HUAWEI P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 SoC tipped to go on sale in late December

The HUAWEI P50 series was announced at the end of July. The lineup consists of two models, namely HUAWEI P50 and HUAWEI P50 Pro. The latter model is powered by two different chipsets – Kirin 9000 and Snapdragon 888, while the former only comes with the Qualcomm chip. The Pro model with the Snapdragon chip is now finally tipped to go on sale soon.

HUAWEI P50 Pro

At the launch conference, Huawei revealed that the Snapdragon 888 version of the HUAWEI P50 Pro will be available in December. Now, ahead of the said month, a reliable Huawei-focused tipster has shed availability details on this variant of the handset.

According to the leaker, the HUAWEI P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 will go on sale in late December. Additionally, he says that there will not be a 5G version of both HUAWEI P50 and HUAWEI P50 Pro. Also, Huawei will not be releasing HUAWEI P50 Pro+.

For those unaware, the P50 series is limited to 4G connectivity due to the sanctions by the US government. Although there are rumors of the HUAWEI Mate50 series with 5G connectivity in 2022, its release is uncertain at the moment.

Hence, if you are interested in a new Huawei flagship smartphone, then the 4G-only HUAWEI P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is expected to hit the shelves next month, is the only viable option.

The Qualcomm variant of the P50 Pro is expected to retail at the following price tags if Huawei does not make any changes before the sale.

HUAWEI P50 Pro (Snapdragon 888) Price

  • 8GB + 128GB – ¥5,988 ($937)
  • 8GB + 256GB – ¥6,488 ($1,016)
  • 8GB + 512GB – ¥7,488 ($1,172)

Smartphone with 150W charging now coming soon, as if 120W wasn’t fast enough

Chinese phones manufacturers have been at the forefront of fast charging tech, first normalizing the 33W standard and now slowly making 67W fast charging available to the masses. Some flagship-level phones have even breached the 120W mark. But as it stands, companies are not done yet pushing the boundaries of how quickly a battery can be filled up.

Tipster Digital Station on Weibo has hinted that a 150W charging solution is on the way, adding in the comments that a mass-produced device will be “coming soon.”

digital chat station 150w charging

Obviously, 120W is blazing fast already and is capable of filling up a ~4500mAh device from 0 to 100 in under 20 minutes. But companies and people both are obsessed with numbers, hence the push for even higher wattage. 150W should shave off several more minutes off the total charging time, although there is more to charging speeds than wattage.

No one doubts companies’ ability to reach 150W. After all, Xiaomi has already been working on 200W charging tech. The only concern here is battery degradation. OPPO and Xiaomi recently stated that their 120W/125W charging solutions results in 20% degradation over a period of 2 years or 800 charge cycles. This isn’t too impressive, but who cares if it results in phones charging to 100% within the time it takes for one to take a shower? Moreover, 20% degradation isn’t the end of the world especially considering that most people use their phones for only 2-3 years.

Further, the technology is new and is bound to improve over time. This obviously doesn’t mean that companies are releasing fast charging tech without sufficient testing. But it does mean that worrying about the amount of battery one got on their phone may soon turn into a thing of the past.

This $8 accessory adds MagSafe to regular Apple iPhone 12 & 13 cases

With the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, Apple had offered the MagSafe charging solution. While this feature is useful, most normal cases for these devices block the magnet inside the iPhones. But now, here’s an affordable accessory that turns even regular phone cases into MagSafe compatible ones.

Apple

The accessory in question is made by Anker and is basically a magnetic ring that can be attached to the back of the case. This make the MagSafe functional again on a regular phone case. This gadget is called the Anker 310 Magnetic Ring and is currently available for purchase via Amazon for a price of just 8 US Dollars. It arrives with an adhesive on one side, which you can stick to the back of the case. Although, you’ll have to use the the included alignment tool to position it properly.

After doing this, users can simply charge their iPhones with a MagSafe accessory from the case itself. Notably, Anker claims that this stick is also reusable so you can even switch out cases for another since the accessory can be removed and reattached. However, keep in mind that there is a limitation. iPhones with a thick case or one with a textured back would not be able to use MagSafe regardless of the new Anker accessory.

Apple

As per the official notes, “Phone cases that have an uneven surface or exceed 2mm in thickness, such as Otterbox defender cases, are not recommended for use.” Apart from that, an iPhone 12 and 13 series model is the basic requirements since earlier iPhone iterations do not offer in built MagSafe solution support.

HYPER launches HyperDrive Triple 4K Display Dock for MacBook Pro 2016-21

HYPER today announced the launch of its HyperDrive 4K Multi-Display Dock that’s designed for 13, 14, 15, and 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro models. It supports up to three 4K displays on larger Macs.

The material used is aluminum and the dock can be fitted underneath a MacBook Pro (via MacRumors). Using it will provide additional benefits as HYPER says it offers ergonomic benefits and aids the laptop in heat dissipation.

hyperdrive-multi-display-dock-1 (1)

As for ports, the dock comes with three HDMI ones and three DisplayPorts, all of which support 4K displays with a refresh rate of up to 60Hz. With it, you get a Gigabit Ethernet port and a 100W USB-C PD port for charging purposes. There are also two USB-C ports with support for 10Gbps data transfer, a USB-A port also with 10Gbps transfer speeds, a couple of extra 5Gbps USB-A ports, and an SD card slot with support for 104MBps transfer speeds.

HYPER claims that the dock isn’t like anything on the market right now as it lets users create a triple 4K display setup using any combination of ports. The HyperDrive Dock connects to the MacBook with three USB-C cable.

One cable links 11 ports, including an HDMI/DisplayPort port, while another one to two cables connect one to two additional HDMI/DisplayPort ports. All three wires must be connected for all 15 ports to be operational.

hyperdrive-multi-display-dock-2

HYPER is using a two-part modular approach for the HyperDrive. The 13 and 14-inch MacBook Pros get the main part of the dock that comes with 13 ports, including two HDMI and DisplayPort ports. The 15 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models on the other hand get a magnetic extension that adds an additional DisplayPort and HDMI port to enable triple display support.

The HyperDrive 4K Multi-Display Dock works with any USB Type-C MacBook Pro from 2016 to 2021 and even supports Windows PCs, Chromebooks, and more.

It is presently available on Indiegogo with a price starting at $124 for the 13 and 14-inch versions. The full dock is priced starting at $149. HYPER says that the docks will begin shipping in December 2021. At launch, the 13/14-inch version will retail for $249.99 while the full version will retail for $299.99.

New affordable Ola electric scooters, motorcycles confirmed to be in works

India-based ridesharing company announced its electric scooters named Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro in August. Both models are priced at Rs 99,999 (~Rs 1,345) and Rs 1,29,999 (~$1,749) in the country. It appears that the company is planning to launch multiple electric vehicles in the coming years.

Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has confirmed that the company will be developing electric motorcycles and affordable electric scooters from 2022. Here is a tweet that confirms it.

Ola has also shown an interest in developing its version of the electric car. It is known that the company has hired key employees from the industry for the electric car segment. The company is also planning to launch e-bikes in future.

Considering that the Ola S1 starts at Rs 99,999, the new affordable Ola electric scooter could be priced around Rs 70,000 (~$942) or Rs 80,000 (~$1,076) in the country. This will allow the company to rival similarly priced scooters like the Honda Active and TVS Jupiter.

Ola S1 Pro Electric Scooter

The cheaper electric scooter by Ola may offer a conservative performance since it is likely to include a lower-rated battery. Probably, it may allow the scooter to run around 100km on a single charge. Ola S1 and S1 Pro offer some advanced features such as a touchscreen display, speakers, voice assistant, Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth, proximity unlock/lock, cruise control, and so on. It is likely that some of these features will be unavailable on the affordable Ola scooter that may debut in 2022.

Ola registered Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro moniker in July and announced these models in September. Hence, it is likely that the company may adopt the same strategy next year. As far as S1 and S1 Pro are concerned, the company will be opening the next purchase window for these scooters on Dec. 16.

Hyundai’s Genesis to launch electric version of its GV70 SUV in China this week

Hyundai‘s luxury car brand spin off, Genesis, has revealed that it will be launching the electric variant of its GV70 SUV later this week in China. The company will unveil the car at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

Hyundai

Genesis even released a teaser image poster that showcased the front of the vehicle. AS of right now, it seems that the new model will be called the Electrified GV70. Notably, this will be the company’s third fully electric Genesis model that is launching after the Electrified G80 and the GV60. In terms of design, the new GV70 resembles the G80 EV. The Genesis car still feature the signature crest grille, but its made up of solid diamond shapes that hide the integrated charge port.

Under the hood, the Electrified GV70 is expected to sport specs similar to the G80. For those unaware, the sedan model features an 87.2kWh battery pack paired with two electric motors that output a total of 365 horsepower. Furthermore, it supports an all wheel drive system, with the option of disconnecting the front motor. Its range is expected to be around 250 miles (roughly 400 kilometers).

Hyundai’s Grandeur EV fuses retro and futuristic elements to give a perfect ode to the ’80s

Hyundai Motor Company is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its flagship Grandeur car from 1986 by recreating it with a twist. It now conforms to all of the newfangled standards of technology, even pulling a step ahead in some bits, and is as such fitted with a modern electric drivetrain.

hyundai grandeur ev

The exterior is where most of the charm lies, with the car looking straight out of the Cyberpunk 2077 videogame owing to its retro design. Most of the outside still is reminiscent of the original Hyundai Grandeur, but there have been subtle changes – updated side mirrors, covered wheels, side cladding, and pixel-style LED headlights and tail lights – enough to make the car sufficiently futuristic.

But perhaps the best bit is Hyundai’s choice of color. The EV comes in black, with equally dark windows, almost as if it’s hiding something villainous. The only thing that helps cool off its sinister vibes is the bit of chrome finishing on the side cladding as well as grille, without which the car would’ve looked far more menacing than it already does.

Nevertheless, a tasteful exterior is nothing if it’s combined with unrefined interiors. A car owner, after all, spends most of their time inside the vehicle than standing outside gawking at it. Hyundai’s design team knows of this and has made sure that the insides are every bit as plushy and luxurious as the car’s exterior may lead one to believe.

Accordingly, the car’s interior follows a ‘Newtro (newness + retro) concept theme’  just like the exterior. You get bronze-colored lighting all-around complemented by burgundy velvet and Napa leather for the seats and the rest of the upholstery. There’s even a large display up-front to satisfy all the infotainment needs. Hyundai also says that the car has been fitted with a ‘modern audiophile sound system’ comprised of 18-speakers, so there’s that.

hyundai grandeur ev rear

Unfortunately, the Hyundai Grandeur EV is nothing but a concept to show off the company’s creativity and heritage. Fans looking to purchase one will have to wait for the unlikely event of Hyundai changing its mind about it all and actually kickstarting the car’s mass production. Still, considering the attention the car has managed to grab, it wouldn’t hurt to produce something like the Mercedes G-Class and Ford Bronco, both of which arguably are pinnacles of retro car design.

The Hyundai Heritage Series Grandeur EV was on display at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang and will be moving to Seoul Motorstudio from November 16-21.

MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update canceled for these Redmi devices

Xiaomi unveiled MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition at the Xiaomi MIX 4 launch event in August. The company has been rolling it out to eligible devices worldwide since then. Now, three months later, the firm reveals that the latest version of MIUI will not be available for select Redmi smartphones.

MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition Logo Featured

According to the Mi Fans Home Telegram channel, Xiaomi has canceled MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update for the following handsets.

  • Redmi Note 7 Pro
  • Redmi Note 7S
  • Redmi Note 7
  • Redmi Y3
  • Redmi 7
  • Redmi 7A

The same announcement post also says that the fresh version of MIUI will not be seeded out to Mi A3. It’s not surprising as this phone runs stock Android since it is part of the Android One program.

This is not the first time Xiaomi has canceled an update for its devices. Just last year, two handsets in the above list, namely Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 were said to not receive MIUI 12.

However, the Redmi 7 not only received MIUI 12 but also MIUI 12.5. But unfortunately, the Redmi Y3 got access to neither.

Hence, there’s a chance that some of the phones in the list above might receive the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update. Nevertheless, we don’t have any hope.

What are your thoughts on Xiaomi canceling software updates for the above-mentioned best-selling smartphones? Do let us know in the comment section below.

According to GalaxyClub, the Galaxy A33 has been certified by Safety Korea. As per the certification, the handset will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery (4,885Ah rated) with model number EB-BA336ABY. This battery is manufactured by Ningde Amperex Technology Limited in China.

In other words, the Galaxy A33’s battery capacity will be identical to that of its predecessor Galaxy A32. Although the charging speed is a mystery at the moment, we can expect the phone to support standard 15W Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging.

As far as design is concerned, the handset will resemble the forthcoming Galaxy A53. However, it will have a dewdrop notch instead of a punch-hole. Anyway, it will be available in similar colors, namely black, white, light blue, and orange.

Interestingly, despite being a budget smartphone, it will lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. Further, it will sport a 6.4-inch display. It is speculated to retain the FHD+ AMOLED panel from its forerunner.

Unlike Galaxy A32, Galaxy A33 will only come in a 5G variant. Lastly, it will have a quad-camera setup on the rear but we are yet to grasp details about the sensors.

Samsung is rumored to release the Galaxy A33 in early 2022.
