Huawei is actively working on its foldable smartphone. Recent reports have revealed that the smartphone will be also equipped with 5G connectivity. Scouring through IP documents, Android Headlines has claimed that the upcoming foldable phone from Huawei will carry Mate branding. Moreover, it has also revealed that the Chinese manufacturer is pondering over four names like Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi and Mate Fold for it.

The publication has revealed that Huawei has already trademarked the above names in multiple jurisdictions. What’s not known is which among of these four names will be used for its first foldable smartphone. Since the smartphone is slated to go official in February, it is likely that the actual name of the phone could leaked only few days before its announcement.

Unlike the fold-in design of the Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone, Huawei is rumored to use fold-out design for its smartphone with flexible display. Huawei will be using the flexible OLED panels supplied by China’s BOE display maker for its foldable smartphone.

A recent report has revealed that the Chinese manufacturer has already showcased the final product to South Korean carriers. It is believed that South Korea and the U.S. will be the first markets to receive Huawei’s foldable smartphone.

Very few details on the specifications of the smartphone have surfaced so far. When unfolded, Huawei’s foldable smartphone will offer a large screen area of 8 inches and when folded, it will offer a display are of 5 inches. In comparison, the outer screen of Samsung’s foldable phone will of 4.6 inches and its inner main display will be of 7.3 inches. For 5G connectivity, the Huawei’s foldable phone is expected to feature Balong 5000 5G modem.

Huawei may use the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech expo platform to announce its foldable phone. It is expected to arrive in South Korea, the U.S. China, Japan and select European markets by Q2 or Q3 2019.
