Lava is back with another budget phone. Just weeks after the Bold N2, the company has now introduced the Bold N2 Pro, and the “Pro” tag doesn’t follow the usual pattern here. Instead of going bigger or more expensive, the N2 Pro is actually a bit more compact and, in some ways, better balanced. It still sticks to 4G though, which might raise a few eyebrows.

The phone runs on the Unisoc T7250, a 12nm chip with Cortex-A75 and A55 cores, along with a Mali-G57 GPU. It should handle basic tasks like calling, messaging, online payments, and watching YouTube. There’s only one variant for now, 4GB RAM with 128GB storage.

On the front, you get a 6.67-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 720p+ resolution. It ships with Android 15, although Lava is promising just one major update and two years of security patches. That’s fairly standard for this price segment, nothing surprising there.

Battery capacity sits at 5,000mAh, with support for 18W charging. Slight catch though, the bundled charger is only 10W, so you won’t get the full speed unless you use a different adapter.

Cameras see a noticeable upgrade this time. There’s a 50MP main sensor on the back and an 8MP front camera, which is a decent jump over the 13MP+5MP setup of the standard N2. You also get IP54 protection, so basic dust and splash resistance is covered.

The new Vayu AI is a system-level assistant that Lava claims has emotional awareness. It also ships with Circle to Search and several other AI features.

The 50MP selfie camera sits right in the center hole-punch. Whereas the rear camera setup includes a 50MP main lens with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide-angle camera. Both front and rear cameras support 4K 60fps video recording.

From the design, it might look like the camera module has LEDs fitted in it; however, that’s not the case. It’s just a visual element. The back, though, is made of glass and frames from aluminium.

Apart from being India’s first phone with Dimensity 7060, the Storm Play packs standout hardware specs, like LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, which are not available in phones priced around Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000. I’ve spent a few days using the device as my secondary phone, and here’s a breakdown of how it performed in real-world use.

Design and build

Right out of the box, the Lava Storm Play gives off a vibe that’s both practical and stylish. I tested the device in its Dune Titanium finish, and it has a matte texture that does a good job resisting fingerprints. Despite its plastic back, it doesn’t feel cheap. The fit and finish are tighter than what I expected from a phone in this category.

The phone is relatively slim, considering it packs a 5,000mAh battery, and it felt comfortable to use one-handed, even though the 6.75-inch display pushes the size slightly toward the phablet category. The side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button is fast and accurate in daily use.

An underrated highlight is the IP64 dust and splash resistance rating. It does give peace of mind during Mumbai’s sudden monsoon showers or dusty commutes.

Display and Audio

The 6.75-inch HD+ LCD screen won’t blow you away with pixel density, but it compensates with a 120Hz refresh rate, which makes UI transitions feel fluid and responsive. Whether I was scrolling through Instagram or browsing Chrome, the high refresh rate gave the phone a more premium feel.

Even when gaming, titles like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty: Mobile ran at playable frame rates on medium settings. The phone did get a bit warm after 30 minutes of gaming, but nothing alarming.

Storage is a fast UFS 3.1 type, and that’s a pleasant surprise in this price bracket. It made app installs and file transfers noticeably snappier than on older eMMC-based phones. Its 5,000mAh battery can be charged using the in-box 18W charger via the USB-C port. The battery comfortably lasted me over a day with mixed use, around 6 to 7 hours of screen-on time.

Software is where Lava scores big. The phone runs on stock Android 15 with no bloatware, no adware, and no pre-installed third-party apps. It feels clean, snappy, and exactly how Android should be. Here’s how the device performed on benchmarking apps.

Camera and Other Features

The rear camera setup includes a flagship-class 50-megapixel primary Sony IMX752 sensor paired with a 2-megapixel depth camera. In daylight, the 50-megapixel sensor does a decent job. Colours are natural, and details are reasonably sharp if you don’t zoom in too much. HDR helps in backlit situations, though it can sometimes make photos look slightly overprocessed. In low light, the performance drops as expected, but the shots come out well if there is sufficient light.

The 8-megapixel front camera is fine for video calls and casual selfies. Skin tones can look a bit soft, but it’s serviceable for a phone in this range.

Connectivity is sorted with support for dual SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 5.3. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor also works reliably. However, the absence of a microphone on the top edge means it lacks a secondary mic for noise cancellation during calls and video recordings.

Final Thoughts

The Lava Storm Play aims to reinvent the budget 5G smartphone and does well enough to stand out. The clean Android 15 software, fluid 120Hz display, and respectable day-to-day performance make it a compelling choice for those who want a dependable phone without unnecessary frills.

Of course, the HD+ resolution feels like a compromise in 2025, and the low-light camera performance could use some work. But at this price point, especially if Lava keeps the updates coming and builds on this foundation, the Storm Play proves that Indian smartphone brands still have a strong game in the entry-level segment.

On the camera front, it features a 50MP primary sensor, and the official render shows a second rear camera. While there’s no confirmation yet, it’s likely a 2MP depth or bokeh sensor — or, if we’re lucky, maybe an ultrawide.

The official press render shows the Blaze Dragon in a beige colorway, but another tipster, Mukul Sharma, shared hands-on images of a sleek black variant. Interestingly, the camera module in the black version reflects a rainbow-like hue, giving it a distinct visual flair.

Up front, the Blaze Dragon goes with a waterdrop-style notch, expected for this tier. On the bright side, it keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is becoming rarer these days. Biometrics is handled by a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button.

As for the price, it is rumored to launch under Rs 10,000 in India. The Blaze AMOLED 2 will likely cater to a slightly higher segment. The devices are scheduled for launch on July 25—this Friday.

Lava may soon refresh its Agni smartphone line in India, and early signs suggest a new design direction for the upcoming Lava Agni 4. 91mobiles Hindi, in collaboration with tipster Yogesh Brar, has shared a render of the device to give a first look at its design. The leak hints at a simpler and more refined look and bids goodbye to the secondary rear display, which was seen on the Agni 3.

Lava Agni 4 design revealed

As per the report, the Lava Agni 4 will feature a horizontal camera module similar to the Google Pixel phones. It includes dual camera sensors placed vertically on either side of an LED flash. A metal frame surrounds the module, which appears slightly raised.

The back panel shown in the render appears white, with a uniform tone matching the frame. Unlike the Agni 3’s curved display, the Agni 4 seems to adopt a flat display design. Also, it does not seem to feature the customizable Action Key button that was seen on the previous generation.

Lava Agni 4 specifications (rumored)

On the display front, the device is expected to house a 6.7-inch FHD+ panel with 120Hz refresh rate, similar to its predecessor. Powering the phone could be the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset. This would mark a significant jump from the Dimensity 7300X used in the Agni 3. The new chip also supports UFS 4.0 storage for faster performance.

The camera setup might include a 50-megapixel dual-camera system, which could be seen as a step down from the Agni 3’s triple-camera setup with telephoto and ultra-wide sensors.

A major highlight of the Lava Agni 4 could be that it may pack a 7,000mAh+ unit, making it one of the largest in the segment. If true, it would outdo the 5,000mAh battery found in the Agni 3. Perhaps the most notable change is the jump to Android 15 out of the box, while the 4G model launched earlier this year still ships with Android 14. That said, other core features like the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD support remain unchanged.

Compared to the earlier Lava Shark (non-5G), the new model dials down a few aspects to accommodate the added network support. The older 4G variant had a 120Hz refresh rate, a higher-res 50MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing shooter. So while you’re getting 5G here, some trade-offs are apparent.
