WhatsApp Adds Email Verification to Enhance Account Security

WhatsApp is increasingly focused on privacy. For example, we recently told you about the Alternate Profile feature that will be coming to the app. This feature, which allows you to create a secondary profile for people you are not close to, was very welcome news for users who have not yet found a balance between work and personal life. Now, WhatsApp has also introduced email profile verification, which is just as important. Here are the details…

WhatsApp Introduces Email Verification for Account Authentication

WhatsApp is now allowing users to verify their accounts using an email address in addition to a phone number. This new option is particularly useful for times when cellular coverage is poor or unavailable. The email verification process involves linking a valid email address to the user’s WhatsApp account.

Once linked, users can receive the six-digit verification code via email instead of SMS. While email verification provides an alternative authentication method, it does not replace SMS verification altogether. Opening a WhatsApp account still requires a valid phone number. WhatsApp is also exploring the implementation of a username feature.

This feature would allow users to communicate with others using usernames instead of phone numbers, similar to Telegram. The username feature is still under development, and its exact functionality is yet to be determined. However, it could potentially provide an additional layer of privacy for WhatsApp users.

The email verification feature is currently rolling out to iOS users in version 23.24.70 of the WhatsApp app. To use email verification, users can access the Settings tab, select Account, and then choose Email Address.

Felo FW03 SIC58 is A New, Fresh Take on Electric Minibikes

Electric mobility is no longer just a practical solution for transportation; it’s evolving into a field full of excitement and innovation. The Felo FW03 SIC58, unveiled at EICMA 2023, is a shining example of this. This limited-edition, retro-inspired electric minibike is not just a vehicle, but a symbol of how electric mobility is intertwining with fun and nostalgia.

The bike looks like a kids’ minibike, but it packs serious power with 80kmph top speed

Originating from China, the FW03 SIC58 breaks the mold of typical electric motorcycles. It may look like a minibike meant for kids, but its performance speaks volumes of something far more powerful. It echoes the design of the iconic Honda Cub, especially the off-road fun variant, the Cub EZ90. But, unlike the versatile Honda Cub, the FW03 SIC58 is not about practicality; it’s about reliving memories and creating new ones.

Electric

What sets the FW03 SIC58 apart is its unique design, inspired by the legendary Marco Simoncelli. Its vibrant colors – yellow, black, white, and red, adorned with red stripes and leopard spots, are reminiscent of Simoncelli’s racing style. This limited edition, with only 580 units, isn’t just a motorcycle; it’s a collector’s item, a piece of history on two wheels.

Performance-wise, the FW03 SIC58 doesn’t disappoint. With a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph) and a range of 120 km (75 miles) on a single charge, it balances speed with endurance. It’s not just about getting from point A to point B; it’s about enjoying the journey. Priced at €5,390 (about $5,878 USD), it’s a premium investment for a premium experience.

EICMA 2023 marked a significant milestone for Felo, as it introduced this unique electric bike to the European market, starting in Italy. This move signifies more than just a new product launch; it represents the evolving landscape of urban mobility.

Rivian is Offering a Complimentary Charger and Installation Credit with R1T Purchase

Rivian, a rising star in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, is introducing an enticing offer for its R1T electric pickup truck. In a move to boost sales and attract customers, the company is now offering a free Level 2 wall charger, along with a $2,000 installation credit, for those who choose to buy a ready-to-ship R1T from their inventory. This initiative not only highlights Rivian’s commitment to enhancing customer experience but also reflects a growing trend in the EV market to provide added value through such incentives.

The charger is normally priced at $800

The offer, which is only valid until the end of the year, is exclusively for Rivian’s R1T models that are immediately available for delivery. This approach is particularly appealing for customers looking to bypass the longer wait times associated with custom-ordered vehicles. Typically, a custom-built R1T would take about four months to deliver, whereas vehicles from Rivian’s inventory are available much quicker, sometimes within a week.

Rivian Wall Charger

The free charger provided by Rivian, usually priced at $800, is capable of delivering up to 11.5 kilowatts of power. This efficiency is significant for R1T owners, enabling them to charge their vehicles at a rate of up to 25 miles per hour of charging. The $2,000 installation credit, managed through Rivian’s partner Qmerit, covers a substantial part of the installation costs, though customers are liable for any expenses beyond this amount.

This strategy is not unique to Rivian. Earlier in the year, Hyundai launched a similar promotion for its EV models, offering a free Level 2 charger and an installation credit, albeit on a smaller scale. Such tactics are becoming more common as EV manufacturers seek to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

Uncovering the Truth: How Your Favorite Apps Might Be Compromising Your Privacy

Our smartphones have become essential tools in our daily lives, keeping us connected, entertained, and organized. However, a recent study by The Money Mongers reveals a concerning aspect of smartphone use: many apps are extensively collecting and sharing our personal data. Notably, Meta‘s Threads app tops the list by gathering an astonishing 86% of user data.

Meta’s recently launched platform, Threads tops the list

This widespread data collection isn’t limited to a few apps. The study shows that 76% of apps collect some form of user data, with 51% sharing this information with third parties. From location tracking to accessing contact information, the range of data collected is broad and sometimes intrusive.

THREADS

Meta’s suite of apps is particularly active in this regard, but the trend crosses various categories, including shopping apps. This raises questions about privacy and the level of control we have over our personal information. Many users remain unaware of the extent to which their data is being used, often for purposes beyond their knowledge.

The implications of such extensive data collection are significant. It’s not just about receiving targeted ads or personalized content; it’s about a fundamental aspect of our digital lives: privacy. As users, we need to be more aware of the apps we use and the permissions we grant.

The key takeaway here is the need for awareness and caution in our digital choices. While enjoying the benefits of modern apps, users should also be mindful of the privacy trade-offs and advocate for more transparent and responsible data practices by tech companies.

Report: Global Huawei devices will not lose Android app support

In a recent announcement, Huawei revealed that its upcoming HarmonyOS Next operating system will not support Android apps on its own devices. However, the company is likely to make this change only in China, as per a report by China Mobile.

This means, international Huawei devices will continue to run on EMUI, a custom Android-based operating system developed by Huawei.

While EMUI shares a similar look and feel to HarmonyOS, it is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). But does not include Google services or apps. However, users can still install native Android apps through sideloading.

China Mobile also reported that Huawei is committed to supporting developers worldwide, ensuring that apps continue to function seamlessly on devices without Google services. The company has a thriving app developer community dedicated to maintaining compatibility.

While international users will not receive the HarmonyOS update, they will still have access to the latest Android features and app support through EMUI. The possibility of HarmonyOS expanding globally remains open, but for now, international consumers will continue using EMUI with native Android app support.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

YouTube’s Ad Blocker Crackdown Hits Firefox and Edge Users with Slow Load Times

The battle initiated by YouTube against ad-blocking programs is intensifying. The company insists that users who don’t want to see ads should pay for Premium, and it is determined to make life difficult for those who reject this proposition. In line with this, users employing ad-blockers have recently begun receiving warnings to disable the blocker. However, it appears that the measures taken by the company are putting users who use browsers other than Chrome in a difficult position. Here are the details…

Google Slows Down Browsers to Punish Ad Blockers

Google Chrome is undoubtedly the most popular web browser in the world. However, a considerable number of people opt for alternatives for one reason or another. For instance, I started using Safari due to performance issues on my previous MacBook Air, and it became a habit. This is precisely why everything on the internet is developed to work well not just on one browser but on all of them. However, it seems that YouTube has forgotten this rule.

YouTube

After the company introduced measures against ad-blocker programs in its application, some users who don’t use Chrome started experiencing slower loading times for YouTube videos. Upon closer inspection, it was found that Google had introduced a five-second delay on YouTube for users using ad blockers when visiting the site. This delay was specifically aimed at users of Firefox and Edge.

Some users speculated that this delay was a deliberate measure to discourage the use of ad blockers. However, Google has denied this accusation, claiming that the delay is simply a technical necessity to ensure that ads can still be loaded and displayed properly. However, it is unclear how long Google will continue to implement this delay.

After its launch in October, the Xiaomi 14 series has become a sensation in its domestic Chinese market, managing to sell around 1.5 million units in a relatively short amount of time. We expect the series to be quite popular in the global market as well. That being said, the brand has already started working on the next big thing, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra launch timeline leak

Like the Ultra models of the past, the 14 Ultra will also mainly bring camera improvements to the table. The rumored launch timeline, leaked online by tipster Fixed Focus Digital, points to April 2024. However, the post also suggests a slowdown in smartphone launches after mid-December in China, indicating a temporary lull in the industry.

Xbox Store Reportedly Gains UPI Payment Mode In India

Lately, Microsoft has been announcing special editions of its Xbox consoles as well as controllers. Additionally, a Black Friday sale is also currently running on the Xbox Store globally. There is also expected to be another sale in the coming weeks as the Holiday season approaches. While this is a great time for gamers to grab digital versions at discounted prices, Microsoft latest move also brings cheer for Xbox owners in India. The Redmond-based company has reportedly introduced UPI payment option in the country.

Xbox Store reportedly gains UPI payment mode

Xbox Store only supports VISA and Mastercard. Another way is adding funds to their Microsoft balance to purchase a digital game. The lack of more payment options coupled with declined transactions or cancellation due to card issues made it cumbersome for gamers to go for digital versions. However, this is likely expected to end anytime soon if the latest development is anything to go by.

A user on X shared an image that reveals Microsoft has enabled the UPI payment option in India. It seems that the rollout is happening in a phased manner for a limited number of users. We can expect it to be available for all Xbox gamers in the country. Notably, Microsoft is also yet to officially announce the support for UPI payment mode on the Xbox Store.

The introduction of UPI payment on Xbox Store is a welcome move. There is a large chunk of customer base who prefer UPI as a mode of payment in India. It is also convenient and hassle-free compared to traditional card transactions. Microsoft’s move is expected to pave the way for Xbox’s archrivals PlayStation and Steam to roll out similar support for UPI payment option in the country.

Leaked images reveal redesigned battery for iPhone 16 Pro

An alleged early-stage prototype battery for the iPhone 16 Pro has surfaced online, revealing a modest increase in capacity and a glossy metal shell.

Shared by Apple collector @KosutamiSan on X/Twiiter, the battery boasts a 3355mAh capacity, a mere 2.5% jump from the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3274mAh battery. However, the current version of the battery reportedly features a frosty metal shell and a redesigned connector, suggesting ongoing refinements.

Earlier this month, the same source mentioned that Apple was testing a graphene thermal system that included a metal shell for the battery.

Despite the minor 2.5% battery capacity increase, the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery life improvement would surpass the iPhone 15 Pro’s 2.3% gain. It would also exceed the 2.3% battery life boost seen in the iPhone 15 Pro Max compared to its predecessor.

Notably, the iPhone 15 battery capacity increased by 4.6%, and the iPhone 15 Plus saw a 1.4% battery life improvement over the iPhone 14 Plus.

Rumors regarding battery capacity upgrades for the next iPhone iteration are a common occurrence. In July, speculations pointed to an 18% increase for the iPhone 15 battery, 14% for the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro models, and 12% for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, actual battery capacity gains fell short of these predictions.
