Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-generation rugged smartphone dubbed the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro. The device has leaked in its entirety and also appeared on multiple certification sites hinting at an imminent launch.

However, the company has not forgotten about its current-gen rugged devices as the Samsung Galaxy X Cover 5 has started receiving the One UI 4.1 update. The Galaxy X Cover 5 launched back in March 2011 with an Android 11-based operating system. Now, Samsung has skipped the One UI 4.0 on the device and directly updated it to Android 12-based One UI 4.1.

The update comes with the firmware number G525FXXU5BVE5 and brings along the latest android, May 2022 security patch, and around 80 privacy and security fixes. Other than that, the update brings a revamped UI design and Material You-based theming that lets users pick a color from their wallpaper and apply it across the UI of their smartphone. One UI 4.1 also features new widgets and multiple dark modes to choose from. Among all these features, the most notable are the privacy-related changes that now let users know when their camera and microphone are active through a prompt. Additionally, users now also get a toggle to enable or disable camera and microphone access on a system-wide level right from the quick settings shade.

If you are a Galaxy Xcover 5 user in Europe, you can download and install the Android 12 update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install.
