One feature that may appear in notebooks that will be released next year is 4K OLED displays as a Korean publication has reported that Samsung has successfully developed 4K OLED displays for notebooks.

According to the source, the panels which are manufactured by Samsung Display will come in 13.3”, 14” and 15.6” sizes – the common display sizes for computers. It also says Samsung will adopt the display for use in its own notebooks and is also in talks with HP, Dell, and Lenovo.

The 4K OLED displays are said to be thin, have wide viewing angles and low levels of blue light. Samsung is expected to showcase the first notebooks with 4K OLED panels as early as CES 2019 which is about a month away.

A lot of manufacturers are expected to adopt OLED displays for their computers net year as the price between LCD displays and OLED displays are said to be closing. For example, Samsung’s 15.6-inch LCD display costs about $50 to $60 less than an OLED equivalent. PC manufacturers can make double or even triple the cost by adding OLED panels to high-end models.
