The Honor Magic 6 Lite smartphone was officially launched back in December. The smartphone has now made its way to the UK with a bunch of attractive early-bird offers. Let’s take a closer look at the phone’s specs, price, and availability.

Honor Magic 6 Lite Price and Availability

The Honor Magic 6 Lite will be available in the UK at £349.99 for the sole 8/256G variant. It comes in three colors — Midnight Black, Emerald Green, and Sunrise Orange. Notably, the Sunrise Orange version has a unique vegan leather finish, while the other two come with a matte finish.

For a limited time, Honor is offering a free HONOR Pad X8 (worth £99.99) and 12 months of free screen protection coverage with the purchase.

Specifications

Talking about the specs, the Magic 6 Lite sports a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1200 nits peak brightness. The screen also has 10-bit color depth, 1920Hz PWM dimming, and TUV Rheinland certification for low blue light.

The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC and has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

On the back, there’s a triple-camera system consisting of a 108MP main sensor, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, there’s a 16MP front-facing camera.

The Magic 6 Lite also has a number of features that make it durable and safe to use. It has a 5-star SGS certification for its frame, display, and internal components, and it also features HONOR’s Ultra-Bounce Anti-Bounce Drop protection.

The phone comes with a 5300mAh battery that supports 35W fast charging. Honor claims that the battery will last for up to 1000 recharge cycles before it starts to degrade.

As scheduled, Oppo has officially launched its latest Reno smartphones, the Reno 11 and Reno 11 Pro, in Malaysia. While similar to its Chinese counterpart in many aspects, the global variants come with a few key differences under the hood. Let’s go through the details.

Oppo Reno 11

The standard Reno 11 boasts a large 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ support. However, it gets a slightly less powerful processor, the MediaTek Dimensity 7050, instead of the Dimensity 8200 found in the Chinese version. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

The camera setup on the Reno 11 remains the same as the China model, featuring a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 32MP telephoto sensor. For selfies, it comes with a 32MP camera on a punch-hole cutout.

Moreover, it packs a 5000mAh battery — bigger than the China version which has a 4800mAh cell — and supports fast 67W SuperVOOC charging. Oppo claims the device can get fully juiced up in around 45 minutes.

Oppo Reno 11 Pro

The Reno 11 Pro opts for a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip used in the Chinese model. The memory option includes 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Although its display mirrors the standard Reno 11’s size and features — a 6.7-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color depth, and HDR10+ support — it is slightly less sharp than the Chinese Pro model at Full HD+ resolution. The camera configuration remains consistent with the China variant though, featuring a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 32MP telephoto camera, and a 32MP selfie camera.

Battery-wise, the Reno 11 Pro comes equipped with a 4600mAh battery, slightly less than the 4700mAh battery found in the Chinese version. The charging stays the same at 80W.

Price and Availability

Both phones are available now through Oppo’s online store, brand stores, and authorized dealers in Malaysia. The Reno 11 costs RM 2,199 and is available in Wave Green and Rock Grey colors, while the Reno 11 Pro is priced at RM 2,499 and is available in Pearl White and Rock Grey.

Realme is soon going to launch the Realme 12 Pro series this month in multiple markets. The most exciting feature of the series is that the 12 Pro will come equipped with a telephoto camera, whereas the 12 Pro+ will be equipped with a periscope telephoto camera. The company has now officially confirmed that the periscope zoom camera will be seen on the 12 Pro+ variant.

Realme Espana has confirmed that the Realme 12 Pro series will feature the Sony IMX890 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS support. Hence, it appears that the Realme 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ will both feature the IMX890 primary snapper. Other reports have revealed that both phones will have an 8-megapixel camera for ultra-wide shots.

While the 12 Pro+ will have a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, the Realme 12 Pro will have a 32-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. As far as selfie shots are concerned, the TENAA listings have revealed that the Pro model will have a 16-megapixel front camera, whereas the Pro+ will be equipped with a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

Bitcoin ETFs Gain Official Recognition From SEC

In simpler terms, the SEC has allowed the establishment of a Bitcoin investment fund. This makes Bitcoin an officially recognized investment tool, allowing people to invest in it not only through cryptocurrency exchanges but also through traditional ones. Now, individuals, banks, companies basically anyone can invest in cryptocurrency without being tied to crypto exchanges.

Of course, this decision took time to finalize. The recent approval of the Bitcoin fund was accidentally revealed on the SEC’s official Twitter account yesterday. Despite the deletion of the tweet and rumors of a hacked account, the decision confirms the accuracy of the shared information. Moreover, the financial industry had been anticipating the SEC’s approval of Bitcoin ETFs, and some attribute the recent surge to $47,000 to this development.

Although this decision could increase Bitcoin’s value, it’s important to highlight that the SEC clearly emphasizes the highly speculative nature of Bitcoin in their approval statement. And they are not wrong. It’s crucial to think carefully before running for “investment opportunity.” Yes, Bitcoin could indeed gain significant value after the decision. However, scenarios like millions of investors who have been waiting for profit for a long time selling billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin could lead you not to wealth but to bankruptcy. Apple‘s App Store in India has recently delisted ten crypto exchanges, including prominent ones like Binance and KuCoin, following directives from India’s Ministry of Finance due to non-compliance issues. This action is a part of India’s intensifying regulation of the cryptocurrency sector. The Indian Ministry of Finance’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) accused these exchanges of operating illegally in the country and failing to adhere to anti-money laundering regulations.

India’s Crackdown on Crypto Exchanges for Anti-Money Laundering and Tax Adherence

The FIU’s notification to the exchanges occurred on December 28, 2023, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was requested to enforce the block. The FIU mandates that exchanges operating in India must register as reporting entities and comply with income tax filing requirements. Other affected exchanges include Bitget, Huobi, Gate.io, OKX, Kraken, and MEXC.

This move is seen as an effort to enhance compliance with Indian laws, particularly following the imposition of taxes on digital asset incomes in 2022. Indian law requires a 30% tax on crypto holdings and transfers, along with a 1% tax at source for each trade. The crackdown on offshore exchanges aims to create a level playing field, as India continues to advocate for global collaboration in regulating the crypto sector. While local exchanges in India have been subject to stringent requirements, such as Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, foreign platforms have operated with less scrutiny.

In response to the decision, Binance South Asia reassured existing users that they would not be affected and expressed a commitment to comply with local regulations. Meanwhile, Apple has removed three offshore crypto exchanges from its App Store in India, and there is speculation that similar actions might follow on Google’s Play Store.

The finance ministry emphasizes that both offshore and onshore Virtual Digital Asset service providers in India must register with the Financial Intelligence Unit-India and comply with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. This compliance includes maintaining detailed KYC information and records of transactions with clients. The government’s stringent stance on crypto regulations, including heavy taxation and compliance mandates, has significantly impacted the trading volumes and operations of crypto exchanges in India.

One of the key highlights of CES 2024 is the Hisense ULED X TVs. Hisense has also showcased its Canvas TV and Kitchen of the Future during the annual tech event holding this year in Las Vegas.

The latest Hisense ULED X TV lineup is seen as class-leading mini-LED TVs and they come with some impressive specs. The Hisense Canvas TV is an art display when the TV is idle. The Hisense Kitchen of the Future is the brand’s latest smart home technology. The Hisense 110UX flagship TV has been announced as a CES 2024 Innovation Award recipient. Other models that have been showcased at CES 2024 are the new 98UX and 75UX ULED TVs. The new TVs are potentially more accessible but come with fewer dimming zones. The number of dimming zones of the 98UX and 75UX are about 10,000 and 5,000 respectively.

The Hisense 98UX is designed to deliver rich layers and flagship picture quality and has a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits. The 75UX holds the current record as the brand’s thinnest mini-LED TV with its thickness below 14mm.

Hisense’s ‘Kitchen of the Future’ will transform the kitchen to an entirely smart zone

The Hisense Canvas TV is Hisense’s response to current art-oriented TVs like the LG Wallpaper TV and Samsung’s The Frame TV. The Hisense Kitchen of the Future features an array of smart devices like the Smart Built-in Dishwasher and 4-Door Smart Refrigerator with Versa Temp Zone. The Dishwasher features Autodose and AutoDry. The Hisense Kitchen of the Future can be integrated to operate with other smart devices in the smart home ecosystem.

Hisense has not provided the optics for the release and pricing of the new ULED X TVs, Canvas TV, and Kitchen of the Future.

Leaked images suggest that the brand in question is Rolex, and Realme will be making a custom variant of the Realme 12 Pro+ smartphone featuring blue leather and gold accents on the back. The phone maker initially teased the collaboration, which revealed its partnership with luxury watch designer Ollivier Saveo, using a crown emoji reminiscent of the Rolex logo.

The leaked teaser image also hinted at a significant date, the 28th, on the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, suggesting a potential launch date of January 28. In addition to the luxury collaboration, the Realme 12 Pro series is anticipated to introduce a periscope camera, as revealed in various teasers. The company has secured certifications from TENAA, SIRIM, Indian BIS, and TDRA websites, setting the stage for the series launch in India in January.

That said, the Realme 12 Pro+ is tipped to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset. The device will likely have a 6.7-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display with a 16-megapixel camera in the front. As mentioned above, it will feature a periscopic telephoto camera, which is expected to be a 32MP sensor with 2x optical zoom. We can also expect a 50MP primary camera sensor, along with a 5,000mAh battery, 100W fast charging, and up to 16GB RAM onboard the device. More details will likely be confirmed as we get closer to the launch date, so stay tuned.

Resolution Ceiling for Nintendo Switch 2 May Hit 1080p/1440p Without DLA

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about Nintendo Switch 2 yet. However, one thing we do know is that it will incorporate the T239 chipset, which significantly outperforms the Nvidia Tegra X1 and X1+ found in current handhelds. The use of Nvidia technologies is crucial at this point because the issue goes beyond just graphics. Nintendo, aiming to prolong the console’s lifespan, wants to leverage artificial intelligence technologies like DLSS.

However, according to emerging information, the company is avoiding spending money on DLA (Deep Learning Accelerator) that directly influences DLSS performance. For those unfamiliar, DLA, or Deep Learning Accelerator, is a specialized processor designed to help GPUs perform deep learning tasks more efficiently. It is particularly critical for enhancing the performance of DLSS. DLSS renders the game image at a lower resolution and then uses DLA to recreate the image at a higher resolution.

This allows games to be displayed at higher resolutions with higher frame rates. In summary, DLA transforms DLSS into a more efficient and powerful technology, delivering better image quality. Unfortunately, the alleged T234 chip that the company is rumored to use does not support this technology. This directly implies that the handheld will not be able to provide a 4K 60 FPS gaming experience. If the claims are accurate, without DLA, Nintendo Switch 2 will be limited to running games at 1080p or at best 1440p resolution.

Unfortunately, we currently lack more information on this matter. Perhaps the only thing we can do is wait for new leaks and the console expected to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2024.

The new Philips smart deadbolt features palm sensing technology which allows the user to unlock the door by placing the palm close to the deadbolt.

The Philips smart deadbolt is part of the expanding Philips home security smart lock lineup and will be compatible with the Philips Home Access app. Using the app, users can remotely control the lock system in the house. It is also compatible with smart home assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.

The new product is Philips’ first-ever smart deadbolt security smart lock. It works using the touch-free palm reading system that allows the homeowner to unlock the door by bringing his palm forward. It automatically detects the unique palm vein patterns using built-in proximity sensors. The Philips smart home security ecosystem includes indoor and outdoor cameras, as well as monitors.

Palm sensing technology is an emerging innovation but several new products are now featuring the technology. The Philips 5000 Series Wi-Fi Palm Recognition Smart Deadbolt will go on sale in the US later in the year. The gadget will retail for $360 in the US but there is no global availability information yet on the product. However, it is expected that the Philips smart deadlock could also berth in a few other markets.
