Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has added another refreshing new color option its X9 model. This is coming barely three months after the Vivo X9 Matte black was added to the lineup. The X9 has now got a cool blue color variant that really tweaks things up and infuses some fresh blood to the X9’s sales especially as it comes out in the bright summer.

On the looks, the Summer Blue color variant of the X9 comes with the same refreshed, premium and sleek look but with more attractiveness. With this new addition, the Vivo X9 now comes in Blue, Rose Gold, Gold, Star Gray and Matte black colours. The X9 is currently on a promotional offer that brings the price down to 2,589 Yuan, 200 Yuan off.

On the specs angle, the Vivo X9 Blue variants till features a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 chip with a 4GB RAM providing some support. The X9 also comes with 64GB of internal storage and packs a built-in 3050mAh battery under its hood.

The Vivo X9 was released towards the end of last year. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 and paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, the X9 still falls under the mid-range category. Originally launched in gold and rose gold, Vivo later released a matte black version in February. Vivo has announced a new color variant, bringing the total to four.

The new color variant is actually a limited NBA Edition with a blue back with NBA’s famous logo engraved at the bottom. The antenna lines are white and the front bezels are black. The NBA customization is not limited to the surface alone, it also runs deep into the phone. The user interface is NBA-themed in the form of wallpapers and icons.

The Vivo X9 NBA Edition will also ship with a NBA key-ring, a water bottle, and a power bank. It will go on sale on the 10th of May and will be priced at ¥2998 (~$435). That is ¥200 (~$29) more than the other color variants which is not a bad price considering the extra goodies you get.

The specifications remain unchanged for the Vivo X9 NBA Edition. The screen is still a 5.5-inch 1080p display, battery capacity is 3050mAh, and the rear camera is a 16MP sensor. Up front, you get a dual camera setup consisting of a 20MP main shooter and an 8MP sensor for depth of field.

Vivo last week announced that it would add a Matte black color variant to the X9 which was launched last year, coming in just gold and rose gold variants. Vivo has now officially listed the Vivo X9 Matte Black version up for sale and sales is already on, with the new version still clutching the same 2798 Yuan (around $406) price tag the earlier color variants launched with. As if that isn’t enough, Vivo is also offering a Bluetooth headset along with each purchase.

On the looks, the Matte Black color variant of the X9 comes with a refreshed, premium and sleek look. The display seems to have been changed from the Super AMOLED screen on the gold and rose gold versions to a JDI display on this new color version. The thickness of the device has also seen an increase of 0.27mm but that doesn’t affect the feel of the phone as it still has a compact build.

The Vivo X9 was launched alongside the XPlay 6 and X9 Plus late last month and came with a front dual camera setup as its main highlight. We bring you both the unboxing images of the device as well as its teardown images.

Vivo did a good job in the X9’s design and that is clearly revealed in the unboxing images which shows the device from different angles. As would be recalled, the X9 uses a fused antenna design just like the iPhone 7’s which sits at the edge of the phone. The rear camera is also tilted to the left corner at the upper edge while the LED flash is located beside it. The device also features super narrow bezels at the edges around the display and comes flat at only 6.99mm thick, weighing 154g.

The X9 features a 20MP + 8MP selfie camera combination, each sitting at either side of the earpiece. There is also soft flash for illumination. There is equally a capacitive home button and it functions as the fingerprint sensor.

Aside the unboxing images, the Vivo X9 also got the teardown treatment which unveils the internals and hardware. The teardown images shows the X9 might just be easily to repair if faulty. Also, the device is revealed to pack a non-removable battery.

Ahead of its launch slated for later today, the Vivo X9 has featured in a set of leaked renders courtesy of popular tipster @kjuma. The renders show the device having a white-colored front face around the display while it comes with silver color at the back, which is most likely one of its color variants.

The front view render shows the device’s most potent offering which is the front dual camera, with both sensors sitting at one side of the front earpiece while the proximity sensor is at the other end. The device is also shown to have a physical home button at the front which would likely function as a fingerprint scanner.

At the back, the main camera is located at the top left corner of the device, with an LED flash lying at its side. The Vivo X9 also comes with an antenna band design that is similar to those on the iPhone 7. We are beginning to see more devices adopting this form of antenna band design, by the way. The phone also features a design with narrow bezels around the display screen.

We had earlier seen the key specifications of the Vivo X9 and X9 Plus via a leaked box casing. However as a reminder, the X9 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and an unspecified Snapdragon processor which is tipped to be the Snapdragon 625 chip. Vivo is launching its dual-camera toting Vivo X9 and Vivo X9 Plus tomorrow and less than 24 hours to the launch, the X9 has appeared on GeekBench, revealing new details of the new phone.

The GeekBench specs are no different from the specifications which were leaked last week. The only new details are the confirmation of the SoC in the phone and its performance scores.

The benchmark test shows the Vivo X9 is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 (msm8953) octa-core chip clocked at 2.0GHz. There is 4GB of RAM and it is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.

Moving to test scores, the phone nets 954 points in the single-core test and 5070 points in the multi-core test.

Vivo is set to launch two new phones, the Vivo X9 and Vivo X9 Plus on the 16th of November. News of the upcoming devices have been in circulation for weeks now and one feature that has been confirmed is the use of dual-front facing cameras akin to what you have on the LG V10. However, the full configuration of both phones have been leaked online, confirming previous leaks and revealing new details.

Vivo X9

The Vivo X9 will have a 5.5” Full HD display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and an unspecified snapdragon processor. The front facing cameras are a combination of a 20MP sensor and an 8MP sensor with soft light, and there is a 16MP shooter on the rear.

The Vivo X9 will have a 3050mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner,and a dedicated AK4376 HiFi audio chip. The bands supported have also been listed as: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8, B38, B39, B40, and B41.

Vivo X9 Plus

The Vivo X9 Plus is not only bigger with a larger 5.88-inch FHD screen, but also sports a 6GB RAM, and a larger 4000mAh battery. Storage is the same at 64GB and the processor is Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 653. It has the same camera setup as the X9 but uses dual HiFi audio chips (ES9018+ES9603). Band support is no different too.

The camera samples are clear selfie shots of a beautiful lady in different equally beautiful background settings.  The selfie shots are very clear with all details rendered in perfect natural outlook. The images are devoid of grains or image noise even though one of them was shot inside a house while the other one was outdoors. The lady’s skin color also came out very clear and natural, as well as other features and contours on her body. All these were achieve because the Vivo X9 uses the latest beauty algorithm.

The front camera is a dual setup, so we expect to see the bokeh effect and it did come out very well. A cool background blur could be seen on both images. In addition, the camera seem to have a very efficient focus.

A week ago, a source leaked that Vivo was planning a launch for two new phones: the Vivo X9 and Vivo XPlay 6. An official poster released by the phone maker already confirms that of the Vivo X9.

The image which shows two camera sensors verifies the info provided by the source that Vivo is also going the dual camera route with their new phone. Quite a number of manufacturers based in China have released dual-camera phones this year. Some have been spectacular and others have been sort of just there. But it’ll be interesting to see how Vivo’s new device performs against the competition.

The text on the poster when translated features two prominent words the words ”Jiu” and ”Mirror”, the first which means nine hints at the model of the phone and the latter which is most likely describing the cameras’ prowess, since only a mirror has the ability to perfectly reproduce what is in front of it. And since the dual-cameras are in front, it could mean they’ll provide mirror quality selfies.

Another detail leaked is that the Vivo X9 will feature smart Hi-Fi audio to provide owners with top notch music experience.

The Vivo X9 is expected to launch on the 17th of November and feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 653 chip. Other details haven’t been made known yet, but be rest assured we’ll keep you informed once they are revealed.

Renders of the upcoming Vivo X9 have been posted online. There is a larger version said to be called the X9 Plus beside it. The render shows four circles in pairs of two flanking the top speaker: two of which are the dual cameras; the third should be the proximity sensor; and the last is most definitely a front flash.

We can also see that the Vivo X9 has it’s audio jack at the bottom, left of the charging port. The rear camera and LED flash are positioned on the top left corner of the phone and there are antenna lines running along the curves on the top and bottom.

An image of the specification of one of the cameras has also been released. The sensor is said to be a  20MP snapper supplied by Sony. The other one is rumoured to be an 8MP shooter.

BBK Electronics is the parent company that owns OPPO and Vivo, two of the leading phone manufacturers in China. But even though they are sister companies, that doesn’t mean they are not competitors. They both have to fight for customers’ money. OPPO just released the OPPO R9s and OPPO R9s Plus, and Vivo is not wasting time and are already on their heels. The company has announced that they will be releasing the Vivo X9 and Vivo XPlay 6 come November 17.

Vivo X9

Vivo, like OPPO is known for focusing on camera performance when it comes to their phones and the Vivo X9 and Xplay 6 are not going to be any different. The Vivo X9 will succeed the Vivo X7 (skipping the X8) released back in June which is surprising as it is not even six months old yet.

An employee of the company has posted on Weibo that the unique selling point of the Vivo X9 will be its dual front facing cameras. No technical details about the front cameras have been released yet though. The rear camera will also be an upgraded version of Sony’s IMX260 sensor.

Vivo used the Snapdragon 652 for the Vivo X7, so there’s a possibility they might fit the X9 with the new Snapdragon 653 from Qualcomm. November 17 is still a good 3 weeks from now, so expect more details to be released soon.

Vivo Xplay 6

The XPlay 6 on the other hand will take over from the XPlay 5. While the latter does have a 6GB version (world’s first 6GB phone) with a Snapdragon 820 Chip, there is also a 4GB RAM version with a SD652 SoC. The company might employ the same tactic for the XPlay 6 by releasing a Snapdragon 821 elite version and a Snapdragon 653 standard edition.

In a leaked string of messages exchanged between a source and another individual, it is mentioned that the XPlay 6 will feature a ceramic body similar to what Apple is working on for the iPhone 8.
