AGM announces its first 5G phone – AGM X5, expected to launch soon

The 5G era is fast gaining ground as we have seen not just flagship models but also mid-range and affordable models having a 5G chip onboard. Rugged phone maker AGM is set to launch its first 5G phone. The company has released a few details of the smartphone including live images showing the front and rear aspects.AGM X5

The AGM X5 as it would be called, is expected to sport a 6.5-inch display amidst a rugged build. The phone will be launched exclusively in China this year but AGM has promised to push it to the global market in 2021.

In terms of the design, the device retains the rugged look AGM smartphones are known for. but this looks kind of cool. The phone features a metal frame wrapped with plastic for protection. The back panel is also made from metal manufactured using injection mould process. The phone packs a quad camera setup stacked vertically at the top left corner of the back panel. There is equally a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The display utilises a waterdrop notch which houses the rear camera.

Although the specifications pof the model is yet to be revealed, there are rumours that it could be powered by a Dimensity 1000 or Ivy 510 processors, both of which support SA and NSA networking. There are also speculations of the phone being available in up to 12GB RAM version as well as packing a 100MP sensor.

Leak reveals Galaxy S21 Ultra camera details: New 108MP sensor, ToF sensor removed

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with four rear cameras. The primary sensor is a 108MP camera and among the other three is a Time of Flight (ToF) camera. For the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Samsung will be taking a different direction.

We already know that the flagship phone, which has been reported to launch on January 14, will have four rear cameras, thanks to an early look at its design. The popular leaker, Ice Universe, has revealed that there’s no ToF camera in the setup.

In a tweet posted a few days ago, he disclosed that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will come with an ISOCELL HM3 sensor. The 108MP camera will have a pixel size of 0.8µm and the setup will have a laser focus module. However, there will be no ToF sensor.

The ToF sensor on the Galaxy S20 Ultra is a 0.3MP sensor with an f/1.0 aperture. Its job is to help with depth details when taking portrait photos or recording live focus videos. If Samsung is removing it from the S21 Ultra, it is safe to say that it has another way of capturing the depth of field details.

Nevertheless, the phone still has four rear cameras and we know that asides from the 108MP primary camera, there will also be an ultrawide angle camera and a periscope telephoto camera. Our guess is that the fourth sensor is another telephoto camera.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra launches early next year alongside the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus. It will have a centered punch hole and be powered by the Snapdragon 875 processor or Exynos 2100 processor depending on the market.

OnePlus reported to skip Wear OS for its watch

The OnePlus Watch has been in the news a lot lately. Thanks to leaks, there is a lot we already know about the watch such as its design and the fact that it will have a CyberPunk 2077 Limited Edition.

One question that has been on our minds is the operating system that will power the OnePlus Watch. While that question still remains unanswered, we now know what operating system will not be powering it.

According to Max Jambor, the German blogger and leaker, the OnePlus Watch doesn’t run Google’s Wear OS designed for wearables. Depending on how you feel about Wear OS, this is either good news or bad news.

Nevertheless, we are not too surprised, as a lot of manufacturers, especially those based in China, are launching their smartwatches with proprietary operating systems that they can have better control over. Manufacturers skipping Wear OS is also expected based on how the operating system is being handled by Google.

It is safe to say that OnePlus will also follow a similar path and launch its smartwatch with its own proprietary operating system. However, we won’t bank on it having support for apps to be installed on to the watch.

There is still no info regarding when the OnePlus Watch will launch by Max Jambor does confirm it will be released, he just doesn’t know when it will be. Our guess is that the watch will be announced alongside the OnePlus 9 series which is expected to arrive in just a few months.

OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition Hands-on pictures

OnePlus recently launched a Cyberpunk 2077 Limited edition for the OnePlus 8T. The company has been making limited edition devices for a few years. Some of the notable ones are OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Editon, OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Limited Edition, and Oneplus 6T/7T Pro McLaren Limited Edition. However, the OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition easily stands out as the best custom edition OnePlus has made yet. Here are some hands-on pictures of the sleek device to give us a close look at the design (Images Credit: mydrivers).

Oneplus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 limited edition unboxing:

The OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition has the same specification as the OnePlus 8T. However, the design has an entirely different outlook from the regular version in terms of design and software.

The model adopts a three-stage design. The top of the back panel resembles a window housing the camera array with the texts – ‘NETRUNNER EDITION’, ‘2077’, and ‘NEURAL CONNECTION STATUS: ACTIVE’. There’s also a barcode from the game.

Then, the mid-segment of the back panel is made of AG glass with the OnePlus logo embossed on it. The OPPO Reno4 Pro Artist Limited Edition uses a similar design. Finally, at the bottom, the panel sports a carbon-like design with Cyberpunk 2077 logo in yellow color.

For software, the device ships with Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 operating system but with a special theme, AOD style, and camera filters designed after the game.

The sleek smartphone equally comes in a special box with the game’s map printed inside. There is also a protective case with radium borders, Warp Charge 65 Power Adapter, USB cable, SIM card ejector, some stickers, and a badge.

The OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition is only available in China right now and there is no indication where it would be launched next. However, you can pick up the model from Giztop right away.

Amazfit Bip U Pro receives Bluetooth certification; should launch soon

The Amazfit Bip U launched last month in India, bringing new features to the Bip line while keeping the price tag affordable. We first reported that there will be a Bip U Pro with additional features and now, we have more proof from the Bluetooth SIG website that the watch is on its way.

Amazfit Bip U All Colors
Amazfit Bip U

The Amazfit Bip U Pro was listed on the Bluetooth SIG database on October 30 and the certificate reveals the watch has the model number A2008 while the standard version has the model number A2017.

The description says that the difference between the two models is that the Bip U Pro (A2008) has a different sensor and also has GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) a.k.a. GPS.

Amazfit Bip U Pro Bluetooth SIG

As we discovered in our own findings, the Bip U Pro will also have a geomagnetic sensor which means it will have a compass. The fitness tracker will also have a microphone which hints at it having a smart assistant such as Amazon Alexa. Its other specs such as display, battery life, and health features should be the same as the standard version

Huami is yet to announce a launch date for the watch but we expect it to arrive this month.

Amazon discounts Razr 5G to $999 and Motorola Edge to $399

The Motorola Razr 5G packs some significant upgrades over its predecessor but the foldable phone is still quite expensive when compared to other foldable phones such as the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and even non-foldable phones. However, now may be the best time to pick up the phone as Amazon has slashed the price.

Motorola Razr 5G discount

As seen on the retail giant’s US site, the Motorola Razr 5G (2020) can be purchased for just $999.99. That is $400 off the retail price and a huge discount. The phone is available unlocked, so you can use it with any of the major US carriers. It can be purchased in Blush Gold, Liquid Mercury, and Polished Graphite.

For $999, you get a phone with a 6.2-inch foldable OLED primary display, a 2.7-inch g-OLED Quick View secondary display, a Snapdragon 765G processor with a built-in 5G modem, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a 48MP primary rear camera, a 20MP selfie camera, and a 2800mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging, and Android 10 with Motorola’s My UX on top.

If a foldable doesn’t appeal to you but you still want a 5G Motorola smartphone, the Motorola Edge is also heavily discounted on Amazon and on Motorola’s own official website.

The phone which launched for $699.99 can now be picked up for just $399.99! That is even cheaper than the newly announced Motorola One 5G that is priced at $444.99 and has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Personally, the Edge is a recommended buy over the Razr 5G as it not only has the same processor but packs more cameras and a much bigger battery with faster charging.

Motorola Edge

The Motorola Edge which comes in Solar Black has a 6.7-inch curved OLED display with an FHD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a punch hole at the top left corner of the screen that is home to a 25MP camera.

The Snapdragon 765G processor is paired with 6GB of RAM but you also get 256GB of storage which can be expanded via a MicroSD card slot. There are four cameras on the back which include a 64MP primary camera, a 16MP ultrawide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a Time of Flight sensor.

The Motorola Edge also has stereo speakers, an audio jack, an in-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and a 4500mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. It also runs Android 10 out of the box.

You can grab the Motorola Razr 5G and Motorola Edge on Amazon or pick up the Edge on Motorola’s official website.

DxOMark Speaker: Harman Kardon Citation and Amazon Echo Studio top for advanced and essential categories respectively

A few days ago, DxOMark announced that it has a new benchmark for testing wireless speakers called DxOMark Speaker. The review lab has now released the reviews and rankings for a bunch of speakers, and the results are pretty interesting.

Amazon Echo Studio DxOMark

DxOMark has split the rankings into two price categories for now. There is the Essential Category that has speakers that are priced under €200 and there is the Advanced Category that has speakers priced between €200 and €499. There will also be a third one called Premium Category that will have speakers priced above €499. It is mentioned that the prices are based on the retail price tag at the time of release in Europe. For speakers not launched in the old continent, their prices are converted into Euros.

The overall score is made up of five sub-scores from the following tests:

  • Timbre – how well the speaker reproduces sound
  • Dynamics – how well the speaker reproduces the energy level of a sound
  • Spatial – a speaker’s ability to reproduce stereo sound in all directions
  • Volume – maximum loudness of a speaker and how smoothly volume increases and decreases based on user input
  • Artifacts – how much source audio is distorted when played back

EDITOR’S PICK: The Acer Halo is the coolest Google Assistant smart speaker

Essential Speakers

The Essential Speakers ranking has the Amazon Echo Studio at the top of the list with a score of 124 points and the Xiaomi Mi XiaoAI Speaker HD follows with an overall score of 109. Grabbing the third spot is the newly announced Xiaomi XiaoAI Speaker Battery Edition with a score of 104 points.

DxOMark Speaker Essential

The list also has the 2018 Yandex Station from Russia’s own search giant, Yandex, with an overall score of 98, the Tmall Genie X5 with 92 points, and the Baidu Xiaodu Smart Speaker Ultimate Edition with 48 points.

We are pretty disappointed that Google’s new Nest Audio hasn’t been reviewed. We hope it will be reviewed soon along with Apple’s HomePod Mini.

Advanced Speakers

For the advanced category, the current leader is the Harman Kardon Citation 200 which pulls an overall score of 147 points. Hot on its heels is the Google Home Max with an overall score of 145 points. The Bose Home Speaker 500 is third on the list with 130 points, the Sonos One nearly ties with it at 129 points while the Huawei Sound X is close behind at 126 points. Apple’s HomePod rounds off the list (for now) with a score of 113 points.

DxOMark Speaker Advanced

If you want to read the review for each speaker, you can do so here.

While not everyone agrees with DxOMark reviews, most especially when it comes to its phone reviews, we are pretty sure that Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei and Xiaomi will begin to brag about the scores of their speakers when they launch new models just as they already do with their smartphones.

As reported on the official website(via Android Police), the new feature enables running multiple android apps simultaneously. However, it is currently available only for a few Samsung devices. For PC, the feature is currently available for the Windows Insider community who are in Developer, Beta, or Release Preview channels. The list of Samsung devices with “Link to Windows Integration” that supports the Multiple App streaming features is as follows:

The update also extends to devices running One UI 3.0 beta currently based on Android 11 as follows:

So multiple-app streaming requires Windows May 2020 update or Later. And a minimum of Android 10. Plus, to enable it, make sure you have the following apps updated to the versions as below:

That said, Microsoft says this is an early preview, and hence will gradually roll out to all users. Also, the update has limitations like Sound Sync between PC and Mobile, Mouse Input not recognized by Apps, and more. You can take a look at them below:

What is Microsoft Your Phone?

For the unware, Microsoft’s Your Phone is the company’s solution to connect Smartphones to the Windows platform. Users running Windows 10 can download the Your Phone App from Microsoft Store. And use it to access Media, Messages, Calls, and now multiple Apps as well. Previously, in the early update for support of Apps, Microsoft explained how the feature works.

Xiaomi Mi 11 tipped to feature 48MP ultra-wide camera and better stabilization

Earlier this week, Xiaomi officially discontinued Mi 10 Pro in China. Followed by that, the regular Mi 10 went out of stock across all the online retailers in the country. Then, a mysterious Xiaomi smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 popped up on Geekbench. This device is expected to be one of the Mi 11 series smartphones. Now, certain specs of this phone’s camera have been tipped.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro Colors Featured
Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro

According to popular Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi’s first Snapdragon 875 handset will feature a 48MP ultra-wide camera with a pixel size of 0.8μm. The tipster did not mention the name of this device but we believe it to be Mi 11 Pro and not the regular Mi 11.

Apart from this minute detail, he also hinted that the Mi 11 series will arrive with improvements in stabilization. Again, it is not sure either the standard, higher, or both variants will come with an OIS upgrade. Anyway, we expect to learn more about these phones in the coming days.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro were the first Snapdragon 865-powered Chinese smartphones. In fact, they were only second to the Galaxy S20 series overall. The same is expected to be for next year as the same tipster claims that Xiaomi will be the first Chinese smartphone maker to launch Snapdragon 865 phones – Mi 11 series.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 series is rumored to debut in either late January or in February just like the Galaxy S21 series. Hence, it makes sense for these devices to show up on Geekbench and certification bureaus as they might be in the testing phase at the moment.

It has been reported that Sony has announced a purple variant of the phone which can only be purchased from the Japanese carrier, Docomo. The new color variant will go on sale on November 12 but reservations are already being accepted.

According to Docomo’s website, this purple variant will be limited to online shops only, so you won’t find it if you go to purchase it at a physical store.

The Sony Xperia 5 II also comes in Black, Blue, Gray, and Pink. Unlike other countries where it has 256GB of storage, Sony is selling the phone in its home country with 128GB of storage. However, a MicroSD card slot that also doubles as a second SIM slot will allow users to add more storage.

The rest of the specs of the phone are a 6.1-inch 120Hz OLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and bezels rather than notches or hole punches. There is also a Snapdragon 865 processor inside along with 8GB of RAM. The phone also has triple 12MP rear cameras with OIS on the main and the telephoto cameras and a 124° viewing angle for the ultrawide angle camera. There is also an 8MP selfie camera with 5-axis gyro-EIS.

The Xperia 5 II has stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, and a 4000mAh battery with support for 21W fast charging and Power Delivery 3.0,  though Sony ships it with an 18W charger. It runs Android 10 out of the box but will get three OS upgrades.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics shortlists two bidders for selling its wireless communication business

Samsung‘s Electro-Mechanics arm has reportedly been looking for bidders to buy its Wireless Communication business. According to a report, the company might announce a preferred bidder as early as this month. And the deal surely has more than one benefit.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics

TheElec says that out of nine companies, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has recently narrowed down the bidders to two. It adds that the company will reportedly announce one of the bidders as the “preferred one” by this month whilst starting negotiations of the deal. Although the names of two shortlisted bidders are not known, the report says that they already produce components for Samsung Electronics.

And talking about the deal, as per KB Securities, Samsung is quoting over 100 billion won($89 million).  In return, the bidder will get the company’s wireless business and 100 existing employees. Additionally, the preferred bidder can also enjoy a sweet deal of selling Wi-Fi modules to Samsung Electronics. This is a tempting offer as the company who signs the deal gets a 3x offer for one.

Who is Samsung Electro-Mechanics?

For the unware, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is a subsidiary of Samsung Group. Headquartered in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, the company makes electronic components. Accordingly, the list includes MLCCs(Multi-Layer Ceramic capacitors), RF-PCBs(Printed Circuit Boards). And others like Camera Modules, Network Modules, and semiconductor substrates.

That said, the wireless modules business, which is under its module solutions, reportedly is only 10% out of the company’s entire business. Still, it has been making Wi-Fi, and WiGig modules so far. Here, WiGig refers to a wireless standard that allows Wi-Fi devices to use the 60GHz mmWave for low-latency fast wireless connectivity.

Although we don’t know the real motive of the company for selling this business, we do know that it’s entering the mid-range camera segment after supplying premium smartphones for a while. Accordingly, the company will initially supply camera modules for Galaxy A52/A72, and other budget smartphones going into 2021.

Samsung Galaxy M62 in the works with 256GB internal storage

The Galaxy M series smartphones have been Samsung’s best-sellers in India ever since the company debuted them. Back in September, the South Korean tech giant launched the Galaxy M51 as the most-expensive Galaxy M series phone ever. Now, according to a new report, the company may introduce Galaxy M62 with even beefier specs and a higher price tag.

In 2019, the Galaxy M40 was the costliest Galaxy M series smartphone. Unlike other cheaper handsets in the series, it featured a punch-hole LCD panel and a Qualcomm chipset, Snapdragon 675 to be exact. This very same phone even launched as Galaxy A60 in select markets.

Then, in 2020, the Galaxy M51 has now become the expensive Galaxy M series phone. This handset features a monstrous 7,000mAh battery, the largest in a Samsung smartphone. Also once again, this device is powered by a Qualcomm chip – Snapdragon 730G. However, it comes with an AMOLED display compared to an LCD panel on the Galaxy M40.

Now, according to the sources of SamMobile, Samsung is developing a new handset with model number SM-M625F and 256GB storage. Going by its model number, the publication and its sources suggest this device to launch as Galaxy M62

This means it may take on the mantle of the expensive Galaxy M series smartphone whenever it launches. Also, it will be the first Galaxy M series phone with 256GB internal storage but it may be available in a lower storage option as well.

Having said that the so-called Galaxy M62 will most probably debut next year and share some specs with the upcoming Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72. Perhaps, it may also come with a Qualcomm chipset, AMOLED display, and 7,000mAh battery.
