LG is selling final units of the unreleased Velvet 2 Pro & LG Rollable to its employees

Tech giant LG who recently announced it was exiting the smartphone market, may have decided to sell off the remnants of its unreleased models to the company’s staff. A recent tweet by a Twitter user with the name @FrontTron indicates that the company’s staffers in South Korea have the opportunity to purchase the few remaining models at an extremely cheap price.LG Velvet 2 Pro

The tweet also detailed around 3,000 units of the unreleased models to be available to the Korea-based staff of LG Electronics. The devices on offer are the LG Rainbow/Velvet 2 Pro and the LG Rollable, both of which were never released.

The Velvet 2 Pro is what should have been the successor of the LG Velvet that was released last year but it wasn’t released before the company announced its exit from the smartphone market. The stand-out feature of the Velvet 2 Pro is its pressure-sensitive touch sensor button which controls the volume and serves as the power button.

The Velvet 2 Pro is an all-around improvement from its predecessor, although the Twitter post did not offer much on the specifications of the models that were on sale. We, however, know that it comes with a triple camera setup at the rear and a front camera housed in a waterdrop notch.

The leak mentioned that the auctioned devices would only enjoy six months of technical support and no software updates. It also indicated that the Velvet 2 Pro would be sold to staffers for around $170. The outlook is that there could be a surge of demand in-house. The company is also prohibiting a resale of the models by successful buyers.

The moves by LG in selling off unreleased products is a culmination of its decision to pull out from the smartphone market, which was made public in April 2021. There could still be a few other unreleased LG models that may also be sold off via the in-house template.

Xiaomi patents modular smartphone design with periscope zoom camera

Modular smartphones haven’t taken off as intended and foldable phones have become more popular compared to modular phones even though they were launching a couple of years after the introduction of modular phones.

There are only a couple of companies that launched — Motorola under its Moto Z series and Dutch-based Fairphone are among those. Now, it seems that China-based Xiaomi could be working on a modular smartphone as it has been awarded a patent for the same.

Xiaomi Modular Smartphone Patent

Xiaomi had filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for an ‘electronic device.’ The documents revealed a few weeks ago, describes a smartphone that is made of different modules with differing functions.

A concept render of the smartphone based on the images in the patent application has been created by Concept Creator for LetsGoDigital. There are basically three modules — the first one contains the motherboard and the camera system, the second module is for the battery while the third module is the one that forms the underside of the telephone.

Xiaomi Modular Smartphone Design

Xiaomi Modular Smartphone Design

Two of those three modules feature a screen and when both of them are connected together, it forms a large display panel without a visible seam. The modules can be attached and removed through a rail-like sliding mechanism.

The company has shown and described two different types of camera modules. One of them is a square-shaped camera system with a triple-camera setup and an LED flash, a design we saw on the company’s Redmi 9C smartphone. There’s also a vertical camera configuration with a quad-camera setup. The lens at the bottom has a square-shaped design, indicating a periscope zoom camera.

Xiaomi Modular Smartphone Design

As for the front-facing camera, the documents don’t reveal much. At this time, it’s likely to be a punch-hole notch on the display for housing the front camera but the company could also use the under-display camera technology for this.

Xiaomi co-founder and CEO Lei Jun had shared several photos of the Xiaomi Magic Cube modular phone on Weibo a few years back. Although the phone was not released in the market, it appears that the Chinese company is still playing with the idea and could launch a smartphone with a similar concept in the future.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 confirmed to run on Wear OS with an overlay of One UI

According to sources, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will be a heavily revamped version of previous models and run on a new operating system. There have been suggestions and hints that an overhaul of the Galaxy Watch series will be carried out this year.

Pro-Samsung tech blog Sammobile has now released an “exclusive” report which it claims to confirm that the Korean tech giant would be ditching the Tizen OS in favor of the Android Wear OS for the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 models. Hence, for the 2021 lineup, Samsung’s watches will be running on the Wear OS.

Incorporating the Wear OS and the One UI will produce a mix of the classic look of the Samsung wearable and additional functionalities. Like the new Apple Watches, the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 will have a feature that allows a user to send short audio messages to their contacts, akin to the functionality of a walkie-talkie.

Three new models are reportedly lined up for release this year, and they are codenamed Wise, Fresh, and Lucky. One of the models will have a classic look similar to a conventional watch, while the two other models will highlight Samsung’s innovative and attractive designs with a sporty look.

As for the price range and expected date of unveiling of the three Galaxy Watch 4 models, no specifics have been given yet. Samsung already has a July event slated for the launch of its foldable smartphone, and the Galaxy Watch 4 may also be unveiled during that event.

OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G bags NBTC certification, global launch could be nearing

OPPO is reportedly working on the Reno6 series of smartphones. The Reno6, Reno6 Pro, and Reno6 Pro+ smartphones have already appeared in the database of the TENAA certification site of China. Hence, it is speculated that the Reno6 line may go official before the end of this month in China. It appears that the global launch of the series may not be far away. The reason behind it is that the Reno6 Pro, which was spotted at the Malaysian SIRM certification site, has now bagged approval from the National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The NBTC listing (via) of the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G has no information on its major specs. It confirms that model number CPH2247 belongs to the Pro model. The Chinese variant of the smartphone has a PEPM00 model number.

OPPO Reno6 Pro’s TENAA imagesThe Reno6 Pro is expected to house a 6.55-inch AMOLED curved edge display that offers an FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The Dimensity 1200 chipset may fuel the phone with up to 12 GB of RAM. It may offer native storage of up to 256 GB.

The Reno6 Pro may feature a 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging. It could be coming with a front camera of 32-megapixel and its rear camera setup has a Sony IMX766 50-megapixel primary camera, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 13-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 2-megapixel camera for depth effects.

OPPO is yet to tease the arrival of the Reno6 series of smartphones. While the company is speculated to launch the Reno6 line in China later this year, its global launch may take place in June.

Realme to launch the Watch 2 Pro, Buds 2, Bluetooth speaker and more on May 20

Last month, Realme held an event tagged AIoT Grand Launch Season 3 where the Watch 2,  Buds Q2, Watch S Masters edition, and several other smart products were launched. The Chinese company has now released yet another poster which points to a similar event dubbed AIoT Sports Launch and scheduled to hold virtually on May 20. realme

Just as the name implies, the event will see the Chinese tech giant launch four different sports-centric products. The products expected to be unveiled include the Realme Watch 2 Pro which is likely a higher model to the Watch 2 that was launched in Malaysia last month. The Watch 2 Pro was spotted alongside the Watch 2 in the source code of the realme Link app back in January. The Pro model was equally certified by the FCC in February. Perhaps, Realme is saving the best for the last by not launching the watch last month alongside the Watch 2.

Furthermore, Realme will also launch the Buds Wireless 2, Buds Wireless 2 Neo and finally, the realme Pocket Bluetooth Speaker. While the watch will keep track of your work out session and monitor the user’s fitness level and progress, the wireless earbuds and Bluetooth Speaker are being projected to keep the user entertained while working out. The earbuds will comes with some level of waterproof rating that’ll make them suitable for use during work out session without fear of getting damaged by sweat.

The earlier FCC listing for the Realme Watch 2 Pro shows that it will packs a bumped up 390mAH battery as against a 315mAh cell on the vanilla Buds 2.

Amazon miniTV is a free video streaming service for the Indian market

Amazon has announced a new miniTV free video streaming service for its growing clientele in India. The miniTV video streaming service will be available to users of the Amazon shopping app. The new service will allow users to access free video content via the app directly at zero subscription cost.Amazon miniTV streaming service

The Amazon miniTV is a free video streaming service that has ad support. The free service does not need installing a separate app for the service, but rather users of the Amazon app in India can now watch videos directly through the shopping app.

Amazon has thus joined the long list of video streaming platforms and would have a comprehensive list of video content from several genres. The service will include high-quality content, including web series, comedy, tech news, food, and several other aspects of interest. Several leading production studios will supply the video content within and outside India. These include TVF, Pocket Aces, and a raft of leading Indian comedy acts, tech, fashion, and beauty experts.

Amazon also said that it would continue to expand the frontiers of the miniTV service to include additional content that would appeal to the Indian audience. The additions, according to Amazon, will be new and exclusive video content, and the rollout could begin almost immediately.

The Amazon miniTV service is accessible from the Amazon shopping app for Android. Presently, support for iOS devices is lacking, but this will be remedied shortly. Amazon says the extension of the service to iOS users will be achieved within the next few months.

Amazon hopes to attract more customers into its platform either for entertainment or shopping with the incorporation of the miniTV free video streaming feature inside its shopping app.

Android 12 screenshots leak ahead of Google I/O 2021, shows off new design changes

The buzz surrounding the 2021 Google I/O event has reached the crescendo on the eve of the event slated to run from May 18 to 20 this year. The virtual event is bound to throw in some surprise announcements and releases. The Google I/O is even touted to be the event that would herald the release of the latest Android version – the Android 12 operating system.Android 12

The suspense has further been heightened with a teaser by tipster Jon Prosser, posted on Front Page Tech. The seemingly last-minute leak revealed some new widgets, buttons, and animations that could highlight the shape of things to come with the release of Android 12.

In recent days, Prosser had shared images and information concerning a couple of Google’s upcoming products and is believed to be an inside authority in such matters. Several developer previews have highlighted the changes that will come with Android 12 and how it will work with devices. There had been a gradual progression in the setup and functionality of the OS when a new version is released, and this is still reflected on Android 12 billed for unveiling during the 2021 Google I/O.

All the little changes, as usual, combine to create an impressive Android UI, with lots of redesigned notification bars, widgets, and elements. Prosser indicates in his video leak that the focus of the latest Android version is the user interface which has been redesigned from its predecessor. There is an almost perfect synergy of the keyboard, app icons, and other elements in the UI. It is also possible that the user interface could be more friendly for one-handed use.

New Music Widget

However, there is still much we don’t know about Android 12. Hopefully, the Google I/O event will illuminate the situation better.

ASUS Zenfone 8 likely to launch in India as ASUS 8Z

Taiwanese tech giant ASUS last week launched the Zenfone 8 series for the global market. The India launch was postponed by the company due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic in the Asian country. The Zenfone 8 has now been spotted on Google’s website, listed under the Google Play supported devices.

What makes the listing spectacular is that the phone bears the moniker ASUS 8Z. The model also comes with the model numbers ASUS_I006D and ZS590KS. The ASUS _I006D model number aligns with the number with which the device appeared on India’s BIS certification website. There was no mention of an alternate name for the higher-end Zenfone 8 Flip which is an indication that the Flip model may not launch in India.

There is precedence to this pattern of naming the Zenfone series models differently in China. The Zenfone 6 released in 2019 was launched in India as ASUS 6Z. This is due to a court order issued over a trademark issue about the use of the ‘Zen’ or ‘ZenFone’ moniker.

Thus, expect the Zenfone 8 as ASUS 8Z in India soon. The device will likely retain the same specs as the Zenfone 8. To refresh our memories, the smartphone is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 888 processor paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5 storage. The device sports a 5.9-inch E4 AMOLED screen with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is covered by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

The phone runs on the custom Zen UI based on Android 11. As for the camera, the phone packs a dual-camera set up made up of a 64MP main sensor assisted by a 12MP ultra-wide camera. At the front, there is a 12MP front camera. There is also a generous 4000mAh battery under the hood with 30W Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support.

The Galaxy F52 5G is the first F-series phone to be sold outside India

Samsung’s Galaxy F-series line of affordable phones has been exclusive to India since it launched last year but that will no longer be the case. Now, the series is heading to other markets starting with China and the first device is the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy F52 5G.

An official poster for the Galaxy F52 5G was shared on Weibo a few days ago by a user that goes by Instant Digital. The image shows the phone in two color variants – Black and White. It also reveals that it will be available for pre-order starting on Thursday, May 20.

Galaxy F52 5G

According to the Weibo user who shared the poster online, he was already aware the Galaxy F52 5G would be released in China as far back as December 2020 judging from a screenshot of an earlier Weibo post.

It has been reported that the Galaxy F52 5G will have a 6.57-inch FHD+ LCD display with a hole punch at the top right corner of the screen. It will have a Snapdragon 750G processor powering it, 64MP quad rear cameras, a 16MP selfie camera, and a 4350mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. It will also have an audio jack at the bottom as shown in the poster above.

The device is said to have a price tag of ¥1999 (~$310). It will go on sale on June 1 and Samsung will ship the phone with a free bathroom scale for early buyers.

OnePlus TVs are finally coming to Europe, no plans for a foldable phone yet

In 2019, OnePlus made its entry into the smart TV market with the OnePlus TV Q1 and the OnePlus TV Q1 Pro. It has gone on to announce more models that are more affordable than the premium Q1 and Q1 Pro. The thing is that none of these TVs are officially sold outside India, but that may change soon.

OnePlus’ CEO, Pete Lau, is reported to have disclosed to the press that it plans to bring its TVs to Europe in the future. This will pit it against Xiaomi, another Chinese phone manufacturer that has been selling its TVs in Europe for years. Unfortunately, there is no info on when the TVs will be launched in Europe.

OnePlus TV U1 Netflix Featured
OnePlus TV U1

When OnePlus eventually launches its TVs in Europe, they will most likely be imported which will raise their price tags compared to India where the TVs are manufactured.

In related news, Pete Lau also revealed that the company has no plans for a foldable device yet. The top executive believes there is still significant development that has to be made most especially with respect to the software. This should not come as a surprise as OnePlus is known to not be an early adopter when it comes to trends in the industry. The manufacturer didn’t launch a phone with support for wireless charging until last year, so something as monumental as a foldable device will take some time.

OnePlus 9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra: Specs Comparison

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 11 Ultra: the most powerful and advanced flagship it ever brought to the market, as well as one of the most expensive. It powerful and innovative features, but is it worth spending all that money on a smartphone in 2021? For less, you can get several other top-tier flagships, such as the OnePlus 9 Pro. This is a comparison between the specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and the OnePlus 9 Pro which will help you understand the main differences between these handsets.

Design

Due to the huge camera module on the rear side, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is not my favorite phone. But it is actually made with more premium materials, including a ceramic back, an aluminum frame, and the Gorilla Glass Victus protection by Corning for the front glass. However, I prefer the OnePlus 9 Pro because it has a more minimal look, it is a more compact phone and it is also lighter than Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. Both the phones offer protection against dust and water with the IP68 certification: they are waterproof.

Display

OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra are equipped with outstanding displays among the best panels in the whole market. They both come with one billion colors AMOLED panels including the HDR10+ certification and a high 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as a very high brightness. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a wider 6.81-inch diagonal, while the OnePlus 9 Pro is more compact; both have curved panels at the edges and both come with a Quad HD+ resolution. The differences between these displays are very marginal, so we will consider it as a draw.

Specs & Software

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and OnePlus 9 Pro are close not only when it comes to the display, but also when it comes to the hardware. They are both fueled by a Snapdragon 888 mobile platform paired with up to 12 GB of RAM. The only important difference between their hardware departments is the internal storage if we consider the higher-end configurations. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra offers up to 512 GB of storage, while the OnePlus 9 Pro stops at 256 GB.

Camera

Despite the OnePlus 9 Pro comes with cameras co-engineered with Hasselblad, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is the camera king here. It has a 50 MP main sensor with laser autofocus and OIS, a 48 MP periscope sensor with OIS and 5x optical zoom, and a 48 MP ultrawide camera. It is able to record 8K videos with HDR10+ and it also comes with a secondary rear display which allows shooting selfies with the rear cameras.

Battery

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a bigger 5000 mAh battery, so it is able to provide a longer battery life on a single charge. The components of the phones have a similar energy consumption, that is why the battery capacity makes the difference. Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra features faster charging technologies (67W wired charging and 67W fast wireless charging against 65W fast charging and 50W fast wireless charging), but given that the OnePlus 9 Pro has a smaller battery, it is actually quicker to reach 100 percent.

Price

The OnePlus 9 Pro has a starting price of €900/$1100 in the global market, while the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra starts from €1200/$1450. As you probably understood from the prices, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is a superior phone. It has more advanced cameras, a bigger battery, and a secondary display. Further, you get a ceramic design and a wider panel. But do you really need these features? With the OnePlus 9 Pro, you still get amazing cameras and good battery life while saving a lot of money. Which one would you pick after considering their prices?

Ulefone Power series smartphone coming soon with a monstrous 13200mAh battery

Most of us would agree that it’s high time for smartphone manufacturers to shift their focus from slamming humongous cameras to some other vital components. Seems Ulefone has realized the need of the hour, that is a phone promising the best battery life. Addressing the concern of many, Ulefone is all set to release a new Ulefone Power Series phone with a monstrous 13200mAh battery.

Must See: Deal: Get Ulefone Armor 9 for $419.99 (Original Price $550)

The Ulefone “Power Series” as the name suggests is a series of devices promising full of power thanks to the high capacity battery they board. Ulefone has so far released multiple iterations of Power Series – Power, Power 2Power 3, and the last model was Power 5S which was launched a couple of years ago in the market. As a sequel in 2021, the company is gearing up for the launch of a new Power Series boasting a 13200 mAh battery.

To be honest, a smartphone with excellent battery backup can be a boon for frequent travelers, business persons, and so on. With the 13200 mAh in the pocket, it’s an assurance that the phone will last with you for a long period of time without the support of a charger.

While other factors also affect the battery endurance, we expect the 13200 mAh on the upcoming Ulefone can last at least 3 days easily on a single charge with normal day-to-day use. We don’t have the exact date by which Ulefone will release the new Power Series neither its proposed official model name. Nonetheless, it’s expected to be Power 6 or similar going by the pattern followed by Ulefone.

That being said, do hit the comment section and let us know your views on the upcoming Ulefone product.

Snapdragon 870-powered iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition gets a May 24 launch date

Vivo-owned iQOO has a new smartphone launching next week. The phone which will be sold as the iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition is a budget flagship phone that is powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset.

The iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition will be announced on Monday, May 24, in China. The phone is a toned-down version of the iQOO Neo5 that was launched in March. This means it will sell for a more affordable price but you will get a similar performance since they are powered by the same chipset.

iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition launch date

Some of the tradeoffs include swapping the AMOLED display for an LCD panel albeit one with a higher 144Hz refresh rate. The screen on the iQOO Neo5 Vitality Edition also has its punch hole at the top right corner of the screen, unlike the standard version which has a centered punch hole. It has also been reported that the phone will support 44W fast charging which is a slower charging speed than the 66W that the iQOO Neo5 supports.

A couple of days from now, ZTE-backed Nubia will be launching its flagship smartphone in its home market in China, dubbed as Nubia Z30 Pro. The phone will be coming with an updated version of the under-display camera technology.

Ahead of the official launch on Thursday, Ni Fei, CEO of Nubia and President of ZTE Mobile Devices, has shared the camera samples of the upcoming smartphone. This gives us a look at the phone’s camera capabilities, including Super Night Mode and 50X Zoom Mode.

A Weibo account which goes by the name “WHYLAB” has also shared some more camera samples of the upcoming Nubia Z30 Pro smartphone. However, unlike the official samples, these images showcase the indoor lighting conditions.

The phone is expected to have three 64-megapixel camera sensors along with a periscope lens on the back. This is the same camera configuration as the Axon 30 Ultra. The front-facing camera setup is not yet known but it has been revealed that the phone has a center punch-hole cutout on the display to house the front camera.

As per the reports, the smartphone will come with an OLED display panel and offer an ultra-high refresh rate. We expect it to be a 144Hz refresh rate, similar to the one found in the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra.

It’s pretty clear that the smartphone offers top-of-the-line specifications for a premium experience.
