Vernee is one company that feels the attitude towards design should change. The company foresees a time when customers will suffer from what is called aesthetic fatigue caused by seeing the same design over and over again. It believes manufacturers who are not investing in design should do so as concentration on only specifications and pricing will negatively affect the development of the industry. Vernee is not just preaching and not practicing. It’s new phone, the Vernee Mars is a testament to its focus on design.

Vernee has worked hard on the design of the so that it stands out from the phones currently in the market. The front of the Mars sports a symmetric design and is fitted with a 2.5D display with rounded corners and sides. There is no physical buttons in front neither will you see the company’s brand name plastered on it. The company says a combination of Gel Suspension Technology and the ultra thin 1mm bezel allows the Mars to achieve a screen-to-body ratio of 81%. It’s fingerprint scanner is also on the side, which is sort of a rare thing to see on a Chinese phone.

For the back cover and frame, a 6000 series aircraft grade aluminium alloy that has undergone a total of 18 processes was used. Nano-injection molding and anodizing coloring process gives the cover a firm hold over the phone. The Vernee Mars is just 7.2mm thick, the surface has been treated with fine zircon (No. 220) and the sides are rounded allowing for a comfortable handling experience.

Hardware design is not the only part where the Vernee Mars shines. On the software side, it is among the first Chinese phones to have an Android Nougat update which is pretty impressive as software updates is not a strong point of most Chinese manufacturers.

The very first thing you are going to notice is an outstanding build quality of the device. It is made entirely of metal and I absolutely love the design of the antenna inlays.

We have a 5.5” 1080p display, which is sharp and vibrant but it could be just a tad brighter.

Just above the display, we have a 5MP shooter, which sits next to the notification LED light.

The phone just looks and feels premium in the hand. Also, the buttons do not rattle and they are tactile.

As for the camera, we have 13MP shooter coupled with a dual tone dual-LED flash and PDAF.

We have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is convenient to use. It is pretty accurate and it unlocks the phone 8/10, and it can do it straight from the standby mode.

The loudspeaker is placed on the bottom but the sound is kind of tinny and a little flat.

When it comes to hardware, the phone ships with an octa-core Mediatek Helio P10 chip with the clock speeds of 2.0GHz, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Helio P10 chips when it comes to gaming and the Vernee Mars is no exception. You should expect quite a few skipped frames and stutter if you want to play games like Asphalt 8 on the highest graphics. On the other hand, playing this game on medium graphics is much better and you may have some enjoyable gaming experience.

The Vernee Mars ships with the pretty much stock-looking Android 6.0.

There are not too many features to talk about except for the fact that there are some customization options like the ability to switch the position of on-screen navigation buttons.

Most importantly, I didn’t have any issues with the phone’s daily performance even after installing quite a few apps and I would say that the Vernee Mars is a pretty fast performer.

Vernee Mars Review: IMAGE QUALITY

IT IS HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED TO DOWNLOAD FULL RESOLUTION CAMERA SAMPLES TO SEE THE ACTUAL IMAGE QUALITY. THE PICTURES UPLOADED ON THE WEBSITE ARE 50% SMALLER IN RESOLUTION.

When it comes to the image quality, the Vernee Mars can take some decent-looking images in daylight. I took most of the pictures in the cloudy day and they look quite good but there could be a little more detail. Also, some of the shots look under-exposed and the colors look washed out. Finally, the camera does not really impress in low-light as there is quite a lot of noise and grain in the pictures.

As for selfie camera, the image quality could be better. The selfies could look a lot sharper and there could be more detail.

When it comes to the 1080p video, it is kind of mediocre as the footage could look sharper. Also, there is no continuous auto-focus on board. See the video review for a video sample.

The phone comes with a hybrid dual-SIM card tray, which can take either 2 SIM cards or 1 SIM and the microSD card.

When it comes to connectivity, I didn’t have any issues with the signal reception. Also, the wifi and the call quality are pretty good. The GPS signal may not be the best, but it may get the job done most of the times.

Vernee Mars Review: BATTERY LIFE

The phone ships with a 3000mAh battery that performs quite well. I could get around 4 or even 5 hours of screen-on time, depending on the usage.

In case you need to re-charge it, the supplied fast charge will do that in around 2 hours.

Vernee Mars Review: CONCLUSIONS

The Vernee Mars is yet another sub-$200 phone from China that aims to bring a lot of value to the table.

I have to say that it succeeds in quite a few ways since the device has a premium all-metal design, excellent build quality, and nice and sharp display.

Also, the Vernee Mars is a pretty fast performer when it comes to the day-to-day use and the battery life is pretty good.

However, the camera department is where the phone struggles. Sure, you can take some decent daylight images but the camera falls short in lower-lit or more challenging situations like cloudy days.

In addition, you have to know that the Helio P10 chip allows you to play the latest 3D games only on medium graphics.

At the end of the day, Vernee Mars is still a pretty solid smartphone for the price but you have to consider if the previously mentioned shortcomings are important to you or not.

Vernee’s 6GB RAM phone called Vernee Mars is expected to launch in November which is still a good 2 months away, but the new manufacturer doesn’t want you to forget and has been releasing details of the phone in bits. Today we have images of the phone in Carbon Soot.

We have reported pictures of the phone in champagne gold and we have seen pictures of a blue version as well (blue seems to be the new rose gold), these new pictures hints at the phone having 3 colour options.

Vernee has adopted an arc design for the antenna lines which is similar to what is on the Meizu Pro 6. It also shares design similarities with the iPhone 6s (camera and LED flash placement).

First set of pictures of the Mars shows it has got thin bezels.It has also been said to launch with Mediatek’s Helio P20 chip. There is no news about the price and the exact launch date but based on the competitive pricing of their previous devices, we expect it to have an affordable price tag.

Although Vernee entered the smartphone market only a few months ago, the company has managed to make a good name for itself, all thanks to its value for money smartphones and regular support. We are still waiting for the release of the Vernee Apollo, which is the company’s flagship smartphone for 2016, but there’s another model, the Vernee Mars that is going to be announced soon.

We had already revealed the unique antenna design on the Vernee Mars a few days back, and now we have additional pictures of the same. However, this time, we can see that the phone is in Champagne Gold color, thereby confirming the two color options that most likely will be announced for the device at launch — Silver and Gold.

While there are a couple of models like the Meizu Pro 6 that feature these unique arc antenna lines (and the iPhone likely will also feature a similar antenna design), it is good to see Vernee Mars adopt such a design. It may not be a revolutionary feature, but it still sets it apart from the numerous monotonous designs on metal phones that we have seen in the past few months.

The pictures also reveal that the body will get 3D polishing treatment on the edges, and the antenna band seems to well integrated into the body. The back texture is going to be smooth, and the overall design looks quite good. See the remaining images from down below.

Phone designs have come a long way, since the birth of the first smartphones. Now, we have metal, glass, wood (back cover) and premium plastic options for smartphone bodies, with different people preferring different materials for their phones. Metal seems to be the consumer favorite mainly because of its premium looks and sturdy form factor. However, in the case of metal phones, you will often find two antenna lines at the back, which has become the common trend among all metal handsets.

Meizu Pro 6 turned out to be one of the first phones to use a unique arc antenna band design and from the numerous leaks of the new iPhone 7 models, the same design also seems to have been adopted on the new Apple smartphones. Now, Vernee has just revealed that its upcoming model, the Vernee Mars will also come with a similar Arc Band design, making it unique among the competition.

Unlike the traditional antenna design, the Vernee Mars’s antenna bands will be curved around the edges, blending well with the overall design. The company reveals that the process behind it is slightly more complicated as compared to the traditional manufacturing process, however, Vernee adds that for the best visual effects, they decided to go with this design.

The Vernee Mars is now confirmed to come with black arc antenna design on its silver body. We have a couple of images of the Mars’s antenna bands, you can check them out from above.
