Samsung‘s Galaxy S24 Ultra has been plagued by camera issues since launch, and while the company has released a couple of minor updates, a major fix is incoming according to reliable tipster Ice Universe.

The insider in his latest X (formerly Twitter) post revealed that Samsung is currently testing a major software update in the form of One UI 6.1.1 specifically focused on addressing these camera problems. It’s said to be the largest update for the Galaxy S24 Ultra since its release and will include a multitude of camera-related improvements.

The tipster on X (formerly Twitter) suggested a July release timeframe for the update, coinciding with the launch of the foldable Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. However, a later post by Ice Universe on Weibo with the word “confirmed news” says that Samsung will roll out One UI 6.1.1 update for S24 Ultra in August.

Galaxy S24 Ultra users have reported various camera issues (via SamMobiles), including excessive noise in low-light sky areas, banding in sky portions of photos, overexposure in specific frame sections, and an oil painting effect at high zoom levels (10x and above).

Low-light video recording has also been a concern for some users, with reports of significant grain and noise. Whether this specific issue will be addressed by the upcoming update remains unclear.

It’s important to note that Samsung typically doesn’t release point-revision updates (like One UI 6.1.1) for its non-foldable phones. Therefore, Galaxy S24 Ultra users looking for camera improvements should focus on the upcoming July security update, which might pave the way for the larger camera-focused update in August.

With official information from Samsung still limited, users will need to wait for further announcements in the coming weeks to gain a clearer picture of the exact improvements and the update’s official release date.
