Apple to Buyout most of TSMC’s 3nm process that reportedly has an 80% yield

We have already covered various reports that hint at the next gen Apple A17 Bionic being based on TSMC‘s cutting edge 3nm process node. But now, a new report has revealed that the company is looking to acquire most of the 3nm process of the world’s largest contract chipmaker.

For those unaware, the A17 Bionic is the next gen chipset that will power the iPhone 15 Pro models later this year. It will be based on the 3nm process from TSMC, which would make the iPhone the only smartphone to feature a 3nm based chip this year. TSMC will produce the chips with its advanced N3E process node in the second half of this year. The newer N3E process is cheaper than the previous N3 process, so it would lower the cost for its various clients.

Apple

In other words, brands like Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm would rush to put in their orders in the latest 3nm process node. However, it appears that the Cupertino based giant is looking to acquire most of the new 3nm process for its proprietary chips. The next gen chips based on the N3E will be more power efficient while offer faster clock speeds, with 15 percent better performance with 30 to 30 percent lowered power consumption.

As of right now, Apple is already the largest customer of TSMC, accounting for 25 percent of TSMC’s annual revenue. A new report from EDN Asia has revealed that the 3nm chip production has hit the 80 percent yield rate. High yields basically mean than more chips pass quality control and help the company save up on production cost.

GPT-4 OpenAI’s Latest Model Claims to Outperform Humans in Exams

OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT and some other popular artificial intelligence, has announced the release of its latest AI model, the GPT-4. The company claims that this new AI model is a significant milestone in its deep learning research and that can outperform humans in many area. According to OpenAI, GPT-4 exhibits “human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks.” Here are the details…

OpenAI Unveils GPT-4, A Deep Learning Model That Outperforms Humans In Exams

According to OpenAI, GPT-4 is capable of passing a simulated bar exam in the top 10% of test takers, while its predecessor, GPT-3.5 (the basis of ChatGPT), only scored around the bottom 10%. GPT-4 also performed well on various other exams, like the SAT Math test (scoring 700 out of 800). However, it scored only 2 on the AP English Language and Composition exam (14th to 44th percentile).

OpenAI GPT-4

It’s important to note that GPT-4 is a regurgitation engine that draws upon material it was trained on to address a query. Although it may recall details for exams, its accuracy can vary. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged that GPT-4 is still flawed and limited, and may seem more impressive on first use than after spending more time with it.

GPT-4 is a large multimodal model designed to accept queries via text and image inputs, with answers returned in text. It is being made available initially via the wait-listed GPT-4 API and to ChatGPT Plus subscribers in a text-only capacity, as image-based input is still being refined. Despite the addition of a visual input mechanism, OpenAI is not being open about or providing visibility into the making of its model. The company has chosen not to release details about its size, how it was trained, nor what data went into the process.

In a live stream on YouTube, Greg Brockman, president and co-founder of OpenAI, demonstrated the difference between GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 by asking the models to summarize the OpenAI GPT-4 blog post in a single sentence where every word begins with the letter “G.” GPT-3.5 did not try, while GPT-4 returned “GPT-4 generates ground-breaking, grandiose gains, greatly galvanizing generalized AI goals.”

Brockman also had GPT-4 generate the Python code for a Discord bot, as well as HTML and JavaScript code for a hand-drawn mockup of a jokes website sent to Discord. Finally, Brockman set up GPT-4 to analyze 16 pages of US tax code to return the standard deduction for a couple, Alice and Bob, with specific financial circumstances. OpenAI’s model responded with the correct answer and an explanation of the calculations involved.

While GPT-4 is an impressive achievement, its development raises concerns about the lack of transparency and potential consequences of large-scale models like GPT-4.

Vivo Pad 2 Specs Leak reveals 12 inch 144Hz display, Dimensity 9000, & More

Vivo is gearing up to launch a new tablet model, which will be the successor to its original Pad model. But ahead of any official announcement, a new leak has revealed some of the key specification of the Vivo Pad 2.

Vivo

Previously, we had reported on a Google Play Supported Devices List sighting of the Pad 2. This revealed the PA2373 model number of the tablet. It was believed that this device could feature Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. However, the latest leak from known tipster Digital Chat Station has hinted otherwise. The specs leak claims that the Chinese tech giant’s Pad 2 model will be equipped with MediaTek high end Dimensity 9000 chipset.

While the original Vivo Pad model featured an 11 inch IPS LCD panel, it appears that the Pad 2 will sport a taller 12 inch LCD panel that supports 144Hz refresh rate. This display will likely have a high resolution similar to its predecessor that had a 2560 x 1600px resolution. Apart from this, the tipster claims that the upcoming flagship tablet model will also be powered by a large battery pack, but did not reveal the exact battery capacity of this model.

Vivo

The original Pad model ran on a massive 8,040mAh battery pack so we can expect a similar battery size on its successor. We can also expect certain other specs to make a return like the quad speaker system for an improved audio experience. The original model had a dual camera setup on the rear, which could see an upgrade or see a rise in camera sensor count. We can also see an upgrade on the 8 megapixel selfie shooter that was found on the older model. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report so stick around for more updates.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Users Report Jittery Animations Issue

The Samsung Galaxy S23 range of smartphones is known for being one of the most advanced and feature-rich products on the market, created by the Korean technology giant. However, there appears to be a group of users who are dissatisfied with its performance. Based on information shared on social media and forums, some Galaxy S23 users have reported encountering jittery animations when scrolling through third-party applications like Reddit, WhatsApp, Twitter, and YouTube.

It seems that the problem is not widespread and only impacts certain users, and its root cause may or may not be connected to the security update released in February 2023. There is a possibility that the issue might be associated with a third-party application or another factor that has not been identified yet. Moreover, the problem is not confined to third-party apps, since some users have observed scrolling delays even on Samsung’s own Galaxy Store application.

samsung galaxy s23

According to SamMobiles‘ report, the refresh rate of the screen falls below 60Hz in Samsung’s proprietary app store. This leads to a slower scrolling experience on the Galaxy Store compared to mid-range Samsung devices that do not have a refresh rate greater than 60Hz.

Animations that are jittery and inconsistent can be an unpleasant and aggravating experience for users who expect a seamless and effortless operation from their high-end device. Some users have put forward a couple of potential fixes to address the problem, such as restarting the phone, erasing the cache, deactivating RAM Plus, or switching to a 60Hz refresh rate. Nevertheless, these remedies may not be effective for everyone or may necessitate compromising on other functionalities.

Samsung has yet to formally recognize or confront the problem at hand. We trust that the corporation will promptly release a software update to resolve the problem of unsteady animations for all Galaxy S23 users. In the meantime, if you are experiencing this difficulty on your device, you may experiment with some of the suggested solutions or seek help from Samsung support.

However, it’s worth noting that the authenticity of the leaked color variants has not been confirmed. In the past, Huawei has not typically offered bright and bold color options, so it remains to be seen if these leaked color variants will make it to the final product.

Previous leaks have shown six different color options for the P60 series, including Black, White, Pink, Grey, Blue, and Orange. The new color variants appear to be an upgrade to these options, with more vibrant and striking choices.

It’s unclear if the new color variants will be available for both the P60 and P60 Pro models. However, given that the leaked images show a metal aperture around the camera module, it’s likely that these new color options are for the higher-end P60 Pro model.

The highly anticipated P60 Pro is rumored to feature a 6.6-inch 2K BOE OLED display and the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, along with a memory combination of LPDDR5X+UFS4.0.

Additionally, reports suggest that the P60 Pro will have an impressive triple-camera setup with an upgrade to XMAGE 2.0. The primary 50MP Sony IMX888 sensor, 50MP Sony IMX858 ultra wide-angle sensor, and a third telephoto camera featuring a 64MP OV64B Omnivision sensor with 3.5x optical zoom, promise to offer a range of photography options.

Google is Integrating ChatGPT-like AI Features into Docs, Slides, Sheets & More

Google has been working to catch up to OpenAI since the release of ChatGPT, which took the generative AI industry by storm. After the underwhelming response to its first attempt at a conversational bot, Bard AI, Google has announced a new approach: adding AI features to all of its Workspace products, much like it did with social features during the Google+ era. These features will allow users to draft, reply, summarize, prioritize emails, brainstorm, proofread, write, and rewrite text documents, autogenerate images and even video with Slides, have Sheets create formulas autonomously, automate transcription notes in Meet, and enable workflows in Chat. For example, users can type the subject of their assignment into Docs and Google’s generative AI suite will quickly generate additional text. The Rewrite function can also rework existing content, even if it’s just bullet points. The new “I’m feeling lucky” option in Gmail is another addition to the suite.

Google

Following the Bard debacle, Google has doubled down on its commitment to ensuring that its AIs are not like Microsoft‘s. The company is building its products within the bounds of its AI Principles, which are legally binding like its old “Don’t be evil” motto. Johanna Voolich Wright, VP of Product at Google Workspace, emphasized that “AI is no replacement for the ingenuity, creativity, and smarts of real people,” and that the company’s AI-enabled Workspace suite requires guidance to function correctly. The suite is expected to roll out to English language users in the US by the end of the month, with additional languages and regions arriving in the near future.

However, some concerns have been raised about the implications of Google’s new approach. Critics worry that the over-reliance on AI could lead to a decrease in the quality of work, with users becoming overly dependent on AI-generated content. Others argue that the company’s AI Principles are not enough to ensure that AI is used ethically and responsibly. Regardless, it is clear that Google is betting big on AI, and the company’s new approach could have significant implications for the future of work and productivity.
