Previous reports have revealed that MediaTek will be concentrating on low-end Helio P series chipsets in this year as it high-end SoCs have met with lukewarm response not only from its clients but also from the end users. The company is reportedly working on Helio P40 and Helio P70 chipsets that are rumored to get unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in the coming month. These chipsets will be reportedly powering the forthcoming low-budget phones from Xiaomi, Meizu, Vivo and other domestic brands. Fresh information suggests that the Helio P38 is also an upcoming low-budget chipset from the company.

The rumor mill had leaked the details of MediaTek Helio P40 and Helio P70 chipsets at the end of the previous month. Among these, the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset has spotted with an impressive benchmarking score of 157,000 on AnTuTu. Reports claim that it has been designed to take on the upcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset by Qualcomm.

Apart from Helio P40 and Helio P70, the company is also expected to announce the Helio P38 chipset in the near future. It will be slightly lower performing chipset compared to the Helio P40. The Helio P38 octa-core chipset is expected to feature four cores of Cortex A73 and four cores of Cortex A53. It will deliver a maximum clocking speed of 1.8 GHz. The better performing Helio P40 promises to deliver processing speeds of 2.0 GHz.

The octa-core processor of the Helio P38 will be coupled with Mali-G72 MP3 graphics with a reduced clocking speed of around 700 MHz or 650 MHz. Even though the Helio P38 is said to be a lower frequency chipset, it has been reportedly built to consume less power and produce less heat. Hence, it is speculated that in terms of performance like gaming, it may even outperform the Helio P40 or P70.

MediaTek Helio P38 chipset is rumored to take on the Snapdragon 632 that may power the Redmi Note 5. It is speculated that the Helio P38 driven smartphones will be carrying a price tag of 799 Yuan.
