OnePlus Nord 2 update brings missing November security patch to European and American devices

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, released the latest update to their OxygenOS for their midrange OnePlus Nord 2 device. The update brings a couple of changes to the device with a major feature that has been missing from the European and North American versions of the handset.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G featured

Last month, OnePlus released the November update for the Nord 2 devices, including general bug fixes, performance optimization, and stability changes. But one notable difference between the Indian and other versions was that the Indian update included the November security patch, while the European and North American variants got the October security patch. It is still unclear why this disparity happened, but OnePlus might be correcting it with this update.

OnePlus Nord 2 December update

The latest A.14 update to the OxygenOS for the OnePlus Nord 2 5G arrived on December 7th, and a changelog for the update was posted on the official OnePlus forum. It features system optimization and stability changes for all three variants, namely, Indian, European, and North American. In addition to that, the European and North American OnePlus Nord 2 devices finally received the November security patch.

The thin changelog might even indicate another update in the works that brings the December security patch to all variants of the device.

If you have not received this OTA update yet, you can check its availability by heading to Settings > System > System updates on your device. Additionally, Indian customers interested in buying a new OnePlus device can take advantage of the massive discounts being offered on Amazon and OnePlus India’s website right now.

According to the industry sources of 91Mobiles, Samsung has kickstarted the production of the Galaxy A53 at its Greater Noida factory in India. For those unaware, this Samsung facility is the world’s largest smartphone factory.

The Galaxy A53 will be slightly different than Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A52s 5G in terms of design. Most importantly, it will lack a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The handset is reported to arrive in a single 5G variant. It could be powered by a yet-to-be-announced Exynos SoC with AMD mRDNA GPU.

Other expected features include a 64MP quad-camera setup on the back and a 5,000mAh battery. Last but not least, the smartphone is expected to come in four colors, namely white, black, light blue, and orange.

OnePlus 9RT and OnePlus Buds Z2 India launch imminent, support pages spotted

The India launch of the much-awaited OnePlus 9RT and OnePlus Buds Z2 is now closer than ever as the products have now gained official support pages on the OnePlus website for the country. The former was spotted under the ‘Phone’ section while the latter was seen under ‘Accessories’, tipster Mukul Sharma told 91mobiles.

Clicking on both, however, leads to a page saying that “The page is coming soon.” The OnePlus Buds Z2 do pop up on Google though with the tagline “Play with silence”.

The OnePlus 9RT was previously expected to be launched in November but the date has been pushed further due to an unknown reason. The phone is a successor to the OnePlus 9R launched earlier this year and brings along a number of meaningful upgrades. In China, it was already released on October 19th. Some rumors suggest that it could be rebranded as the OnePlus RT in India.

As for specs, the OnePLus 9RT is powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. Its display is sized 6.62-inches and is an E4 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1300nits peak brightness, HDR10+ support, and 600Hz touch response. It packs a 4,500mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging. Its rear camera setup comprises a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera, a 16MP wide-angle lens, and a macro lens.

The OnePlus Buds Z2 come with an upgraded design that has done away with plastic tips in favor of in-ear silicone ones for a more comfy fit. The earbuds feature 11mm drivers and support AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs. But perhaps the best bit is the all-new ANC support with claims of reducing noise by up to 40dB. The battery life is claimed to be 7 hours without the case.

OPPO Find N foldable phone live images leaked, company also drops new teaser video

OPPO just announced that its first foldable phone called the OPPO Find N will be released on December 15th and the company has now begun teasing the device bit by bit. The latest teaser comes in the form of a video showing the entire front of the device.

The video seems to show that the phone has little to no crease at all along the line where it folds. It’s just a render but if the device indeed looks so in real life, it will be pushing ahead of Samsung’s foldable display tech which always has a crease in the middle – an annoyance that takes time getting used to.

But the official video pales in comparison to a newer leak (via Abhishek Yadav) showing perhaps the very first live images of the device ever. Both the front and rear of the device have been exposed. The rear view shows a triple camera array with a flash and a back panel with a matte finish.

The front, on the other hand, not only exposes most of the phone’s display with its left-aligned punch-hole but also reveals several key specs of the device along with its price.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor and has a 4500mAh battery with support for 33W wired and 15W wireless charging. Its rear camera module comprises a Sony IMX766 50MP sensor that is joined by 16MP and 13MP sensors. Upfront, there’s a 32MP selfie shooter.

The OPPO Find N has an LTPO 120Hz main display while the external one has a refresh rate of 60Hz. For haptics, a top-of-the-line X-axis linear motor has been used.

The price of the foldable phone for the 8GB+256GB variant stands at ¥12999 (~$2,040) while the 12GB+256GB one costs ¥13999 (~$2,197).

Google will bring Android games to Windows 10 and 11 next year

Google plans to bring Android games to the Windows OS next year through a special version of the Google Play Games app. The app will be built for Windows and will allow games from Google Play to run on Windows laptops, tablets, and PCs.

Greg Hartrell, Google’s product director of games on Android and Google Play, revealed that the implementation will allow seamless switching between phones, tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs, allowing your favorite titles from Android to run on more devices than ever before. Games can be resumed on another device after playing on one.

google play games featured

Google spokesperson Alex Garcia-Kummert told The Verge that the company has built the app entirely on its own, without a partnership with Microsoft, BlueStacks, or others. It’s unclear what technology is being used to emulate Android apps on Windows. All we know is that games will run locally instead of streaming from the cloud.

The Google Play Games app will also be distributed by Google itself and will support Windows 10 and up, with no special integration with the OS. Microsoft’s Android apps virtualization only supports Windows 11, so it’s great to see now that older Windows 10 machines will also be at least able to run games from Android. Google does not seem to be interested in running standard Android apps on Windows though.

For now, Google has only teased the app during The Game Awards held yesterday and has promised a release sometime in 2022.

With the hearables category booming, especially in regards to the truly wireless earbuds segment, it arrives as no surprise that the Finnish brand is also seeking to compete in the market. However, the brand will have its work cut out for it since the audio accessory category has highly competitive Chinese smartphone makers as well. This includes brands like, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Realme, and even POCO is set to join in as well.

In an interview with India Today, Sanmeet Singh Kochhar, Vice President for HMD Global stated that the company plans of bringing more audio based products to India next year. This would include the likes of TWS earbuds, wired headphones, and more. The official added that “TWS earbuds and wired headphones are big markets right now and we are focused on these. Depending on the price band, we will have our audio offerings on both online and offline platforms. It will likely be a 40 to 50 per cent online presence and the rest in the offline market.”

Nokia True Wireless Earbuds

Kochhar believes that these new audio accessories will pair well with Nokia smartphones. As of right now, the brand only has a limited offering of products in the hearables category, with one being the Power Earbuds Lite, and the other being the Nokia True Wireless Earbuds. Both of these are Bluetooth powered earphones. Apart from audio products, the company is even seeking to bring new tablets into the region as well. Earlier, it had launched its first ever T20 tablet, which the official said performed well. So, the company is also seeking to expand on its large screen device offering.

Entire Xiaomi 12 series protective cases leaked revealing rather peculiar camera setups

The Xiaomi 12 is the next flagship phone of the company and will be replacing this year’s Mi 11. It is said to be one of the first devices, if not the very first, to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. While there have been extensive leaks on its specifications, its design and appearance have been in the dark but that’s starting to change now.

User @WHYLAB on Weibo has leaked images of purported protective cases for not just the vanilla Xiaomi 12, but the entire lineup that also includes the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Ultra.

We earlier did have leaked renders for the standard Xiaomi 12 model and this newer case leak sits quite well with it, meaning that it’s likely accurate unless Xiaomi decides to make some last-minute changes (which is highly unlikely). The cameras have been arranged in a manner, not unlike the one found on the Xiaomi Civi, with a large opening for the primary camera topping two smaller sensors.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro appears to have a near-identical camera setup to the vanilla model.

But it’s the Xiaomi 12 Ultra that’s the most eye-catching of the bunch with a case with a total of eight cutouts! It’s not clear exactly what Xiaomi has got in mind here with the ginormous center-aligned camera module, but we do expect at least three of the cutouts to be cameras. The rest of them, well, could be anything including random sensors, noise cancellation mics, and multiple flashlights.

Xiaomi 12
Xiaomi 12 leaked render

Another surprising thing that the case, if indeed true, reveals is that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra may not be featuring a secondary display at the back at all. A large part of the rear panel has been occupied by the camera module alone and there do not appear to be any cutouts for a display – unless, of course, if the huge gaping hole in the center is actually meant to be one.

As for specs, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro are expected to come with 120Hz OLED panels, be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and support 67W and 120W charging, respectively. The pricing of the Xiaomi 12 series could start from 4,299 yuan, which roughly converts to $680.

Although, the Watch D is expected to be released for a price lower than the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Notably, the smartwatch will likely support Huawei Health app as well, which would allow users to keep and track a detailed history of their blood pressure results and monitor any changes. However, the December 23 launch is in line with our previous report regarding a December release timeline for the Watch D. So stay tuned for more updates.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could be called the S22 Note, tipster suggests

A reliable tipster has hinted that the priciest from the upcoming S22 lineup, which had unofficially been dubbed as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, could in fact be called the Galaxy S22 Note.

The info comes from Tron who on Twitter stated that the S22 Ultra is now “dead” and that the next is actually the S22 Note. If true, it would be signalling a resurrection of sorts of the now-defunct Galaxy Note series.

To recall, the last Note model from Samsung was the Galaxy Note 20 series released back in August 2020, following which the lineup was binned in favor of foldable offerings. But many have argued that foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series are still in no way a true replacement for the Note series. The Galaxy Z Fold even comes with S Pen support but it was never really about that.

You see, the Galaxy Note phones had always been a beefed-up version of the S series. They were a great way to acquire the latest and greatest hardware the year had to offer, but also brought about a few small upgrades over the S series that would typically debut a few months earlier. The Note phones were also highly focused on productivity and even offered featured dedicated S Pen slots – something still missing on both the latest Galaxy S21 Ultra and Z Fold3.

Due to these reasons, they had amassed a die-hard fanbase over the years – something that Samsung now appears to be aiming to be capitalizing on once more. The original purpose of killing the Note lineup has been fulfilled after all, since the company’s foldable offerings are currently selling like hotcakes.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Alleged photo of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (or Note)

But then again, Samsung does not want a Note phone eating into its foldables sales, which explains why the device is being sold as part of the S22 series and not as a standalone like it always was.

Regardless, it is important to stress here that the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Note naming scheming suggested by the tipster is still nothing but a rumor, so be sure to take it with a pinch of salt.

As for the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or the S22 Note, if that’s what you want to call it, the phone will be featuring a familiar boxy ‘Note’ design and even sport an S Pen slot. Its rear cameras will be in a quad 108MP + 10MP + 10MP + 12MP setup and the device is expected to be announced sometime in February.

What’s interesting about the live shot is that it will also come in a 1TB storage edition. This variant will include 12 GB of RAM. It appears that the flagship phone will arrive in multiple RAM and storage combinations. Since the handset is kept in a protective case, it does not showcase its entire front design. Our exclusive leak revealed that the GT 2 Pro may arrive in two variants, one featuring a punch-hole screen and the other with an under-display camera.

Recent reports have revealed that the Realme GT 2 Pro has a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel that produces QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. For selfies, it may feature a 32-megapixel front camera. The rear-facing camera unit of the GT 2 Pro may include a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main camera with OIS support, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a telephoto lens.

The GT 2 Pro’s battery capacity is not known yet. Probably, it will house a 5,000mAh battery like the Realme GT Neo2. It is likely to carry support for 65W fast charging.
