ID, so we can forgive it. Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro still comes with an astonishing display, especially for that price. You get just a Full HD+ resolution, but there is a 90 Hz refresh rate and a 180 Hz touch sampling rate, as well as HDR10+.

Hardware/Software

All of these devices feature top-tier hardware including the best Qualcomm’s and Apple’s chipsets, as well as an amazing software optimization. I had no chance to test the performances of the best Samsung device and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro since they are still not available globally, but overall, you should not get big differences given that they all feature an amazing hardware department. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro run Android 10 out of the box, while iPhone 11 Pro Max runs iOS. Note that S20 and Mi 10 support 5G connectivity, while iPhone 11 Pro Max does not.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra wins the camera comparison as well, at least on the paper. It features up to 100x digital zoom (10x hybrid optical zoom) thanks to a 48 MP periscope lens, and it even comes with a huge 108 MP main sensor and an ultrawide lens. Even its front camera is top-notch with its 40 MP resolution. Even Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are top-end camera phones, with the latter providing an astonishing quality when it comes to video recording. But unlike Samsung Galaxy S20 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, the iPhone 11 Pro Max does not support 8K video recording.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a huge 5000 mAh battery and it will likely last a lot more on a single charge. Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro should come right after with a 4500 mAh battery supporting the fastest charging technology (50W wired and 30W wireless). But you still get a great battery life with the iPhone 11 Pro Max, despite it has a battery capacity below 4000 mAh. In each case, you get wireless charging.

Price

Prices are the weakest points of these flagships. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a starting price of €1349/$1399, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro starts from €660/$712 (actually we only know its Chinese price, it will cost more globally) and iPhone 11 Pro Max is priced €1189/$1099 for its base variant with 64 GB of internal storage. Overall the most interesting and awesome device on the paper is the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. It offers an amazing camera department, a bigger battery, and a better display experience.

Samsung recently unveiled its latest Galaxy S-series flagship smartphones, including Galaxy S20, S20 Pus, and S20 Ultra. While the company obviously has high expectations from these models, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo isn’t much convinced.

As per his estimated, the South Korean giant will manage to sell about 32 million units of the Galaxy S20 series smartphones in this year, which compared to the previous-generation models isn’t much.

Kuo adds that Samsung sold around 36-38 million Galaxy S10 models last year. He states that there’s a lack of significant innovation in user experience for the latest handsets, despite the massive hardware upgrades.

Since Samsung has already introduced a price cut for the Galaxy S10 series, which now starts at $599, the company won’t suffer in terms of revenue. The loss revenue because of the new Galaxy S20 lineup will be made up by the previous-generation models with this new price cut.

Interestingly, the report from Ming-Chi Kuo contradicts what Counterpoint Research predicted in its report. The research firm said that the newly launched Galaxy S20 will outsell its predecessor.

The pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series starts at $1000 in the United States, higher than the $700 starting price of Apple iPhone 11. While the S20 Plus and S20 Ultra $1200 and $1400, the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max starts at $1000 and $1100 respectively.

The camera crew that was assigned the task of shooting the aforesaid unveiling event of the company’s latest flagship smartphones were given the Galaxy S20 Ultra. To facilitate the process of shooting and handling, Samsung placed the devices into specially-designed mounts that also offered more stability.
