Apple has been making iPhones in India since 2016. The company has been reducing its reliance on China for the last few years due to many reasons. Hence, India has quickly become an emerging manufacturing destination for the Cupertino-based tech giant. While production of previous iPhones commenced a few months after their launch, this year marked the first time the non-pro iPhone 15 models were manufactured in the country ahead of their debut. Additionally, Apple also sold Made in India iPhone 15 variants on the launch day. Now a new report courtesy of the reliable Ming-Chi Kuo reveals interesting details.
Apple to double iPhone 17 production in India
As per a past report earlier this year, Apple has been planning to increase its iPhone manufacturing capacity in India to 25 percent. The latest development from Ming-Chi Kuo also echoes the same. The Cupertino-based tech giant aims to double up its iPhone production capacity in the country. Kuo believes that currently 12-14 percent of the global iPhone shipments in 2023 are made in India units. This would eventually be increased to 20-25 percent.
The striking bit about the latest development is that Apple will start the iPhone 17 production in India in the second half of 2024. This will mark the first time, the company will begin the manufacturing of a new iPhone model outside China. Kuo reveals that Apple selected the base iPhone 17 because of the lower difficulty associated with design and development thus reducing the risk and error. The iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in Fall 2025.
Additionally, Kuo also adds that Foxconn which is Apple’s largest contract manufacturer will slash its iPhone production capacity in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan facilities by 35 – 45 and 75-85 percent respectively. The report comes at a time when Tata Group has acquired Wistron which was Apple’s previous contract manufacturer in India with the former expected commence the production of iPhones from the country for the domestic as well as global markets within two and a half years.
The first Geekbench 6 results for Apple’s M3 Max chip have surfaced, providing a look at its CPU performance. The results show that the M3 Max offers a similar performance to the M2 Ultra chip for a lot less money.
The results appear to be for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, with the highest multi-core score for the M3 Max with a 16-core CPU being 21,084.
This means that the M3 Max is around as fast as the M2 Ultra chip, which has an average multi-core score of 21,182 in the Mac Pro Tower and 21,316 in the Mac Studio. The M3 Max is within 1% of the M2 Ultra in terms of CPU performance.
Apple claims that the M3 Max chip is up to 50% faster than the M2 Max chip, and the early Geekbench results support this claim. However, it is important to note that benchmarks only provide a snapshot of performance, and real-world performance can vary.
The new 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 Max chip starts at $3,499 in the U.S., which is $500 less than the Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip. This means that you can effectively get the same CPU performance for less money with the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The new MacBook Pro is available to order now, and most configurations will be shipped on November 7 while M3 Max configurations will be available later in November.
Recently, Tata Group took over Wistron’s operations becoming the first Indian company to manufacture Apple’s iPhones locally. The Cupertino-based tech giant has been largely focussing on the Indian market as it opened two retail stores in the country earlier this year. Additionally, Apple sold Made In India iPhone 15 on the launch date for the first time this year. The company has also been repeaing the benefits of its efforts. Now, Apple’s third-quarter performance results are out.
Apple registers best quarterly performance in India
During the third quarter of this year i.e. the period between July to September, Apple recorded the highest-ever quarterly shipments in India. Research firm Counterpoint revealed that the company sold more than 2.5 million iPhone units during the three-month period. It indicated a 34 percent year-on-year growth compared to the corresponding quarter last year.
While the global smartphone market experiences headwinds due to various factors, Apple’s significant growth in India is great news for the company. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant still continues to have a single-digit market share in the country. It is said to grow to 6 percent from 4.5 percent last year. Apple’s growth is reportedly attributed to consumers’ shifting preferences towards premium smartphones due to financing schemes, discounts, and various offers.
Counterpoint revealed to TechCrunch that the iPhone 14 Pro accounted for more than a third of iPhone shipments in 2023. Apple is also said to grow by 38 percent in India although the overall smartphone market will contract by 5 percent in 2023.

In a surprising turn of events, Qualcomm has outperformed Wall Street expectations in its Q4 2023 results, reporting robust sales of $8.67 billion and adjusted profits of $2.02 per share. Following the announcement, Qualcomm’s shares experienced a notable 3.4% surge, indicating renewed investor confidence in the chip giant.
Factors Driving Qualcomm’s Success
One of the key drivers behind Qualcomm’s success was the revival of smartphone sales particularly in the lucrative Chinese market. CEO Cristiano Amon highlighted the resolution of inventory issues within smartphone companies, leading to a resurgence in fresh orders and bolstering Qualcomm’s prospects.
Additionally, a pivotal factor in Qualcomm’s positive trajectory was the renewal of its contract with tech behemoth Apple until 2026. This strategic partnership significantly enhanced Qualcomm’s sales outlook, further solidifying its position in the competitive semiconductor industry.
Market Trends and Strategies
Global smartphone shipments demonstrated remarkable resilience, experiencing only a marginal 0.1% decline in Q3 2023. This slight dip was offset by robust demand in emerging markets and the unwavering premium phone market. Qualcomm capitalized on this trend, witnessing a notable resurgence in Android demand driven by substantial growth in Chinese Original Equipment Manufacturers.
Looking ahead, Qualcomm revealed plans to re-enter the laptop market with substantial backing from Microsoft. Additionally, the company anticipates retaining a substantial market share in Samsung’s highly anticipated S24 line of phones, further bolstering its revenue streams.
Challenges and Pressures
However, Qualcomm’s triumphs are not without their challenges. The company faced intensified competition from Huawei Technologies, which resumed producing its smartphone chips. Despite this, Qualcomm remains optimistic about its relationship with Chinese smartphone companies, expecting a 35% quarter-over-quarter surge in sales to these crucial clients.
Moreover, Qualcomm grapples with the repercussions of the escalating trade tensions between the US and China. China, constituting approximately two-thirds of Qualcomm’s revenue, has become a vital yet volatile market for the company. The US ban on Huawei and ZTE has not only impacted these Chinese tech giants but has also reverberated through the supply chains, affecting Qualcomm.
Furthermore, Qualcomm faces challenges due to increasing bans on Apple iPhones in China, which could extend to government-affiliated entities. These bans, if escalated, could place significant pressure on Qualcomm, a key component supplier for iPhones.
Despite navigating a complex landscape marred by geopolitical tensions and market uncertainties, Qualcomm’s impressive Q4 2023 performance underscores its resilience and strategic acumen. The company’s ability to adapt to evolving market dynamics and maintain fruitful partnerships positions it optimistically for the future, even in the face of challenges posed by global trade tensions and competitive rivals.

A judicial tribunal in London has rejected Apple’s attempt to dismiss a lawsuit alleging the tech giant concealed defective batteries in millions of iPhones by throttling them with software updates. The lawsuit, worth up to $2 billion, was initiated by British consumer champion Justin Gutmann on behalf of over 20 million iPhone users in the United Kingdom.
Gutmann’s lawsuit claims that Apple installed a power management tool via software updates, slowing down various iPhone models, including iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, and 7 Plus. Consumers argue that they did not receive the quality they paid for, and Apple allegedly misled them about the performance of their devices.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) ruled in favor of Gutmann, allowing the case to proceed. However, the tribunal highlighted a lack of clarity and specificity in the lawsuit that needs addressing before a trial can move forward. Despite this, Gutmann’s victory marks a significant step toward justice for consumers.
Apple vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that the lawsuit was baseless and that iPhone batteries were not defective, except for a limited number of iPhone 6s models, for which the company offered free battery replacements. An Apple spokesperson reiterated the company’s commitment to not intentionally shortening the life of any product or degrading user experience to promote upgrades.
Gutmann’s lawsuit aims to combine the claims of millions of iPhone users in the U.K. into one consolidated legal action against Apple. The lawsuit, filed in 2022, accuses Apple of exploitative and unfair practices that harmed its customers. This legal battle in the U.K. mirrors a similar class action lawsuit in the U.S. federal court, which Apple settled in 2020 by agreeing to pay up to $500 million to iPhone customers, although the company did not admit wrongdoing in that case.
Apple now faces a challenging legal battle as it contends with these allegations in court.
Earlier this year, the Government of India imposed restrictions on the import of Laptops in India by companies sans license. Considering the industry concerns, the government rolled back its decision and implemented a “New Import Management System” in which the company is required to register the quality and value of imports.
The new system is now effective from November 1, and a total of 110 companies have successfully received approval to import laptops, tablets, and other IT hardware. The list includes big names like Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, and IBM. Speaking on the occasion, the official said, “Around 110 import authorizations have been issued to date. All major IT hardware companies have already availed authorisations. All applications received are being disposed of within the time stipulated. There is no pendency as ondate.”
The New Import Management System is applicable to personal computers, microcomputers, mainframe or large computers, and data center machines. The idea behind the new system is to monitor the shipments and establish trust in the supply chain while ensuring smooth market supply.
However, there are some roadblocks to getting authorizations for the companies which are currently on the “denied entry list”. The imports are also denied for the companies that are importing refurbished or second-hand goods in India. The new policy also allows private companies to import on behalf of government agencies for defense and security purposes.
India is enhancing its efforts to ramp up production and manufacturing of IT hardware in the country. The government is offering incentives for electronic device manufacturing companies.

Qualcomm announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023 on Wednesday, reporting revenue of $8.63 billion, down 24% year-over-year. However, this was still better than expected, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon expressed optimism for the future, thanks to the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.
The biggest contributor to the decline was the headset division, which is responsible for the chips used in most high-end Android phones. Revenue from this division dropped 27% to $5.46 billion.
The smartphone industry has been in a slump all year, with analysts documenting falling shipments throughout 2023. However, things could look up for Qualcomm in the current and subsequent quarters thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said in a statement that the company is “pleased with our roadmap and product execution,” which positions it well across its businesses. He also highlighted the recent Snapdragon Summit announcements, which underscore the company’s technology leadership in on-device generative AI and mobile computing performance.
Qualcomm is betting big on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and generative AI, with devices from Xiaomi, Honor, and more already announced or in the pipeline. Amon also said that Qualcomm will have the “majority share” with the upcoming Galaxy S24 launch.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is built with generative AI in mind and promises to enable new on-device experiences on smartphones. Rumors also point to Samsung packing more generative AI in the Galaxy S24, although the chip may still fall behind the performance of the Snapdragon chip.
Aside from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the new Snapdragon X Elite chip also promises to boost performance for ARM-based Windows laptops. Amon also spotlighted the company’s partnership with Apple, stating that Qualcomm will continue supplying 5G modems for iPhones through 2026.

Right now I am holding the Ulefone Armor Pad 2, it is a top-of-the-line device I can guarantee it. But it puts me in a bit of hard position to do a review to be honest, I mean clearly I won’t be working in the field like those construction workers, field workers, or even military soldiers. However! When I see what this tablet is capable of, it strikes me in the core that those people do need such a rugged tablet to fulfill their daily work after all, and as a tech reviewer, we aim to show you guys what we encounter every time, so let’s take a look at this device together.
Desgin
So as usual, the first noticeable feature is the rugged shell, unlike some brands that use the same design over and over again, if you know who, Ulefone does some unique patterns for the tablet, these patterns are symmetrically designed at the four corners, and every inch at the back. Just some common sense here, the patterns are not just for the appearance, they are made for protective purposes also, take the corners and those 4 feet here for example, they can definitely protect the tablet well. And of course, it has an IP68 and IP69K waterproof and dustproof rating, and also passed the military standard.
The whole unit itself weighs 1018g or 2.3lb, it’s definitely a chunky boy. If I were in those workers’ shoes, I wouldn’t complain about it, because this is the price that needs to be paid for excellent protection. And this is also part of the reason why there are many accessories that can go with it.
Featured Functions
Now what set this device apart from those normal pads are the functionalities, it is purposely built for some scenarios or I should say for certain group of people. Let’s start with these four screws here, you can unscrew them and have the hand strap on. If you are a contractor and works in the field all the time, then holding the tablet like this would be such a more intuitive way to do it, it really takes the burden away from the hand. And since the tape in between is stretchy, any palm will fit comfortably here. I really like it, in fact, I think this should also be a must for iPad if you are a heavy user.
To take a step further, there is a more professional hand strap with a kickstand, it’s better in all ways. Like the plastic piece is made of PC and ABS, it feels really solid, once paired up with the tablet, it fits really snugly. And there are 5 rotatable angles available for placement, the most used ones will certainly be vertically or horizontally. Then once it’s in position, it makes a crisp sound to let you know that it won’t shift away. If you want to put the tablet on the table, then this kickstand is here to help, the operation is also very simple, no learning curve at all. This hand strap with a kickstand is very useful in many situations, such as when you are doing a wood work that has a table for it, or even you need to hang it somewhere.
Speaking of hanging this tablet on something, you might also need to hang it on your shoulder, while embracing your hands with some other tasks. This holster that has a carrying case and shoulder strap is like the ultimate form of accessories. There is a carrying case, adjustable and detachable straps, also hand strap with a kickstand. It will benefit you while doing mobile work. I could be watching Youtube while having coffee and eating snacks, isn’t that great!
One bold move it made is putting this giant sharp LED light at the back, I honestly have never seen such a big light on a tablet, it is as bright as a torch. I am sure you have already imagined that it can be used in many ways, like when you go camping, fishing, hiking and sort of stuff, other than some field works to replace the flashlight or headlight. To use the light, there is also a dedicated button besides the power button to support it, very convenient.
Screen
Now the screen itself also has something worth talking about, it’s a Corning Glass 5 panel on the top, 11 inches large display, 2K resolution, 500 nits peak brightness. Reading these info, you know that it can withstand accidental drops and impacts, and also will have the best visibility even under direct sunlight. And this screen also support gloves mode, you can operate on it without taking off your working gloves. This excellent display covered by protective glass is actually more practical than many tablet on the market.
Performance
On a system level, this tablet has a Helio G99 chip ARM Mali-G57 MC GPU inside, 16GB Ram 256GB Rom, we have tested it, it performs like it should be, more than enough for daily tasks, you can check the metrics here.
It is the original Android 13 in the tablet, to ensure smooth and secured operation. While working, you can also use the 16MP front-facing camera and 48MP rear camera to do video conferencing, take photos, scan a code or something. Surprisingly, it supports WiFi 6, once it’s connected, the download and transfer speed will be faster than you would expect.
Battery
The battery is a big leap from the last gen, it has bumped up to amazing 18600mAh, it will last for a whole week of use for sure. What’s more, it also supports 33W fast charging and even reverse charging for other devices. One tablet in hand, while saves space for a charger and power bank.
