Nothing is ready to launch its second smartphone, the Phone (2), this summer, and it is shaping up to be a decent option in the premium mid-range. The device will be powered by the older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which is a big leap from last year’s Snapdragon 778G+. Additionally, the startup has now confirmed a larger battery and display for the smartphone while also highlighting the sustainable steps it took in the device’s production. And yes, it seems the company did a lot more than just removing the charger from the box.

Nothing Phone (2) gets better specs while remaining sustainable

Nothing detailed on Twitter that Phone (2) has an SGS-certified carbon footprint of 53.45kg, which is claimed to be over 5 kg lower than Phone (1). The company calls it an impressive feat since it has managed to achieve a 200mAh increase in battery and a screen that is 0.15″ bigger than the original model. This means the Nothing Phone (2) will boast a 6.7-inch display. While we are not sure what kind, you can expect it to be an OLED screen. The battery on the device will be 4,700mAh.

The charging capabilities of the device are still anyone’s guess but don’t expect a charger in the box. This is because smartphone companies are committed to saving the planet by no longer including wall chargers and earbuds in boxes. Although one might argue that this move saves a company’s money but not the planet. This trend was started by Apple and many manufacturers followed the lead. Even the Carl Pei-lead startup Nothing went ahead and removed the charger from the Phone (1) box and will continue to do so with the Phone (2).

Just like its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (2) will be get 3 years of major Android OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates. Nothing has taken several other steps to make sure the device has less environmental footprints. You can read about them here.
