In the previous week, Vivo had launched the Vivo V11 smartphone as Vivo Z3i smartphone in China. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has announced the more powerful Vivo Z3 smartphone as the successor for the Vivo Z1 phone that was unveiled in May this year.

Vivo Z3 Specifications and Features

The Vivo Z3 boasts a premium appeal with glass panels on its front and rear and a metallic frame in between. The handset measures 155.97 x 75.63 x  8.1mm. It houses a 6.3-inch IPS LCD screen with waterdrop notch. The display supports Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The smartphone offers a screen space of 90.3 percent.

The Vivo Z1 featured the Snapdragon 660 chipset. Its successor has arrived in two CPU variants. The base model of the Vivo Z3 features Snapdragon 670 whereas its two higher variants are fueled by Snapdragon 710 chipset. It comes with up to 6 GB of RAM and an inbuilt storage of up to 128 GB. For additional storage, there is a microSD card slot on the device.

The FunTouch OS 4.5 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo OS is available preinstalled on the Vivo Z3. The Chinese manufacturer has included Jovi AI assistant on the phone. For optimized performance, the Vivo Z3 is equipped with Dual-Turbo engine that accelerates the performance of the device while accessing system apps and games. The Z3 phone also promises smooth gaming experience as it comes with a dedicated gaming mode with DND. Other gaming related features available on the smartphone are Picture-in-Picture mode, game keyboard and 4D game shock.

In terms of photography, the Vivo Z3 has 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel AI smart dual camera. The waterdrop notch houses the 12-megapixel selfie camera. The handset is packed with AI-based photography features like scene detection, bokeh shots and low-light photography.

The presence of IR camera allows the phone to support face unlock even in dim-light conditions. The handset is also equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Vivo Z3 receives power to perform from a 3,315mAh battery that is coupled with dual-engine flash charging technology. The connectivity features available on the Z3 are dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, microUSB, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack.

Vivo Z3 Pricing and Release Date

Here are the three variants of the Vivo Z3 along with their pricing:

• Snapdragon 670, 4 GB RAM + 64 GB Storage – 1,598 Yuan (~$230)
• Snapdragon 710, 6 GB RAM + 64 GB Storage – 1,898 Yuan (~$274)
• Snapdragon 710, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB Storage – 2,298 Yuan (~$332)

The Vivo Z3 is available on pre-sale in China and it will be available for buying from 00:00AM on Nov. 1. The handset can be availed in color variants such as Starry Night Black, Dream Pink and Aurora Blue. The latter two are color gradient versions. As of this writing, there is no confirmation on the international availability of the Vivo Z3.

Vivo had launched the Snapdragon 660 chipset powered Vivo Z1 smartphone in the previous month. Its base model was introduced with a price tag of 1,798 Yuan (~$276). Within a month of making it available for buying in the home country, the Chinese manufacturer has slashed its price by 200 Yuan (~$30).

With the new price cut of 200 Yuan (~$30), the Z1’s cost has been reduced to 1,598 Yuan (~$245). It is yet to be confirmed whether the newly introduced discount on the smartphone is temporary or permanent.

The Vivo Z1 that has a glass rear features a 6.28-inch IPS LCD screen that supports an aspect ratio of 19:9 as it produces FHD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The 14nm Snapdragon 660 chipset that is equipped with a 2.2 GHz octa-core processor powers the phone.

The Z1 comes in three models such as 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM, 64 storage + 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. The handset also features a microSD card slot. It is loaded with FunTouch OS 4.0 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo.

The backside of the Vivo Z1 houses a vertical dual camera setup that includes 13-megapixel primary sensor and 2-megapixl secondary sensor. For snapping selfies, it has a camera of 24-megapixel. The handset receives power from 3,260mAh battery.

A fingerprint scanner is available on the rear panel of the Vivo Z1. It also carries support for face unlock. The handset can be availed in color choices like Black, Red and Blue.

While the smartphone carries a price tag of 1,798 Yuan (approximately $282), the company is currently offering a discount of 200 Yuan, making the phone’s effective price 1,598 Yuan. It is available in three color options – Black, Blue, and Red.

The Vivo Z1 comes with a 6.26-inch Full-Screen display with a screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio and a trendy notch on top. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 660 AIE processor — the same chipset that is found inside company’s flagship Vivo X21 and X21 UD.

The Snapdragon 660 is manufactured using the 14nm design process and has Kryo 260 architecture, with octa-core CPU with clock speed of 2.2GHz, coupled with Adreno 512 graphics processor. The phone packs 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot, which enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.

On the optics front, the smartphone comes with a dual camera setup on the back, consisting of a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. The camera sensors are stacked vertically in the top-left corner. Vivo announced out of the blues recently the emergence of a new Z series with the Vivo Z1 coming as the first smartphone under the new series. The Chinese tech giant has now launched the Vivo Z1 today in China. The Z1 has even gone on sale earlier today in China with a decent price tag starting at 1,798 Yuan (~$282).

The Vivo Z1 comes with a superior hardware configuration and design which seems to further compound our confusion as to what the right definition of a midrange/flagship smartphone is. The device features a 6.26-inch Full-view In-cell LCD display with an 89.53% screen-to-body ratio. The full-screen design is further enhanced with a notch design which trims much of the bezel at the top leaving the part with the cut-out. This is obviously to give users a more stunning visual experience. The device is near bezel-less at the sides while it has a minimal amount of bezel at the bottom edge. The frame is narrow with a 19:9 aspect ratio which takes into account the notch. The device has an ultra-slim body which is just 7.79mm thick.

The Vivo Z1 rear design is also spectacular looking with its metal body. The body comes in pretty attractive colour options – Black, Blue and Red. The design of the fuselage is curved at the edges (3D arc) making it easy for users to firmly grip the phone. The device packs a dual camera setup at its rear which is arranged vertically at the top left corner. There is an LED flash at the bottom of the lenses. The device also packs a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor at the middle. Just under the fingerprint sensor is the Vivo logo. In addition, the antenna band is well hidden at the back that it is hardly noticeable.

Configuration wise, the Vivo Z1 rear camera consists of a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for bokeh. There is also PDAF and AI smart camera feature. On the front side, there’s a 24-megapixel ultra-high pixel shooter with AI beauty technology, AI background blur, AR cute shooting and other features to meet the need of selfie lovers. The selfie shooter also comes with facial recognition feature which can detect up to 1024 feature dimensions of the face. 

On the driving seat is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and there is 64GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD. The Vivo Z1 equally comes with dual SIM slots and a separate slot for microSD card. The two SIM slots support 4G VoLTE technology. The SIM tray is position on the left side of the display while the power button and volume rockers are placed on the right side. The bottom edge has the 3.5mm audio jack, speakers and micro-USB interface.

The Vivo midrange phone runs on TouchOS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and gets power from a 3260mAH battery. With the highly efficient SD660 chipset onboard, the device should be able to use less power while delivering high on performance. The Z1 also has a built-in Jovi AI Assistant. Jovi can actively understand the user’s habits and provide the user with the most suitable solution after learning. A few days ago, Vivo announced that it will launch a new smartphone series. The first of the smartphone series will be the Vivo Z1 which will be announced tomorrow.

Today, the Chinese manufacturer released a new teaser poster that revealed that the Vivo Z1 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 AIE processor. This is the same chipset found in Vivo’s X21 and X21 UD flagships.

The rest of the specs are still unknown but the two teasers Vivo has released so far show that the Z1 will also have a notch in its display and a small bezel at the bottom.

Vivo has revealed via its official flagship store Weibo account that it would be launching a new Z-series smartphone dubbed Vivo Z1 soon. The smartphone is going to be a thousand yuan machine which means it is a low-end mid-range model but the post teases the device as coming with a surprise in that the smartphone will beat our imaginations.

The Vivo Z series is a new series which will have the Z1 as its first model. The X series is Vivo’s flagship series, the Y series houses budget models and the new Z series is likely to fall in-between, joining the V series which is also a midrange series.  From the render on the poster accompanied the Weibo post, we can gather that the Z1 will come with a full-screen design. The design also includes a notch at the top which will house the selfie camera and earpiece. That means the device will have a 19:9 aspect ratio. If the device comes out as it is on the poster, we could be looking at high screen ratio of up to 90% or more. The bezels at the top at off as a result of the notch while the bottom bezel is ultra-thin.

Nothing is revealed about the specifications the device would pack but we expect an interesting lineup. According to the poster, the device will go official on May 25 and would be sold on Jingdong (JD.com), Tmall, Suning Tesco and Vipshop.
