iQOO is rumored to launch two or more Smartphones in India starting next month i.e., March. Accordingly, the company’s supposed Indian variants are doing the rounds on Geekbench. Today, yet another device has been spotted and it could be the iQOO 7 from China.

An iQOO device with model number I2009 appears on the Geekbench 5 listing(courtesy of Abhishek Yadav) with 1,130 single and 3,690 multi-core scores respectively. If you recall, the iQOO 7 for China(V2049A) was also spotted on Geekbench before its launch with similar results.

And in case you don’t know, the model numbers of iQOO are different for regions like India. For instance, the iQOO 3 that’s selling in India has a model number I1928 however its Chinese model number is V1955A. LG halts development for three smartphones, including the LG Rollable: Report

LG Electronics has been teasing its futuristic rollable smartphone since last year. But now, it seems that the company is halting development for this device along with two other innovative handsets as well.

LG rollable Smartphone

According to a BizChosun report, the South Korean tech giant has stopped the developed of three OLED display projects. These displays were supposed to be housed on upcoming innovative smartphones, including the LG rollable, and other foldable devices as well. Furthermore, the projects were also being co developed by known display maker BOE. Reportedly, BOE is now reviewing a claim regarding development costs to LG.

The primary reason for the company halting development on its smartphone project is likely its lagging mobile division. For those unaware, the brand has been seeing lackluster sales in the last couple of years. To combat this, the company had aimed to launch innovative devices in the future, but weak sales for handsets like the LG Wing might have affected the company’s decision. During CES 2021, LG had teased its first rollable smartphone, which could have its display size expand or retract.

At the moment, it is unknown what amount BOE is looking to charge LG with regarding the matter. Additionally, an industry insider stated that “Because the development cost per smartphone model is about 10 million dollars based on Korean panel makers, we are looking for a smaller amount from the BOE. The source further added that “we set the mass production target as low as 100,000 units, we will not or have accumulated a lot of supplies.”

Alleged iQOO Neo5 India variant with Snapdragon 870 spotted at Geekbench

A new iQOO labeled as “iQOO I2012” has appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. The identity of this phone is not known yet. The presence of the letter “I” in its label suggests that it could be an Indian variant of the mysterious iQOO phone. Since it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform, it seems that it could be the upcoming iQOO Neo5 smartphone.

The iQOO 3 smartphone which debuted in February last year is the only iQOO that has ever launched in India. The model number of the device is I1928. This suggests that the newly spotted iQOO I2012 could be an Indian variant of a new iQOO phone.

The iQOO I2012 smartphone has appeared multiple times on the Geekbench 5 benchmarking platform. One of the listings shows that it has scored 951 in the single-core and 3339 in the multi-core test. All the listing shows that the phone is powered by a Qualcomm chip that is mentioned as ‘kona.’ The source code mentions that the chip clocks at 3.19GHz, which is a clear hint that it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform.

All the listings show that the device has 8 GB of RAM and it runs on Android 11 OS. This device could be the Snapdragon 870 SoC-powered iQOO Neo5 that is expected to launch in China in March.

Recent reports have revealed that iQOO is gearing to launch around two or three phones in India. It is speculated that one of them is a Snapdragon 888 SoC-powered iQOO 7 flagship. Now that the alleged Indian variant of the iQOO Neo5 has been spotted at Geekbench, it may go official soon in the country. So far, reports have revealed that Neo5 will be arriving in China with specs like a 120Hz AMOLED display with punch-hole design, SD870 chip,  8 GB of RAM, 128 GB storage, a 4,400mAh battery with 66W fast charging support, a triple camera system featuring a Sony IMX598 48-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel superwide lens, and a 2-megapixel lens.

Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds’ design has just been leaked

A new image has just surfaced of a Sony truly wireless earbuds, which might be the WF-1000XM4 earphones. The photo was posted on Reddit, with the earbuds design being revealed through its packaging box.

Sony

According to a TheWalkManBlog, Reddit User Key_Attention4766 shared the image, which was also posted on Imgur. The picture is described as the “packaging box sleeve of the WF-1000XM4.” In other words, this might be the first look of the upcoming earbuds, with its design being in full view. Looking at the image, it can be observed that the earbuds feature a bean like design with top having, what appears to be, a microphone.

Furthermore, the Sony logo can be seen in gold, which is similar to the ones seen on the WH-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM3. Although, a notable difference is that the branding is on the side rather than the top, being in full view at the exterior region. One can also observe a fold accented piece on the side, which looks like an external noise cancellation microphone. This design change arrives as a welcomed touch as it offers a premium aesthetic as well.

Sony

Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report, so take this image with a pinch of salt. The design in the Sony WF-1000XM4 go against previous forms that might be indicative of a fake image. The “WF-1000XM4” branding’s font on the box is also thinner than the ones seen in the previously launched variants. In other words, there are a few inconsistencies that might be intentional from the company. But, we will have to wait for an official company announcement to know for sure.

Qualcomm could play a key role for upcoming Jio-Google budget smartphones

Last year, Reliance Jio had announced Google’s investment of Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.7 percent stake in the company. Along with that, it was also revealed that both the companies will be collaborating for making a low-cost Android smartphone.

Now, it is being reported that Qualcomm will also be playing a key role for this upcoming entry-level smartphone. With budget smartphones, Jio is trying to convert feature phone users, especially its JioPhone users, into first-time smartphone users.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4-series 5G chipset

Rajen Vagadia, President of Qualcomm India, told ET that the company will continue the legacy of collaborating and supporting Jio in bringing new devices and offerings, across price tiers in the market.

Qualcomm’s 400-series chipsets are likely to be used for the budget smartphones — both for 4G as well as 5G. However, the company hasn’t confirmed reaching a deal for the same, saying that such deals would be confidential.

As per the previous reports, Reliance Jio had planned to launch the budget smartphone made in collaboration with Google, by December 2020. However, the release of the device has been postponed and is now expected to get launched in the first quarter of this year.

The upcoming budget smartphone is expected to be priced around Rs 4,000 (approximately $55) to attract the masses in the Indian market. Another report claims that the Jio is expected to roll out around 200 million units within two years in hopes to rope in new users to maintain its lead in the market.

It will be interesting to how the upcoming Jio-Google budget smartphone performs in the market. Google has been trying to focus on the budget offerings with services like Android Go and Android One, but so far hasn’t been able to provide support after initial few months. Indian smartphone market is already highly competitive and it remains to been seen if Jio’s smartphones can be a threat to the likes of Xiaomi and Realme.
