It is a phone full of surprises and it offers something that it’s hard to get in its price range. Is this alternative phone good for your needs or you would better choose other upper-midrange devices and flagship killers in the same segment? This comparison between Vivo V20 Pro 5G, OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G, and Redmi K30 Pro will clear your ideas by highlighting all the main differences between these three amazing handsets sold in the Chinese market.

Design

With that big notch, the design of the Vivo V20 Pro 5G looks a bit outdated. But you should note that it is the thinnest and most lightweight device of this trio. It is one of the thinnest 5G phones thanks to its 7.4 mm thickness and it is incredibly light with just 170 grams. The Vivo V20 Pro 5G is even the most compact phone of this comparison thanks to its smaller display. If you do not care about the dimensions, then the best design belongs to the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G. It comes with an amazing look, a curved screen with a high screen-to-body ratio, and even parts of the design glowing in the dark. It is almost as thin and lightweight as the Vivo V20 Pro 5G, despite it packs a bigger battery.

Display

Besides boasting the most beautiful design, the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G has even the best display. It is an OLED panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a very high peak brightness (up to 1100 nits). On the other hand, the Redmi K30 Pro has the HDR10+ certification, but it lacks the 90 Hz refresh rate. It has an OLED panel as well which is even wider, but the brightness is lower. The Vivo V20 Pro 5G has a Full HD+ OLED panel with HDR10. None of these displays is disappointing and all of them include an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

The best chipset is onboard the Redmi K30 Pro: we are talking about the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform by Qualcomm paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage. But with the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G, you get a similar chipset in terms of performance: the Dimensity 1000+ can be placed between Snapdragon 855+ and Snapdragon 865. The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G packs a lower UFS 2.1 storage, but it offers a higher quantity of RAM: up to 12 GB. Vivo V20 Pro 5G is just a mid-ranger with its Snapdragon 765G SoC. Vivo V20 Pro 5G and Redmi K30 Pro run Android 10 (the Vivo V20 Pro 5G already got the update to Android 11), while Oppo Reno 5 Pro is based on Android 11.

Camera

Oppo Reno5 Pro 5G wins the rear camera comparison thanks to a brighter focal aperture for the 64 MP main camera allowing it to offer a higher quality in low light conditions. On the other hand, Vivo V20 Pro 5G has better selfie cameras: a dual 44 + 8 MP front camera department. But the Redmi K30 Pro is able to record 8K videos.

Battery

Redmi K30 Pro is the battery champion thanks to its bigger 4700 mAh capacity. Oppo Reno5 Pro comes right after and it wins the fast charging comparison thanks to its 65W power. Vivo V20 Pro 5G has just 4000 mAh.

Price

Oppo Reno5 Pro is priced at €425/$519 in its base variant, Redmi K30 Pro costs €375/$457, and Vivo V20 Pro 5G costs €333/$407. The OPPO Reno5 Pro wins the comparison thanks to its better design, display, rear cameras, faster charging, and Android 11 out of the box. But it costs more.

OPPO Reno5 series

Perhaps, the next big launch in China would be the Reno5 series of smartphones.
Huawei Nova8, Honor V40 series

Huawei launched the Nova 8 SE back in November. The company is expected to expand the Nova8 lineup and if reports are true it will happen this month. Certifications received an earlier hint that the lineup will include two more devices- Nova8, and Nova8 Pro. The Pro model will likely feature a dual punch-hole display with curved edges. Sadly, not much is known about the series but the Nova 8 could sport Dimensity 820 SoC, rectangular layout with quad-cameras, while the Pro model will have Dimensity 1000+ SoC.

The Honor V40 series was expected to launch last month. However, a lot happened in December and now Honor is no longer a sub-brand of Huawei. Hence, the V40 series could be the first Honor Smartphones after the split. Although it is rumored to launch in December along with the Nova8 series, some reports say that it might get skipped to Jan 2021. The series will have V40 Pro, V40 Pro+. Reports say that both the devices will have a 6.72-inch FHD+ 120Hz display, 50MP Sony IMX700 RYYB camera, 66W wired & 40W wireless charging, 5G, Dimensity 1000+ SoC(V40), and more.

The standard and SE models have already been announced in India while the Pro model is expected to launch at the end of this month according to the CEO of Vivo India. Now, a leaker has revealed the possible launch date for the 5G smartphone which made its debut in Thailand in September.

According to the leaker, Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414, a source informed him that the Vivo V20 Pro might be announced in India on November 25. That is Tuesday next week, four days from today.

Although he isn’t certain, the date goes in line with the “end of November” date attributed to Jerome Chen, the Indian head of Vivo. However, it is surprising that Vivo is yet to make an official announcement seeing as the date is close already.

Heard from a source that vivo "might" launch the vivo V20 Pro in India on November 25th. pic.twitter.com/ixaLO69pvZ

The Vivo V20 Pro has a 6.44-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. Unlike most phones released this year which have a hole punch in their screens, the V20 Pro has a tub-shaped notch that is home to two front-facing cameras. Not only that, but the screen also has a 60Hz refresh rate which is surprising as a high-refresh-rate display is one of the popular trends in the smartphone industry this year.

Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 765G processor and it is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The triple rear camera setup on the back of the phone includes a 64MP main sensor, a 120° 8MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP mono camera. Up in front are a 44MP main camera and an 8MP 105° superwide angle camera.

The Vivo V20 Pro has stereo speakers, dual SIM support, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a 4000mAh battery with support for 33W fast wired charging. It runs Funtouch OS based on Android 10.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the phone will have a price tag under INR 30,000 when it launches. That converts to about $405 which is cheaper than the THB 14,999 (~$495) price tag it sells for in Thailand.

However, a new report by 91Mobiles now provides information on the new launch date and pricing for the device.

Vivo V20 Pro 5G new Launch Date, Price

Quoting its Industry sources, 91Mobiles’ exclusive report says that Vivo V20 Pro 5G will skip the November launch date. Instead, it will debut in December in the country. Further, the report says that the smartphone will be priced below ₹30,000($405). This is quite low compared to the THB 14,999($488) price in Thailand.

To compare, its sibling Vivo V20 and V20 SE are already priced at ₹24,990($337), and ₹20,990($283) respectively in India. Accordingly, the report also quotes its sources saying that Vivo V20 Pro 5G will be priced similar to the high-end variant of the OnePlus Nord 5G. This suggests that the device could retail for ₹29,999($404) in India. Still, let’s wait for Vivo to confirm it officially.

Vivo V20 Pro 5G Specifications

Vivo V20 Pro 5G features a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G SoC and paired with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage. For camera, it has a dual-selfie setup at the front with 44MP main, and 8MP ultra-wide sensors.

But you are in for a bunch of new phones this month. Here we are with another edition of upcoming Smartphones for the month of November 2020. We are just 5 days into the month, and a bunch of devices have already been announced. So, stick around till the end to find out what phones are launching in the next few weeks.

Huawei Nova 8 SE

Huawei will launch the Nova 8 SE in China on November 5. As reported earlier, the device is likely to come in two variants. A recently leaked spec-sheet shows that the device will have two editions- One with Dimensity 720 SoC, and Dimensity 800U SoC. The former has 5G+4G SIM, while the latter has dual-5G support. Other expected features include a 6.5-inch OLED display, quad-camera with 64MP main lens, 16MP selfie shooter, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, 3,800mAh battery with 66W fast charging. It will likely run EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10.

Redmi Note 9 series

Previously rumored to be the Redmi Note 10 series, three new Smartphones(M2007J17C, M2007J22C, M2007J19C) are expected to be added to the Redmi Note 9 lineup in China. Before you get confused, as of now, the new devices are likely headed to China. And doesn’t seem to resemble the already available ones. One of them likely has an LCD panel while the other has a high-refresh-rate screen. And likely have brightness up to 450 nits, NTSC 84%, 1500:1 contrast ratio. As of now, we don’t have an exact date but they are expected to go official later this month.

Honor V40 Series

Although rumors point to a December launch, Honor might jump the gun and bring it a month earlier as nothing is official yet. That said, the series will likely have two devices- V40 Pro, V40 Pro+. Expected features include a 6.72-inch FHD+ dual punch-hole curved display, 120Hz refresh rate, Dimensity 1000+SoC(V40 Pro), Kirin 9000 SoC(V40 Pro+), 50MP Sony IMX700 RYYB camera, 66W Wired SuperCharge, and 40W Wireless Charging.

Realme C17, X7 Pro

Realme has been mum for a while in India which is very unlike the company. However, it is likely coming back with new devices- Realme C17 for India, and Realme X7 Pro for India, and the Global market. The devices will likely launch this month(at least the C17). Realme C17 from Bangladesh features a 6.5-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 460 SoC, quad-cameras, 6GB/128GB storage, and more. Realme X7 Pro is likely heading for a wider Global launch from China. It features a 6.55-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display, Dimensity 1000+ SoC, 64MP rear and 32MP front cameras, 5G, 65W SuperDart charging, and more.

Vivo X60 Series, V20 Pro

Vivo recently announced a transition to Origin OS for its smartphones. This new UI is expected to debut with the Vivo X60 series in November/December. Apart from a leaked naming(X60) on the advertisement hoarding from an Official Store, we don’t have any other info just yet. Vivo V20 Pro, which launched in China back in September, will debut by November End as revealed by its CEO in India. The device features a 6.44-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 765G, 64MP camera, 33W fast charging, and more.

Moto E7, G10 Play

Motorola is expected to break covers of the budget E7, and G10 Play very soon. The entry-level Moto E7 has bagged several certifications(FCC, NBTC, TUV) with model number X2095-3. It is likely to feature a 6.2-inch LCD HD+ display, Snapdragon 632 SoC, 2GB RAM/32GB storage, 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras, 4G, 3,550mAh battery, and more. The G10 Play is supposed to come out in a few weeks. Boasting a model number of XT-2117, it likely has a 6.5-inch screen with a single punch-hole at top left, side-fingerprint, USB-C, 3.5mm jack, 4,850mAh battery, and more.

Other Expected Launches – LAVA BE U

LAVA, an Indian Smartphone brand is likely to launch a women-centric BE U Smartphone around the Diwali period in India. Expected to debut around ₹10,000($135), the device might have a glossy finish with Pink Accents at the back. Although the specifications are not known yet, we can expect it to be designed completely in India considering it is an Indian company.

Samsung Galaxy M02

Samsung is expected to launch another entry-level smartphone, the Galaxy M02. This will likely succeed in the Galaxy M01 from July. Recently, it has passed both India’s BIS, and Bluetooth SIG certifications reveal it will likely have a Snapdragon 450 SoC, 2GB RAM, Bluetooth 4.2, and run on Android 10 OS. That said, there isn’t a specific launch date but considering the recent certification, it might go live anytime soon.

Devices Already launched so far (as of November 5)

Few companies squeezed the trigger before we could get our story out. Hence, here is the list of devices that launched very recently(a few days back).

Smartphone OEMs like OnePlus, Realme, OPPO, and Xiaomi have released beta versions of Android 11 OS for some of their smartphones. The Google Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5v that are scheduled to go office later were believed to come with preinstalled with Android 11 OS. However, a few hours before the announcement, Vivo has confirmed through a press release that the Vivo V20 is the first smartphone that comes with preinstalled.

The PR states that the newly unveiled V20 lineup will run on Android OS, which indicates that the Vivo V20, Vivo V20 Pro, and Vivo V20 SE are all equipped with the latest Android OS. However, the official product pages of the three phones show that the Vivo V20 Pro and Vivo V20 SE are still running on FunTouch OS 11 based Android 10 OS and the Vivo V20 has Android 11 with FunTouch OS 11 overlaid on it. The PR further states that Vivo plans to provide the V20 series with Android 11 in succession, which indicates that the V20 SE and V20 Pro could be soon treated with the Android 11 update.

According to XDA Developers, the Vivo V20 that has a model number of V2025 is the Device Catalog of the Google Play Console. The listing states that its SDK version is 30, which indicates its loaded with Android 11 OS. Moreover, an unboxing video by an Indonesian YouTuber also confirmed that the device is running on Android 11 OS. Considering that the phone will receive two OS upgrades, it appears that the Vivo V20 will be treated with Android 12 and Android 13 OS updates in the future.

Meanwhile, Vivo India is teasing the arrival of the Vivo V20 series in India. A recent leak revealed that the company will make it official on Oct. 12. It is unclear whether the company will be announcing not three, but two V20 models.

The Vivo V20 series will be sold through Flipkart in India. A recent teaser released by the company reveals that the V20 devices will be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 in the country.

However, the company is set the Vivo V20 series a bit earlier in Thailand on Sept. 21. The series includes three devices such as the Vivo V20 SE, Vivo V20, and Vivo V20 Pro. Vivo Thailand released a teaser of the Vivo V20 Pro, which revealed that it could be a rebadged edition of the Vivo S7 5G that debuted in China. Also, a tipster has shared two screengrabs that have revealed the key specifications of the Vivo V20 and 20 SE smartphones.

Vivo V20 SE and Vivo V20 specifications

The Vivo V20 SE and Vivo V20 are equipped with a 6.44-inch S-AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch. The screen supports full HD+ resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Both phones offer a 90.12 percent screen-to-body ratio. These devices are preinstalled with FunTouchOS 11 based Android 10 OS. Interestingly, the Vivo V20 heading to India seems to have a dual punch-hole cutout for two front-facing cameras. This indicates that the Vivo V20 heading to India could be a slightly different phone compared to the ones arriving in markets like Thailand and Indonesia.

The Vivo V20 SE and V20 come with 33W Flash Charge 2.0 technology and NFC connectivity. Both devices have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage.

The Vivo V20 SE has a 32-megapixel selfie camera with features like super night selfie, AI face beauty, multi-style portrait, pose master, and softlight band. The rear-mounted triple camera system of the Vivo V20 SE has a 48-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens that can also capture macro shots, and a 2-megapixel bokeh lens. The V20 SE will come in Gravity Black and Oxygen Blue colors.

The Vivo V20 has a 44-megapixel selfie camera with features like autofocus, steadyface selfie video, dual-view video, super night selfie, slow-motion selfie, and 4K selfie. The triple camera system positioned on the backside of the Vivo V20 has a 64-megapixel main camera, a multifunctional 8-megapixel lens for wide-angle, bokeh, and macro images, and a 2-megapixel mono lens. The Vivo V20 comes in two colors such as Midnight Jazz and Sunset Melody.

Vivo V20 Pro specifications

The teasers released by Vivo Thailand suggest that the Vivo V20 series will come with 5G connectivity. Based on the above leaks, it seems that only the Vivo V20 Pro will support 5G as it is a rebranded Vivo S7 5G.

The NBTC certification confirmed that the V2022 model number belongs to the upcoming Vivo V20 SE smartphone. Now, the Vivo V20 SE has appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform to reveal some of its key specs.

The Vivo V20 SE has appeared on Geekbench 5 with 8 GB of RAM and an octa-core Qualcomm chipset that has 1.80GHz base frequency. The name of the processor is not mentioned in the Geekbench listing, but the ‘trinket’ codename is a giveaway that it is fueled by the Snapdragon 665 mobile platform.

In the single-core test of Geekbench 5, the Vivo V20 SE scored 316 points and it recorded a score of 1377 in the multi-core test. The China Quality Certification (CQC) certification of the device has revealed that it carries support for 33W fast charging.

The other specs of the Vivo V20 SE are under wraps. The NBTC authority had also certified by another Vivo phone with V2018 model number. It revealed that the device will be launching in the market as Vivo V20 Pro. The rumor mill is yet to spill any information on the specs of the V20 Pro phone.

The Vivo V20 series will be replacing the Vivo V19 smartphone that debuted in April this year. The Vivo V19 came with a 6.44-inch S-AMOLED display with dual punch-hole cutout for its 32-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual selfie camera system. The rear shell of the phone sported a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-mgeapixel + 2-megapixel quad camera system. It came preinstalled with Android 10 OS and FunTouch OS 10. The Snapdragon 712 chipset fueled the phone with 8 GB of RAM. It came in 128 GB and 256 GB storage editions. Its 4,500mAh battery carried support for 33W fast charging.
