Oppo A59 5G Launching “Soon” in India

Oppo is preparing to launch the Oppo Find X7 series and Oppo Pad Neo in China, but out of surprise, the Oppo A59 5G is also “coming soon” in India. The company took to X.com to officially confirm the new smartphone launch in India via a poster teaser. There are scarce details about the Oppo A59 5G, as it only appeared on Bluetooth SIG and BIS before the official announcement. There are hardly any leaks or rumors detailing its specifications or features.

However, the poster confirms a dual-rear camera with an LED flash. There’s a dew-drop notch on the front side, and a power button is present on the right bump of the smartphone. Further, it will be the 5G smartphone, which could run the Dimension 6100 SoC. The shiny gold color is quite evident in the poster.

The Oppo A59 5G has already made it to Bluetooth and BIS with model code PCH2617. The Bluetooth SIG confirms the presence of the Bluetooth 5.3 version, while the BIS confirms the smartphone’s launch in India. The smartphone appears to feature considerable upgrades over its predecessor, the Oppo A58 5G.

The Oppo A58 5G made its debut last year in November, featuring a large 6.56-inch IPS LCD with 280 nits of brightness and 720 x 1612 pixels of resolution. The smartphone bundles the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC with 6GB RAM + 128GB, 8GB RAM + 128GB, and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage options. It embeds a dual-rear camera comprising a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. An 8MP camera is present on the front for selfies and video calling. Further, it comprises a 5000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging. In terms of connectivity, the Oppo A58 5G bundles dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3, and USB Type-C 2.0.

We expect more details to surface via new teasers before the official launch.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus might cost under ₹30,000 in India

The Redmi Note 13 series is set to launch in global markets starting January 2024. The lineup will make its debut first in India on January 4.

Ahead of that, the company has been teasing the features of these phones. But everything about them is already known as international markets are getting the same models sold in China.

The only thing that’s not known is how much they will cost. Recently, we learned about the price of Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus in Europe. Today, the price range for India emerges on the internet.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus could cost the same as its predecessor in India

According to influencer Abhishek Yadav on X (formerly Twitter), the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus’ retail box carries a ₹32,999 price tag. This price is applicable to the 12GB + 256GB variant of the product.

It is a known fact that almost all electronic devices in India are not sold at the price tags mentioned on their retail boxes. Their official selling prices are usually much cheaper.

For example, the 8GB + 256GB variant of Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus has a box price of ₹33,999. However, it was introduced at ₹29,999.

Therefore, the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus might actually cost under ₹30,000 in India. It could be priced similar to its predecessor or even cheaper.

For that price, consumers will be getting a handset with an IP68 rating (dust and water resistance), a 6.67-inch 1.5K (2712 x 1220 pixels) 120Hz curved OLED display, a 200MP camera, and 120W fast wired charging support.

Other features of the phone include a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra chip, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, dual stereo speakers, an IR blaster, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the display, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and MIUI 14 based on Android 13.

Non-tech companies in China turn to Nvidia amid escalating US-China tech conflict

In a strategic response to the intensifying tech war between Washington and Beijing, several non-tech Chinese firms are rushing to acquire Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) for artificial intelligence (AI) development. Among them is Shenzhen-listed landscape designer L&A Design, signaling a trend that highlights the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on the global technology landscape.

L&A Design’s Strategic Move:

L&A Design recently disclosed a substantial investment, amounting to 435 million yuan (US$60.5 million), to acquire up to 128 units of Nvidia servers with high-performance GPUs through a subsidiary. The move aims to bolster the company’s AI capabilities and navigate the complexities arising from the US-China tech conflict. The purchase, facilitated by Shenzhen Runxin Supply Chain, is set to be completed in two phases, with 64 servers expected by 2023, and the remaining by the end of 2024.

Market Response and Nvidia’s Adaptations:

Following the announcement, L&A Design’s stock price surged by the daily limit of 20%, reflecting investor confidence in the strategic decision. In response to US sanctions, Nvidia modified its chips, creating the A800 and H800 variants tailored for Chinese clients. However, subsequent controls in October restricted the sale of these modified chips to China, necessitating companies like L&A Design to explore alternative sources for their AI development needs.

Diversification Beyond Tech Firms:

L&A Design follows in the footsteps of Lotus Health, a powdered flavor maker, which previously revealed a deal to purchase Nvidia H800 GPU-based servers from Chinese server maker H3C. This growing trend underscores the broader impact of the US-China tech conflict on industries beyond the traditional technology sector.

Global Impact on Nvidia:

As US export restrictions impact Nvidia’s lower computing power AI chip products designed for the Chinese market, the company anticipates a significant hit to its fourth-quarter earnings. With over 90% of China’s $7 billion market for AI chips, Nvidia faces challenges from established players and emerging Chinese chip designers.

Chinese Chip Designers Challenge Nvidia’s Dominance:

In response to Nvidia’s challenges, Chinese chip designers, including major players like Huawei and Tencent, are aggressively entering the AI chip market. Huawei’s Ascend 910B chip and Tencent’s Zixiao AI inference chip are positioned as alternatives, with Tencent actively promoting its offerings to attract Nvidia’s clients.

Market Opportunity Amid Restrictions:

Despite potential challenges in winning orders due to production capacity constraints, Chinese chip designers view the current situation as an opportunity. US export curbs inadvertently fuel China’s self-development capability, with Chinese tech giants prioritizing sustainability over performance and building AI ecosystems without reliance on US chips.

In essence, the rush of non-tech Chinese firms towards Nvidia GPUs signals a broader reshaping of the global AI landscape, driven by geopolitical tensions and the pursuit of technological self-sufficiency.

Redmi A3 visits Thailand’s NBTC ahead of launch

Xiaomi is reportedly working on a new Redmi A series smartphone. The device in question is the Redmi A3. But ahead of its official announcement, the smartphone was spotted on a certification platform in Thailand. So here’s everything we know so far.

Redmi A3 surfaces on NBTC

Redmi A2

The Chinese tech giant’s upcoming A3 model was recently spotted on the NBTC database. Looking at the listing, the smartphone can be seen carrying the 23129RN51X model number. While this model number was initially spotted by other certification authorities like IMDA and EEC, the NBTC confirms the Redmi A3 moniker. The smartphone is confirmed to support GSM/WCDMA/LTE connectivity along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networking as well.

Unfortunately, finer details regarding the device like its specs, pricing, or design are still unclear. Although, the multiple certification sightings hint that the launch is just around the corner. The device is likely the direct successor to the Redmi A2 model, which launched earlier this year. So we can expect the A3 to offer slight improvements but also target the budget entry smartphone segment. To recall, the Redmi A2 launched with a 6.52-inch IPS LCD panel that has an HD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate.

Redmi A3

Under the hood, the handset is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G36 SoC that is paired with up to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage can be further expanded by up to 1TB via a microSD card slot. This model launched with Android 12 Go edition out of the box and was powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports standard 10W charging. The rear packs an 8-megapixel dual camera setup, while the front houses a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.

OnePlus 12R may launch with a 2MP macro camera: Tipster

The OnePlus 12R is set to launch soon alongside the flagship OnePlus 12. But ahead of its official announcement, a new leak has hinted at some of its camera specifications. A tipster has revealed the third camera sensor of the upcoming OnePlus 12R, which will reportedly be a macro shooter.

OnePlus 12R could feature a 2MP macro sensor

OnePlus 12R spotted in IMDA

For those unaware, the Chinese smartphone maker is gearing up to unveil the new OnePlus 12 and 12R globally on 23rd January 2023. The brand will be launching the two devices in the Indian market on the same date, and now, known tipster Max Jambor has revealed some camera details regarding the 12R model. In a tweet, he claimed that the OnePlus 12R will launch with a 2-megapixel macro sensor.

From what we know so far, the company was expected to launch this device with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto shooter that offers 2x optical zoom. However, it appears that this version of the OnePlus 12R was just an early prototype. In other words, the company could skip the telephoto shooter entirely for this model.

Interestingly, its predecessor, the OnePlus 11R, had also launched with a 2-megapixel macro camera. To recall, the OnePlus 12R is expected to sport a tall 6.78-inch BOE X1 OLED display that offers Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Qorvo, a leading US Chip company, sells its Chinese Plants to Luxshare, changing the Global Supply Chain

In a landmark move, Qorvo the renowned US wireless connectivity chip company, has entered into a definitive agreement with Luxshare Precision Industry Co., Ltd. to divest its assembly and test facilities in Beijing and Dezhou, China. The transaction, expected to be finalized in the first half of 2024, marks a significant realignment in Qorvo’s global manufacturing strategy and underscores the broader trend of American tech companies diversifying their production networks.

Luxshare, a global advanced contract manufacturer and a key assembler for Apple, will acquire Qorvo’s operations, including property, plant, equipment, and the existing workforce at the Beijing and Dezhou facilities. Qorvo’s CEO, Bob Bruggeworth, highlights the historical significance of these facilities in supporting Qorvo’s highly integrated advanced cellular products.

Importantly, Qorvo is set to retain its sales, engineering, and customer support teams in China, ensuring uninterrupted service to its customers. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Qorvo’s CFO, Grant Brown, emphasizes the alignment with efforts to reduce capital intensity and support long-term gross margin objectives.

The sale also includes a post-transaction supply agreement, wherein Luxshare will assemble and test Qorvo’s mobile phone products, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two companies. Luxshare’s evolution from a computer cable assembler to a key player in Apple’s manufacturing supply chain aligns with the broader trend of American tech companies reducing reliance on China-based production facilities.

Luxshare’s recent wins, including securing orders for Apple’s Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, underscore the company’s growing ambitions and its increasing role in Apple’s product manufacturing landscape. The company’s expanded responsibilities came into focus following Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant disruptions, leading to delays in iPhone 14 series shipments and influencing Apple’s decision to shift more work to Luxshare.

For Qorvo, the transaction is a calculated strategic move that reshapes its manufacturing footprint while maintaining a valued presence in China. As the deal progresses, it is poised to have a ripple effect on the global supply chain, contributing to the ongoing production shift from China to emerging manufacturing hubs in Asian countries such as Vietnam and India.

Tesla’s ‘Project Garfield’: wireless charging home garage pad for Tesla EVs

Following Tesla’s effort to address the additional congestion in charging stations in certain locations, the company has been reported to be working on an inductive wireless charging solution for the home garages of its electric cars, according to Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s Head of Design. The system, internally referred to as “Project Garfield,” aims to offer an alternative to traditional Superchargers and wall chargers.

An alternative to traditional wall chargers

The wireless charging pads would sit on the floor and would allow Tesla owners to charge the vehicles simply by driving over the pad. This innovation could reduce the reliance on wall chargers and address situations where owners forget to plug in their vehicles overnight.

The concept of wireless charging for Tesla vehicles was hinted at during Tesla’s 2023 Investor Day presentation, where an upcoming Hollywood Supercharger drive-in was showcased, featuring what appeared to be a wireless charging pad in a garage with a Model S parked on it.

Tesla‘s strategic move into wireless charging technology was further emphasized by its acquisition of Wiferion, a wireless charging company, during the summer. The acquisition was executed discreetly, with Tesla obtaining Wiferion’s assets while retaining its engineering talent.

The potential implementation of wireless charging pads promises to streamline the charging process and enhance the user experience. Von Holzhausen described the envisioned wireless charging experience as a seamless process where users “just pull up in your garage, drive over the pad, and you’re charging.”

While specific details about the timeline for the release of this technology remain undisclosed, Tesla’s foray into wireless charging signals a significant step toward in the electric vehicle charging landscape.

Xiaomi teases yet another Disney 100th anniversary smartphone

Earlier this year, Xiaomi released a special edition of its Civi 3 smartphone in collaboration with Disney. The product celebrates 100 years of Disney.

A few months after that, the company is now teasing yet another device as part of the partnership. Once again, the brand will be using Civi 3.

However, the Disney character used for theming will be different. Let’s go through the details.

Xiaomi Civi 3 Strawberry Bear Disney 100th Anniversary Limited Edition

Xiaomi’s second Disney 100th anniversary smartphone is themed after Lotso

Xiaomi says that it will unveil its second Disney 100th anniversary smartphone on January 22. It will be announced in China at 7 PM local time (GMT+8).

As per the teaser shared by the company, the special edition phone will be again based on Civi 3. But it will be themed after the Disney Pixar character ‘Strawberry Bear’ instead of ‘Mickey Mouse’ like the first model.

For the unaware, ‘Strawberry Bear’ is the common name used in China for the Toy Story 3 character ‘Lotso.’ This character’s full name is Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear.

Thus, the handset will be likely in ‘strawberry pink’ color. It might also have the said character engraved on its rear glass panel. The retail box may also include stickers as well as a customized case and SIM ejector pin.

In terms of specs, there will be no changes. It will be identical to the regular version and may come in a sole 12GB + 512GB memory configuration.

The Civi 3 sports a 6.55-inch FHD+ 120Hz curved OLED display with a pill-shaped cutout and Dolby Vision support. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultra chip paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

It arrives with a 50MP (wide, OIS) + 8MP (ultrawide) + 2MP (macro) triple camera system on the rear and a 32MP (wide) + 32MP (ultrawide) dual camera setup on the front. Other features include an in-screen fingerprint sensor, dual stereo speakers, a 4,500mAh battery, and 67W wired charging support.

Samsung Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ won’t be ditching the existing GN3 camera sensor

Samsung is gearing up to unveil the Galaxy S24 series soon. However, new reports regarding its 2025 flagship lineup have already started surfacing, and it seems that the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ might not be getting a major upgrade in camera technology.

Samsung Galaxy S25 & S25+ to retain the ISOCELL GN3 sensor

Samsung Galaxy S25 camera sensor leak

Previously, known tipster Revegnus had claimed that the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ will no longer be using the ISOCELL GN3 image sensors. This basically implied that the two models would be seeing an upgrade in terms of photography. For those unaware, the South Korean tech giant has used this sensor for multiple devices like the Galaxy S22, S22+, S23, S23+, Z Fold 4, and Z Fold 5 over the past three years.

But unfortunately, it seems like this might not be the case anymore. In a fresh tweet, Revegnus stated that it is being reported that Samsung may still use the GN3 for the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ models. This means that the previous plans to ditch the GN3 sensor may have been canceled. The current gen Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ feature the same sensor. The initial leak also hinted at the ISOCELL sensor being replaced with a Sony sensor, although the exact model wasn’t revealed.

If this is true, then Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ will retain a 50-megapixel primary sensor. We can also expect it to feature a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter. It is worth noting that this is still just an unconfirmed report so take this news with a pinch of salt and stick around for more updates.

Tecno Pop 8 India launch teased, Live image with AnTuTu score leaked

Tecno has officially teased a new smartphone that will be launching in India soon. The Tecno Pop 8 is set to launch in the region soon, but a new leak also hints at its performance and front design. So here are all the details.

Tecno Pop 8 India Teaser

The smartphone maker took to X (formerly Twitter) to tease the upcoming Tecno Pop 8. This model is a budget level smartphone. In the short video teaser, the company confirms that the Pop 8 will be arriving in the Indian market. For those unaware, the device had previously launched in the global markets earlier this year. The Pop 8 is also the direct successor to the Pop 7.

A separate report from 91Mobiles has hinted at the performance of the Pop 8. The live image shared showcases the front design of the device, which features a center aligned punch hole cutout and some notable bezels. However, the more notable aspect of the picture is the AnTuTu score, with the handset receiving 240,205 points in the benchmark. According to sources close to the matter, Tecno is set to launch the Pop 8 in India soon.

To recall, the Tecno Pop 8 sports a 6.6-inch HD+ display that has a 90Hz refresh rate and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter on the front. Meanwhile, the rear features a 13-megapixel dual camera setup. Under the hood, it is equipped with the UNISOC T606 processor that is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports standard 10W charging. Other notable features include Android 13 Go, dual speakers, side mounted fingerprint scanner, virtual RAM expansion, and more.

Honor 90 GT to come in Cream, GT Blue, and Black colors: GT Blue variant to bring vegan leather finish

Honor is set to unveil its latest smartphone, the Honor 90 GT, on December 21 at 7 PM CST (GMT+8). The new device comes with three color options: GT Blue, Black, and Cream. While the Cream and Black variants come with a glass back, the GT Blue variant brings a vegan leather finish.

The GT Blue variant offers a vegan leather back while the cream and black variants adopt glass

Honor 90 GT

The Honor 90 GT comes with a right-angled middle frame design, with the GT Blue variant accentuated with additional line decorations on the back, rendering it easily recognizable. Meanwhile, the Black and Cream options maintain a solid color scheme.

Notably, this is going to be a performance-centric device boasting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip paired with up to 24GB RAM and 1TB internal storage starting from a 12+256GB configuration. However, in the lead-up to the launch, Honor emphasized evaluating the graphics quality in games beyond just technical specifications. The company claims that the Honor 90 GT is set to deliver a genuine “PC-level image quality experience” through meticulous chip tuning and polishing. Honor further challenges industry norms by asserting its device’s ability to withstand a demanding 3-hour heavy-load actual combat scenario, breaking away from the common half-hour, zero-load lab scenario employed for industry testing.

Notable display features expected in the Honor 90 GT include a flat panel with a centered single punch-hole design and slim bezels on three sides, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro. This panel boasts 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming to reduce eye strain. The device is anticipated to support 100W fast charging, ensuring swift power replenishment and fewer interruptions in your gaming sessions. On the photography front, the rear is said to include a dual camera setup featuring a 50MP main camera with OIS.

As the clock ticks down to the official launch, expect more detailed information right here.

Find X7, Find X7 Ultra camera sensor details leaked before early January launch

Oppo has released a new teaser for the upcoming Find X7 series, indicating that its unveiling is imminent. As seen in the new poster below, the company has confirmed that the Find X7 series will feature Sony’s latest LYT-900 one-inch camera sensor, reportedly an upgraded variant of the existing Sony IMX989 camera sensor. Additionally, a recent leak from tipster Digital Chat Station has unveiled the specific camera sensors that will be present on the Find X7 and the Find X7 Ultra. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of the camera specifications for both smartphones:

Find X7, X7 Ultra camera specifications (rumoured)

Upcoming Find X7 series to feature the LYT-900 camera sensor

The aforementioned poster confirms the presence of the 50-megapixel LYT-900 camera sensor across the Find X7 series. Specifically, it will serve as the primary camera in the Find X7 Ultra’s quad-camera system.

The Find X7 Ultra’s camera setup is further expected to include a pair of 50-megapixel periscope telephoto cameras, offering 3x and 6x optical zoom, respectively. The leaker revealed that these will be the IMX890 and IMX858 camera sensors, respectively. For capturing ultra-wide shots, the Find X7 Ultra will be equipped with the LYT-600 50-megapixel camera sensor.

In contrast, the Find X7 will feature a triple camera unit comprising a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS stabilization. It will be accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, utilizing Samsung JN1 and OmniVision OV64B camera sensors, respectively.

As previously known, the Find X7 will be powered by the Dimensity 9300 chipset, while the Find X7 Ultra will be driven by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The Find X7 Ultra Satellite Communication Version, the third model in the X7 series, is expected to share the same specifications as the Find X7 Ultra but will feature two-way satellite communication as an additional feature. A recent report claimed that the Find X7 series may debut in the second week of January 2024.

Nubia Flip 5G flips-style foldable phone in works, model number revealed

In 2024, Nubia is expected to announce the Nubia Z60 Fold as its first foldable smartphone. It is expected to be a horizontally foldable device like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the OnePlus Open. A fresh report claims that the brand is also working on a vertically foldable device dubbed the Nubia Flip 5G.

Nubia Flip 5G appears in IMEI database

Mock render of the Nubia Flip 5G

Publication GSMChina has spotted the Nubia Flip 5G name and its associated model number, NX724J, in the GSMA IMEI database. While it confirms the existence of Nubia’s first flip-style foldable phone, it does not state anything about its specifications. Also, there is no concrete information about the launch timeframe of the Nubia Flip 5G. It remains to be seen whether it also features an under-display camera like the company’s recent flagships.

Apart from Nubia, brands like Xiaomi and Honor are also expected to announce their first vertically foldable smartphones in China in 2024. The Xiaomi Mix Flip may come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. While there is no information about the chipset that powers the Honor Magic Flip, it is expected to feature a 4,500mAh dual-cell battery, which will be the largest battery size in a flip-style foldable phone.

The Magic Flip is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2024, whereas the Mix Flip may arrive in the second quarter of the year. Coming back to Nubia, the brand is expected to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Nubia Z60 Fold in Q1 2024. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about its other specifications.

In related news, Nubia has just launched the Nubia Z60 Ultra flagship phone. Priced at 4,299 Yuan (~Rs 50,450), it comes equipped with an under-display camera, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, up to 24 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage, 50-megapixel triple cameras, and a 6,000mAh battery with 80W charging.
