Vivo Nex 3 5G was launched in September of 2019 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with Snapdragon X50 5G modem. The phone came with Functouch OS 9 based on Android Pie out of the box. But now, it is finally receiving stable Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10 update.

The Chinese smartphone maker started beta testing Android 10 on Vivo Nex 3 5G last month. Now, within a month, the company has started rolling out stable Funtouch OS 10 update for all the regular users of the phone.

Vivo announced Functouch OS 10 in December and even revealed the list of eligible devices for the update. The Nex 3 5G is one of the devices in the first batch to receive the update. As promised, the company is finally delivering a stable update to all the units of the device.

Anyway, just like any other OTA update, it is being rolled out in a phased manner. Hence, it might take time to reach every unit of the Nex 3 5G. Also, do note that this update is only being seeded out to the devices with model number V1924A.

The Functouch OS 10 stable update based on Android 10 for the Vivo Nex 3 5G bumps up the build version to 6.10.1 with March 2020 security patch.

The TENAA listing of the Vivo V1950A has now been updated with its entire specifications. The specs of the Vivo V1950A are exact match with the Snapdragon 855+ powered Vivo NEX 3 5G phone from last year. The TENAA listing of the smartphone suggests that it could be the same phone driven by the new Snapdragon 865 mobile platform onboard.

Vivo V1950A specifications

The Vivo V1950A has 167.44 x 76.14 x 9.4mm dimensions and it weighs 219.5 grams. The phone sports a 6.89-inch AMOLED display that produces 1080 x 2256 pixels full HD+ resolution. The TENAA images of the phone are still unavailable, but it seems that it could be sporting a notch-less waterfall display with extremely curved edges. The display of the Vivo V1950A is integrated with a fingerprint sensor.

The Vivo V1950A handset is fueled by an octa-core processor that clocks at 2.84 GHz. The handset supports NA and SA dual-mode 5G networks. The official listing of Snapdragon 865 mobile platform on Qualcomm’s website states that it offers up to 2.84GHz clocking speeds. Moreover, it carries support dual-mode 5G networks. Last month, Vivo launched its flagship smartphone — Vivo NEX 3 5G and today, the smartphone has made its way to Taiwan. The launch of this new Vivo NEX 3 5G smartphone in Taiwan comes just as the 5G service rollout has begun in the region.

Interestingly, the company has not increased the pricing for the 5G variant and is selling the smartphone at the same price of the 4G model. Apparently, the company decided not to increase price for the 5G model to meet the customers’ expectations.

In China, the Vivo NEX 3 5G smartphone with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at ¥5698 (~$806) while the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version costs ¥6198 (~$877). Both the variants are on sale in the country.

The Vivo NEX 3 5G comes with a Waterfall Display design which curves right into the area where you will usually find the power and volume control buttons. As a replacement for the removal of the buttons, Vivo has included a pressure-sensitive sensor and X-axis motor in the side of the phone.

The smartphone has a 6.89-inch Super AMOLED display with 2256 x 1080 pixels screen resolution that offers 93.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. There is no notch and neither is there a punch hole. Yesterday, Vivo had confirmed that it will be launching the Vivo NEX 3 5G flagship phone on Sept. 16. The handset has already appeared on TENAA with full specifications. It is expected to release in China in 4G LTE and 5G editions. Today, the Chinese manufacturer took to Weibo to share three renders of the phone to showcase the curvature of its display.

The official renders show the marvelous front of the Vivo NEX 3 smartphone. The sides of the notch-less display have a waterfall effect. The upper and lower bezels of the display are very slim. It is speculated that the phone will be offering 99.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. The bottom edge of the phone has a USB-C port and a speaker grille.

TENAA listings have revealed that V1923A and V1924A model numbers may belong to the 4G LTE only and 5G editions of the Vivo NEX 3. Both models measure 167.44 x 76.14 x 9.4mm and weigh 218 grams. The NEX 3 has a 6.89-inch AMOLED display that produces 1080 x 2256 pixels and it is powered by Snapdragon 855+ SoC that includes a 2.96GHz octa-core processor.

The Vivo NEX 3 will be coming in RAM options such as 8 GB and 12 GB. Its storage models are 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. There is no support for microSD card slot on the device.  The Android 9 Pie OS comes preloaded on the phone. The handset is expected to  come equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The NEX 3 is blessed with a round-shaped camera module on its rear. It includes a 64-megapixel primary lens, a secondary lens of 13-megapixel and a third lens of 13-megapixel. The smartphone will be equipped with a pop-up camera module camera that will be housing two camera sensors. One of them is a 16-megapixel unit. The smartphone is backed by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 44W fast charging. The handset also includes an in-screen fingerprint reader. As of this writing, there is no information available on the pricing of the Vivo NEX 3 and NEX 3 5G smartphones. The NEX Dual Display Edition phone costed 4,998 Yuan (~$698) for 10 GB RAM + 128 GB storage.  Probably, the base model of the NEX 3 5G may carry the same pricing. The smartphone is now up for reservations in China.

Vivo’s NEX lineup of smartphones has been special for the company as it launches innovative devices under this series. Vivo NEX was the world’s first phone to have a pop-up camera while Vivo NEX 2 came with two displays.

Now, the company is gearing up to launch its next-generation Vivo NEX series smartphone, dubbed as Vivo NEX 3. Li Xiang, Product Manager at Vivo has already teased a few features of the upcoming phone and now some of the key specifications of this upcoming smartphone have been leaked online.

Additionally, as expected, the company has today officially confirmed that the Vivo NEX 3 5G smartphone will be launched in China next month but no date has been specified. Making the announcement on Weibo, the company posted an image with a caption that reads: “Here it comes! #5G Vivo NEX 3 releasing in September!”

Another image, detailing key specs of the upcoming smartphone has leaked online, which reveals that the Vivo NEX 3 5G will come with an impressive 99.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. Offering such high screen-to-body ratio is possible because the company has adopted a Waterfall Screen design.

Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core processor which was launched recently as an upgrade over the Snapdragon 855 flagship octa-core chipset.

As per the leak, the device will be featuring a 64 MP primary camera sensor on the back in a triple-camera setup. Coming to the front-facing camera, since there’s no notch on top of the display, we expect the NEX 3 to come with a pop-up camera, similar to the Vivo NEX. There are reports hinting at in-display camera sensor but it seems unlikely.

It is said that the smartphone will also come with a headphone jack unlike other flagships in the market today. Further, the phone is also expected to come with 44W fast charging support. While the company has not yet revealed the launch date, we expect the smartphone to get launched around mid-September.
