WhatsApp adds a shopping button to chats to make it easier to access catalogs

If you own a business you can create a WhatsApp business account that has additional features that a standard account doesn’t have. One of the features you get is the ability to create a catalog of the items you have for sale. A new addition now makes it easier for customers to quickly view your catalog.

Previously, users had to tap on the contacts name at the top of the chat or the overflow button to “View Contact” before accessing the catalog. Now, the developers have added a shopping button next to the call button that takes you straight to the list of items for sale. This addition reduces the number of taps users make before accessing the catalog.

The feature is already rolling out widely and if you don’t see it on your phone when interacting with a business account that has a catalog, you should go to your app store and update your app.

WhatsApp has added a number of new features for both regular and business owners in the past few months. Some of them include QR codes which make it easier to add a new contact or start a chat with a business; catalog sharing; animated stickers; the ability to expand a video during group video calls; a more advanced search that allows you to filter search results; and a new storage management tool.

Xiaomi Mi 10T vs OnePlus 8T vs Google Pixel 5: Specs Comparison

Design

Google Pixel 5 is one of the most unique phones out there. Unlike all the other last-generation devices, this handset is entirely made of recycled aluminum with the exception of the front panel. Further, it is the only waterproof phone with the IP68 certification making it waterproof up to 1.5 meters deep for a max of 30 minutes. Last but not least, it is the most compact phone and the thinnest one thanks to its smaller display and battery. But you should not underestimate the sleek OnePlus 8T coming with a glass back and an aluminum frame. The same materials used for the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G, but the Mi 10T is thicker and heavier.

Display

The greatest display belongs to the OnePlus 8T. It has an AMOLED panel with a 6.55-inch size, 120 Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ certification, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Right after, we got the Google Pixel 5 sporting an OLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G loses the comparison with its IPS panel, but it has the highest refresh rate (up to 144 Hz). With the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G, you also get a wider 6.67-inch panel. OnePlus 8T has an in-display fingerprint reader, Google Pixel 5 has a rear-mounted sensor, and Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Hardware/Software

The most advanced hardware department is found on the OnePlus 8T. The flagship killer is powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. Right after, we got the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G which still comes with the Snapdragon 865, but it sports just 8 GB of RAM in the most expensive configuration and just 128 GB of storage. The Google Pixel 5 lags behind with its Snapdragon 765G but it will have longer software support since it is a Google phone. Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G runs Android 10 out of the box, while OnePlus 8T and Google Pixel 5 run Android 11.

Camera

If you want the most interesting camera setup, go for the OnePlus 8T which sports a 48 MP main sensor with OIS, a 16 MP ultrawide sensor, a 5 MP macro camera, and a 2 MP depth sensor. But the Google Pixel 5 is still a great camera phone with its 12.2 MP dual camera including an ultrawide sensor. With the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G, unfortunately, you do not get optical stabilization, but it can record 8K videos.

Battery

With its huge 5000 mAh battery, the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G has a longer battery life in a lot of scenarios. But the OnePlus 8T is still a pretty nice battery phone with its 4500 mAh unit. Google Pixel 5 is inferior but its battery life is still very nice. Further, it is the only to support wireless charging and reverse charging. With the OnePlus 8T, you get the fastest wired charging technology with 65W power.

Price

Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G is priced at €500/$590, OnePlus 8T costs €600/$710, and Google Pixel 5 has a €629 starting price. With the Google Pixel 5, you can get a complete user experience and a waterproof phone with wireless charging, as well as longer software support. But if you are a power user who seeks the best performance, you may prefer the OnePlus 8T due to its great hardware. It does not make a lot of sense to buy Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G with an IPS display and inferior cameras for just €100 less than the OnePlus 8T. But if you find interesting discounts, it might be worth going for it.

MediaTek teases new 6nm premium 5G mobile processor; unveils new Chromebook chips too

At the MediaTek summit today, the manufacturer teased a new premium 5G processor that is expected to launch soon. The yet-to-be-named chipset will go against other flagship chipsets when it launches.

MediaTek also revealed key details about the chipset. For starters, it will be a 6nm processor that will be built by TSMC. It will also feature Arm Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 3.0GHz.

MediaTek 6nm chip

This chipset is most likely one of two reported to be coming soon by the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station. A little more than a week ago, he had revealed that the Taiwan-based company is developing 5nm and 6nm chipsets with cortex-A78 cores.

In a Weibo post today, the leaker also revealed that the 6nm processor has the model number MT689X and features the same CPU frequency and architecture as the Exynos 1080 which is scheduled to be announced at an event in China later this week.

MediaTek will announce the chipset before the end of the year and we may be lucky to see it appear on a phone this year too, most likely one from a Chinese company.

Alongside the Dimensity 700, MediaTek also announced two new processors designed for Chromebooks. There is the MT8192 which is a 7nm processor for mainstream devices and the 6nm MT8195 that is designed for premium models. Below are the specs for the processors:

MT8192

  • 7nm
  • 4x Cortex-A76 + 4x Cortex-A55
  • APU 2.0 with up to 2.4 TOPS performance
  • Mali-G57 five-core GPU
  • LPDDR4X
  • UFS 2.1 storage
  • Support for WQHD displays with 60Hz refresh rates or FHD+ displays with up to 120Hz refresh rates
  • Supports up to two displays simultaneously
  • 4K HDR video decoding
  • Support for PCI-Express Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1

MT8195

  • 6nm TSMC
  • 4x Cortex-A78 + 4x Cortex-A55
  • APU 3.0 with up to 4 TOPs performance
  • Mali-G57 five-core GPU
  • Quad-channel 2133MHz LPDDR4X
  • Supports up to three displays
  • Dolby Vision 7.1 support
  • Dedicated Audio Digital Signal Processor (DSP)
  • AV1 hardware video accelerator
  • 4K HDR video decoding
  • Support for PCI-Express Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1

The MT8192 will appear in Chromebooks in the first quarter of 2021 while the MT9195 which will power premium Chromebooks, smart displays, and tablets will arrive later.

MediaTek anticipates that it will ship 500 million 5G-enabled chipsets in 2021

MediaTek, at the annual summit today(November 10), announced a new 7nm Dimensity 700 5G for affordable Smartphones. The launch also includes a few other processors(MT8192, MT8195) for Chromebooks. Besides, the company says that it expects to take a giant leap in shipment of 5G chipsets next year.

MediaTek

The Taiwanese fabless Semiconductor company predicts(via ET Telecom) that it will ship about 500 million 5G chipsets in 2021. That’s a steep dive into the numbers considering the year hasn’t even begun yet. Anyway, the company’s chief executive Rick Tsai believes that the market for 5G will double next year to aid the process. The company has reportedly shipped 200 million 5G chipsets in 2020 already achieving its early prediction.

Further, Rick says the company’s experience in the early phase of 5G was successful and he is confident about the same in 2021. As of Q2, MediaTek had close to 26% of the market share globally and stood behind Qualcomm. However, its’ dimensity SoCs have gained a lot of momentum going into Q3, and currently Q4.

Amidst a pandemic, mid-range devices have been the top priority when it comes to buying mobile smartphones. Accordingly, MediaTek, which already has it’s Dimensity chipsets from mid-range to flagship segment, is flourishing a lot this year. In fact, it has posted a staggering 61.2% YoY surge in September 2020 revenue.

Apart from 5G smartphones, MediaTek is also exploring other areas like IoT(Internet of Things). The company has already tested the World’s first 5G satellite IoT data collection test. The ongoing work with Inmarsat GEO satellites will reportedly help the company drive 5G innovation across verticals like IoT going forward.

Coming back, David Ku, chief financial officer at MediaTek says the company has tie-ups with major Android Smartphone players. In fact, the company has reportedly set aside $2.5 billion for research and development (R&D) activities in 2020.

It also has active partnerships with major Chinese original equipment makers such as Oppo, Redmi, Vivo, Huawei, and ZTE. Ku adds that MediaTek is already working on 5G data cards, 5G broadband, telematics, and 5G industrial IoT.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G with Snapdragon 750G and Android 11 gets benchmarked on Geekbench

At the beginning of the year, Samsung had trademarked names like Galaxy A12, A22, A32, A42, A52, A62, A72, A82, and A92 for is upcoming A-series smartphones. Among these, the company has already launched the Galaxy A42 5G as its cheapest 5G-enabled smartphone. It appears that the launch date of the Galaxy A52 5G may not be far away as it has appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform.

On Geekbench 5, the Galaxy A52 5G has appeared with its SM-A526B model number. It has revealed that it has scored 298 in the single-core test and 1001 in the multi-core test. The smartphone is seen running on Android 11 OS and it has 6 GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G Geekbench

The name of the processor that fuels the Galaxy A52 5G is not mentioned. Instead, the “lito” codename can be seen. Also, the base frequency of the processor is 1.80GHz. The presence of Adreno 619 graphics reveals that the device is powered by the Snapdragon 750G chipset. The Galaxy A42 5G is also driven by the same SoC.

In September, it was revealed it is equipped with a quad-camera setup that is led by a 64-megapixel primary camera. The camera module also includes an ultrawide sensor, a macro lens, and a depth assist lens, but their configurations are not known yet.

A recent report had claimed the main camera of the Galaxy A52 5G will be supplied by Samsung Electro-Mechanics. The same report had also revealed that the Galaxy A72 5G could be the first Samsung phone with a penta-lens camera setup. It is expected to feature a 64-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel sensor, and a 3x telephoto lens.

New Samsung Galaxy M12 leak shows live shots of a unique rear panel design

Samsung recently announced its budget F41 smartphone which is a first one of a possible F-series of devices. Just more than a month, and we have already been hearing news about more devices like the Galaxy F12/M12. Now, live images of what could be a prototype of Galaxy M12’s rear panel has leaked. This hints that the F12, M12 could be two distinct devices. And it certainly looks different from the design that leaked earlier.

91Mobiles, through their sources, shows us a pair of images that show the rear-panel view of the alleged Galaxy M12. Interestingly, the device has a two-tone finish, unlike the previous leak. The majority of the rear panel looks like a brushed textured finish. And a part of the rear fuselage below has a glossy paint job. Simply put, the two-tone looks something like the first Google Pixel but in reverse.

However, the camera layout is similar to a squircle design with a cut-out for four sensors inside the housing. There is also a small cut-out below probably for the LED flash. Another image, which is basically a flip-over of the rear panel, shows the model number inside. Looking at it closely, we see SM-M127F written on it. All this not only strengthens the existence of the Galaxy M12 but also reveals a unique rear-design compared to its predecessor, Galaxy M11. Anyway, let’s wait for more leaks to ascertain this claim.

Galaxy M12 Specifications(Expected)

Although it’s very early to talk about the specs of Galaxy M12, we might have a few guesses here. According to the early reports, the device might have a 6.7-inch display with a punch-hole for selfies. Additionally, it might feature a whopping 7,000mAh battery which currently exists only on the Galaxy M51 in the M series.

Also, if we look at the live shots of the prototype, there is no fingerprint sensor at the back. Considering its a budget device, we speculate that Samsung might place it at the side onto the power button. That said, Sadly, we might have to wait for a bit to know more about the specifications.

Huawei Mate 40 now supports 40W wireless charging but that was not the case at launch

When the Mate 40 was announced last month by Huawei, I was surprised that the phone didn’t have support for wireless charging seeing as its predecessor, the Mate 30, supports 27W fast wireless charging. The disappointment prompted me to write a special post focused on the missing feature and why Huawei needs to stop distinguishing models of the same series with features such as wireless charging and IP rating.

Huawei Mate 40

Huawei recently reached out to us to tell us that the Mate 40 does support wireless charging, and not just any but 40W fast wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. While not as fast as the 50W fast wireless charging of its siblings, it is a significant upgrade over last year’s own.

Sure, it is good news to know the phone supports wireless charging but that wasn’t the case at launch. Huawei didn’t state that the Mate 40 has support for wireless charging when the phone was announced and we weren’t the only ones that mentioned the feature was missing. Other sites such as The Verge and GSMArena also stated in their launch posts that the phone doesn’t have the feature.

We discovered that Huawei seems to have updated its sites recently to reflect that the Mate 40 supports wireless charging. The internet archive site, The Wayback Machine, shows that as of October, the Mate 40 page on the official Huawei China website doesn’t mention support for wireless charging but when you check the site now, it is stated that it supports “40 W Huawei wireless super-fast charging and reverse wireless charging”.

Weird as it may sound, it seems Huawei just “added” support for wireless charging to the device. That is possible considering the Mate 40 doesn’t go on sale until December 21 which means production might have begun after the announcement, allowing for the feature to be added. That is the only plausible explanation. Nevertheless, we are glad the Mate 40 has wireless charging now and that makes its €899 price tag more acceptable.

Samsung patents an all-display Smartphone with Transparent housing and Sliding cameras

Although Samsung Display is leading the technology when it comes to displays, it never shies to innovate further. However, the latest patent from its sibling Samsung Electronics defies every myth with an all-display and a portless design.

Samsung All-Display Smartphone Patent
Credit: LetsGoDigital/Snoreyn

The new patent, as spotted by LetsGoDigital, is a true 100% display device. The images show multiple displays wrapped around the device. There are no ports, cameras, and physical buttons. Samsung Electronics has filed it at USPTO(US Patent and Trademark Office) back in July 2020. It has been published on October 29,2020, and also visible in the WIPO(World Intellectual Property Office) database.

Display, Transparent Housing designs

Talking about the displays, we see a curved display at the front. However, the rear panel’s display sits flat. And has many semi-rounded displays on the sides. Additionally, the display is covered by transparent housing on the front and back. The report mentions that it is made of a transparent “acrylic material”. Other components inside are hidden under this surrounding display with support columns.

Additionally, the device also has a sliding camera. The device reportedly has two parts with the cameras fixed to the back of the front part. Accordingly, a user needs to slide the rear part down to reveal the cameras. That said, for selfies, he/she can turn to the rear display. And use the same camera for taking selfies.

All this makes the device completely covered by display, and give a true full display smartphone experience. Further, the patent also mentions a secondary camera hidden inside. This is reportedly to find out which display the user is staring at. Other features like in-display fingerprint sensor, speaker, and sensors are under the display.

However, as mentioned earlier, there are no visible buttons, ports in the design. But the patent details say that the device can be turned on/off via screen using a piezoelectric sensor. The patent also talks about the possibility of eSIM and wired/wireless charging albeit having no ports.

Use-case Scenarios of Transparent housing, Sliding Camera

The new housing and all-display inside has several use-case scenarios. These include displaying weather information, health/training info via graphics on the entire screen. The report says the housing also can adapt to the environment by detecting colors, and displaying images accordingly.

For instance, scanning a pebble, it can turn the entire device look like a pebble by displaying it on all the images. Additionally, the device would also use AI to reportedly adapt to situations, read environments, and display data like Weather, traffic information accordingly.

As for the display and hidden camera, they reportedly will work in tandem for various actions. It can track and activate the display accordingly when the device is in hands, table, etc. The other displays, that aren’t in use, can show preset images like thumbnails of recent images.

Users can swipe it from the sides to expand into the screen in use. Other features include turn-over the screen while watching a video to see file info, project contents on all display at the same time, etc. Nevertheless, if the design gains momentum and becomes a final product, it is sure to be attractive than wrap-around Mi Mix Alpha, and portless Meizu Zero.

Garmin introduces a new pregnancy tracking feature for its smartwatches

It is uncommon to find women’s health tracking features on most smartwatches more than period tracking. Renowned watch manufacturer Garmin has introduced a new pregnancy tracking feature which would be on some of its most popular wearables, including the Garmin Venu, Vivoactive, Forerunner, Fenix, and Vivomove series.

There are several pregnancy tracking apps available presently but this is obviously the first that we’re seeing on a smartwatch. The watch feature is designed to track a pregnancy from start to finish, right from your wrist.

The Garmin pregnancy tracking feature comes with several benefits which include the ability to track your baby’s progress on a timeline, track daily symptoms, log your baby’s movements inside your belly, track trimester dates, get hydration and nutrition tips, and more. You can learn more about the feature from the video below.

When the baby is due to arrive, you can even track the duration and frequency of your contractions via the Contraction Timer Connect IQ app on your smartwatch.

The new pregnancy tracking feature can be activated from the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone. The settings can be found within the menstrual cycle tracking feature on the app. You can access it on the Garmin Venu, Vivoactive, Forerunner, Fenix smartwatch by downloading it from the Connect IQ store. However, it can be gotten through the women’s health tracking widget on the Vivomove series.

Redmi Note 8 finally gets MIUI 12 update in India; Android 10 tags along

Xiaomi has been updating its devices to MIUI 12 since April. The company is yet to finish the rollout as the list of eligible devices is long and there are multiple versions of certain devices. The Redmi Note 8 from the second half of 2018 began to get the update only in late September in China, followed by the global rollout in October. Now, the users in India are also being treated with the latest version of MIUI.

Redmi Note 8 All Colors Featured

The Redmi Note 8 has been Xiaomi’s best-seller worldwide multiple times in the past quarters. Despite that, the company did not provide the Android 10 update to this handset, let alone MIUI 12. The device only received MIUI 11 update after its launch.

But now, a year after its release, the firm began to deliver MIUI 12 update along with Android 10 in China. The same update was later extended to other regions and now, it has finally reached India, which is Xiaomi’s largest market outside its home country.

The MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 8 users in India comes with build number V12.0.1.0.QCOINXM. Like all OTA system update, it is currently being pushed in batches. If early adopters don’t face any critical issues, the build will be made available for more users in the coming days.

The Redmi Note 8 is not eligible for Android 11 update and therefore, the currently rolling out Android 10 update is its last Android upgrade. However, it should receive MIUI 13 whenever Xiaomi releases it.

Huawei Mate X2 with 66W fast charger bags 3C certification

Recent reports have revealed that the upcoming Huawei Mate X2 foldable phone is codenamed as “Teton.” In September, its TET-AN00 model number was spotted at the database of China’s TENAA authority. Today, the TET-AN00 model number along with its network variant with model number TET-AN10 received approval from the 3C authority of China. The 3C certification is a good hint that the arrival of the Mate X2 may not be far away.

The 3C certification of the Huawei TET-AN00 / AN10 smartphone reveals that it supports 5G connectivity and it may ship with a 66W charger. It is the same charger that is available with the Mate 40 series of flagship phones. No other information on the specs of the Mate X2 can be found in its 3C listing.

Huawei Mate X2 3C

At the end of September, the Wi-Fi Alliance authority certified one of the global editions of the Mate X2 that has a TET-NX9 model number. The Wi-Fi certification revealed that the device supports Wi-Fi 6 and it is loaded with EMU 11.

Speculations surrounding the Mate X2 have revealed that it will be sporting an inward folding design like the Galaxy Z Fold 2. In other words, it won’t be equipped with an outward folding design like the predecessor Mate X and Mate Xs.

The Mate X2 is expected to feature an 8-inch foldable screen that will offer a resolution of 2248 x 2220 pixels. It is likely to draw power from the Kirin 9000 5G chipset. There is no word on the launch date of the device. Hopefully, the rumor mill will spill some information on the Mate X2 in the coming days.
