Qualcomm is one of the leading players in the market when it comes to smartphone processors. The company has also forayed into making chips for wearable devices but hasn’t seen much success in that space.
Now, the company has revamped its wearable chips lineup with the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chips.
The first major change is that the company has ditched the Snapdragon Wear branding, and the newly announced chips will be a part of the main Snapdragon branding. Although the Wear branding has been removed, the chips are still aimed at wearable devices.
The Snapdragon W5 is aimed at budget or simpler devices like smartwatches aimed at kids, or fitness trackers, the Snapdragon W5 Plus is for more premium wearable devices. The main difference between W5 and W5+ Gen 1 is that the non-Plus model doesn’t come with an AON Co-Processor.
The platform keeps the hybrid architecture that was found in the Snapdragon Wear 3100 and 4100 chips. The new chips feature a main processor that takes care of interactive tasks, and there’s also a co-processor for an always-on display to help save battery life.
The co-processor can handle tasks related to audio, health tracking features, keyword detection for digital assistants, and notifications. It can also support onboard machine learning, but it’s up to the companies to make use of it.
Another major change comes in the form of the manufacturing process for the chips. The W5 and W5+ are manufactured using a 4nm process for the main processor, a huge jump from the 12nm process for the predecessors. The co-processor is made using a 22nm process, which is also an upgrade compared to the 28nm processor in its predecessor.
In comparison, Samsung Exynos W920, which powers the Galaxy Watch 4 series, is made using a 5nm process, while the Apple S7 chip for the Watch Series 7 uses a 7nm process.
Coming to the battery life, the company says that the W5+can provide up to 50% longer battery life by taking up 30% less space than previous generations. Qualcomm has also worked closely with Google to optimize Wear OS for the new SoC.
Qualcomm has revealed that the first smartwatches powered by the Snapdragon W5 will soon be up for sale. OPPO Watch 3 is said to be the first device using this new chips and will launch next month.
The Redmi K50S and Redmi K50S Pro are rumored to be in the works. Yesterday, iQOO announced the iQOO 10 and iQOO 10 Pro smartphones in China. Soon after its announcement, Redmi General Manager, Lu Weibing, took to Weibo to tease Redmi’s upcoming flagship phone, which will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. It looks like the rumoured Redmi K50S series could come out in China as soon as next month (August).
Weibing has teased the arrival of a new K50 series phone with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip onboard. Most likely, he is teasing the release of the Redmi K50S series, which is expected to have the latest chip from Qualcomm.
An upcoming Xiaomi phone with model number 22081212C was spotted at the CMIIT certification last month. The device was approved by China’s 3C authority earlier this month. The 3C listing revealed that the device may arrive with a 120W fast charger. Rumors are rife that this device will be made official with the Redmi K50S Pro moniker in the home market.
Since the Redmi K50S Pro has already bagged 3C certification, it seems it may break cover in August. The model number of the Redmi K50S is 22071212AC. It is yet to bag any certification in China.
The K50S Pro is expected to arrive with a 120Hz OLED display, an SD8+G1 chip, 8 GB / 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. It is also tipped to debut as Xiaomi’s first 200-megapixel camera phone.
Rumors are rife that the Redmi K50S and Redmi K50S Pro will be rebranded in the global market. These devices are expected get rebadged as the Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro.

Now, the South Korean giant has officially announced the next Galaxy Unpacked event to be hosted on 10th August. Samsung will launch the next-generation flagship foldable smartphones at this launch event.
The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will take place on 10th August at 09:00 AM EST, and the event will be live streamed on the company’s official website as well as its Youtube channel.
The teaser image shared by the company shows a clamshell foldable smartphone, which is likely to be the Galaxy Z Flip 4. On the poster, the smartphone is shown in a manner that acts as a “greater than” symbol.
The upcoming smartphones will come powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Along with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, the company is also expected to launch the next-generation Galaxy Watch 5 series smartwatches at the launch event next month.
Redmi will be unveiling the Redmi K50i 5G smartphone in India today (July 20). The event will take place at 12 pm (local time) today and will be live-streamed through Redmi India’s YouTube channel. A handful of new phones are scheduled to go on sale in India through the Amazon Prime Days 2022 sale, which will take place on July 23 and July 24 in India. It appears that the K50i 5G will also go on sale during the upcoming shopping festival on Amazon. The device is likely to carry a starting price of Rs 25,999 in the country.
A Twitter user spotted the Redmi K50i 5G ad on Amazon India’s Instagram handle. The ad, which is no longer showing on the e-commerce giant’s Instagram account, mentions that the Redmi K50i 5G will go on sale with a starting price of Rs 25,999 through the Prime Day sale. The advertisement also mentions that ICICI Bank and SBI Bank customers will be able to save 10 percent on credit/debit cards and EMI transactions.
The Redmi K50i 5G teasers have revealed that it will arrive in three colors, such as Stealth Black, Phantom Blue, and Quick Silver. It will be equipped with an LCD panel that carries support for Dolby Vision, a 64-megapixel triple camera unit, and a Dimensity 8100 chipset. According to the company, the 67W Turbo Charge feature of the device will allow users to get a full day’s charge in just 15 minutes.
Past reports have claimed that it will be a rebranded version of China’s Redmi Note 11T Pro, which debuted in May this year. It will be equipped with a 6.67-inch LCD FHD+ 144Hz display, D8100 chip, up to 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,080mAh battery with 67W charging support. It will have a 16-megapixel front camera and a 64-megapixel (main) + 8-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 2-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit.
A recent report claimed that Samsung may not launch the Galaxy S22 FE (Fan Edition) this year. Now, a new report by South Korean publication The Elec claims that Samsung has stopped developing the Galaxy S22 FE. Instead of releasing the S22 FE, the company supposedly wants to sell more units of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
According to the report, Samsung has allocated the chipsets that were supposed to be used on the Galaxy S22 FE chips to the S22 Ultra in order to increase its production. The S22 Ultra has reportedly been met with strong sales amid a chipset shortage issue. The South Korean tech giant will aim at selling more units of the S22 Ultra to boost sales and profits.
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE
Samsung had previously planned to produce 3 million units of the Galaxy S22 FE this year. While the S22 FE seems to have been axed, the report claims that the Galaxy S23 FE will debut next year. It even mentions that the company plans to produce 3 million units of the S23 FE.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is Samsung’s first Galaxy S-series phone to feature a built-in stylus. The annual shipments of the Galaxy S-series have been declining for the past two years. However, the company has sold 10 million units of the S22 Ultra in the first half of 2022 and it expects to ship the same number of units in the second half of the year. The S22 Ultra is driving the sales of the S22 lineup. Hence, it appears that the company is reassigning S22 FE chips to S22 Ultra.
When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S20 FE in 2020, it said that it would be launching FE variants every year. While the S22 FE seems to be cancelled, it appears that it will bring back the FE model next year by launching the Galaxy S23 FE.
Realme launched a brand new premium flagship in the Chinese market: the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition. It came alone, without other variants, if we exclude the various color options and memory configurations. But despite being a more recent flagship, a lot of people noticed that it has a few downgrades if compared to the previous flagship Realme GT 2 Pro. That is the reason why, even though it is fueled by a stronger processor, a lot of people are wondering which of these two devices is the real top-tier flagship from the brand and which provides the highest value for money. This comparison between the specifications of the Realme GT 2 Pro and the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition will let you find out.

Design
If we consider the design, these two devices are very innovative. The Paper Green and the Paper White color variants of the Realme GT 2 Pro are built with a special bio-polymer that resembles the touch and feel of the paper. You can even draw with a pencil on the back cover and erase everything with a rubber, just like you do with a piece of paper. But despite this amazing solution, the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition is even more interesting. It comes with a leather back and a metal frame reminding of a travel trunk, it sports flat borders and one of the highest screen to body ratios ever seen on a phone, with the display covering more than 90 percent of the front panel. Which one do you prefer?
Display
One of the downgrades of the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition is the display: it has an OLED panel with a diagonal of 6.7 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader. The display of the Realme GT 2 Pro has the same specifications with the exception of the resolution: on this device, it is higher. We are talking about a Quad HD+ resolution providing a higher level of detail. But that is not all: the Realme GT 2 Pro adds the LTPO 2.0 technology (adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz) lowering the energy consumption and it is able to show up to one billion colors. Last but not least, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and the phone is splash resistant. Both the handsets sport stereo speakers but they have no 3.5 mm audio jack.
Specs & Software
The hardware department of the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition is actually superior to the one found on the Realme GT 2 Pro for a simple reason: the processor. It is powered by the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform: a chipset built at 4 nm with an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 power core running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 cores running at 2.75 GHz, four Cortex A510 running at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 730 GPU. It is actually an upgrade of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 found on the Realme GT 2 Pro, providing better CPU performance thanks to a higher clock frequency. The best memory configuration of the Realme GT 2 Pro sports 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of native storage, while the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition stops at 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The handsets run Android 12 customized by Realme UI 3.0, they will get three years of major Android updates and four years of security patches.
Camera
The rear camera departments of these two devices are not very different. They both come with a 50 MP Sony IMX766 main camera with OIS and a 50 MP ultrawide sensor, but the third camera is different. On the Realme GT 2 Pro, you get a 3 MP microscope sensor with 40x magnification, while the Master Explorer Edition has just a 2 MP macro camera. The Pro variant wins even when it comes to the front camera, with a 32 MP sensor instead of a 16 MP one.
These phones come with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. You should expect only marginal differences in terms of battery life, but the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition is able to charge quicker thanks to 100W fast charging.
Price
The starting price of the Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition in the Chinese market roughly translates into €560 or $560, while you need €699 or $699 to purchase the Realme GT 2 Pro. The Pro variant is very interesting due to its better display and front camera, but the Master Explorer Edition has a superior chipset and faster charging speeds. Which one would you pick?

According to the official announcement posts on Oppo Community and OnePlus Community, the new recruitment for these devices is for ‘nolog’ version. This version of beta builds will have the log grab switch turned off by default.
Hence, Oppo says that these ColorOS 13 beta builds based on Android 13 will offer better performance and battery life than the previously released ones, in which the log grab switch is always turned on.
Either way, both versions of the ColorOS 13 Closed Beta builds are said to have multiple bugs. The company even warns that certain banking applications are incompatible as of now. It also talks about the possibility of issues with other third-party apps.
Interested users in China can enroll themselves in the program from July 18 till 12 PM CST on July 20. Oppo has only allocated 1,500 seats for each of these three handsets.
At the moment, it is not known when the global wing of Oppo/Oneplus will announce the Android 13-based ColorOS 13/OxygenOS 13 Closed Beta program for Oppo Find X5, Oppo Find X5 Pro, and OnePlus 10 Pro.
