Apple upgrades the Vision Pro with an M5 chip and a new Dual Knit Band

Apple made a surprise announcement today, unveiling the Vision Pro headset powered by the company’s newly announced M5 chip. The refreshed model replaces the M2 version that debuted in 2023, and it also comes with a new Dual Knit Band and the latest visionOS 26 software.

Apple Vision Pro (M5) Specifications

The biggest change here is under the hood. The M5 chip features a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple claims the headset now renders about 10 percent more pixels on its custom micro-OLED displays compared to the previous generation.

The displays still push over 4K resolution per eye, around 23 million pixels in total, but now support refresh rates up to 120Hz, up from 100Hz before. Apple is still using the R1 chip introduced with the original model to process input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones.

Meanwhile, the improved Neural Engine performance reportedly helps in features like generating Personas and transforming photos into spatial scenes.

Physically, the Vision Pro now ships with a Dual Knit Band designed to better distribute weight and improve comfort. The band’s upper and lower straps are 3D-knitted as a single piece, creating a dual-rib structure for added cushioning, breathability, and stretch.

It comes in small, medium, and large sizes, is sold separately, and remains compatible with the original Vision Pro.

The Vision Pro with M5 chip is rated to deliver 3 hours of run time with the external battery pack. There’s also an upcoming Vision Pro companion app for iPad, which will let users control parts of the headset and queue new games for download remotely.

Apple Vision Pro M5 Price and Availability

Apple is keeping the updated Vision Pro price the same as its predecessor. It starts at $3,499 in the US for the base 256GB model, and is also 512GB and 1TB configurations.

Vision Pro (M5) will go on sale from October 22 in Australia, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, the UK, and the US. Apple says South Korea and Taiwan will be next, though there’s still no word on broader global availability.

iPhone Fold’s hinge to cost only $70–80 to make — much lower than previously expected

Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable phone space is finally taking shape, with the iPhone Fold expected to arrive in 2026. But the real buzz this week isn’t about its design or specs — it’s about its hinge. According to a new report, Apple has managed to make the hinge dramatically cheaper to produce, which could give the company a big profit boost while keeping its trademark premium pricing intact.

Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone Fold’s hinge is expected to cost just $70 to $80, lower than the previously estimated $100 to $120, thanks to Foxconn’s optimized assembly process. Most of the hinges — around 65% — will reportedly come from a joint venture between Foxconn and Shin Zu Shing, while Amphenol will handle the rest. Down the road, Luxshare-ICT could join the supply chain after 2027, helping drive costs even lower. Kuo calls the hinge a “new battleground for system assemblers,” suggesting competition will only intensify as more players join in.

The hinge is a crucial piece of any foldable phone — it defines both the feel and the durability. By cutting costs here, Apple can either enjoy wider margins or, less likely, pass savings to consumers. Realistically, it means Apple will have more room to invest in high-end features like a crease-resistant flexible display or improved camera hardware, all while maintaining a strong profit margin.

Pricing is still anyone’s guess, but with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 sitting around $1,999, it’s safe to assume the iPhone Fold won’t come cheap — likely over $2,000.

As competition in the foldable market tightens, Apple’s move shows its old strategy still holds: innovate where it counts, streamline the rest, and make every part of the process pay off. The iPhone Fold might not just fold — it might redefine what premium means in a foldable phone.

Samsung may beat its own schedule to finish One UI 8 rollout in October

One UI 8 update rollout

Samsung’s making a strong comeback with One UI 8 following a terrible One UI 7 rollout. The Android 15-based update was supposed to be released last year, but the company only delivered delay after delay, pushing the stable rollout to April 2025. However, that’s a completely different story with One UI 8, as Samsung is on track to wrap up the rollout a month in advance.

After kicking off the One UI 8 beta program in May, starting with the Galaxy S25 series and later expanding it to more Galaxy phones, Samsung finally decided to push the stable release in mid-September. The Galaxy S25 phones were the first in the line to get the Android 16-based One UI 8 update, but the rollout speed since then has been nothing short of impressive.

From being one of the delayed brands to release Android 15, Samsung flipped the coin with Android 16, becoming the first brand (after Google) to push the stable Android 16 update. While the One UI 8 update started rolling out in September, it debuted a month earlier on Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Related:
1. Here’s the official One UI 8 rollout schedule
2. One UI 8 stable update is now available for these Samsung devices

One UI 8 rollout pace has been remarkable

The Galaxy S25 series was scheduled to receive the One UI 8 update in September, and Samsung delivered on its promise. It was good to see the brand sticking to its promise, but what’s more impressive was that the update also reached several Galaxy phones ahead of schedule, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S10 series, as well as some mid-range phones.

These phones were scheduled to receive the update in October, but the party began a little earlier. Since the update rolls out in phases, some regions may get it at a later stage. October has seen an even more aggressive rollout of One UI 8. The update expanded to multiple new devices almost every day. Many budget phones, in fact, received the major update well ahead of premium phones like the Galaxy Tab S10 series and Galaxy XCover 7 Pro.

We’re only halfway through October, and the One UI 8 update has already reached nearly all premium and mid-range phones and tablets. Several budget phones from the Galaxy M-series and F-series have also joined the party.

One UI 8 is already rolling out to a big portion of Galaxy devices that were scheduled to receive the update in October. Surprisingly, it has already reached some devices that were scheduled for November, including the Galaxy Tab S10+, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy M53. So, with only a few devices left to receive the update while half of October is still to go, we won’t be surprised if Samsung wraps up the One UI 8 rollout before November.

Vivo X300 Pro vs Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: Camera, Battery, Display & Price Compared

The clash between Vivo X300 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is more than just another flagship face-off; it highlights two distinct approaches to premium smartphone design and innovation. While Vivo focuses on sleek performance and value, Xiaomi pushes the envelope with bold features and power. This comparison matters because both devices redefine what users can expect from top-tier phones, making the choice between them less about specs and more about personal priorities.

1. Design and Display

Build and Feel:

Both smartphones bring premium craftsmanship to the table, but they reflect different philosophies. The Vivo X300 Pro uses an aluminum alloy frame and a dual-glass design, offering a solid and elegant hand feel with a slightly more compact build. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max leans on its larger form factor with a sturdy aluminum frame and its signature Dragon Crystal Glass, enhancing durability and grip. Vivo focuses more on sleekness, while Xiaomi emphasizes a bold, flagship presence. For those who prefer a balanced and lightweight premium device, Vivo stands out, whereas Xiaomi appeals to users who value rugged strength and a big-screen experience.

Display Quality:

Vivo offers a stunning LTPO AMOLED panel with ultra-high peak brightness and Dolby Vision support, ensuring vibrant visuals and smooth scrolling at 120Hz. Xiaomi counters with a slightly larger AMOLED display and a unique secondary rear display, an innovative touch that adds functional versatility. While both deliver flagship-level viewing quality, Xiaomi’s dual-display design gives it a creative edge for notifications, selfies, and content previews. Vivo’s higher peak brightness benefits outdoor visibility, whereas Xiaomi delivers a more immersive experience through its sheer size and smart implementation.

Verdict:

Both excel in build and display, but Xiaomi edges ahead with its secondary screen and bold design. Vivo appeals to minimalists, while Xiaomi caters to those who love innovation and larger displays.

2. Specifications

Performance:

Vivo is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9500, a powerhouse that offers excellent thermal efficiency and stable peak performance. Xiaomi packs the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which pushes raw performance to another level, especially in gaming, AI tasks, and multitasking. Both phones offer UFS 4.1 storage and similar RAM options, ensuring blazing-fast app launches and smooth user experiences. The Snapdragon chip, however, delivers better sustained performance and enhanced GPU output, making Xiaomi slightly more capable for demanding users. Vivo still provides a refined, efficient flagship experience but plays it safer on performance innovation.

Battery and Charging:

Battery capacity is another area where Xiaomi shines. It features a larger 7500 mAh cell with faster 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, ensuring longer use between charges. Vivo’s 6510 mAh battery with 90W wired and 40W wireless support is strong but slightly behind in capacity and speed. Both phones include reverse charging, but Xiaomi’s higher power output makes it more practical for charging accessories. For heavy users, Xiaomi offers more endurance, while Vivo maintains a good balance of size and efficiency.

Verdict:

Xiaomi takes the lead in raw power and endurance, making it a better choice for gamers and power users. Vivo still holds its ground for those who prefer stability and slightly more compact ergonomics.

3. Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses:

Both phones bring serious camera hardware to the table. Vivo impresses with a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens paired with ZEISS optics, delivering excellent zoom detail, color accuracy, and a cinematic tone. Xiaomi responds with its Leica-tuned triple setup, including a 5x periscope zoom lens and outstanding 8K video recording with Dolby Vision HDR. Vivo’s camera is tuned for clarity and high-resolution stills, while Xiaomi leans into versatility and color science for creative shooters. In real-world use, Xiaomi may appeal more to content creators due to its Leica tuning and professional video capabilities, while Vivo will satisfy users who prioritize zoom sharpness and vibrant shots.

Selfie Camera:

Vivo uses a 50 MP sensor with autofocus and excellent HDR, offering clear, detailed selfies in various lighting conditions. Xiaomi’s 50 MP selfie lens comes with HDR10+ support and advanced stabilization, making it ideal for vloggers and those who shoot front-facing videos. While both are excellent, Xiaomi’s added video enhancements make it a more flexible tool for creators.

Verdict:

Vivo delivers exceptional telephoto capabilities, while Xiaomi balances strong zoom, color tuning, and pro-level video recording. Xiaomi edges ahead in overall versatility, though Vivo remains a strong contender for zoom enthusiasts and portrait lovers.

4. Pricing

The Vivo X300 Pro is priced around $800, making it a slightly more affordable flagship, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max comes in at about $950. For the additional price, Xiaomi offers a larger battery, a more powerful processor, Leica camera tuning, and a secondary display, features that justify the premium for users seeking extra capabilities.

Vivo, on the other hand, delivers flagship performance and photography at a lower cost, making it a great value pick for those who don’t need the extras. Budget-conscious users will find Vivo appealing, whereas Xiaomi positions itself as a no-compromise flagship.

Disclaimer:
Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, and applicable taxes.

5. Conclusion

Both devices stand tall in the flagship category but cater to slightly different audiences. Vivo’s strengths lie in its ZEISS optics, ultra-bright display, efficient performance, and slightly lower pricing, ideal for users who want premium quality without overspending. Xiaomi, however, takes innovation further with its dual-display design, ultra-large battery, Leica partnership, UWB support, and unmatched performance, making it more future-ready.

In short, Vivo X300 Pro wins on value and practicality, while Xiaomi 17 Pro Max delivers the ultimate flagship experience for power users and content creators. The choice ultimately depends on whether innovation or price-to-performance balance matters more.

iQOO has officially confirmed that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the iQOO 15, will feature a 7000mAh Blue Ocean battery. The company revealed the details ahead of the launch, which is scheduled for October 20 at 7:00 PM in China.

The new Blue Ocean battery uses a single-cell structure instead of the more common dual-cell design. According to iQOO, this layout improves both durability and energy density. The phone supports 100W wired fast charging and 40W wireless charging. It also offers compatibility with PPS and PD charging protocols at up to 55W.

iQOO 15 will debut with a new Global Direct Power Supply 2.0 system that allows the phone to stay cool while charging and gaming simultaneously. This system aims to reduce thermal buildup, especially during extended gaming sessions.

The company also shared performance benchmarks. In a 30-minute high-load map test in an open-world mobile game running at 60 fps and ultra-high graphics settings, the phone maintained a 1% low frame rate of 57.8 fps. iQOO attributes this to the Monster Supercore Engine, which maximizes the output of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The chipset works alongside iQOO’s in-house Q3 e-sports chip and supports full-scenario ray tracing.

iQOO 15 gaming specs

Talking about other specs, iQOO 15 features a 6.8-inch flat 2K Samsung Everest OLED display. It includes M14 light-emitting material, supports a 144Hz refresh rate, 6000 nits peak brightness, and offers 3200Hz touch sampling.

Vivo X300 Pro Flexes Its Muscles with Dimensity 9500

Known tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore just shared a screenshot of AnTuTu benchmark results for both the Vivo X300 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Looking at the test results, the Vivo X300 Pro, powered by MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9500, managed to achieve an impressive score of 3,956,885 points. Is Pixel 10 Pro Fold the Weakest Foldable Yet? “Explodes” in JerryRig Durability Test

In a recent durability test, Google‘s latest flagship foldable failed dramatically. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold quite literally cracked under pressure and even partially “exploded” when it was pushed to its limits. So here’s everything you need to know before considering buying this premium foldable.

Google’s Foldable Fails Big Once Again: Almost Catches Fire This Time

Known YouTuber JerryRigEverything recently shared a new video where they put the Pixel 10 Pro Fold through his extreme durability test. He claimed that Google’s most expensive smartphone might be the weakest foldable phone he has ever tested. Starting with the IP68 rating, Google impressed with the first ever smartphone with a dustproof design. But in the video, Zack noted that the display is dustproof; however, the hinge is “definitely” not, as you can hear a nasty crunch, which likely caused finer particles to make their way inside the folding mechanism.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Explodes
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Goes up in Smoke During JerryRigEverything’s Durability test

Things also get worse when we get to the bend test. Despite the structural weakness caused by the antenna lines near the hinge on its predecessors, Google decided to change nothing with its latest Pixel 10 Pro Fold. So unsurprisingly, the device snapped on this antenna line when pushed to its limit. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 received plenty of praise during this test, with an impressively tough design.

All of this leads to the worst part of this video, where the $1,799 Pixel foldable starts smoking after the battery integrity gets breached during the bend test. JRE states that he subjects all of the smartphone to the same level lof torture, but this is the first time in his decade long stress testing career that a smartphone from a major brand has actually blown up.

Inside TECNO’s Worldwide Shot on CAMON Photography Contest, with a $10,000 Grand Prize

Shot on CAMON, a global photography contest is shining a spotlight on real and ordinary life. The Shot on CAMON contest, organized by TECNO in partnership with Amateur Photographer, invited people around the world to capture everyday moments using the TECNO CAMON 40 Series.

A Global Contest with Real Moments

The contest received thousands of entries from different countries. It focuses on real life, not staged scenes. The goal is to preserve moments that are often missed. People were asked to capture the rhythm of daily life, human connection, and movement in their surroundings.

Theme 1: Snap Every Pulse

The first theme is about finding the rhythm of life. It encourages observation, not orchestration. Highlighted moments include a boy lifting water toward the setting sun, a street band playing in a neighborhood, and a pirate ship ride holding a breath in mid-air. The message is that pulse is about seeing something clearly, even if only once.

Theme 2: Snap All Fleeting Bonds

The second theme is about connection. It shows how powerful small, intimate moments can be. Examples include a hand held in another, a parent and child on a swing ride, and a girl looking at her cat. It highlights how intimacy is about recognition, not just physical closeness.

Theme 3: Snap Any Motion

The third theme focuses on movement. It captures energy through still images. Submissions include a cyclist in evening light, reflections shaping a scene, and a leap frozen mid-air. The theme shows how motion can stay alive even in a single frame.

Big Rewards for Winners

The contest ended on September 30, 2025. The total prize pool is $37,000, with a $10,000 grand prize. Selected winners will join a special photo tour in London. Their work will also be shown in global exhibitions, featured in TECNO’s annual photo book, and displayed on TECNO’s official platforms.

Global Creative Stage

“Everyone has the potential to create, to view the world in new ways, and to share that vision,” said Laury Bai, TECNO CMO. The Shot on CAMON contest seeks to showcase emerging creative voices on a global stage. While the winners are yet to be announced, this first wave of outstanding entries already offers a glimpse of the talent, with the award-winning works set to be revealed soon.
