Huami is quite serious about taking on Apple, the biggest wearable manufacturer right now. The company’s upcoming square-shaped Amazfit smartwatch is inspired by the Apple Watch series but takes things to a new level by incorporating a 341 PPI display. Today, Huami revealed one important feature of this display: It’s going to be a custom panel.

We have seen smartphones like the OnePlus 7 Pro use custom display panels but it isn’t common among smartwatches. But Huami being a wearable focused brand is using all its resources to take its smartwatches to a new level. The company confirmed today that it has worked with the screen maker JDI to develop the display for the upcoming square Amazfit smartwatch.

What’s more, at the same launch event on August 27, we’ll meet yet another Amazfit smartwatch, the Pace 3. Huami’s CEO confirmed that the Pace 3 will feature a transflective display as its predecessor which will be a fully circular 1.34-inch sized screen. But this Pace 3 display will be a custom panel developed by JDI. So there will be two Huami smartwatches in total that’ll feature a custom JDI display panel this month.
