iQOO is gearing up to launch the Z7 Pro 5G smartphone in India on August 31. On the same date, the brand also plans to introduce the iQOO Z8 series smartphones in China. The series consists of two devices: the iQOO Z8 and the iQOO Z8x. These devices will debut in the mid-range segment with some similar specs, however, there will also be some major differences between the two. Let’s explore what’s known so far about these devices in detail.

Design & display

So far, iQOO has confirmed the design of the Z8 smartphone, however, the design of the Z8x is yet to be unveiled. The iQOO Z8 has quite a simplistic design with a rectangular camera module and two large camera lenses. The back and edges of the device are curved. Teasers have also revealed that the device will come in three color options: White, Black, and Light Blue.

Up front, both devices will feature a flat display that measures 6.64 inches. It will be an LCD panel with an FHD+ resolution of 2388 x 1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. In addition to that, the brand has also teased eye care features, so we can expect the devices to have PMM dimming and a blue light filter. Lastly, the smartphones will feature a centered punch-hole camera with slim bezels all around.

Performance

As it’s well-known, the iQOO Z series predominantly caters to budget-conscious gamers with a focus on delivering exceptional performance. This latest release continues this tradition by incorporating robust processors. In particular, the Z8 model boasts the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset, a renowned and potent mid-range gaming processor. Notably, iQOO has officially validated that the Z8 achieved an impressive score of over 980,000 points on the AnTuTu benchmark, a testament to its anticipated ability to deliver seamless gaming performance.

For example, the brand claims that the device is able to support 120FPS in Honor of Kings, and the average FPS in a 1-hour gameplay test was 119FPS, which makes its performance quite stable. It is likely that this is due to the 3002mm² cooling system onboard, which has increased by 25% since the last generation.

On the other hand, the iQOO Z8x is said to come with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset. Both the devices will feature 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, however, the Z8 model will get storage options up to 512GB, whereas the Z8x will come with up to 256GB storage.

It is confirmed that the Z8 will have 120W fast charging, likely paired with a 5,000mAh battery. On the other hand, we can expect a 6,000mAh battery on the Z8x paired with 44W fast charging. It is worth noting that the iQOO Z7x debuted with a 6,000mAh battery and 80W fast charging, so the Z8x is basically getting a downgrade in this department.

Cameras & other features

Talking about photography, the iQOO Z8 is geared up with a 16-megapixel front camera for selfies and a dual-camera system on the back. The primary rear camera is 64 megapixels and has OIS (which helps prevent blurry photos), and there’s a 2-megapixel depth sensor to enhance portrait shots. On the other hand, the iQOO Z8x will come with an 8-megapixel selfie camera and a dual-camera system on the rear: a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel secondary one.

Both of these phones come loaded with features like OriginOS 3.0, which is based on the Android 13 platform. Furthermore, the devices will have a headphone jack (3.5mm), and a fingerprint scanner on the side for quick and secure unlocking.
