Xiaomi is all set to join the likes of Huawei and OPPO by releasing a gradient version of its latest smartphone. The company will release the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth edition, a striped down version of the flagship Mi 8 targeted at young generation. The phone will be cheaper (~1999 Yuan which comes to ~$290) and more attractive than the flagship versions thanks to its special gradient color options. The company has already teased the two graident color options to be available at launch: Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Fantasy Blue and Twilight Gold. However, just a few minutes ago, Xiaomi‘s co-founder and president, Lin Bin shared a couple of quality renders of the two gradient versions. Check them out down below.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Gradient colors

The Mi 8 Youth Twilight Gold gradient version is an interesting color shade, starting from a pink hue at the top, slowly blending into a gold hue moving to the bottom. We have seen a lot of blue and purple gradient shades before, so this is really a refreshing color option for the new model.

The Mi 8 Youth has a Fantasy Blue gradient option as well, featuring strong shades of blue and purple unlike the subtle appearance of the Twilight Gold edition. From the render, it looks like we could see slightly different shades of blue and purple at different angles, something like that on the Honor 10 Phantom Blue edition.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Specs

We have already covered Mi 8 Youth’s specs before, but to recap, these are the expected features of the device.

The phone will feature a SD710 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (via TENAA). There should be a large 6.26-inch 2280 x 1080p display on board with a notched 19:9 aspect ratio. Other features include 3250mAh battery with QC 3.0 support, AI features, and a competitive 1999 Yuan ($~290) price tag.

Expect more details in the coming days. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth launches on September 19, the same day we meet the Meizu 16X alongside a new audio accessory.

Finally, going with the new trends, Xiaomi has announced its first gradient colored device, and is slated for launch on September 19th.

There are some changes that are present in the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth edition over the Xiaomi Mi 8. The new version packs horizontal dual camera shooter, rather than the vertical on Mi 8. Further, it will come in 32GB/64GB/128GB of internal storage variants and user can expand it via expandable hybrid slot. It packs a fingerprint sensor on the backside of the device as like of the OnePlus 6.

In camera department, Xiaomi has added a primary dual shooters of 12 megapixel + 12 megapixel on the rear with AI support for portrait mode, and scene recognition. Kris Wu, also known as Wu Yifan, is a famous Chinese actor and singer who was a Xiaomi’s brand ambassador last year: back then, the company launched a special edition of the Mi Note 3 upper-midranger dedicated to him. Now, a photo shared on Weibo is showing Kris Wu with a Xiaomi phone never seen before in his left hand. According to the latest reports and leaks, the phone held by Wu Yifan is Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth, a cheaper version of the recently-launched Mi 8 with upper-midrange specs.

We can clearly see the handset in a cool gradient color with hues similar to the Aurora color variant of the Huawei P20 Pro. The color starts from a greenish blue on the upper part of the rear panel and it seems to become purple on the lower part. The alleged Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth seems to have a glass back and an aluminum frame. It is clearly noticeable that it is equipped with a dual camera setup placed horizontally, with a LED flash on its right side. The Mi 8 Youth was already certified in China by the known regulatory agency TENAA and its launch should be imminent in the country. But TENAA did not reveal many details about its specs: it only listed its memory configurations and colors.

From what TENAA suggested, Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth will be available in Space Gray, Gold, and Blue colors, to which you have to add this new gradient hue. It will be released in at least three memory configurations: one with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, one with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB ROM and a third version with 6 and 128 GB. Alongside this variant, TENAA also listed a Screen Fingerprint Edition of the Mi 8 with an in-display fingerprint reader, coming in Black and Gold colors and 2 memory configurations: 6/128 GB and 8/128 GB.

In case you don’t know, this city is famous for its giant pandas, thanks to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base where tourist can get access and interact with these cute creatures.

The company released a new poster an hour ago via its weibo handle to confirm the event at Chengdu but failed to give out any specific details. However, the teaser poster kind of confirms that the event is for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition. If you look closely at the picture, there’s a smartphone in the pot down below. We can see that the phone has dual cameras arranged horizontally, which is identical to the design of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth edition that we saw in TENAA images a couple of days back.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth edition is said to come with a 6.26-inch 2280 x 1080 pixel resolution display and Snapdragon 710 chipset inside. There should be 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with a 3350mAh battery on board. As for the cameras, there should be a 12+5MP sensor at the back and a large 24MP sensor up front for selfies.
