Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4’s new taskbar will soon be available on older Galaxy Fold models: Rumor

Samsung had just recently announced two new foldable smartphones, namely the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Notably, the former arrived with new software features that helps improve the user experience on a foldable model. But, it appears that this feature might not be exclusive to this device for long.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

For those unaware, the South Korean tech giant’s latest foldable smartphones made a major shift to Android 12L OS. This version of Android was made by Google specifically with foldable handsets in mind, along with tablets and Chrome OS devices as well. Through this, the company was able to offer a new Taskbar feature on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which helped in improving the multi tasking functionality and navigation options on the new device.

But according to a tweet from @TheGalox_, the brand is also planning on introducing this feature to older Galaxy Z Fold series foldable smartphones as well. Interestingly, this also means that Samsung will be updating all or at least the more recent Fold phone models to the Android “L” branch as well. In other words, they will get some of the other new changes in the UI.

Unfortunately, it is still unclear whether the new One UI 4.1.1 build is related to the new Android 12L OS. Although, its clear that these features are a great addition to the new foldable smartphones. So stay tuned for more updates regarding this matter.

Xiaomi Smart TV 5A Pro 32 to launch in India on August 16

At the end of April, Xiaomi debuted the Xiaomi Smart TV 5A in India. Almost four months later, the company has now confirmed to launch a ‘Pro’ variant tomorrow. It has even put up a landing page on its website teasing the arrival.

Xiaomi Smart TV 5A Pro 32 Teaser

The upcoming Xiaomi-branded television for India is officially called Xiaomi Smart TV 5A Pro. This product will be unveiled at 12 PM IST on August 16.

According to official teasers, the firm will be only announcing a 32-inch model for now. Going by the renders, the Pro variant will be identical to the non-Pro variant in terms of design. As per the official teaser page, the TV will be powered by an ARM Cortex-A55 CPU. For the unaware, the original non-Pro Xiaomi Smart TV 5A 32 houses an ARM Cortext-A35 CPU.

Apart from the CPU info, the page doesn’t tell anything clearly about other aspects. This suggests that the forthcoming Xiaomi Smart TV 5A Pro 32 will bring upgrades only in terms of performance.

Therefore, we could expect it to arrive with an HD-ready (1366 x 768 pixels) LED-backlit LCD panel, Android TV 11 with PatchWall, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, 20W speakers, Dolby Audio, and more.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro may not see rise in base storage, despite price hike

Apple is believed to launch its highly anticipated 2022 iPhone lineup sometime in September. The iPhone 14 series is set to include four models, which includes the two Pro models. A recent rumor had hinted at the higher end versions featuring higher base storage, but it seems that this might not be the case.

iPhone 14 dummies
iPhone 14 Series prototypes

The news arrives from known analyst Jeff Pu (Via MacRumors). We have already covered a number of reports regarding the Cupertino based giant hiking the price tag for its latest iPhones over the previous generation. However, a recent rumor had hinted that the iPhone 14 Pro series models will launch with a higher base storage capacity of 256GB.

This would more or less justify its price tag and bring its pricing in line with higher end storage variants of the iPhone 13 Pro series. As per Jeff Pu, the Pro models will launch in multiple storage options but will start from 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Apart from reports of Apple starting the iPhone 14 Pro models from 256GB, there had also been rumors that the storage could top out at 2TB as well. Although, the analyst believes otherwise based on the latest information he shared.

Apple

Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report so take this news with a pinch of salt for now. With the iPhone 14 series launch being just around the corner, we can expect more reports or details to surface soon. So, stick around for more as well, since we will be offering updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

VLC Media Player website banned in India – what we know so far

VideoLan Client or VLC for short is one of the most used software for playing videos on PC and other devices like Android and iOS. Its specialty is the wide range of supported codecs and the highly versatile interface.

Now, according to a recent report, the VideoLAN Project’s VLC media player has allegedly been banned in India. The ban was reportedly issued earlier this year (around 13th February) in a silent manner, and neither VideoLAN nor the Indian authorities provided any information on the matter.

In accordance with the ban, ISPs have blocked the official VLC media player website “www.videolan.org” across the country. It’s worth noting that users can still get the media player from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, indicating that the ban hasn’t been fully implemented.

According to some reports, VLC Media Player has been banned in the country because the platform was used for cyber attacks by the alleged China-backed hacking group Cicada. Security experts discovered Cicada was using VLC Media Player to deploy a malicious malware loader as part of a long-running cyber attack campaign just a few months ago.

The situation is quite peculiar as the VideoLan Project team is based in Paris and has no apparent connections to China. Currently, there is no official word from the government of India or the VideoLan Project team regarding the alleged cyber attack. As for users, if you already have a VLC media player installed on your PC, it will continue to work as usual. For people looking to download the app, you can still access the mirror sites that are still available to access in India.

Indus Battle Royale first trailer plays at Times Square – check out visuals, gameplay & more

The battle royale genre has been among the top mobile gaming genres worldwide. It started with the launch of PUBG Mobile in 2018, and since then, many diverse and exciting titles have come out under the BR category like Free Fire Max, COD Mobile, Apex Legends Mobile, etc.

Now, with the ambition of putting India on the global gaming map, the Pune-based gaming studio, SuperGaming has revealed the first trailer of its upcoming game called Indus – Battle Royale in New York’s Times Square. The game will be available on mobile, PC, and consoles.

Apparent from the name, we can guess that it is a battle royale title, but what makes it special? Well, there are quite a few things.

Starting off, the game is themed on the idea of Indo-futurism, which simply put, is the studio’s imagining of a world where the Indus valley civilization is so technologically advanced that it flew off to a distant galaxy, with the rest of humanity just discovering it in the year 2500. The game also incorporates visuals, themes, and locations inspired by the culture and architecture of India over the years but with a futuristic twist.

Indus Battle Royale

Coming to the gameplay, the trailer features a short segment of a player in first-person mode and the graphics look quite clean and give off a fictional vibe. We also get multiple shots of the mercenaries who are fighting against one another in the battle royale disintegrating into pixels upon death. Among the guns featured in the trailer, the sniper and the pistol leave quite an impression as heavy hitters. The studio has previously teased an LMG dubbed “The Devastator”, with a rate of fire that increases the longer you hold the trigger.

Indus Battle Royale

All in all, the game appears to have the potential to be the next big thing in the BR genre, and given the fact that devs are focusing a lot on the story aspect of the game, we can expect that to translate into cosmetics and special events like battle passes and game modes.

But the big question now is if the game can deliver on its promises of a unique experience based on the Indus theme. The question will most likely be answered next year when the game is expected to launch.

Pre-registrations for the game on the other hand will go live later this year, so stay tuned for more updates.

Honor Magic V2, Magic UI 7.0 tipped to launch in December

Honor is reportedly working on its next foldable phone. Speculations are rife that it may debut in the Chinese market with the Honor Magic V2 moniker. A tipster from China has hinted at the launch timeframe of the Magic V2. In addition, another leak that surfaced revealed its battery capacity.

According to a Chinese tipster, the Magic V2 foldable phone and the Magic UI 7.0 will be announced together in December 2022. He added that the Magic V2 will be a thinner and lighter device as compared to its predecessor, the Honor Magic V, which debuted in January this year.

Unfortunately, there is no information on the specifications of the Magic V2. Since Chinese smartphone OEMs have been busy launching Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 powered devices, it appears that the same chip may power the Magic V2.

Recently, tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that Honor’s upcoming foldable phone will be equipped with a dual-cell 2,030mAh / 2,870mAh battery. He added that the battery offered a combined typical value of around 5,000mAh. To recall, the predecessor model was equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and a 4,750mAh battery.

Several Chinese brands are gearing up to launch their foldable phones in the remaining months of this year. Recent reports have revealed that OPPO’s foldable phone will be called the OPPO Find N Fold, whereas Vivo’s iteration will be dubbed as the Vivo X Fold S.. Huawei is also expected to launch its foldable smartphone in December this year. These devices will compete with the likes of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 that have recently gone official in China.

Apple wants to expand its Advertising business, may soon bring more ads to iPhones: Report

Advertising is not Apple’s lifeblood; it relies more on hardware sales. However, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is looking to expand its Ad business and is aiming to bring annual revenue into the “double digits”. The company is projected to bring ads to more of the apps that come pre-installed on the iPhone and other Apple devices, including Maps, Books, and Podcasts.

Gurman claims that Apple has already tested incorporating sponsored results to search results in the Maps app. A similar advertising strategy has been established by the company on the App Store, where developers may pay to have their app promoted on a search page for a specific query.

apple logo featured

Apple might potentially add advertisements to its built-in Books and Podcasts apps too. This would make it possible for publishers to add advertisements to specific app areas or pay to boost their content in search results. Books, Podcasts, and Maps are all currently ad-free.

Apple ads revenue currently comes from the App Store Search Ads, ads in Apple News, and a few more sources. The company’s total ad revenue is $4 billion and it is reportedly aiming to triple its ad revenue to double-digit figures.

Gurman also makes reference to the possibility of advertising on Apple TV Plus, he claims that the Cupertino company may decide to establish a less expensive ad-supported tier, similar to what Netflix and Disney Plus are planning to do by the end of this year.

Apple’s smartphone sales have declined significantly in recent years. To counter that, the company has resorted to various revenue-generating services, including ads. While more ads will definitely boost Apple’s revenue, it will also ruin the overall user experience.
