Huawei, the Chinese tech giant known for its smartphones, has been making strides in the electric vehicle (EV) industry by partnering with car manufacturers to build better EVs and smart cars in China. However, a recent leak of their 600kW Huawei charger station shows that they are far ahead of the competition, including Tesla.

Leaked images of the charging station show that it is a square-shaped unit with a cooling device at the bottom. The charger’s dimensions are 295 x 340 x 1700 mm, and it is painted in the signature red color of Huawei. The model number of this charger is DT600L1-CNA1, and it supports China’s national standard 2015 DC fast charging, single-gun output, and the output voltage range is 200-1000V. The maximum output current is 600A, and the maximum output power is 600kW.

Named the “FusionCharge,” it is a liquid-cooled charger with a charging hub that ranges up to 3.5 meters. Industry experts suggest that Huawei initially planned to roll out these chargers in 2025, but the company is already testing them with limited users in advance, with some speculating that it could be an advance move to cover the upcoming Huawei AITO Wenji M9 model, which will launch later this year.

Huawei’s FusionCharge lineup includes a DC Supercharger, a DC Fast Charger, and a DC Split Charger, with the maximum power of the DC Supercharger at 600kW, rated voltage at 1000V, maximum current at 600A, and maximum power at 600kW. The DC Fast Charge is a double-split pile with a total power of 360kW, with each pile having a maximum power of 180kW and a charging cable length of 5 meters. The DC Split Charger has an output voltage range of 200-1000V, with a rated output power of 600kW.

In comparison, Tesla’s current V3 chargers can only provide 250kW power, and even the upcoming V4 supercharger is expected to max out at 350kW. Thus, the 600kW Huawei charger is faster than Tesla’s current offerings, but we will have to wait for the final release to know more about its specs.

It’s worth noting that achieving such a high charging power requires grid support, but the fact that Huawei is making such a bold move in terms of energy supplementation shows its commitment to the EV industry’s growth. With its superior charging technology, Huawei may soon emerge as a formidable player in the EV market.

Last week, Honor announced its new mid-range smartphone in the market, the Honor 20 Lite featuring Kirin 710F and triple rear cameras. The phone came with a large 4000mAh battery, officially supporting 22.5W charging. However, it turns out that the phone can charge faster than 22.5W if you use a high-wattage charger.

Earlier today, a known blogger in China tried charging his Honor 20 Lite with Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge fast charger. To his surprise, the phone displayed the ‘SuperCharging’ text on the screen, with decimal points in the charging percentage. This raised speculations that the phone actually charged at more than 20W.

And soon after this post was made public, Honor’s VP, Xiong Junmin, confirmed that the Honor 20 Lite charges at more than 20W. However, we still don’t have an official figure for its maximum charging speed. So before you get too excited, note that it still might not be as fast as 40W.

The stock 22.5W charger is still pretty good as it reportedly charges the Honor 20 Lite up to 53% in 30 minutes. For a 4000mAh battery, this figure is pretty good. Apart from this, the phone comes with a 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, 8GB of RAM, and a triple camera setup featuring a 48MP primary sensor, 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge technology might be coming to a mobile power bank soon according to a new leak. The info comes from ChargerLab, the same source that revealed that Huawei plans to unveil a new 20W SuperCharge protocol in 2019.

According to info revealed to them from someone in the supply chain, Huawei will release a 10,000mAh capacity power bank with support for its 40W SuperCharge fast charging protocol.

We received a leak from supplychain that Huawei is releasing a 40W SuperCharge Protocol(SCP) 10000mAh powerbank. It's able to charge Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Honor Magic 2 at maximum power of 40W and also backward comptaible with 22.5W SCP fast charging of other Huawei phones.

The said power bank will be able to charge the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Honor Magic 2 at 40W. It will also be able to charge other Huawei/Honor devices that support 22.5W fast charging thanks to the power bank’s backward compatibility.

There is no info on when the power bank will launch or how much it will cost. Huawei already has a couple of power banks that have support for different charging protocols.

This year Huawei unveiled a new charging protocol that launched with the Mate 20 Pro. Called SuperCharge 2.0, it provides 40W of power at 10V and 4A. A new leak has revealed that the Chinese smartphone giant will unveil a new protocol next year and this may be available for more devices.

The new SuperCharge charging protocol also has a voltage rating of 10V like SuperCharge 2.0 but it cuts the amperage to 2A for a 20W power-rating. This means the new SuperCharge protocol won’t be as fast as the one in the Mate 20 Pro. However, the good news is that it will likely be available on a lot more devices instead of just flagships like SuperCharge 2.0.

Huawei’s 20W fast-charging is still faster than Qualcomm‘s Quick Charge 3.0 which has a power rating of 18W and is what most manufacturers adopt for their mid-range, upper mid-range and even some of their flagships. Qualcomm has a faster charging protocol (Quick Charge 4.0+) but adoption has been slow by manufacturers.

Other than Huawei, OnePlus and OPPO are examples of other manufacturers that also have their own charging protocols. Yesterday, OnePlus announced a new charging protocol called Warp Charge 30 (30W) along with the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. OPPO, on the other hand, is the king with its SuperVOOC fast-charge technology which has a power rating of 50W (10V 5A).

Huawei filed a trademark application last year for its SuperCharge technology in the EU. The SuperCharge technology had been in the work and was demonstrated  as far back as 2015. The technology now seems to be fully ready for the market as the Chinese tech giant has disclosed that it is partnering with TÜV Rheinland to certify its SuperCharge technology.

Fast charging is one feature that is fast gaining ground in the smartphone industry with an increasing number of OEMs including the technology in one form or the other on their smartphones. But the proliferation of fast charging technologies has often given rise to safety concerns relating to the battery. The burst in voltage could result in the explosion of the battery and so, caution has always been the word. Huawei has been treading with caution since it first demonstrated the technology in 2015 but it did feature the technology on the Mate 9. However, it seems the tech giant is ready to roll out the feature in a bigger way on the Mate 10. The partnership with TUV Rheinland is obviously to ensure consumers receive a safe product and thus giving them confidence in its products.

TÜV Rheinland has a proven track record, dating back to the 1800s, of inspecting and certifying everything from steam boilers to elevators. So, a certification for the SuperCharge technology will be a big boost to Huawei’s drive to gain more market shares in Europe and the U.S. As far as the technology is concerned, it delivers 5A power at 4.5V. The low voltage keeps the phone cool during charging, the high amperage fills up the battery faster. The charging connectors are also designed to automatically stop charging if they come into contact with water so as to prevent short circuiting. Even when everything is fine, a SuperCharge phone and charger are in constant communication to select the optimal voltage and current to fill the battery quickly and safely. We can’t say when the new technology will officially be introduced to the market.

The Huawei Mate 9 is one of the most anticipated phones from Huawei before the year runs out and for several weeks now we’ve been getting tons of leaks. Today is no different, as new details of the flagship emerge.

The main detail consumers want to know about is the dual camera setup on the Mate 9. A previous leak revealed that the phone will feature 20MP dual cameras supplied by Leica, but the latest leak says it will be a 20MP and 12MP combo. This means that it’s either the official poster leaked online in the article is a fake or this new detail isn’t true as well. The insanely fast charging technology was first announced last year with a video demo and the last we heard of it was when the Chinese manufacturer applied for a trademark in Europe.

The Huawei Mate 9 is expected to come in multiple variants. One is said to feature 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, have 3 colour options and cost $480; another version will have the same RAM but double the storage and have 5 colours options. It will be priced at $585. A premium version with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of phone storage will cost $705.

Do remember that all these are rumours, hence they should be taken with a grain of salt.

A couple of the big names into mobile device manufacturing have their own fast charge technology that is specially designed for their phones. Although, they might work with other brands, they are usually more efficient with their own products. An example is Motorola’s TurboPower fast charge technology (gives 8 hours of battery life in 15 minutes of charging) which will also work with Quick Charge 2.0 compatible devices.

Huawei seems to have come up with their own fast charge technology called Supercharge and they have applied for a trademark for it in the European Union. A prototype of the Supercharge technology was demoed last year at a battery symposium in Japan when a 3000 mAh Li-ion battery was charged to nearly 50% in 5 minutes and a 600 mAh battery charged to 68% in 2 minutes. That is really really fast if you ask me. While there were opinions raised about it damaging the battery, we want to believe the batteries were specially made to withstand that voltage and current, and even if there is a risk, the issue must have been solved already for them to want to trademark the name. Do not forget that applying for a trademark means that you intend to use something commercially.

People have speculated that the charging technology might start showing up in future Huawei devices, with the Huawei Mate 9 being the first device to feature the charging technology. When Supercharge does launch,it will go up against Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, OnePlus’s Dash Charge (or OPPO’s VOOC) and other fast charging technologies.
