ChatGPT will Now Remember Things You Talked About

OpenAI is making changes to ChatGPT that might just make your chats a lot smoother. They’re adding a memory feature, which means ChatGPT will be able to remember things about you and your past conversations. And yes, the memory could include everything you’ve divulged to the chatbot in the past.

This will help make the chatbot interactions sound more personal

You won’t have to repeat yourself every time you chat. ChatGPT can either remember details you directly tell it to keep in mind, or it can learn about you gradually as you use it more. This is aimed at making your interactions with the bot feel more personal and less like you’re starting from scratch each time.

ChatGPT

This memory isn’t just a blanket feature; it’s specific to each version of GPT you use. So, if you’re using a movie recommendation bot, it’ll remember what movies you’ve watched and what genres you like, or what directors you prefer. This could make a lot of other tools more useful, too, like helping you plan your studies or keeping track of your fitness progress.

However, the idea of a chatbot remembering details about users has its downsides. There’s a fine line between helpful and intrusive, and OpenAI knows this. They’ve made it so you can check what the bot remembers about you, ask it to forget certain things, or adjust settings in the Manage Memory section. There’s also a Temporary Chat option for those times you want to chat without leaving a memory trace.

By default, this memory feature will be on, and OpenAI plans to use these memories to improve how ChatGPT works in the future. But for now, it’s just being tested with a small group of users.

It’s exciting to think about how this memory feature will make our interactions with ChatGPT more personalized. The idea is to get a chatbot that feels more like an assistant who knows you, rather than a tool you need to remind every time.

Mozilla Lays Off 60 Employees – After Naming a New CEO

Mozilla, a name many of us know for the Firefox browser, is changing things up. They’re saying goodbye to 60 people on their team, which is about 5% of their staff. This change mostly affects those who work on making their products. The company is looking to put more energy and resources into certain projects, like making Firefox work better on mobile phones and exploring the world of artificial intelligence (AI).

This is one of the many tech layoffs that have affected the global jobs scenario

In a world where tech companies often have to adjust their sails to keep moving forward, Mozilla’s decision to let some of its team go reflects a bigger plan. They’re choosing to invest more in the areas they believe will help them grow and make a bigger impact in the tech scene.

AI is getting a lot of attention these days, and Mozilla doesn’t want to be left behind. They see a big opportunity to make Firefox smarter with AI, especially after buying a company called Fakespot. This move shows Mozilla is serious about making the internet a better place, where it’s easier to find what you’re looking for without running into fake stuff.

Mozilla is also tidying up its range of projects. While some, like their VPN and a privacy tool, are getting less attention, others are being shut down completely. This lets Mozilla focus more on Firefox Mobile and AI—areas they’re really excited about.

The company is also welcoming a new CEO, Laura Chambers, who used to work at Airbnb, PayPal, and eBay. With her at the helm, Mozilla hopes to bring out products that not only do well in the market but also stick to their mission of making the internet a better place for everyone.

Apple Doesn’t Have to Open iMessage to Rivals After All, New EU Ruling States

A recent decision by the European Union (EU) has sparked conversations around the regulations of messaging apps, particularly focusing on Apple’s iMessage. The EU, after careful examination, concluded that iMessage doesn’t hold the “gatekeeper” status within Europe’s digital communication sphere. This term applies to platforms that control significant market power and, thus, have specific obligations for interoperability with third-party services. What’s more interesting is that users were nearly convinced that Apple would likely open up iMessage to its rival operating systems, but it seems like that isn’t happening anytime soon. More details here.

EU’s investigation sided with Apple in the end and is now closed.

Apple initially identified iMessage as falling under this category but later revised its stance, suggesting that the app’s usage in Europe didn’t meet the criteria for such a classification. The EU’s investigation into the matter, which also included Microsoft‘s Bing among others, has now been closed, agreeing with Apple’s argument. This means iMessage won’t be compelled to enable cross-platform communication with other messaging services.

apple

Interestingly, this decision arrives amidst Apple’s announcement to support Rich Communication Services (RCS) in iMessage by later 2024. RCS is touted as the next evolution in messaging technology, promising enhanced features over traditional SMS and MMS. Google has been a strong advocate for RCS, urging Apple to adopt this standard to facilitate smoother messaging experiences across Android and iOS devices.

While the EU’s ruling exempts iMessage from being labeled a gatekeeper, it doesn’t negate Apple’s influence in the digital marketplace, nor does it impact the ongoing oversight of Apple and Microsoft’s broader platform services. The EU maintains its vigilance, ready to reassess should market dynamics shift significantly.

A New GPU and Now, a New AI Chatbot? Nvidia is on a Roll, Launches ‘Chat with RTX’

Nvidia is on a roll! Yesterday, the company unveiled a whole new GPU, the RTX 2000 Ada. Now, the company has just come out with an early version of a new app called Chat with RTX, and it’s pretty exciting for anyone with a newer Nvidia graphics card. This app is all about letting your own computer do the heavy lifting when it comes to working with AI. You can throw YouTube videos and documents at it, and it’ll help you make sense of them, right there on your machine. The best part? You only need an Nvidia RTX 30- or 40-series GPU to get started.

Users only need an RTX 30 or 40 series GPU to get started with the locally-running chatbot

This tool could be a real time-saver, especially if you find yourself needing to dig through lots of information. Imagine being able to quickly get the gist of a video or find that needle in a haystack in a bunch of documents. That’s what Chat with RTX is promising. It is quite similar to other chatbots in the market, like Google‘s Gemini or OpenAI‘s ChatGPT.

NVIDIA Chat with RTX

It’s not perfect, though. Still, when it works, it’s a neat way to skip right to the parts you care about. Documents are where Chat with RTX really shines. It can zip through PDFs and other files, pulling out the important bits almost instantly. This could be a big deal for anyone who’s ever felt swamped by the amount of reading they need to do for work or school.

Now, it’s worth noting that Chat with RTX feels a bit like a work in progress. Setting it up takes a bit of patience, and it can be a resource hog. Plus, some kinks still need to be ironed out. For example, it’s not great at remembering what you’ve asked before, so each question has to start from scratch. These things will change quickly though, since NVIDIA is at the forefront of the AI revolution we’re all witnessing right now.

iPhone 16 series leak reveals all the models with a major design overhaul

Apple‘s upcoming iPhone 16 series is set to mark a notable shift in design and features, diverging from its predecessors with a fresh approach to its camera alignment and model lineup.

The latest leak from Majin Bu reveals a transition from the traditional horizontal camera setup to a more streamlined vertical alignment. This adjustment not only offers a sleek, minimalist aesthetic but also aligns the iPhone 16 series closer to the design sensibilities of contemporary Android devices.

Potential Design of iPhone 16 Models

iPhone 16 series design leak

According to the leak, the iPhone 16 series is expected to introduce five distinct models, broadening its range to cater to various market segments. The lineup includes the iPhone 16 SE, 16 Plus SE, iPhone 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. This expansion suggests a strategic merge of the iPhone SE product line into the broader iPhone 16 portfolio, hinting at Apple’s intention to offer more options to consumers at different price points.

The entry-level iPhone 16 SE and 16 Plus SE are anticipated to feature a dynamic island, a single camera setup, a 60Hz display, and a slightly reduced battery capacity. These models are poised to capture the budget-conscious segment.

Moving up the range, the standard iPhone 16 model is rumored to enhance the user experience with a 120Hz display, dual-camera system, and improved battery life, positioning it as an attractive option for the mid-range market.

At the top of the series, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to incorporate premium features, setting new benchmarks for performance and innovation in Apple’s smartphone offerings. Moreover, all the models (except SE models) are expected to come with larger batteries this time.

Apple has maintained the same iPhone design for several years without any significant refresh, dissatisfaction among consumers regarding this stagnation was evident during last year’s launch. With global sales soaring, Apple likely perceives now as an opportune moment to unveil a new design, anticipating that this move will not only meet consumer expectations but also drive further revenue growth.

The leakster also mentioned an iPhone model in testing, with a style similar to the iPhone XR, including a dynamic island and a color scheme similar to the iPhone 15. According to him, he first thought it was iPhone SE but now he is not sure about it.
